We have ordered here a few times lately via delivery service, and everything has been wonderful. The kids meals are a great deal and come with a ton of food. My kids & I agree that their chicken tenders may be the best we've ever had.
Pretty good food but overpriced and mediocre service. I was also annoyed that we were stuck in a bland side room when the fancier main dining area had many empty tables. all in all I felt like I've had better dining experiences for better prices. With so many excellent restaurants in this area, I doubt I will come back here again.
Really nice and classy Italian restaurant. Loved the linguine with sea food
FIve stars hands down! Customer service a big fat plus, venue a big fat plus, food OH heck yeah a big fat plus. Thanks for making the night of my honey's proposal one of the most memorable moment in my life.
Good atmosphere. I felt overwhelmed by the menus though.
Food was good however we had a bad experience with one of the waiters and the manager didn t do much about it!
Excellent in every way. My wife's branzino and my scaloppine were excellent. Burrata starter worthy its steep price. Tiramisu spectacular, cappuccino very well prepared. We are coming back!
It costed 20 dollars for microwaved pasta and was very unsanitary
After a long apt with a doctor across the street, decided to come here for dinner. We ended up here because of the crazy long wait at all the other restaurants nearby.
What I ate:
- Bruschetta: Free with yelp check in, and pretty tasty. Really fresh and garlicky.
- Pear salad: This was surprisingly tasty. A nice mix of sweet and fresh from the pear paired with the slightly sharp bitterness of the radicchio. There was a nice combo of textures. I liked this salad.
- Seafood pasta: This was plated table side. It came out on a hot pan and smelled amazing as it was making its way through the dining room towards. The flavors were also amazing. Seafood was all cooked well, not overcooked, which is easy to do with seafood, and suppppperrrr garlicky
- Spaghetti with Bolognese: This was delicious, hearty, and meaty, but I don't think I could crave this compared to the other dishes we ate
Pros:
- That Yelp check in freebie!
- There was really great olive oil to dip your bread in
- Food was all amazing. The pasta, especially the seafood pasta was well flavored
- Staff was friendly
- Big restaurant, and compared to all the other restaurants in the area, this place had no wait. I saw plenty of people walking in after shopping
- Large bar area
- Bathrooms were clean
Cons:
- Staff was friendly, but nonexistent when I wanted to order another glass of wine or get the check. I waited so long that I ended up not getting another glass of wine, and skipping dessert
Would I come again? Probably not since I'm not in this area too often.
Eat your way through the left side of the menu. Then the right side. Oh my goodness that's good, whether you recognize the name of it or not. High quality, reasonable prices, bright and clean space. Go there and eat!
Food was very good but not great. We sat in the patio because the acoustics are way too loud for intimate conversation. Maybe we just had bad luck but our waitress was overwhelmed with 10 or 12 tables so it took 30 minutes before I got a glass of wine that I was trying to order from the moment I sat down. The appetizer we ordered was delicious.
I don't think we'll be revisiting this restaurant for dinner but we will check out the happy hour $6 Pizza
Canaletto made our Valentine's Day very special. Nice atmosphere, great food, great service and a nice Rose for Valentine. Sure was a perfect evening date on Valentine's Day.
The food is on the pricer side, however it is worth it. Best scallops I've ever eaten.
Related to Il Fornio, which can be excellent depending on their ever changing regional menu. Canalettos is exceptionally great Italian cuisine. Can be very busy however the large facility is usually able to take walk-in busy although reservations are best. Valet parking available and plenty of self parking. Just a wonderful, moderately expensive, Italian restaurant that everyone loves the you have that gourmet Italian craving.
This was a good place, but not superb. I got the cioppino which was not the best I had. The prices were too much for what they served.
This Newport Beach restaurant is a member of the same chain as IL Fornaio, where I occasionally go near my home in the San Francisco Bay area. Located in an upscale shopping mall about 10 minutes from John Wayne Airport, with convenient, free parking right across the street. Staff are friendly and accommodating, food is excellent, prices are reasonable, and decor is attractive. Not too crowded on the Monday I was there for lunch. They didn't seem to mind that we stayed and talked for quite a while after the check arrived. All in all a positive experience, and I would definitely go back. Suitable for business lunches, dates, special occasions, etc.
I enjoy the food, great wine, and loved the dessert, very crowded.
