I went there on a hot day in the 90s and it was nice and cool and air condition they had a ballroom dance class in the activity room and it was pretty cool it was swing and Waltz class and I learned alot. They have a nice pool and I took a soak in the hot tub as well since I'm from Shelton I was delighted to hear that they're going to build at brand new YMCA at Shelton it'll take a couple of years to build though

Warning: if you want to get your $1,000 smart phone ripped off then use one of their lockers without checking to be sure that it actually latches at the top. I've talked to everyone there including emailing the CEO and while they've said they would lock out the affected lockers, they've done nothing.

I'd love to give them a much higher score but I can't:

Playcare hours are limited during the week and non-existent on Sundays.. we are a busy family and not having the option to get a workout in on Sunday is almost a deal breaker.

The activity pool hours are very limited.

There is only one family changing room.

The staff is a mixed bag. Some know what customer service is about, others couldn't care less. Case in point, I discovered a locker that was broken and easily opened even when locked, in a way that a patron would likely not notice. I informed the front desk twice and it wasn't dealt with. When I informed the manager on duty she treated me like I'd just turned myself in for murdering someone. She informed me that she'd have a lock put on the locker at close of business. I told her that the locker was not in use and she ignored me, even though there were signs posted in the locker room that recent thefts had occurred. This is why I'm scoring a 2 out of 5. Why should a patron lose their phone and wallet due to management carelessness. Once I see signs of improvement I'll gladly raise their score. Excellence in customer service is easy when people care enough to do their job and not play on the computer all day.

Other than that it's a great place to give your business too, great vibe, great people, great facility, great parking.

Great Experience. Our son has taken swim lessons for a couple months now and we are so pleased wit the level of care from his teachers. I would highly recommend this class especially for young children.

I only normally go for the pool, because their pool is comfortable and all people are polite. Nobody will judge you, and the locker rooms are very nice. Everywhere is full of pleasant chatter.

This is a very busy facilty that is open weekdays 5:30am - 9pm. The parking lot is usually full making street side parking necessary. It has pools, basketball court, large and small group exercise rooms, a climbing wall, and a large workout room with free weights and resistance machines. For cardio the workout room also has (about) 15 treadmills, 15 ellipticals, various stationary bikes, and two rowers. Child care is available. They do not have a sauna, racquet ball, or massage. The folks who go here are mostly families with kids and retirees. The restrooms are usually fairly clean.

Took the kid for swimming lessons and had a positive experience. The instructors were very sensitive to anxieties and very patient with the wild ones. You don t have to be a member to sign up for swimming lessons year round

I take my daughter here a lot but unfortunately every time I go the off balance of the chlorine in this pool really hurts my eyes they are putting way to much in and it's throwing off the ph I told the front desk and I know I'm not the only one that complains about it because I was talking to a member when I was in the pool one day and she said she was considering leaving due to the fact that every time she comes the pool burns her eyes and she has never had this problem in another pool before I really wish the owners would consider changing companies I know a lot of people in the industry of commercial pools and I know that something is not right I really hope that whom ever is running the establishment will take some of my advice considering how many one stars I see and the fact that the number one review problem I hear is the maintenance and I'm hearing it from the consumers as well when I'm using the facilities. the front desk how ever is very nice and does there job

My 9-yr old daughter takes swimming classes here. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The facility has many many activities for children and adults. It's a very clean and modern facility. The parking lot gets over crowded sometimes. Some areas of the parking areas need serious repairs. The parking areas need to be expanded to accommodate all the visitors during the peak hours. I think they put too many kids per group for swimming classes. They are currently putting 6 kids in each group with 1 trainer. I think 4 kids per trainer would benefit the kids much better!

Great swim teachers and lessons. Building and facility make you feel like you've gone back in time to 1990's! Almost impossible to ever swim laps, unless you go middle of the work day or after 7pm.

love it

I called MONTHS in advance to have my daughter do volunteer hours for her high school graduation requirement. I left several messages for the person in charge of volunteers (can't remember her name). I filled out the paperwork and dropped it off. Was told I'd get a call soon. HA! I made several follow up calls to try and get this scheduled but could never actually speak to the person in charge nor did she ever return any of my messages.

Staff is good, facility is ok and classes can be crowded (even during unpopular hours). I was harassed in the locker room but an unpleasant older client who verbally scolded me and then rudely turned away while refusing to hear my perspective. He then left and complained about me to the staff. Not the fault of ymca but it made for an unwelcoming visit. I will try to keep my workouts at only Fort Lewis, where ironically, people treat each other with dignity and respect. Parking could be better.

Hands down the worst gym I have ever been to. Staff is rude. Pool is constantly closed without notification. The teenage jerks they have as lifeguards are obviously on some kind of pathetic power trip. One in particular has made my 7 year old cry TWICE. Membership cancelled. Hire some actual adults.

LP Brown Y-Care is well below average, again this year. I registered my son on a weekend and we chose to do drop in. It says that there is space available for all options including the drop in option. You pay the $50 to register and you have to wait three business days before the child can attend, so I do that. I go to bring my son Thursday morning and I m told that there is no space available (rudely), and that I have to call 24 Hours in advance for them to let me know the morning of, if there s space for that morning. What?! So you re telling me that when you say you re full at 6am I m suppose to find another option in the next hour!? That blows my mind. On top of it the lady that runs the care has a bad attitude and never knows the answer to anything. I told her the website where I registered him said there s space. Her response, I don t know cause we re over full. Oh and he s not even in the system. Bottom line, I have had nothing but problems with LP Brown and I never had any issues with Michael T. Simmons. If you can find another school or different care, I would.

