Great for kids. A little expensive, but mostly with it.
Great for kids. A little expensive, but mostly with it.
Stayed here two different times. Always felt welcome.
Great campground, accessible, clean, quiet and convenient.
Very disappointed, no TV reception at all, our water didn't work, so we had to piggyback off the neighbors, electric kept tripping, and the freeway was about 100 feet from the back of the RV. Staff was pleasant though. Wouldn't recommend this for place. Sorry!
Visited July 2020. Nice lake water park/beach but location is a issue. Visible from i65 and very well heard. Water activities are good but really shouldnt be a extra on top of the daily rate. Some of the sites are strange layout too. Its ok, wont return though
Nice sized campground with full pull through sites and backings. Staff was friendly and helpful, had a good experience there.
Quaint place. Served its purpose for a single night, but with the interstate right beside the camp it was a bit loud at night.
We went there for the advertised biggest slide in the world only to realize that it's only on the weekends. There were 10 horseshoe pits but apparently you cannot rent out horseshoes unless it's a holiday. You have to pay $10 per person every single day you stay there to use the beach and other things that should be included in your stay. Boat rentals are a reasonable price but I also think they should be included in the overpriced stay. It is very clean and the lake is very clear with great fishing. Overall I would stay there again if they lower their prices or include something like the boat rentals or the day pass into your stay.
They false advertise, and told me out of their own mouths, that they are only in business to make money! I will never recommend, or go back here! I had to give them a star just to post this!
Pros: Beautiful lake with lots of nice mowed lawn. Flat level spots for campers.
Cons: too close to Highway very loud. Bathrooms are very far away for half of the park. There should be a second bathroom on the other side of the lake. They have a laundry and an RV supply store but no detergent for sale. Store is supposed to open at 10 AM but they arrive at 10:20 AM with a line of people waiting to get in and buy things.
We stayed in the deluxe cabin and had a wonderful time. Cabins are clean and there is enough room for 6-8 people, they have a nicely stocked kitchen with toaster, microwave, coffee maker, dishes, silverware and cooking utensils for cooking and grill. Especially enjoyed gas grill. Just need to bring griddle for breakfast. The beach was nice and water clear, nice clean washrooms/showers and office/store - employees are very nice and helpful. Looking forward to staying again.
I needed a place to stop and trouble shoot a house battery issue, I just need to plug in to jumpstart my genset. I was charged a full days fee. My generator started after 10 mins of being plugged in. I bought new batteries later in my trip. It would be nice if they thought of future customers.
Real friendly staff great campsites good fishing best place I've ever camped
Go there every year. My kids love it and so do we very friendly people. Yes the interstate is right next to it. But you cant tell after a day of playing with the kids.
Only here for overnight but easy access from the highway. We needed a pull through & this was the only park that had one in the area. Very cute, clean & nice to change us from a muddy site to another one. We would definitely stay here again.
This campground was nice and clean, except for the dust from the roads when people drove too fast. Yes there is road noise but you're right off I-65 so that is a given. The biggest complaint I had was there was a group of about 5 families camping together - 1 was to our right and the rest to the left of us and we were along the lake. The one family kept walking thru our campsite to get with the larger group - evidently they couldn't use the road but thought it was easier just to cut thru our site....I would never think about doing that to someone else! I felt that we had to "share" our site with them and the group tramping thru our site - I made several remarks to no avail. Other than the rude inconsiderate no manner neighbors we had a wonderful time and would more than likely be back.
I don't camp there because I am local But this place is not handicap friendly
You go out there for special event like a live band and they make you park what seems like 10 miles away from the stage.
Overnight stay, nice Campground lots of things for the kids to do.
Super clean lake, friendly staff, parking for RV, dog are welcome too. Overall good experience
We stayed over Halloween and had a great time. The park is small and near the highway so like other reviewers mentioned its loud but It didn't bother us. Workers were very helpful and friendly. They seem to have alot for kids to do which is nice. The lake is very small. Other families in the park are nice but I noticed its clicky. We kept to ourselves. It was great for a short staycation but after 3 days we were ready to roll out. We ended up leaving a day early. I'd say we would go back for a quick weekend getaway in the summer. More to do around that time.
Well I guess we will not be camping there ever. More bad than good reviews
I stayed here for work, roughly A little over a month, this is by far the best campground I have ever stayed at. The service was top notch and the owners and employees were always friendly. My kids and family would visit me on the weekends here and the kiddos absolutely loved the water toys, canoes, paddle boats, and bumper boats. I will definitely be back for a vacation next time, instead of for work.
