There is/was a hemlock tree at this camp near the road sort of in the middle of the camp. This tree is why I live in NC. I fell in love with these mountains because of that tree. Sounds weird, but it was a defining moment in my life. Now it certainly helped tremendously that this tree is/was located in Camp Carolina where I also got to first experience cold mountain lake water and living in a cabin with cool summer nights.

I first went there in the early '60s for 4 weeks when I was 8, next year for 6 weeks. The next year after my parents and I considered allowing me to attend for 4 and 6 week sessions. But we decided maybe that was too much. But my life there as a kid was like heaven. I absolutely loved those summers!

I know the camp has changed over the years, adding more activities. But I'll bet they still carry on the tradition of giving honor campers a branded paddle during the weekly bonfires. Mine happens to be within arm's reach of my desk as I write this. Obviously I highly recommend Camp Carolina!

Camp Carolina was a wonder experience! I spent 7 summers here as a camper and CA, and it changed my life. Practically ALL the fun recreational stuff I have done during my life, I learned here. Canoeing, riding, archery, hiking, camping, fishing, orienteering, shooting, survival skills, and just how to be a nice, fair, and moral person who looks someone in the eye with a firm handshake.. you really get to be a boy here. You learn skills that help make a man out of the boy, but taught in a caring way.

I have spent 8 years as a camper and soon 1-2 years as a CA and eventually counselor if I can, this placed made me a better person and really let me explore who I am, I don t know who I would be without CCB and all the friends I ve made there. The friends you make at camp will last a life time, after only 4 weeks sharing a cabin with them or being in the same tribe, you have a bond that you share with no one else, no one cares about the problems of the world when your their. The counselors are amazing people too, they re more than just your counselor, they are like family and every year it s amazing to see some of the old counselors and meet the new. I look forward to CCB every year and I don t know where I would be without it. If you are thinking about sending your kid their, stop thinking just do it, it ll change their life.

Update: First Year as a CA; Being a CA is VERY different from being a camper, you have a lot more responsibility and do a ton of work. But that makes it fun in its own way. This year was one of my best if not the best despite the extra work and lack of a lot of free time. We set up and clean up the dinning hall for every meal, which is a big pain but we help camp function by doing so and it s good experience. We do trail maintenance for community service which give us hours but also let s us have experience in hard work like moving large logs, cutting logs and clearing large areas, all which can be surprisingly fun. We also have a lot of secret traditions and things we do that are AWESOME. After a session of hard work we do things that really help us appreciate the time we spent at camp and the work we did. I would 100% recommend coming back as a CA

As being a camper for 6 years, and having the privilege of being a CA ( counselors assistant) I grew up in this beautiful mountain scape, and made life long friends I call my brothers. This is a place full of love, smiles, and enthusiasm. This place has a very special place in my heart and I will NEVER forget the firm handshake and smile offered by the counselors when you first drive in on opening day.

My son Bode is enjoying the 1st session / 3 weeks, he is 8 turning 9 this summer. We had the privilege of meeting all the councilors at a dinner the night before opening day. This camp is TOP NOTCH, they employ a TON of councilors- for the younger campers the ratio is like 1 per 3 kids. The young men and ladies they employ are all well mannered, energetic and mostly from the UK and other places around the world with beautiful accents :) On opening day the greeting was fantastic so much for my son to do he barely wanted to say good-bye. The camp does an excellent job showing daily photos and blogging to keep parents happy. I've seen my son go on a hike and river rafting within the first 2 days. All smiles!!! He sent a letter thanking us for sending him and is so happy to be there no mention of home-sickness at all! He is doing more in 1-week at CCB than we could do in an entire summer- with young enthusiastic role models abound! This is something definitely worth doing! We'll be back in 2016 for sure!!! "What a Day!"

Absolutely love these people. They truly care for the kids as if they were their own. The counselors are second to none. The property backs up to The Pisgah National Forest and so the location couldn't be better!! Both of my boys have gone for multiple years and hit both had amazing experiences.

My two boys have been going for 4 years consecutively. I gave them the option of Hawaii for a month or camp and they chose camp? Really, so that should tell you right there. I will add that they are super "enthusiastic" and really engaging with the boys. I would recommend this for any boy. I wish I could go.

I was a camper at CCB for seven years, and became a counselor assistant for the last two years. My experiences here have taught me lessons that I will value for the rest of my life. Before becoming a camper, I sat at home all day playing video games when I wasn't at school. My first year as a seven year old camper absolutely changed my outlook on life. I was able to have more fun than I ever had without any kind of electronics. From learning how to survive in the woods, overnight hiking/mountain biking trips, kayaking, rafting, meeting an uncountable amount of amazing people from all over the world, I was exposed to a way of life that many kids will never be able to experience; and I absolutely loved it. I cannot express with words how important this place was in forming the person who I am today. I love this place, and will cherish and miss my experiences here for the rest of my life. Thank you so much Camp Carolina. - Charlie Skogen

My son attended CCB in the 1990 s. He loved it. His son, my grandson, now attends CCB. After my grandson s first summer experience, he told me, Granny, 2 weeks is not enough. So, 3 weeks it is. CCB is his happy place.