Excellent food, very good service, you have to try the burrata, ask for a Pinot Noir BYRON, the gnocci
I had high expectations for Canaletto, because the menu looked authentic and pretty enticing. I ended up being underwhelmed, sadly: the place is big, as frequently restaurants are in the US (and that in my experience makes it harder to ensure a high quality), the ambiance feels a bit overloaded to me, in terms of colour and decor. Service was fast and welcoming. The food was disappointing in many ways: I tried the Oysters, that ended up being a bit small and not particularly subtle or rich in flavour. The chicken polpettine with polenta, mushrooms and gorgonzola were way too salty (I think the meatballs were the culprit) and with an excess of truffle oil making the whole dish feel unbalanced and, again, unsubtle. Finally, the casonzei con stracchino e pere were a little better, but the cheese sauce was almost surely not made with stracchino, as it was thick, dense and very heavy, making the whole dish, again... unsubtle. Overall, the feeling I got was that the place is a big, industrial operation that produces an average approximation of Italian food but charges the kind of premium that would be justified for a much higher quality experience. The highlight of the dinner was the glass of wine I got served, which even though very expensive was undoubtedly great quality. 4 stars for service, 3 stars for quality, 2 stars for value for money.
Food was real bad we sent back my wifes fish was spoiled, mine was over cooked. Even the espresso was bad. Avoid this one, we should have known when it was fairly empty.
We had lobster pasta and Branzino fish. Our server, Athos, gave us a special experience and amazing energy. Amazing to try if you are in the area
How about very pricy for what you get. How about my wife or I can make better sauces. Was looking forward to a nice late lunch dinner, Italian sounded good, decided to give Canaletto a shot. First time last time. I've had better meals at Olive Garden, not wild about them either.
Love this place! Amazing food and the SERVICE IS AWESOME!
Must try octopus salad. Great high class Italian restaurant
Incredible service...upscale and upsell. Mgt is available and open-minded. Michele is a wonderful waitress and Bart is awesome and accommodating!
Risotto was phenomenal. Calamari appetizer perfect.
Excellent food. Attentive service. Seating is a little close quarters.
Pizza is fantastic here. The Tera mi su is better than the ones in Rome. Well worth it!
Haven't been here in a while but I took my Dad for lunch today. He and I really enjoyed it.
For lunch, they have a $25 3-course lunch menu. It's a great value for what you get. I picked the Insalata Canaletto, Salmone Con Insalata and Affogato Con Gelato. My dad picked the Calmari with potatos, the pasta with sausage (don't remember the name) and the same Affogato Con Gelato dessert.
We both have no complaints about the food or service. It was delightful! Nothing beats a tasty menu in a cool summer day in the patio.
My dad really liked their bread so he was able to buy a full extra loaf for barely $2.50... cheaper than what you can get from Alberson's.
Beautiful decorations, relax atmosphere, good service ever!
A outstanding Italian restaurant . Food and service were excellent.
The service was excellent.
I was very pleased with the delicious food .
My boyfriend and I spent our Sunday evening there for my birthday. All in all we both really enjoyed our visit and will be absolutely coming back. The food was amazing and the service was even better. The hoist never let our beverages go empty and the waiter Luis was absolutely phenomenal. His sense of humor, passion for the yummy tasting food, and contagious laugh really made our first visit here such a pleasant one. I am 100% pleased with our overall experience. 6 stars if I could!!!
Best Capricciosa I've had in the US, friendly staff and a nice big bar with excellent drinks.
Excellent Italian restaurant with excellent service
Wonderful restaurant with great food, great drinks, great service (shout out to Tammy), and great atmosphere. Don't waste your time at any other restaurant in fashion island. Treat yourself to a lovely meal here and you will not be disappointed. We'll be back.
They couldn t sit 8 of us on their patio for the happy hour we end up sitting in the dining room the service was good the food was awesome we end up spending a lot more than what we were planning but the manager was nice and send us a beautiful delicious dessert plate they need to train their BB
Not to stare at guests he was making me very uncomfortable
It looks pretty but I was not impressed with the food. I ordered a Capresse salad, which was good. The bread was ok and the olive oil and balsamic vinegar mix they serve was terrible. The vinegar was overly bitter. So I did not eat that when usually I love that. For my main course I ordered Beef Carpaccio which was 4 pieces of thinly sliced beef with no flavor what so ever. When the bill came at the very top was a 20.35 charge for something we did not order. There was also a 14.00 charge for a cocktail that I ordered off the happy hour menu that the waiter handed to me open to the happy hour drinks.
When I asked our waiter about the 2 charges he immediately said the 20.35 was a mistake and he went to see about getting them too give me the 8.00 charge for happy hour.