Over priced trap. Unorganized, and unprofessional. Once they get you in, they start nickel and diming you and any guest you may want to come visit while you camp there. We will never recommend this place to anyone. The grounds also are filled with safety concerns like broken playground equipment with rusty edges, or a old concrete wall with rusty nails hanging out of it. Don't expect a good walking "trail". The only thing that came close was a grass lot next to a warehouse... Stay away from this "campground" by the interstate. Not worth your money.
Also, your replies to all of the reviews that are in any way negative towards your park seem to have a snarky undertone. Not surprised, because that's the same feeling we got the whole stay there.
2 months ago you mentioned fixing the broken playground equipment. Glad to see that hasn't been addressed
Highly recommend for a family getaway! Lots to do for the kids and the cabins are beautiful and very comfortable!!!
Camped in our RV for one night. Way too expensive for the so-so amenities for my family (two small kids.) Roads aren t paved, water hook up was in a weird spot, sounds of the highway all night and day, office wasn t open in time the next morning, no near-by bathhouses. Charged us a $25 cancellation fee when we had some mechanical problems and we were only there for 17 hours. Our total was $70 for a bad night s sleep and a broken playground. Might be worth the price for just a day trip to play on the equipment. Not going to camp there again.
I truly love this campground, it has an amazing slide and a trampoline that's in the water there are also objects for younger children to play on like smaller slides. Adults can also relax cause they have a beach to sit on. Overall I definitely recommend this campground.
The facilities were fair, very dusty though. There was also a lot of noise from the semis exiting the interstate right next to the campsites. The kids had a great time using the water equipment, but they charge high fees for about everything. The worst part of the trip, however, was that there were family members of the owners working there, and they are very rude and arrogant. They make sure they tell you, several times, that it is "their" facility apparently forgetting that the campers are the ones who pay for "their" facility. We are local residents who have NEVER had a problem with any other campground, but we have never experienced this type of rudeness or the attitude that they were doing us a favor by letting us camp there. We will never return because of that attitude. I am not used to people in the service industry treating people like that, and I will certainly not pay them to do it. And we did bring the attitude to their attention, in their office, and got no response or remedy.
I have been camping for over 40 years. We stayed here over the July 4th weekend. Absolutely the worst camping we have Ever had. First they couldn't find our reservation. It was a family vacation with 3 other campers. They got our money in January. Found 4 spots but not together. Dusty roads. Noisy from being next to major highway. The woman that runs it was very rude. They try to get every penny they could for everything. Nothing for kids that other campgrounds don't have. Except they charge you for everything. Read other reviews. Go down the road another 20 miles for much better camping. Oh, the grass was really tall too. Form your own opinions when you talk to the rude woman that runs it.
This campground goes up ever year....last year 38.00 ...this year 44.00....remember a few years back was was 24.00....been going here for 12 years....now with the price so high we won't go here 3 Times a year like we have in the past....honestly the motel is cheaper a night then the campground that is nearby....this place is right off the freeway and can be loud....the owner can be hard to deal with especially if you get on her bad side....a lot of rules here....they even have a kid guarding the gate at the entrance to make sure visitors don't get in kind of like a prison camp
...visitors have to pay like 8.00 a day....Not worth it....was our favorite place to go but with the huge price tag a night...not anymore...we can go elsewhere for 30.00 a night....owner is trying to turn this place into a amusement park...you have to buy expensive wrist bands for your kids for your stay in addition to your expensive campground fee....sorry to say caboose lake is too expensive and not worth the money!!!
Friendly staff always catch at least one and close to indianapolis
Wifi not too great. Put up Martin birdhouses help mosquito down.
Positive: easy on and off the highway. Pull through site with full hookups were nice.
If you are looking for peace and quiet, this is not the place - there is constant highway noise. There is one bathhouse on the opposite side of lake. Low water pressure and the roads in and out have lots of pot holes, we bottomed out on the camper even. Price is higher than most.
I m sure it s a really beautiful place with the lake and all.
Very noisy. They are right on I-65. Other than that, a nice campground.
What an attractive and well maintained camp. They got everything for everybody here. Fishing, boating, camping, beach and more!
If you are looking for a destination to spend your summer vacation in Indiana or in the Midwest, for that matter, you should consider Caboose Lake Campground near Remington. The campground and the area will appeal to most everyone.
We stayed midweek in the deluxe cabin. The cabin itself was charming, well thought out and well worth the cost. The sunset view over the lake from our covered porch was lovely. Then, just after dusk the fireflies appear. It made us all think of how seldom we saw fireflies, but this tiny light show was every evening like clockwork! Making s mores on the campfire is a delicious way to enjoy the magical scenery even more.
