The food is truly amazing, one of the best restaurants in Victoria. Consequently quite expensive too.
The food is truly amazing, one of the best restaurants in Victoria. Consequently quite expensive too.
The frites which came with the steak was even tastier than the steak itself
Favorite restaurant in Victoria! Get there early because they don't do reservations. Very well priced for the type of food that the dish out. Waitstaff and atmosphere are top notch. You definitely, won't be disappointed.
Disappointed on this visit. I had the duck confit. The piece of duck was delicious but the duck burger beside it had a medicinal taste and I couldn't eat it. I had a bite of my friend's sirloin steak, which was tough. I've only had excellent meals here before so I hope this was a fluke. I usually love this restaurant.
Food it's always fantastic and service is the best in town.
Amazing beef and the best boulevardia I've had in a very long time
Unparalleled in Victoria! The food is sublime. The service is absolutely perfect. The are there if you need them but not in your face. Everyone knows exactly what they are doing in this place. The selection of beer is great.
It's one of those places you just know has a spotless kitchen because this restaurant is obviously the owner's pride and joy.
If you're only in town for one meal then have it here!
(Be there at shortly after 17:00 on the weekends because they only do two sittings and the first one is at 17:30.)
Oysters was geat! Meat was perfect too! Kind of noisy, but worth it, lots of locals.
Delicious food and amazing beer/ wine selections.
Hidden gem of Victoria!
A small place and you might need to wait a while as you can't have a reservation but the food is AMAZING!!!
Our steaks were a little overdone when they arrived at our table. The waitress went above and beyond, getting us not only fresh steaks, but a complementary side salad to enjoy with them. It was absolutely delicious.
Outstanding food and service. Try the parmesean frites for an appetiser that's easy to share.
Omg it's so good. This my sound crazy but they also have the best hamburger in the world.
Consistently good since they opened well over a decade ago. Next best thing to a French brasserie in these parts. If they had Picon on the drink menu I would give 6 stars out of 5
ive been coming hear for many years And has never let me down
Consistently the best overall restaurant experience in Victoria.
* Delicious food - a sort of French cafe meets West Coast mashup -
* A well stocked bar and great beer and wine menu
* Very professional service delivered with a friendly casualness
Outstanding, you won't find better in Victoria, not a fan of the "no reservation" system but the food and service is great!
I suggest this place to people all the time who are looking for the best Victoria has to offer. Exceptional food, wine, service and atmosphere. Have never had a bad experience. After proposing to my now wife we went there for dinner. They gave us complimentary desert and glasses of champagne. Class act every time.
I dont get why this place has good reviews. The food is very mediocre and over priced. I got the sirloin steak and my wife got the trout. My steak was cooked medium rare the way I asked but it was like leather to cut it and really chewy. The trout had a very fishy taste which usually happens when the fish isn't fresh. The fish side was very bland and tastless. A few positives, the staff were friendly and attentive and the cocktails were very good. Unfortunately, we wont be back because of the food which was a shame as i was really looking forward to eating here for a long time.
The restaurant opens at 5:30, but if you want a seat expect to arrive by 5. The food is phenomenal, they really know how to cook a steak, and I've never had better veal chops in my life.
The duck is Divine. The appies very good. The service top notch. Best place to eat in Victoria
Best fine dining restaurant in town. Great atmosphere. Great food. Not pretentious. Good value.
Beautiful starters and an amazing (belgian) beer and (french) wine list. Steak frites were good but cheaper bavette is tastier than ny striploin and the roquefort butter is an overkill of flavour for the nice steak. My parter would have preferred for it to come with some greens or veggies. Still one of best places to eat in Victoria!
Great place but I hate to wait in line , first time in 3 years that there was no line
Great French cuisine. The mussel starters were excellent. Very romantic ambience, would recommend it for a couple s special occasion.
Great ambiance and great food. Great place for a special dinner.
Great Bartender! Great food! Love everything about it
I've enjoyed Brasserie 7 times but feel it's over priced .
Food is always great. Wonderful place for splurging on a fantastic meal. As always, French onion soup does not disappoint.
Everything is great! The service is absolutely outstanding and the food was amazing. Very atmospheric as well. Would go back any time.
Burguer was delicious! Pricey tho! But great staff!
