Stay far away from this hospital it's absolutely disgusting. I think it's an embarrassment the way it is ran and the way they treat patients having heart issues I was forced to wait In the waiting room for 9 hours in what had resulted me being sent home and told to get some rest, all the staff are rude they lack to give a acceptable reason as to why you are waiting and refuse to co-operate with you whilst asking questions within your right I wouldn't recommend ANY one to go to this hospital if you require health care.

It was mainly on arrival the receptionist saw looked up and saw me then carried on doing work on the computer, didn t say I ll be with shortly I waited 15 minutes and I had to ask if I was at the wrong window she then said give me 2 minutes I m busy, shocking! The girl after who looked very ill waited even longer
MAIN A&E STAFF ARE FANTASTIC CONSIDERING THE STRAIN THEY ARE UNDER AND LACK OF STAFF. MY ONLY CONPLAINT IS THAT ONE OR TWO OF THERE ORTHOPAEDIC SURGEIONS ARE VERY RUDE AND DON'T LISTEN. DUE TO THIS AFTER A SURGREY THAT DID'NT WORK I ASKED MY DR TO SEND ME ELSE WHERE FOR SECOND OPINION. WHERE I GOT RESULT.
The CEO is a sell out and wont stand up for the needs of the patient. He doesnt care. He wont tell NHS England the problems faced by the Trust and that their targets are not likely to help anyone including the trust and the future of this country. This creates a toxic work enviroment for staff.
Don't bother with A&E, once Triage have seen you they will forget you. If you are diabetic make sure you take a packed lunch as you will get nothing from the staff. Would praise the staff but didn't see anyone for over 3 hours, or if I did they were drinking their coffee.
I've have prostate cancer for several years now.(its returned four times) .Been in the oncology department more time than I can remember . And along with xrays ct scans every one have all ways been fantastic I'd especially like to thank .Professor Baul and the specialist nurses there .
Had an accident and was sent to this hospital, excellent care and facilities on hand, the staff were really nice and caring and im happy to say they did a great job. Five stars
Compared to other hospitals in bristol my experience is that the b r I is a REAL hospitL with hard dedicated workers The problems in waiting for beds is not the fault of the hospital I get fantastic care from b r I
I'm sure that in the main Bristol Royal Infirmary is an excellant Hospital. However, after today's experience there is one area that needs drastic change.
I had an appointment for a CT Scan at 12.15 p.m. My appointment letter stated that I had to be at the Hospital for 11.00 a.m. I duly checked in to the X-Ray Department at 10.55 a.m. And was told where the waiting room was. Two ladies already in the waiting room were getting a bit agitated, as they had been there for quite a while. But one of the staff members explained there had been an emergency. So, I assumed we would be running late. There is a notice on the wall of the waiting room which says that if you're more than 30 minutes late for your appointment then alert the Reception desk.
My appointment was now running 40 minutes late. I asked at Reception if they could find out what was happening, and she phoned through. By now, I had been sitting there for over two hours.
Eventually a nurse came out and asked me to drink a pint of special fluid over the next 45 minutes. Eventually, I was called in for my scan which was now nearly two hours behind time, only to be told that Reception hadn't told them that I had arrived in the first place.
Isn't it about time that a Self Check-In system is installed, similar to what is being used in GP's Surgerys? It would be more efficient and free up staff on Reception desks to help those who aren't able to check themselves in.
Not only did it waste a lot of time, but cost more in parking fees.
The admin staff are insanely rude, LITERALLY they will have a chat and giggle for several minutes before speaking to you, then just raise their brows at you...Not what you want in an A&E department. One young girl was arguing over the legitimacy of my symptoms!! It's INSANE. Please reshuffle your admin staff asap
Had a long wait in A and E and even though it was a quiet time, I still waited over 11 hours in (just under 4 to be shown to a bed, to wait another 5 hours till a doctor could see whether I needed intravenous antibiotics). I do not in any way blame the doctors or nurses, they were friendly, apologetic and word hard, they are underfunded and underpaid for the long hours they do.
I was born in the UK but have lived in the USA for about 23 years. For most of that time I have sung the praises of the free NHS. But, Oh My God, recent experiences with taking my elderly parents to the BRI have considerably soured my view of the system. The BRI is antiquated, dirty and disorganized. The many ad-hoc additions make it impossible to find your way around and this is compounded by inaccurate or missing way finding signs. Even the staff do not know their way around (it happened just today). Some of the wards cannot have been decorated in 50 years and are immensely depressing. Yes, the staff is great but they are working in a completely dysfunctional system. Twice I have waited hours and even days before a senior doctor can be found to discharge a patient. They will leave a patient occupying a bed overnight rather than find a doctor to release them how can this be efficient use of space and resources? I do not buy the I am sorry the Dr. is in surgery , treating an urgent case etc. etc., blackmail type of response. For God s sake this is a hospital, of course there are emergencies going on all the time. An efficient and effective organization plans for these things and sets up robust procedures and protocols that can withstand these everyday challenges. I just spent 9 hours at the BRI for my Fathers Hernia to be checked out, half that time was just waiting for the senior Doctor to come and sign off on his release (the Dr. was in surgery surprise, surprise). In the USA this would have taken 2-3 hours and they would have seen it as a cost cutting measure to deal with the situation promptly and effectively. Yes, we would have paid for it with our insurance but don t forget that people in the UK pay also.