The man-made lake has all the amenities you can think of for someone who wants to be in or on the clear, refreshing water a giant hippo slide, rafts, bumper boats, paddle boats, to name a few. There is a nice sand beach and even more games/activities near the beach.
The considerate staff also offer their patrons classes like Yoga on the dock and Paint and Sip classes. The campground office has a nice little store with a variety of items that would come in handy or suit your fancy. They were just starting a soft serve ice cream shop after we left.
We came from out of state to visit this area and would come back again to get to all the places we couldn t fit in our schedule. This is a wonderful area for antique and boutique shopping. There are at least 2 wineries that offer free tastings within a short drive from Caboose Lake Campground.
There are nearby state parks and historical treasures that should not be overlooked. We ate all of our meals at great restaurants, even though we had a full kitchen in the cabin. (We were taking a break from cooking.)
It s the owners and staff of Caboose Lake Campground that deserve the credit for thinking of everything to make this place quite a gem; much, much more than the usual campground experience. It is obvious they work very hard to please their customers.
We were there after Labor Day, With that said, the traffic noise we read about didn't bother us,
Convenient location, friendly employees, well maintained, clean bath house, GREAT WiFi service & fishing was good. It's a catch & release, but that's usually what we do.
Basically a nice place to stay & we will be going back.
It's family friendly & conveniently located. Our kids loved the bumper boats, water balloon wars, basketball trampoline, pedal boats, water mat & water trampoline. Great weekend!
My husband and I picked this location because of the Caboose advertised. I looked at the website, and it looked really fun! We booked the "rustic cabin." I had some trouble booking. On the website, your choices for cabins are literally "deluxe cabin" and "rustic cabin," but the woman on the phone didn't know what the rustic cabin was. She kept asking if I wanted the small one, but since I'd never been there (or anywhere in southern Indiana), I had no idea, so that was a bit awkward.
Later, I saw there was a virtual tour on the website, so I clicked that. I was surprised to learn the campground hugs the freeway. This is totally my fault, as I didn't look at a map when I booked, just the pictures on the site, which don't show the freeway. The noise is incredible. My husband and I kept yelling "huh??" at each other because it is difficult to hear. The cabin itself was fine, and there is a bathroom right next to it (not just a port-a-potty, but one that flushes).
The showers were nice, and we tended to go late at night so that we didn't go to bed with beach water or campfire smoke on us. We stayed at the campground Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, so we just drove over to the showers (it's half a mile from the cabin) and parked in an empty camping spot. I'm not sure what it would be like on a weekend.
When we got to the campground, we saw a sign that said "Wood $5 a bundle, free delivery." I asked the girl at the counter when it would be delivered. The owner was standing right there. The girl said that they weren't going to deliver any wood that day (we got there on a Sunday) because they were going to clean campsites for the upcoming week. I wish the employees had a bit more of a can-do attitude. They rode golf carts all over the campsite that afternoon to pick up and could have easily stopped by our site with wood and made us very happy.
The beach is nice. On the first day I wore water shoes but the second I didn't because it's sandy. It wasn't worth it to buy the extra wristbands, though. The girl at the counter only gave us one day's wrist band and said we couldn't take them off if was wanted our second day wrist bands (you have to go get a new wrist band from the office each day, even if you buy the 2 days for $20 pass). I asked if we had to sleep and shower with them on, and she said yes. I think the employees of this campground are more on the defensive, whereas being on the "yes, I can help" side makes people happier. I used to work at a campground and know it can be tough (people are grumpy about everything), but customer service often involves being on the side of helping while following the rules, or going a little bit beyond what's expected.
Camped before the season . We called about availability and were told I m away from the computer but will call you back . That didn t happen. I had to call back 4 hours later. We never saw a staff member, the office is a badly maintained trailer (on the outside - never saw the inside) and the noise from I-65 is very, very loud. We asked for a late check-out due to attending a family funeral - but instead - we were charged an additional half day fee. We were camped there for less than 18 hours AND the only temp campers. The permanent campsites were unsightly. Positives - level site and decent roads. However - will not return nor recommend.
Nice campground, pulled in after hours, nice pull thru sights.Suited our needs nicely.Road noise is loud but slept good
I have been to Caboose Lake a handful of times the past few years. I agree that the prices are somewhat high but they are not out of the range of other private campgrounds. The staff has allows been polite whenever I have any dealings with them. My favorite part is being able to have a space right on the water front. It is really relaxing to be able to wake up in the morning and walk out of my camper into a waiting chair at the edge of the lake. If people have problems with the owners, maybe they need to take a step back and realize that the owners need to look out for the rights of all campers, not just theirs. If people complain about the noise from I 65, why are they staying at a campground located by highway? If you don't like how the campground is being run, put up your own money, buy a campground and run it the way that you think is best.