Visited the YMCA after my back injury as part of my physical therapy routine. They said they offered more classes and therapists that I sadly did not require at the time. They were helpful and they had all the equipment that I required to get better. Thank you.

We held my daughter's birthday party at this Y. It's one of the least expensive places to have a kids'party and has plenty of fun activities to keep kids busy. The staff on duty were friendly and as helpful as they could be, considering they had no idea we were coming. After multiple communications in person, by phone and email, the person who made the reservations for us hadn't told the weekend staff anything about our party. The staff made the best of it and made sure we had what we needed. If you don't need a perfectly clean, new and fancy party room (and for young children, why would you?), than this could be the answer to hosting your child's party on a budget.

LOCKER ROOMS: This is quite a large and busy faci...

LOCKER ROOMS: This is quite a large and busy facility, and there is ONE "Family" locker room (as in private locker room.) ONE. And, this is totally confusing, as the entire women's locker room seems to be a "family" locker room! It's an absolute nightmare! My first time in there involved kids running wild everywhere... and an oblivious mom right by me with 3 young kids, one of which was a little boy, picking his nose and staring at me the whole time I changed.... NO THANKS! Since then, I am not shy about taking the ONE "family" room, for some peace and privacy.
This facility really should have several private rooms! There are many reasons that some of us don't want to change in front of others, particularly little kids!
There should also be a designated area in the women's locker room specifically for women with kids, so that others who don't mind a typical locker room scene can at least use it without little eyes peering and total chaos. I cannot think of one single reason that young children in an ADULT locker room would be acceptable.
The other day I was waiting for the one "family" room to come available. The "occupied" sign was on the door, and I could hear the shower running full blast. After about 10 minutes (thinking there might be a mom with a couple kids in there,) I only heard the constant water flow but no other noises, so I got suspicious and knocked. Knocked several times, and finally slowly opened the door, saying "Hello?" NO ONE WAS IN THERE, and THE SHOWER WAS RUNNING HOT WATER, FULL BLAST! No idea how long this had been happening - there's a great chance that other people waited and gave up - it could have been an hour or more! So, I went to report this at the main desk, and the (nice but disinterested) young man on duty was unable to even take a complaint, took no notes, couldn't tell me who to talk to and said that there was no manager on duty. Pffft.
This issue really is off-putting enough to cancel my membership. I'm only going for the pool, which seems fine (although strong chlorine - good for killing all the germs though.) I don't know where else to go for water fitness classes, and am investigating what options there are locally.

Otherwise, the location of the facility is good, and the parking seems safe. The people who work there seem really nice. I did get a tour of the whole facility, and it looked nice and well maintained. The locker room situation is the only serious drawback that I can think of.

Great place to workout, swim or take a class. Employees are always friendly, helpful and kind. Couldn't ask for a better environment, a cleaner facility or a friendlier place to work out.

We love the Y! The only complaint I really have is that it is difficult to park at either location. Downtown only has street parking and Briggs has a parking lot that can't accommodate their needs most times of the day. Clean, friendly staff, and lots to do though!

Frustrating that my wife and I have to pay the same rate as a family of 6... but i guess if you want a gym with a swimming pool... Its hard to find an alternative. Their pool is almost always open for a lap swim... and their equipment is clean and updated.

I really love this place. They makes you feel like you belong, and included all types of people young to old wealthy to the limited income. My only complaint is how they organize the youth sports. You don't know what day is the games or practice s or even where until a week before and it could be too far away, and it's almost impossible to contact the person who sets it all up. However I love this place so much I won't take a star for it eventually everything worked out.

usually staff are very nice, i had serval bad experiences with some of the staff though so that s why i took a star away. both pools are great to swim in it just depends on what type of swimming you want to do.

This is a G R E A T facility! Very community oriented and they really do want the best, for you. The front desk staff is very knowledgeable and caring. I highly recommend a tour for everyone and let them know your abilities before you get started. There are so many programs it may be hard to narrow down a decision as to where to start first. I highly believe everyone counts and everyone matters and success leaves clues (that can be found at Briggs YMCA). Success starts with being willing to tip over the first domino, so just S T A R T !

They were rude to me when I asked questions about their Y-Care they really knew nothing about their Y-Care services!! Also the woman was more interested in talking about her dating life and flirting with a male customer than helping anyone else.

the workout room is great and almost always not crowded, except the treadmills. There are usually only 1 or 2 slots open on those during peak hours. it is clean with a friendly staff. the pool is good but they dont have a sauna, only a hot tub.

Had so much fun there with my 3 yr old Granddaughter swimming. Then put her in the activity room while I went into exercise for a bit. Checked out the Cross Country session and some other things. Noticed the elevator to the next floor. The floors in the area before the women's area was being scrubbed by a sweet lady as we went into swim and then when we were done she was cleaning the floors in the shower area. So glad to see they take having a clean facility seriously. They had high on the wall warm air blowers which made it easy to dry our hair. I signed up for a free accessment of my exercising needs. Gonna enjoy going to the Y.

We are so excited about this place. Plan on taking the whole family here often. They have a pool, weight room, play area, all kinds of programs and activities for the kids in the summer, classes for adults, and I am stoked!

I took a Zumba Instructor Training at this facility, and I like this YMCA location. The parking is good, the neighborhood is nice & clean. Plus it's about 5-10 minutes away from downtown Olympia.

This place is a blessings for families. I home schooled my son when he was younger and their home school program, which included swimming and exercise was a great addition for our other home school activities. My son also took swimming lessons there and loved it.

Love this "Y". I've not had a bad experience at any "Y". This one keeps the dream alive!
I love the six lane pool worth its crystal clear water. Machines seem well kept.
Clean place, great people.
