Dailyn Ramirez Review of Brasserie L'école

We lined up early because it is a small place and apparently fills up quickly. The food menu is small, the wine menu extensive, and they have a great selection of French beers. Their liver pate appetizer was divine and generously sized. So smooth it felt like velvet and when paired with their grainy dijon it was a great way to start an evening of French cuisine. We both ordered steak and frites: there were five cuts to choose from at diffferent prices and we made the frites "special" (truffle oil, parmesan with a side of aioli). The steak was perfectly cooked and if I hadn't been in public, I would have picked up the plate and drank the au jus. There was a dollop of blue cheese butter on top which I didn't know I needed in my life until now. Dessert was, of course, delicious. The service was prompt and efficient. Our server did not make small talk but was helpful when needed and managed to avoid checking in at that ever awkward "mouth full of food" moment. Overall, there are other fine dining places in Victoria that I prefer, but I would absolutely go back again.