Busted friends. Nice campground & clean. Seems to offer most of your camping desires.
We loved it here. The lake was great for swimming, the deluxe cabin was such a cute design. Highly recommended!
Beautiful little lake. We had a nice site on the lake. Place to dock any floatables. Prices comparable to any campground. WiFi was only disappointment. VERY weak signal. Tons of things for kids to do. Rentable lake equipment and golf carts. Enjoyed 2 days there.
I have spent time in many campgrounds but this one is by far the noisiest ever. They should turn it into a day park. When you are less than 50 yards from I-65 in a pull thru and your bedroom faces the interstate with an off ramp within a quarter mile your odds of sleeping are nill
Our first time here and we loved it!! We are already planning our next visit. Our children are 8 and 9 they were entertained the whole time! The two ladies I met when we checked in were very nice and friendly to us too.
Went here as a child a lot in the cabins. Called back as an adult to ask about full time RV/camping spaces and apparently they don t allow older models. Their loss beacause we had planned to prepay for an entire camping season.
Fun place to camp they have allot of extras and activities for the whole family
Great place to camp! Great folks run the campground.
We have been visitors at this Campground every year for at least the last 5 years and most years we come here twice. We have a favorite campsite that whenever we call it always seems to be available. We have a disabled daughter proximity to the restroom and our campsite is very good. We have a golf cart for our daughter and I have never had a problem with that as long as it is insured and in good working order. The lake it is not the biggest but we always have a good time. For the bigger toys trampoline other climbing things you do need to pay a little extra for a wristband. The last time we came up we had adjacent camping site for our son his, wife and our granddaughter. They have a Halloween special every year and we have tried to make it for most years, if you plan on doing the Halloween thing make your reservations early cuz they fill up fast. Overall is a very clean Campground, nice size camping spots and most sites are lake side sites. The fact that we come back every year if not two times a year speaks loudly of our love for this Campground. Give it a try you will be impressed.
The lake was pretty. It's right on the side of the highway, so it was very noisy. The advertised wifi wouldn't let me stream anything, so that was disappointing. The staff was friendly though. It seemed that they had a lot of activities which would be a bonus and pretty fun. We probably will not return, not quite as peaceful as I would have liked.
My family. Camped there. Couple different times. Over. 2 yrs. Staff is nice, IF YOUR NICE TO THEM! Haven't been there for couple yrs now, Did not know. Prices were raised, That's. 1. Positive. I thought. Was great, prices. (To camp). We're very reasonable... I. DO THINK especially, if your camping. For an extended period of time, with them, there shld b a discounted rate, or package price for bracelets.. Especially. When or. If. Your a family with. More then 1or2. Kids. I myself have grown kids w/grand babies, Thank Goodness the kids. Only came 1 time, NO PACKAGE PRICING OR BUNDLING. (DISCOUNTS)... WE. HAD NOT RETURNED, BECAUSE FRIENDS/FAMILY, THAT WERE ALSO CAMPING with us. (They had. & PD for their own. Campsite!!!! Put A TENT. (SMALL TENT) UP ON THEIR SITE....(NOT ENCROACHING). ONTO NEX SITE, AT ALL...was within their site measurements, & management came. Said they had to pay for xtra campsite, or take TENT down... THAT. I THOUGHT. WAS RIDICULOUS...WASNT JUST THAT, BUT THIS FAM MEMBER. IM SPEAKING OF. HAD (NOT) JUST. PURCHASED. THEIR CAMPSITE, BUT HAD ALSO RENTED 1 OF THE CAMPGROUNDS RENTAL CAMPERS, FOR HER DAUGHTER +FAM....SAME TIME...SO lotsa $$ outta pocket. To have a family get together, & EVERYTHING COSTS XTRA... A TENT ON YOUR ALREADY PD. FOR CAMPSITE???? SO. GUESS. YES....IT SEEMS TO BE. ALLL ABOUT. HOW MUCH $$$$$$..Do you have, To have a family camp out...
Just got home from a great weekend camping at Caboose Lake. Minus a little hiccup losing power for about an hour, it was the perfect weekend. The kids had a blast playing in the sand and fishing right off the back of our camp site into the lake. Looking forward to visiting again!
I have to say, this place is remarkable. Remington is a small town and fortunate to have this business as part of their community. This is one of the most beautiful, well maintained campgrounds I've seen. They offer so much for the family. Swimming, paddle boats, bumper boats, fishing, slides, water wars. You can't get bored here!