Your best choice for french fine dining in Victoria. Steak Frites - Fresh Fish Specials - Fine Desserts and an price point considering the territory of resturant. 'A little bit of BC makes the french easier to swallow'
Our favourite restaurant in the city. Okay, so you can't get a reservation here, I get how that can be frustrating. But look at it like this: they will never be booked up. You can always get a table, you just have to show up. One of our favourite rituals is to get on the list (they'll take your name and text you when your table is ready) and go out for a drink or two downtown before dinner. When you do arrive you get a quiet, cozy, candlelit restaurant that's unassuming with impeccable service. The menu is ever changing with a few key dishes that stay. Start with their stuffed dates, then try their steak frites, tell me you don't like it. From Beouf Paleron to Duck Confit, to Rockfish to Moules & Frites, you've got a solid menu that has something for everybody. The wine menu is also comprehensive, and I haven't had a bad bottle once from here. After your filling and thoroughly delicious dinner, there is a dessert menu that's equally appealing as the dinner menu (their special of lavender eclairs has left an impression on us) and for me, they have Hennessy available as an after dinner drink. C'est beau!
Bon appetit!
Can't say enough about the service and food ,,,make a reservation and go hungry .
Excellent food and sublime service. Loved the carefully curated beer selection.
The parmesan truffle oil "fancy" fries are the best. Locally sourced food, very fresh, very delicious. A bit on the pricey side, however, it is totally worth the cost. The wine pairings are spot on.
Felt the need to leave an honest review about the experience we had here two weekends ago. We were seated around 930pm after a brief wait, the host was polite and courteous to us. We had just come for the burgers so we did not order any appys or drinks. The food came out quickly and was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. However, my water was left empty for a while, and I had to ask the server if she could please top it up, which was not a big deal. We finished our meals and unfortunately the empty plates were left on our table for what seemed like quite a while, with no check in or service, while other tables around us received multiple visits. It was hard to get her attention or see where she was, so I eventually asked a different server if we could please get the cheque as we wanted to leave. The situation and interaction was quite awkward after doing so, and it made myself and my girlfriend feel a bit uncomfortable. I have been here a few times before and never had any bad experiences in the past. Other than the final service the meal was delicious and it would be worth giving another try in the future.
Always delicious. Great drinks list. Never disappointed.
Love the mussels, love the burger. One of my favorite restaurants.
The steak frites is outstanding, though that's mostly due to the frites. The steak was a bit fatty and considering how much it cost, I expected a bit more. The creme brulee is great too, no chocolate or raspberry to mess with it.
We went here for date night last night and we were totally blown away! Delicious food, great drinks and superb service by Micki and the front end staff. We will definitely be returning!
Gorgeous local ingredients prepared perfectly. Hearty, comforting dishes served with straightforward style and creativity. Paleron of beef was fork tender, potato puree silky, delicata squash tender. Vauclavan sausage and apples were perfect pairing. Crispy pork belly was luscious. Citrusy, floral local Sheringham gin cocktails and bold red wines all exquisite recommendations from our server to complement our dishes. Service was knowledgeable, informative, welcoming, cheerful and accommodating to all our needs including food allergies. Many gluten free options available. Would be 5 stars, but the escargot was bland and overcooked - everything else was perfect. I will visit every time I find myself in Victoria.
We lined up early because it is a small place and apparently fills up quickly. The food menu is small, the wine menu extensive, and they have a great selection of French beers. Their liver pate appetizer was divine and generously sized. So smooth it felt like velvet and when paired with their grainy dijon it was a great way to start an evening of French cuisine. We both ordered steak and frites: there were five cuts to choose from at diffferent prices and we made the frites "special" (truffle oil, parmesan with a side of aioli). The steak was perfectly cooked and if I hadn't been in public, I would have picked up the plate and drank the au jus. There was a dollop of blue cheese butter on top which I didn't know I needed in my life until now. Dessert was, of course, delicious. The service was prompt and efficient. Our server did not make small talk but was helpful when needed and managed to avoid checking in at that ever awkward "mouth full of food" moment. Overall, there are other fine dining places in Victoria that I prefer, but I would absolutely go back again.
Fantastic food, great service, just the complete restaurant experience
Incredible burger. I have yet to manage to finish both it and the amazing fries. Wine list is excellent and purpose built for the menu. Good selection of spirits for sipping at good prices.
Yes, you can go here for a truly decadent steak dinner; however, casual dinners with a beer or two are at the upper end of affordable and definitely top end of value.
It is always worth the wait.
One of my favourite Victoria restaurants. Great steak frites and authentic ambiance. Make sure you get your name in early!
Food was good. Nothing that stood out. Can't really being compared to anything in Vancouver in terms of French or even fine dining. We sat at the bar. The bartender Adam kept us waiting, was very curt, and cared more about making drinks than giving service.
