Is too many beer choices a bad thing?!? Food and beverages were outstanding.
Is too many beer choices a bad thing?!? Food and beverages were outstanding.
They like to say it's a "little" bit of Belgium in the heart of Madison but their little means a lot. The choices of beers, both bottled and tapped, can inspire several minutes of reading the menu then a brief panic when asked what you would like to try (first).
Always changing and with a menu full of pub favorites, it will be hard to settle on just one thing to love.
Great food combinations. Haven't been disappointed yet.
Always a new beer to try. Food is tasty. Good beer + frites makes a great happy hour.
Very disappointing and condescending service. Was pressured out at 11:18pm on a Saturday night. Was lectured about how it was a Class B establishment by a bartender and that they can choose when to close despite having 5 paying customers. The bartender mocked my friend's reaction to his explanation. Will not go back.
Our server was great, the food was also good. The cranky old lady that came and took our food and drinks before we were finished with them was the problem. She obviously was trying to rush us out the door even though no one was waiting for a table.
Absolutely my favorite local spot for a great burger - the "V Burger" - and a great menu of beer. Slider nights are one of my favorite. I should be on the menu every night! Service is great, even though they are very busy. The food never disappoints. The frites are exceptional!!
Always enjoy Brasserie V. Sitting at the bar enjoying frites and beer while watching the neighborhood come and go is an excellent evening. The Belgian salad, with bacon and endive, is particularly tasty. Service at the bar is attentive and meals can be eaten there.
This has long been my favorite bar in madison and with the constraints of covid they still deliver amazing food atmosphere and drink.
Huge beer choices. Wine options. Food good. Fun atmosphere. No hard liquor or mixed drinks
Wonderful atmosphere, service and food! Great beer selection as well.
The food and the beer list are very impressive. The atmosphere is great for meeting up with friends or a casual meal. The only downside is that it is almost always busy and waits for tables are common, but that i just consequence of the high quality of the visit.
Brasserie V is a good place to stand outside and conjure up an imaginatively good meal experience in the middle of the night
Had lunch here. Food was tasty and interesting. Good selection of belgian/belgian style beers. Great atmosphere too.
What a great lunch! We ordered the croque monsieur and the moules et frites. The food was delicious and unique. Definitely worth the money for this very positive experience! Also, they have a ridiculously extensive collection of draft beer and bottled beer that must be experienced. Will definitely be back when in the area!
Upscale neighborhood eatery with an excellent beer selection.
Definitely the best beers on campus. Most of them were imported from what I saw, which would explain the high prices. Servers were friendly, available, music wasn't too loud, and I really liked the ambience in general.
I forgot the name but try their house beer!!
The food is unbelievable. They have the largest selection of beers you will find in one place. Always an enjoyable experience.
I attended a work wellness event at the Allen Centennial Gardenns. What a fantastic resource on the UW-Madison campus that is free to everyone who wants to learn more about this garden and plants in general. I have been to this cute garden a hand full of times in the past, but have never taken a formal tour of it. I'm so glad that I took a tour!
Ordered for pickup. After 40 min I got notification that it was ready to pick up. Arrived, called and they said to wait a little. Called three more times and they just said that they were busy. 55 min waiting total.
Too much time for a burger. They don't respect client's time at all.
Worst thing is that after I got home, realized they gave me the wrong order!
No burger on it!
I would not recommend this place for their lack of organization
Famous for the beers, but a great wine list as well! We love coming here for drinks, apps, dinners, and/or dessert. It's my favorite place on my favorite street in Madison.
amazing burger and awesome tap list. They have awesome deals on take out beer. rivaled only by hopcat
Great food, good service, nice atmosphere. Solid place for dinner or drinks
Oh wow! This is amazingly good classic French bistro fare at pretty reasonable prices--$10-12 for a sandwich and chips, in the $20s range for the entrees. They also don't yank up all their prices for evening which is really nice. Our service was very quick and you could easily take a working lunch on a weekday here, within the hour, and get back to work on time. Be sure you get something with cheese in it--they are known for their cheese and it is out of this world good! I am something of an amateur cheese connoisseur and I was very impressed. I have been to France once and this restaurant is actually as good as several places I went to in France which is really hard to find in the states!
