You wait in line forever just for them to tell you that they are out of ice cream flavors. Why wouldn't you put a sign on the door so people don't wait in line? Happens too often. One of the owners who is there at night is not friendly at all. She never smiles and doesn't even say hello to her regular customers. This place does so well because it's the only ice cream shop left in the area and they are involved with functions around the city.

The ice cream is average, but lots of flavors, hot fudge is excellent. Good ambiance too. Probably a good place after a soccer game, but definitely not a go-to.
The menu is robust and the ice cream is delicious. A special note for those with food allergies: Cabots is extremely food allergy friendly! My peanut and treenut allergic child was able to enjoy what he wanted off the menu (from the grill and fryer) and also got his favorite ice cream! They open a new container and clean all utensils before getting ice cream for an allergic diner. Amazing! Wish I could give more stars!
The staff are friendly and the food is very affordable. The ice cream is absolutely fabulous! I took my mom here while she was visiting; she enjoyed it so much we came back again the following weekend before she left. Thank you!
I have been going to Cabot's for 15+ years and have always had a wonderful experience. Food, staff and ice cream are great. The menu is extensive and the specials change frequently enough to keep it interesting. The place is cash only. Good place to bring family and friends.
Our experience was just ok. Grilled cheese was delicious, the fries were unremarkable. I ordered a chicken parmesan plate, and the chicken was very dry, sauce was bland. Ice cream options are awesome but overpriced.
TERRIBLE SERVICE. ONLY CALLED TO INQUIRE IF I COULD SUBMIT MY CAKE ORDER VIA EMAIL, AS THEY ONLY GIVE YOU A FAX OPTION ON THE FORM BUT WHO USES FAXES AT THIS POINT. I CALLED, ASKED IF THERE WAS AN EMAIL ADDRESS, GUY WAS RUSHING THE CALL, TELLING ME I SHOULD JUST CALL HIM BACK IN 15 MINS, HE WAS BUSY WITH OTHER ORDERS, AND SOUNDED VERY IRRITATED, I TOLD HIM I HAD ALREADY SPENT THE TIME FILLING OUT THE FORM, HE GOT EVEN MORE AGGRAVATED AND SAID FINE JUST EMAIL IT! EMAIL IT! AND HANG UP ON ME. I WAS SHOOK, DID NOT DESERVE OR EXPECT THAT KIND OF ATTITUDE, DIDN'T GET AN EMAIL ADDRESS, AND GOT RUDLY HUNG UP ON. I DON'T EVEN LIVE CLOSE BY, BUT I DON'T EVER INTEND TO EVER EVER BUY FROM THERE AGAIN. ESPECIALLY WHEN ONE IS CALLING ABOUT A SPECIAL DAY IN SOMEONES LIFE, AND THE PROCESS SHOULD BE FRIENDLY, POSITIVE, AND A HAPPY ONE. SO DISGUSTED WITH HOW I WAS TREATED. NOT SURE WHY I WOULD EVEN CONSIDER THEM, THEIR CAKES ARE OK, SUPER BASIC, NOT GOOD QUALITY ICE CREAM. INSTEAD I AM GOING SOMEWHERE LOCAL, WHERE I AM TREATED WITH FRIENDLY AND GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, WITH HIGH END QUALITY GOURMET ICE CREAM, WHERE I KNOW I AM BUYING MY CAKE WHERE THERE IS POSITIVE HAPPY VIBES, AND GREAT SERVICE FOR A GREAT PRODUCT - NEW CITY CREAMERY! EXCELLENT, QUALITY ICE CREAM AND CAKES!
Great food and ice cream, portion sizes are enormous! Friendly staff as well but be aware that they only accept cash. ATM is available right outside for your convenience.
I went here with my wife for dinner and ice cream on a Sunday night and it was very satisfying. It was a busy night but we didnt have to wait long and the staff was very attentive. Breakfast is served all day so it's nice to be able to get something small, I recommend the French toast, and then some ice cream. Once you get your check you bring it up to the register to pay, and its cash only. There is a small atm inside the entrance as well if you need it.
