The truly care about the animals they service. And every time that I come, I got a follow-up phone call a week or so later checking in on how things are going. I've never not had a professional vet visit.
Going to the vet is always expensive and exotic pets are no different. You have to be prepared for the price.
My hedgehog, Zora, has an oral tumor / cancer (there is some fancy name but I can never remember it) and Dr. Julie DeCubellis has been really amazing! I have been bringing Zora for check-ups and getting refills of pain medicine and antibiotics until her quality of life is no longer. I have seen Dr. DeCubellis twice and she is so friendly, compassionate and really cares about animals. The first time I saw her she spent a considerable amount of time with us and did not make us feel rushed through the appointment at all. When I had a concern she called me and talked to me about it over the phone, which I thought was very nice. Really good communication, very impressed! She is so great with hedgehogs, if your hedgehog requires attention then I would highly recommend Dr. DeCubellis. Although I am sure she is good with all animals... I feel lucky to have her as my vet :)
Friendly, helpful doctors. We drive in from Medicine Hat for them to take care of our bun.

I have been going to Calgary Avian & Exotic for over 10 years now and they are the best in the city. Having had many ups and downs (admittedly more downs, but it is a vet, so not always good reasons to go in) over the years, they have been very compassionate and caring. As much as I don't like leaving my rabbits with anyone, I know they will be in good hands here. Dr. Materi in particular is great. She handles my rabbits well, even when they are not being cooperative, Tesla actually trying to bite the scope to avoid his teeth being checked. I have recommended this clinic and will continue to recommend them.
I know they are busy, and there can be a wait to see the vet, but when the vet is with you, they are focused on you. I can put up with a bit of a wait knowing someone else is getting excellent care.
My skinny pig's teeth need regular trimming. They give me a discount. They are nice to my pigs and they know what they are doing.
Fantastic clinic! I took my ferrets there to get their vaccines and I was very nervous because I know that vaccine reactions can happen with ferrets. The vet was very patient with answering all of my questions and made me feel extremely reassured that they had the experience to do the vaccines. My girls are doing great!
We ve been bringing our rabbit, George, here for going on 4 years and they have always taken the best care of him. They re incredibly knowledgeable and the best place in the city for exotic pets.
I could not ask for a better clinic then this one! We've had all three vets at the practice in the past and each has proven they are experts in their fields and have been fantastic to work with. We have had a lot of difficult cases come through, whether it be our own critters or the rescues we get in, and each one has been treated with the utmost respect and care.
We've brought them plenty of bunnies with difficult cases (Abscess removal from the throat, Femoral head ostectomy, a rabbit with over 100 bladder stones, wounds that needed surgery, an ear canal removal and many more!), a guinea pig, a chinchilla, a hedgehog and a hamster, and each time has always been the best experience we could ask for.
We owe so much to the Doctor's and the wonderful techs at this clinic, my rabbits are my everything and I can't imagine leaving them in the hands of anyone when they need care but the staff at this clinic.
They truly care when you visit and want to follow up with you with a care plan that works for you and your bird(s) From the front end, to the assistants to the vet: all have huge hearts and are in the right careers! Thankyou
Just due to timing, my husband has always been the one to bring our hedgehog and turtle to appointments here. He's always raved about the staff but it wasn't until the other day that I got to experience this for myself with our hedgehog.
Dr. D and Rebekah were amazing, so thorough and knowledgeable. Rebekah's ability to handle our little guy in a kind manner that still allowed for an examination was so impressive and I appreciated the time she took after to explain medication administration. Dr. D explained the medical side of things thoroughly and made appropriate recommendations for tests/treatments.

Today I brought kisa (my ball python) to this vet. I was really nervous because I have never brought a pet to a vet before (kisa is my first pet) and I have heard some good and some very scary reviews of how some vets (different vets around the city) treat snakes. I read the reviews on this page and there isn't any for a snake. When I arrived the lady at the front desk was really nice and made me feel welcome, she lead me to a room and shortly the vet came in. Dr. Julie DeCubellis was very kind and gentle with kisa, she talked to me about what they look for during a snake check up and ask me questions about how I care for kisa. She gently held kisa and when kisa fought against her (kisa didn't like having her head held to get her eyes and mouth checked.) The vet was kind enough to ask a couple more vets to help hold kisa so she wouldn't hurt herself, they were quick and after kisa calmed down she warmed back up to the vets right away.i was very impressed with their knowledge and how they treated kisa. I plan to continue bringing kisa here for annual check ups and I would recommend them to any snake owner. Thank you so much, Dr. Julie DeCubellis, for taking care of my baby :) it means a lot to me.
I have brought my Green Cheek Conure here twice now and wouldn't bring her anywhere else. The vets and techs are always so gentle and kind to her. They care and when a concern is brought up they do everything they can to make sure it's not anything major. Everyone is kind and caring not only to the pets but the owners as well. I would recommend this clinic to anyone with an exotic or avian. They are truly stellar.
My bunnies have been patients since 2015. Best staff and best vets i have experienced, exotic animals or not. My bunny, Koopa, has congenital respiratory problems and the only vet who was able to help keep him alive and comfortable/happy has been Dr. Chapman, who is also an owner of the clinic. Thank you a million times!
The vets are always very kind, and highly informative when giving suggestions on how best to take care of/help your pets. I've been seeing the avian vets here for a few years with my little birdy, and they're very considerate towards both me and my baby. Also, my vet used gender neutral pronouns when referring to me, which was cool to see as a genderqueer person!
So very pleased with the treatment of my bunny. We are visiting twice a week and I feel like my baby is in good hands every time. Excellent vets here. Fairly priced and friendly.