Great service, food, beer list, and atmosphere. The record player room is such an awesome gem that makes this one of my favorite bars.
Brasserie V is a local beer and food place. The staff is friendly and efficient. I had the chicken schitzel. It was a large serving and tasty. Unfortunately, the inside of the chicken at the bone did not appear to be cooked through. That is a huge issue with chicken. There was enough fully cooked chicken at the outside, and did I mention it was a large serving? Took the rest home to warm up and cook through later. I have had the burgers and steak frites before and they are fabulous.
Their food is phenomenal. The beer selection is massive and refined.
Great beer selection, frites and food are good. Service is slow at bar
Food took forever and arrived cold. We would have sent it back, but we never saw our server after that.
Good atmosphere and great beer. Food was delicious.
If you're looking for a variety of beers and other drinks then you will love Brasserie V or if you're looking for something great to eat then this is your spot. I love the atmosphere, noise and smells. Tonight it was a wonderful aroma of fresh baked bread, the kitchen is always creating new things.
I love Brasserie V's food and drinks, I really do. But what sinks this place is its lousy service.
First, Brasserie V refuses to take reservations, which was understandable back when it had limited space. After their renovations, the restaurant doubled in size, but still it's first-come, first-serve. Since it's so busy, you're always waiting at least 30 minutes before your service even begins. Sure you can call ahead and ask about the wait time, and once we did -- only to discover once we arrived that the wait time doubled on us. (We went somewhere else that night.)
I was there for a craft beer event recently. The guest brewer was great -- super informative and easy to talk to. The rest of the restaurant staff, by comparison, was frustratingly inattentive. It wasn't too crowded that day, so the place seemed appropriately staffed, especially since the guest brewer was helping with pours. Still, it took far too long to pay for beers, order food, start the flights, etc. Brasserie V sells itself as an upscale tavern, but I get better bar service everywhere I go.
The beer list is unique and one of the best in Madison. The food, although pricey, is surely worth it. But until Brasserie V figures out how to properly manage a room full of patrons, it will always be second-tier. And I won't be back.
Great food and tons of beer selections. Can't wait to visit here again
I love the corner de frites here - and I am French .... also the salads are delicious! And soups! One of my favorite lunch spots in town.
Highest quality beer menu in Madison. Expertly prepared high-end pub food. Great atmosphere. A must for anyone visiting Madison.
A great place. Unique and varied Belgian beer selection, both bottle and draft. Tasty food, too, made with many local ingredients. I had the smoked salmon BLT.
We were looking for a festive place to celebrate a special birthday and catch a 6:30 performance on State Street. This was a perfect choice. Since we were early birds, there was no trouble getting a table for four. It was chilly where we were seated but the host cheerfully responded to our request to turn up the heat and turn off the ceiling fan above us.
The food was fantastic and the beer selection was amazing. The Prices reflected the quality of the food and atmosphere very well. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you are in the area give it a try. Smoked Salmon BLT was a sandwich i would recommend and everyone in the place was ordering the frites (Fries) so they must be good. No one got the fries at my table we all got salads and the side of the day and we were not disappointed.
Great, unique beer selection. The menu is a little small, but everything is delicious
Went in recently to meet friends. Were coerced into getting a table by a pushy hostess. We then ordered several beers and appetizers. Before we could even order dinner, the waitress dropped off our check without asking if we were finished. We weren't, but we paid and went elsewhere to eat dinner and have another beer or two.
Amazing food and a huge beer selection. I'd go back any day of the week :)
Good food. Large beer selection, but no Hamms beer.
Good burgers, good, quick service, and they didn't rush us out or anything (I was there with a friend, and we stayed for a while to chat).
The one and only Belgian inspired pub & restaurant in Madison.