This is one of those magical places that the locals know about in every city. Outstanding food and even better service. The staff treat you like family and some have become friends. The wait in line is well worth it. Ask for Mark to suggest one of his latest Belgian beer offerings - they have an excellent selection that is always changing.
honest service, quality foods and wines and a cozy atmosphere whether seated at the bar, in general seating or in the front more private space. The family meal is exceptional, whatever is being served, and you certainly will not leave hungry if that is your selection. And always find room for the house truffles!
The place and food was excellent but the place was VERY noisy. something other than a hard ceiling might he helpful
2016: Probably the most knowledgeable service staff in the city, first class simple food brilliantly prepared. Classic French brasserie dining. Update 2018: not up to the previous experience. Service lacked knowledge, was distant and even curt, the food was good, but not up to the standards of the best on the island, and didn't justify the price any more. The feel of a team on autopilot.
A MUST for anyone who likes simply perfect food and service. Go early since no reservations. But well worth it.
The restaurant is like a pub pretending to be a classy restaurant; noisy, crowded, rushed service, we could see the kitchen from our table. Tables do not have table cloths (the minimum you would expect when paying $53.00 for a rib eye). I had a glass of French white wine and wanted to try a different one, the server was about to pour the wine into my used glass, I had to ask her for a clean glass, she seemed to be surprised. The bar seats do not have a proper foot rest. We had a sausage dish with red cabbage, good, for a pub. Bread was served cold. That is the problem with some restaurants that claim to have a European flair, owners may not even had the chance to visit Europe. A 6.5 out of 10.
Superb French Bistro - service, food, wine selection all tops.
Very nice place. Will have to return to try more food. Staff are awesome. The only drawback is that it's so popular there's always a wait. However, the service they offer to take your name on the door (there are no reservations) and contacting you when a table is free helps to offset that.
Excellent service as usual. Fantastic food and thank you for the wine suggestions. See you soon
Excellent french cuisine, the reservations are first come first serve though so you much show up immediately when they open if you want a table.
Best burger in town and also best selection of Belgian beers by a country mile!
Cosy (nice central fire place). Good beer and tasty sides.
Best burger in town. Not a burger place. Line up early and enjoy some of the best dining in Victoria. Just enjoyed a wonderful meal with one of the best desserts I have ever had.
Best restaurant in Victoria! Perfect food and perfect service!! I've never felt ripped-off even when the bill hits over $200 :)
My favorite restaurant in Victoria. In the dozen or so times I have eaten there I have never left without my expectations being met. The service from Amy and Garner, drinks, atmosphere, food and value are all top notch. The burger is hands down the best burger in Victoria (get it with truffle fries). it Is always refreshing to dine at such a well run and excellent establishment.
Lovey place, everything was delicious - only thing is that I was fairly underwhelmed by the mussels which were highly recommended by the waitress (beer/celery something.. tasted like nothing). Everything else was great though. Lineup was very mild when we went on a weeknight.
Wow. As a French restaurant should, this place NAILED the duck. Absolutely amazing. If you like duck, this is THE place to go. Drinks were very well priced. Although you could tell it was a nice restaurant, I appreciated the un-pretentious, relaxed feel. I would love to go here again when in Victoria.
Probably my favorite restaurant in Victoria. Everything is consistently good. Big fan of the burgers. When they ask you if you want "fancy fries", the answer is "yes!".
Solid French, great service, good wine selection and we enjoyed the atmosphere.
the steak, French onion soup and the pomme frites were superb.
Amazing food, service with a smile. Small restaurant, fills up fast.
Always good notwithstanding the snobby no reservation rule.
The best restaurant in Victoria. The steak for 2 features an awesome 36oz bone in NY with a wonderful platter of veggies. Staff are such knowledgeable foodies and somaliers in the city. The burger is hands down life changing.
Still my favourite restaurant in Victoria! We've been several times and the food is always outstanding.
Closed when Google and your website say your open. Sorry we missed you. Looks good.
We have been doing here for 10 years. It's a true gem and if you haven't been you're missing out.
terrific. great cocktails. no reservations & limited seating, so queue up @bout 5
Very wonderful food, staff and atmosphere. Best burger in Victoria. Excellent French onion soup. Muscles are amazing. Lamb was perfect!
Great beer selection.
Worth it!
I hesitate to say how great it is in fear of not getting a table next time we want to eat there, but I have to be honest: it's great.
Wake up your dead taste buds, awesome taste with great service. Liza was an awesome host.
Exceeded expectations! Ordered a bunch of apps to share and loved them so much we ordered more. Each item was delicious. Service was great and the French atmosphere was lovely. Would definitely recommend and will be going again!