Dr. Materi is a goddamn champ. Just the best human being. I always ask for her first. She is knowledgable, has impeccable bedside manner and it is obvious she cares deeply for her patients. I always feel fully informed of my options. I can't praise her enough.
Dr. Korber is no nonsense. I've seen her only a handful of times. I was nervous at first because her bedside manner is not soft HOWEVER she is a staunch professional. On one occasion I wanted to go down the full 6 million dollar man route and she talked me down to a prudent, medically informed patience. She could have taken me to the cleaners but this woman is a doctor and she practices medical science, not needless price gauging.
Dr. Chapman is new for me, but I gotta say I like what I see. Great bedside, knowledgable and knows how to communicate with her clients.
From the front desk, techs and docs, you will not find a better veterinary clinic for your rabbit in Calgary.

If you have a Rabbit don t take it anywhere BUT here. I m usually a nervous wreck when I take my animals to the vet but they always calm me down and really help me through the process. Not only that but they are very knowledgeable & give some amazing advice. My rabbits had never gone anywhere before coming to the vet & it couldn t have gone better!!

Brought hamster with eye issues, they charged for the inspection and applied another charge to put him to slip. Pet owners already stressed enough and on top deal with ripoff, if you know that pet could not survive why would you charge for treatment. Not professional.
Both Drs. Korber and Materi are tremendous. They've been taking good care of our bunnies for six years. The staff is super friendly and they still have the best deals on hay around. Highly recommended.

Really great Vet clinic for exotic animals. Many veterinarians are inexperienced with ferrets but the staff here have been great with my two current ferrets and my other previous one.
I've only had one appointment here so far with Dr. Chapman, but they've been great. My friend recommended me to them for my new bird. I had a health checkup, and they were very respectful and professional about everything. I'm glad my bird is in the hands of people who are experts in birds, rather than mammals. It makes me feel a lot more secure in their advice and knowledge.

The vets are amazing! Experts in their field! But some of the front staff are insensitive and don't know when/how/where to refer to an emergency clinic. My rabbit stopped eating and drinking water and I was told to do what I think is best. No direction or referral in preventing him from dying from dehydration. Don't even bother calling for things like that, find somewhere else ahead of time and prepare yourself. My mistake. The facebook team was much more helpful and I appreciate their response to my emergency. they hopefully will follow through with addressing this with staff.
If you have a snake these are the vets to see. They are very knowledgeable and were able to correctly diagnose my snakes issues immediately.
Our bearded dragon was well taken care of by Dr Chapman. She gave us a lot of information about that kind of reptiles and how to make sure that the terrarium is set up proprerly. The staff is very friendly.

Our Ball Python, Little Monty, got a terrible thermal burn from one of those stupid heat mats. We honestly thought he would not make it on several occasions, but throughout the process we had compassionate guidance and advice from Kerry. She presented us with all options every time and never made us feel bad about what we chose.
We just want to say how unbelievably grateful we are, because Monty is now 100% healed and healthy, eating weekly and has no more issues. We truly feel like he got a second chance all because of Dr Gorber's care and compassion
We are SO impressed with the staff at this facility. With the current conditions of social distancing we were devastated our beloved budgie got very very ill.
Although they could not let us into the clinic they did all the extra s. It is specifically our 7 year old daughters pet, and she has been very distraught.
These kind people not only showed pictures of our baby to me outside the clinic through the window... they also took several pictures of our budgie in the incubator and emailed them to us. This was an incredible comfort to us all but especially our 7 year old.
No only pictures but more then one call a day to update us.
If anyone wants kind and competent care for their bird this is the place to bring them.