It was great, unique food that you can eat. The duck club is amazing. Cheese board has an excellent selection. Probably the best Ruben we have ever had. Service was attentive good atmosphere, and the desserts amazing. Only small issue, the coffee, nice place would have expected at least press pots. But we will return.
Lovely meal with the family. Our waitress was extremely warm and knowledgeable, and dinner was spectacular! Hats off to Chef Scott for the terrific fare and the special red bean ice cream to cap it off.
My favorite place in Madison. Unparalleled beer selection. Great food options. Friendly, knowledgeable staff
Great spot to try a wide variety of German, Belgian, and other European beers. Excellent fries and service. A tad disappointed the kitchen closed at 10, it was unclear on their website when they would stop serving food. They did accommodate the orders of the part of our party that arrived before 10, but the people who showed up after 10 were out of luck.
This place has been great every time I've gone. Always good cheese boards and choices of drinks. The duck that I had was amazing and the lamb was apparently very good as well. We'll definitely be back.
Try a cheese board and a beer with the best company of your life. Thanks Brasserie V for making the moment amazing.
Food has good flavor, but portion sizes are small and prices are high.
The pork chop dish was decadent. Mindful menu and friendly table service.
Great beer selection with pretty good prices given what you can choose from. I like to get a few of the mini draft pours each time I go and try new ones. The truffle frites are some of the best fries in the area with freshly grated Parmesan on top. Mmmm
The burger I had was just OK. I would have preferred a normal bun to the bread it came on. Friends who ordered mussels appeared to enjoy them. Brasserie V has an extensive list of Belgian beers, but I prefer other beer styles. Most of the beer is expensive, more than $10 and the pours are small. The frites (read: French fries) are excellent, but the truffle frites aren't worth the extra cost.
Favorite place in Madison! Amazing beer and burgers.
Really great atmosphere and food is very tasty. Staff and prices can sometimes border bourgeois.
Great food at reasonable prices...must try the frites!
Good Food and fantastic beer selection, parking is difficult and be ready for a wait
Awesome spot for lunch and a great beer menu for European imports
Always a great time, great beer, great food, great staff. Definitely a must visit on a trip to Madison.
Food is good, but never prepared consistantly. Sent food back, and it came back the same...medium burger...not...
Awesome selection of beers from around the world, with a special focus on Belgian and other European imports. Josh is an amazing and knowledgeable bartender who has never steered us wrong with a recommendation. The food is also good and reasonably priced, especially for lunch. Definitely a go-to spot in the Monroe St. area and one of my favorites in Madison.
Loved it great selection of beer on tap and in cans/bottles. The frites and aoli where super good. Also the summer sale was surprisingly really good.
Excellent! The food was delicious. Went with the steak tartare, which was sweet and savory and as soon as I was polishing off that plate my Steak Frite arrived with an awesome aoli (forgot what it was). As far as drinks, started with the house beer (St. Bernardus Abt 12) finished with the belgian wheat ale (Lefebvre Blanche Des Bruxelles)! Highly recommend, and a great place to bring a date or small group!
Brasserie V has an excellent selection of foreign and domestic beers, especially Belgian styles which I personally love. The frites are amazing.
Lovely atmosphere and good, quality food. The truffle frites are unique excellent. I would venture that perhaps my dish was on the salty side, but I can't complain that much.
This place has an excellent beer selection, some delicious sandwiches, burgers, and salads. Their steak with fries is excellent and comes with a delicious garlic lemon aioli. Full menu service is available at the bar if you need to eat quickly. If you're in a major rush you can also place orders for take out.
Stellar beer selection. Food was delicious. Beer selection is why ill go back
Good selection of beers, would like to have more draft options
Really great selection of beers! Barkeeps were personable and knowledgeable. Will return!
Great food as always, and to cope with Pandemic restrictions, they set up outdoor eating in the alley.
The V burger with frites and garlic aioli, and some St Bernardus. Few things are better than that.