Always reliably good! A go to place for ice cream cakes, cupcakes, baked alaska and other creations. ALL DELICIOUS! Prompt and friendly service as well!
As a heads up, 2 very unclear lanes for sit down and to go and it was obvious it was our first time last night. No one gave us a heads up so we ended up grabbing food after ice cream 200ft away at a different place based purely on principle
Not as good as I remembered. This is still a very busy place. You will find that later in the day the floor is kinda sticky and place is so little messy. The ice cream is still good but the portions have suffered. You should grab a cone or as bowl to go.
This is a great ice cream store, and out door bistro. They have a great variety of luch, dinners and ice cream, from cheese burgers, salads, fish and chips and ice cream pies. Great family-friendly place that harkens back to days gone bye, you have to try it, one thing you have to know, no Sundaes on Monday's
If you are in Newton you HAVE to stop by Cabot's! They have massive ice cream sundaes that you can easily share with a few people or keep for yourself because it's so delicious! The food is also always delicious - almost diner style food. I have been coming to Cabot's for years and it is the best ice cream in town in my opinion!
I used to like this place, but now I am definitely never going back! Staff was not helpful and customer service was bad.
We all asked for a build-your-own-sundae, but non of us wanted marshmallow or whipped cream. When we got the check they had charged us for something different, so we asked them. They said that it is only a sundae if you get marshmallow and whipped cream on top of the ice cream - no one told us this - so therefore they charged us for a ice cream with one topping, which is more expensive than the build-your-own sundae that we asked for. It was only a dollar or two more a person, but i am so disappointed, they could have said: "Oh we are sorry" and charged us for the sundae that we asked for, but now they have some very disappointed customers who are never going back.
I have had breakfast, lunch and icecream here. Love the frappes! Cash only, so be prepared for that! Cabots has great icecream and i know it because i am never sick afterwards as a result of my dairy sensitive issues. I will only go here! The staff is great and they always brighten my day!
In town for a college visit. Amazing food. Crispy fries, flavorful chili. Thick milkshakes and perfectly melted grilled cheese. Friendly staff. Kid friendly. Don't miss the ice cream.
My favorite spot for waffles and ice cream. Choose Sunday. Also a very tasty tuna salad. Tuna is really very fresh as well as other food. A good spot to spend with kids
Very inexpensive, satisfying, and open late. Cash only though, \plastic isn't going to cut it here. The service staff seems to mostly consist of local high school kids, they're incredibly friendly and attentive to your experience. It's the only restaurant in the area that I think gives a traditional diner experience. The major key though is breakfast all day. Definitely will be back.
Had a lovely lunch here. Old fashioned comfort food and ice cream. Sandwich was huge, brought half home. Service was so so but one of our servers was being trained and we weren't in a hurry. Two thumbs up.
Family owned for generations. Nothing has changed since I was a kid. Ice cream is great. No Sundaes on Mondays....clever but am sad for Cabot lovers. Everyone needs a day off sometime. Their time is Monday s. Well deserved. Great place!
I got a Toffee Coffee Crunch and it was absolutely amazing. I love how it looks so much like an 80 s diner. You even get to see the workers making your ice cream. Definitely recommend
Super cramped. Long wait times and low quality food. Expect to be disturbed while eating, especially in the winter where people have jackets. The restaurant is in dire need of an update. Everything is old and does not look sanitary. Muffins are just left out uncovered. The bathrooms are around the restaurant and up 2 flights of stairs. Definitely not a handicap friendly environment. The food is poor in terms of taste and quality. Low quality ingredients and it shows. The ice cream is probably the best attraction. However, it pales in comparison to a Ben and Jerry's or a Baskin Robbins. Everyone and anyone should consider a IHOP instead.
I'm a dad... Kids would have aimed for 4 or maybe 5 stars. Blueberry pancakes I ordered were way below quality standards. Service adequate but not comforting. Mom ordered a salad and in hindsight I should have also. Ice cream made the trip end on a sweet note but Cabot's is better in fantasy than it is in reality.
