I loved it and my 6 year old did too, volunteer ran and they do a great job!

It s a very small museum. You can complete the tour and train ride in an hour. They have an cool model train setup in the lobby area. This is the highlight for all the kids. It s worth a one time visit if you re looking for somewhere to take the kids. The train ride has no A/C so you will feel the heat on a hot spring/summer day.
This museum is amazing! Small, yes, but you can ride a trolley! The staff is amazing, knowledgeable, and they know a lot about the history of the trolley. Just be aware, however, if you are are sensitive to screeching metal on metal, wear earplugs while on the trolley ride. Its not too loud, but some people might be more sensitive than others. The trolley ride is about 30 minutes long, I think. Its a lollipop shaped loop. 10/10 I highly recommend going!
Great excursion ride through a wooded area. However, they only show a portion of the collection and only on docent lead tours. There is not as much to see in the main area.
Small place, but very nice. We did the trolley ride 3 times (unlimited rides) and saw deer, turkeys, and a fox. The silent films were funny. Run by friendly volunteers. Great if you have a spare hour.
This place is even better than I remember as a child growing up coming here and an honor to be able to bring my children here nowadays. The staff here are so kind and caring to the children and really took the time to educate my 5 year old son about the history of their trains/trolleys. The train ride tours almost has me forgetting im in Montgomery county Maryland.
Very small Museum but the ride on the street car was worth it.
A great place to visit and enjoy history. An excellent opportunity to share with our kids about the transportation that many of us had when young. Safe and easy to access facility. Professional staff doing their best to contribute to make your visit an enjoyable experience
Very nice little museum. It is limited, especially for very young kids, but I thought still fun. I'm thinking about going when Santa in on the trolleys.
Someone mentioned rude staff... and I almost certainly know who they are talking about! One sour-puss guy does work they. But, something worth sharing is that all the conductors and rail maintenance staff are volunteers. 100% doing this out of the the joy of the job. They even have to buy their own uniform. There's one guy that actually greases the rails manually by walking along the track and using some applicator tool.
For a train or trolly enthusiast this is a great place to checkout! Very neat collection of some very old trollies. The museum section is small but very informative of the local regional trolly history. Also an interactive display for the kids. The staff was enthusiastic, helpful and full of knowledge. We hope to get back and visit soon. Also, they do holiday themed rides for kids at Christmas etc
Very dissapointing. Not a whole lot to look at. Trolley ride had mechanical issues and we had to walk back.
While the inside of this museum was a little underwhelming your entrance fee pays for a trip on an actual trolley through the woods! The ride itself was 100% worth the cost of admission! There is a miniature set up of a town with a working trolley and lights that the kids can turn off and on. Since we were there at Christmas time there was also a "Santa's Garden" set up with two train sets that were running. Both the trolley and train sets are closed off so the children can not touch them. I will definitely go back to visit this as my son LOVED the trolley ride.
Great for kids interested in rail transit, and for any rail fans, casual or otherwise. The main attraction is the trolley rides that include international and local streetcars, of course, but they also have a nice model layout and informative exhibits focusing on local transit history. Great deal on birthday parties and special events. Almost entirely a volunteer operation. Small museum, but interactive and never too crowded. Be sure to check out special events like Holly Trolley in December.
I got promotional mails from Groupon. But when I visit this website it says its temporarily closed until further notice. Then why are sending promotional codes? check it out before buying tickets online.
Nice ride. Loved the idea with Santa ride. Kids loved it. Good amount of history, pictures, exhibits. Wish it had some more of everything. Otherwise, the whole visit can take up to 40 min.
The trolley ride and trolley barn tour are good. The model is fun for little kids. The rest of the museum is kind of limited.
Great place for the family. Fun ride through the woods.
Great little trolley museum for the kids. Trolley rides as well.
It's fun experience for everyone. The place is run by volunteer staff who are really enthusiastic about the museum. They take pride in explaining about the museum and the history of trolleys
My father brought me here as a child and now I get to do the same for my son. What a great tradition you have made for my family. THANK YOU!!
Extremely rude staff with borderline abusive behavior. Otherwise, museum was boring. Most of the kids cried or try to wonder off. If somebody did walk a few steps away from the guide he said that they have to stand next to him or leave. Mind you they have nothing of value there that can't be approached. The ride was alright but not very picturesque with views of highways and open fields.
As a transit nerd, it was very cool to ride DC's first PCC trolley car!
Great volunteers ready to share their knowledge of trolley cars with you.