A little pricey, but lots to do here. We will be back
Caboose Lake Campground is a neat little place with lots of activities for the kids and a nice swimming area the restroom is kind of distant for some of the campers on the west side other than that it's a nice little Campground that I could recommend
Staff friendly and helpful, store well stocked, grounds well maintained, would be a great campground if placed anywhere else, but unforunetly it is within spitting distance of a busy highway. The noise is constant day and night, then there's the nearby railroad. If you're not sensitive to sound it might be ok but to those that are its torture. Only other draw back is one restroom/shower for a campground that's a half mile long.
I definitely won't be back. Within the first 5 minues of arriving i was stopped by what I can only assume was a staff member who never actually identified herself) was rude, hateful and confrontational. Definitely not worth the money or the hassle for as little as they offer. Save your money and go to a state park!
Our family is having a blast here. Chris, Jessie, Doug, and all the workers are just wonderful. Great place to stay.
The RV park is neat, well maintained, and conveniently located off of I-65. The waterfront site we had was a pleasant surprise as it gave us a cool breeze most of the day and we enjoyed the nice shade tree, but they were angled in a very peculiar manner. The pull through sites are good for overnight stops and give ample room. The down side is that during the summer months they appear to charge you for all the water activities that are available. You are not required to pay for these activities, but must do so to use them. Also, DO NOT bring your own firewood. We use a propane firepit anyway, but they are very strict about the firewood policy. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay.
I will say that the Interstate noise is very noticeable so if this is an issue for you, just be aware in advance. This isn't an issue for us, but I did want to mention it.
The place was great. My family as well as my parents and sisters family all camped here from the 17Aug18 to 20Aug18 and loved it. We had 3 campsites in B section and 4 kids that range from 9 to 5, and the kids had a blast. They kept talking about the hippo slide and blob. The place is very clean and well kept and the staff was very friendly. I took out the fishing boat and after about an hour and 45 minutes the battery died, they apologized and gave me a credit and allowed me to take the boat again the next day at no charge. I appreciate what they did and it allowed me to catch some nice fish too. They truly went above and beyond to make your stay great. Even the seasonal campers are nice, and one of them even loaned me his battery for his boat to get back to the dock when mine died. 1st rate seasonal campers and the owners are fantastic, kids can't wait to go back. Only drawback was it was a little noisy since you are right off the expressway but i knew that coming thhere and it wasn't a huge deal for me. Highly recommend this place. Nice place to get away for the weekend and will be back.
If it weren't right on the interstate with all of the associated noise it would have been 5 stars. Nice, clean, friendly staff and fellow campers.
Clean, friendly staff, and my doggie is just going to love the lake!
I really love this campground because it is located right by the exit for I-65. The laundry facilities are very nice and the staff is really friendly. The sites are very level and have easy access to the power and sewer hookups. The location is nice for us it is on the HWY and is a little bit south of the huge population center of NW Indiana. I noticed several people fishing in the large lake. I am a price sensitive camper and I like the price which was about 20 bucks for us midweek with a good sams discount. I noticed they have RV rentals and even a caboose to rent too! I would recommend this campground to families and travelers!
Amazing place to stay or just go for the day to play. A lot of fun!! Great and polite staff too! We will definitely be returning!
I like Caboose for what they have to offer and have went for a few years now. I unfortunately and regretfully have to give a bad review for the very poor compation that they have. We had planned and reserved a site for this weekend and then received news that my grandmother passed and services are this weekend. I called to request a refund but i was told that they only give refunds if you cancel 10 days in advance. How does one predict when death happens. I feel strongly that they only care about getting paid in whatever way they can. I don't plan to give them my hard earned money any more. If they can't give me a refund under these circumstances they don't deserve my money.
Small but nice campground. There restrooms are always clean when we go. Check in is easy, even if after hours. There is a time zone change if coming from the Chicago area & suburbs. 1 hour. They have great water activity for all ages. Bumper boats, canoeing, & paddle boats. Also on land water slides, Sand volleyball, playground, go cart rental & more. Great place for RV, tents, cabins and now the have yurts. We normally set up a tent. But this last time we rented a yurt. It was spacious & nice and right off the water. Will rent it again. Our last visit there was some younger helpers that would look at us funny the entire time & never speak. Didn't see them the year before. Mostly everyone is friendly there. We try not to let them effect our beautiful relaxing trip. If they are there this year We my not go again. There are so many wonderful campgrounds around.
Very nice campground, very pleasant staff, we would definitely stay here again if the noise from the trucks running up the ramp was not so loud. They have internet, but it was pretty spotty.
Sorry but too much truck noise all night long. Just spent one night, looked to be a nice place though. Would I return ? No !