I found that I had a better experience with Dr. Weger at the Calgary North. He is kind, patient, and explains things in detail.
My rabbit Dackary died on the way home from the Avian and Exotic Pet Clinic after he received an x-ray and medications. I wish I could have ended his misery and suffering by putting him down; I wish I could have held him in my arms.
I made a complaint with the ABVMA and I learned that Dr. Korber stated that she told me that the x-ray might lead to my rabbit dying, that he might 'decompensate' due to the x-rays but that is not my recollection at all.
I hope that in the future, communication is very clear.

Brought my bird in and they were very gentle with him. I do have some things that upset me but overall I can trust that they are good with the animals that go in there.
Dr. DeCubellis is a truly wonderful and attentive vet. I have taken my frogs in to see her a couple times and she has been nothing but great, very knowledgeable and she seems to do lots of research both before bringing my animals in and after.
Horrible customer service indeed, Had a doe rabbit that I had found and she had a litter of kits, I was referred here when the doe had a prolapsed uterus and who ever answered the phone told me to go to the humane society instead, had she let me talk instead of interrupting she would have known that the doe had her kits in my home and that I was trying to set up an appointment not surrender the mother or her kits, now I have 3 orphaned kits and had to have the mother euthanized. Date of occurrence feb9/2015. Extremely upset and heart broke and will be spreading this info to everyone that I know.

The staff made a very difficult day a little easier. They also understand the financial implications and never tried to take advantage of a grieving person like other clinics I have been to. We took our pet mouse here - once for treatment and then for a follow up.
It was the only vet in Calgary that was comfortable seeing a mouse and they fit us into an urgent spot. The vets were very compassionate, caring, informative and honest.

Absolutely the best vets in town After being charged and misdiagnosed they took such good care of us!
Hearing so many wonderful things about Calgary Avian and Exotics i am extremely disappointed with their service.
Our poor little hedgehog suffered a eye proptosis and for those that don't know that is when a hedgehogs eye falls out of the socket. As soon as this happened we immediately took our little hedgie to the emergency vet. They gave her pain killers to last until the morning. Until we could see our regular vet which used to be Calgary Avian. So we went home and waited till Calgary avian opened for the day and called in at 8:03am, 3 minutes after they opened. And given information by a friend who spent a day volunteering there and information from other clinics in Calgary we knew they saved slots throughout the day for emergencies and referrals from other clinics. How ever, when we called we were told that they didn't do emergency appointments and couldn't see us for another week. So without any information or a referral from Calgary avian we were left to frantically look for a place that deals with exotics. Imagine our frustration when over half of the vets we called said we had to go to Calgary avian, one even calling on our behalf.
My partner and I brought our Dwarf Rabbit in this morning, for his first veterinary visit. We seen Dr. Kerry, and were beyond impressed. She was extremely kind, personal and thorough - with a great sense of humor, too! We felt very comfortable and taken care of. She took the time to ensure that we understood everything she discussed with us, and was more than happy to answer questions. It was so nice that we did not feel rushed or confused. We are so glad that we chose this clinic for our rabbit's care. Also, while waiting in the waiting area, i observed that Nikki, the receptionist, was performing excellency within her role. She was quite obviously very busy, but she was multi-tasking superbly - all while remaining calm and pleasant. This was an overall 10/10 experience.
Now, we just need to come up with a name for our little guy, before his next visit!
Alot of people have suggested this vet for my rabbits, which I was super excited too find a vet that does well with rabbits, but when I called to inquire about some of their services, the front end staff was honestly horrible. The lady who answered my call acted like I was inconveniencing her day, by sighing, and even grunting. She seemed almost as if she was annoyed that she had to do her job and answer my questions. She even got argumentative and defensive when I asked a few questions. This was unfortunately suprising to me as I've heard nothing but great things about this clinic. I had planned to make this my forever vet, but unfortunately after that experience weather the vets there are great or not, I won't be bringing my rabbits here.
Best care for you small or exotic pet. Pricey though.

I have pet budgies. I find that often people don't realize how sweet and entertaining they can be. The folks at Calgary Avian are completely kind caring and compassionate. The girls at the front are always smiling and friendly. They are easy to chat with. And Gary??? It is so soothing to hear the beautiful sounds of Gary the dove when I go in. He's a superstar lol! I see Dr. Chapman and she is wonderful with my girls. She is very honest if I am doing something wrong etc. Dr. C is a book of knowledge. I have no doubt that ALL of the vets in this clinic are amazing and compassionate. I wouldn't hesitate to take my girls to any of them! I lost one of my babies a few months ago and in the office a candle was lit for my sweet boy. A few days later I got a beautiful card from the clinic in the mail. Reasonable prices also. My "only" clinic when my girls need Spa Day lol
Dr. D and her staff were amazing with my parrot. She did a thorough examination and prescribed medication for her once the results came in and faxed it to the vet closest to me as I live out of town. Thank you Ladies for all the extra advice.