Purchased their birthday party package for our 6-year-old and it was AMAZING. We had way more kids than expected because everyone in his class was so excited to take the trolley ride. Trolley ride was AWESOME. Conductor Paris and driver Spencer were great with the kids. Staff was super flexible about us using the party room. Just a fabulous experience that I can t recommend enough.
Amazing history and a 2 mile track to take a nice ride through the forest
A phenomenal hidden gem. Great trolleys and the ride is very relaxing. Price wise this is cheaper then most kids train rides, you get to do it many times, you can see wild life on the ride, there is a chance for multiple vehicles so a different one for different rides. The movies are also funny and good for kids
Great for kids and a wonderful place to learn about the history of the trolleys. Would definitely go back.
It was a good day to enjoy and see how far we have come in the last 50 years from street cars to busess to metro trains and etc.
Ride on a trolley and see the restoration facility.
Small museum but packed with information. Rode the trolley 3 times with my grandsons, ages 10 to 5. They all really enjoyed the museum.
This is a small, but curious museum. Worth at least 30-60 minutes of browsing and a trolley ride. Very quaint.
Loved it. Ideal place to go with the family. It has parking, the tram ride through the forest is not free, I paid 10 dollars. The visit to the museum and explanations are given by the driver / tram driver. The photo collection is not impressive but it is cool. In the depot there are several disabled trams where he provides information and tells a bit of the history of each one, such as which one is from Germany or Belgium. The cool thing in my opinion is the snow cleaner. Do not set expectations because it is small but for railroad lovers as it matters little.
A strange ode to yesteryear. Cool if you're really into streetcars. Very small. Not many exhibits. The best thing about it is the two-mile long ride in an old streetcar/trolley.
This is a nice trolley museum with a short trolley ride and some nice exhibits (including a holiday train layout) and a miniature train exhibit year -round. Our grandkids have taken us there a few times, including once for a birthday party. Well worth at least one visit if you are in the area looking for a place to go with kids, or for adults with an interest in trolleys. They have quite a collection of antique trolleys on their guided tours.
A small museum with trolley ride, short story movies (fun historical) and a miniature town with transportation. Restroom and gift shop available inside.
Excellent destination for family. It is a volunteer run museum that is a must see for every Washingtonian, whether you are into railroads or not. Fascinating history of DC's cable cars (technically not pulled by cable), their growth and demise brought to life with multiple real rides with experts from a bygone era. Toddler destination. Reasonably priced. Beautifully restored and maintained
Had our son's 3rd birthday here. Wonderful place, and friendly staff. Many different types of trollies that are in great condition, with many of them still in running order. Great for a party or just a visit.
If you're into trolleys, this is your Nirvana. If not, it's mildly informative. You get a ride in a trolley as part of it.
A diamond in the rough. Well worth the entrance fee.
Great for kids and enthusiasts. Collection of trolleys includes some more than 100 years old. Trolley rides available. Party room available for up to 45 guests.
Has a great time with the kids at a birthday party. The grounds for the rail track are absolutely beautiful. Highly recommended for a quick train fix for the kids
Very enjoyable for kids. We spent a long tome watching the trolley related silent movies.
Small and cute. Couldn't watch the video bc little ones were too little sono attention span. Trolley ride was great and longer than expected. Staff was knowledgeable. Worth the trip. A little hard to find fyi.
My son loves trains and he could have spent hours riding the trolley and turning the model trolley on and off.
Nice wooded venue to ride their vintage trolley collection.
Excellent place to bring the kids. Reasonable price with included trolley ride.
Nice museum conveying the history of the DC area trolley history.
I thought this place would be small and boring but wow was I ever surprised. We had people in our group ages 2 to 67 and all of us were very impressed with the staff, displays and rides. They have many displays, a barn with quite a few trolleys and a couple of miles of track where you can ride different trolleys from different eras. For a small fee we all had a blast. Many in our group remembered the street cars in DC in the 50s and early 60s. They have one of those in the barn with many photos of the old DC system on the walls. What childhood memories we shared! There are funny trolley videos to watch also to add to the fun.
Fun time for all ages, be sure to take the trolley ride when available
My son is obsessed- different trolley every weekend. Birthday party here pretty basic but great for the under 5 crowd
Not a fan. But if you would like to take an old trolley ride, you may want to check it out.
Its a good museum with knowledgeable staff. Streetcar depart from the museum every 30 minutes and take you out into the forest for about 20 minutes. There is also a tour of the car barn seeing display streetcars. The museum is on the small side, the main hall you can cover in 20 minutes. The tour and streetcar ride are probably 40 minutes.
Nice selection of Trolleycars with knowledgeable staff and friendly.
Fun to check out a little bit of history. Santa train was good. Would have appreciated a bit more effort from the big guy himself.