He came back and babbled on about honoring the 8.00 then dropped the check. I thought he said he would honor the happy hour price for a drink that was not ever very good. I only drank half.
Needless to say I will not go back there it was my first and last time.
But if you decide to go make sure you read fine print on happy hour menu and check you final bill so there is not a charge for something you did not even order.
Goes to show looking pretty spent always determine the quality in a restaurant.
Good food, great service. Doesn't feel like a chain, but it is. Ideal location. Worth trying if you are in the area.
There's a few times in life when the service is so exceptional that it is nothing short of divine. I have had this experience every time at Canaletto Ristorante Veneto.
For upscale, elegant dining, this fantastic, high-class Italian restaurant in Newport Beach is among the best, offering delicious Italian cuisine in a lustrous dining room with intimate, cozy lighting and wood-beamed ceilings. This is among the best around.
Attentive and courteous staffers treat each customer like royalty. The real gem is their welcoming general manager Gian Paolo - a marvelous and brilliant young man who makes you feel like family. He takes the time to greet and speak with all of his visitors. All the service here is caring and creates a suitable atmosphere and experience. The hospitality, warmth, and generosity tends to this lovely restaurant that is enhanced by freshly made pasta, warm bread, and generous portions.
Let's not forget the food. The skillfully prepared menu features everything from your traditional antipasti (appetizers), like the popular Calamaretti Fritti, to their world-class entrees, like their Linguine Buranella -pasta with clams, mussels, prawns and scallops tossed with spicy tomato sauce, Trebbiano wine, garlic, Calabrian peppers and anchovies - and their premium priced 22 oz bone-in prime ribeye steak, served with roasted Yukon Gold potatoes, sauteed organic spinach and baked white beans (the Costata di Manzo). Their selection of meat, poultry and fish is fresh and cooked to perfection. Delicious soups, salads, pizza, pasta, gnocchi, ravioli are all available to enjoy. Their dedicated wine selection is impressive. I personally have tried every dessert on their "Dolci" menu. Their cannoli is packed with a creamy and fluffy filling - heaven's dose of delight. Their Sgroppino, or the Venetian way to finish a meal, successfully prepares the palate for dessert. However, the real winner is the Soffiato al Cioccolato, an incredible almond and hazelnut chocolate cake served warm with caramel sea salt gelato, which melts in your mouth and shows off the heaven-sent harmony and combination between chocolate cake and caramel gelato.
While you'd think to save this place for a special occasion, their happy hour menu is a steal. Their prices coupled with an elegant setting that is comfortable will impress a partner, boss, or family member.
You will not be disappointed. Canaletto Ristorante Veneto delivers a phenomenal menu, extraordinary service, and a memorable experience.
Ok, I was quite pleased with the dish, that I got, however the same can't be said of my companion. This place specializes in on site food creation which can seem better on one level on the other what you may enjoy about the food may not be the thing that get preserved. So its a mixed review.
We ordered two different house specialties as well as a special appetizer. All were very good and fresh as well. Service was prompt and we were well tended. Extensive wine list too. Great experience. Maybe slightly pricey but when you consider the location then maybe not so much.
Food was generous & tasty. Waiter was cute but kept forgetting things. Happy hour on sun!
If you are looking for professionality then this is it
Perfecto
Service and food were great. Love the ambiance. Great location to celebrate.
Food tasted amazing! Looks pricy, but worth your money. Brilliant service too
Food and service was amazing! The lobster bisque was buttery and tomatoey just so good. Also they had a fish special with scallops and polenta absolutely amazing!
For the price, I expected a lot more. My friend ordered gnocchi with gorganzola and had to ask for fresh ground pepper to spice it up. She said there was just a hint of the cheese flavor. My risotto was flavorful and beautifully plated but it was aldente and dry. I expected it to be rich and creamy. I ordered a 9oz glass of zinfandel from Paso which was nice but overpriced at $20.00. The waiter had tried to up-sell to a full bottle. For lunch, really? 15 minutes or so after we had finished eating, I was offered a stained dessert menu. My friend selected a scoop of Gelato and we ordered decaf. About 5 minutes later, we got the coffee. We drank most of it until it was almost cold then the waiter dropped off the partially melted dessert. We didn't ask so we were not offered a warm up of the coffee. All in all, I will not go back there for a so so $82 lunch (before tip). Did I mention we were there from 12:45 until almost 3 with many empty tables.
Everything here is awesome! Renne is an awesome bartender so if you come here, ask for him!
