To me this is one of the best bookstores in the state. There are very few that rival its size and selection. When you first enter you think, "Oh, just a small bookstore," but then as you start to explore you realize how much more it is. There are three floors with each one having a half dozen rooms with thousands of books in each of them all perfectly organized and neatly displayed for easy finding.

One of my favorite features of this particular store is how each of the areas of the store have different feels to them. The main lobby is a hustle and bustle New York City type of feeling with floor to ceiling best sellers, and new releases with heavy foot traffic from the front door and island of registers. Then moving to the kids area it calms into a playroom feeling with stuffed animals, toys and bright colors.

As you descend into the levels below the sounds all quiet and the creaks of the hardwood add to an ambiance of an old world antique store. With several places to sit down and read, and devices about for accessories and searching. With each section clearly labeled and organized in a manner of thought, this easily takes my vote as one of the best bookstores. I highly recommend you go here first to find anything on anything by anyone. Staff is great and knowledgeable and its friendship with local authors like myself, is very appreciative.

This store is wonderful and feels like a maze from some fiction book. I like the reading room upstairs with great classical music and comfortable-looking chairs. Their used books are a little bit more expensive than other stores, but their selection is nice and the used books are usually in good shape.

Really good prices and HUGE selection. This has been in Boulder forever and they have everything. They even have nice used books. Great kid book selection and pretty much anything you could want. Their staff is also excellent. Really enjoy coming here.

Really nice bookstore, it has 3 floors filled with books. They have big sections with recommendations in pretty much all genre. It also has crafts, souvenirs and gifts for book lovers. If you don't find the book you are looking for they'll get it shipped in a few days and if you want it faster they'll arrange for shipping to your house. Also make sure to check out events with authors or writing workshops.

Loved this place. It's rare to find a bookstore in the era of Amazon and kindle. Nonetheless, the selection of books, the cozy layout and friendly staff really make this a fun place to discover books and other cool items. Worth stopping by.

It was super packed. I would have stayed longer but I had to use the restroom and they are locked here and did not dare ask an employee of they could help me due to how busy they all seemed. I was looking for a few kids books for my collection. Not the best experience.

It's awesome how they have so many different levels of books upstairs a basement a main level. It has a great spot for kids to play and a kid reading area. Also right off Pearl Street so might as well stop there if you want to check out some books and you're on Pearl

What a fun shop. Love that there are used copies of books in with the new copies so you can decide which you'd prefer to take home. Staff was so helpful and loved all the recommendations posted throughout

A good bookstore for browsing, but won't necessarily have what you're looking for in many cases as they don't stock up on things in the same way Barnes and Noble does, for instance. The ground floor is great for browsing if you're not sure what you want, but I was surprised to find lack of books I thought they would be guaranteed to have. Not a very impressive section for books on Christianity, manga, or foreign languages.

Honestly the best bookstore I have ever been to, and it is a hobby of mine to visit bookstores around the world. Vast collection of some of the most rich content. Wonderful selection, good atmosphere and if you're a local who frequents here the membership can't be beat.

The bookstore was amazing! The writing group was rude! My companion and i said two sentences to each other in a pretty soft tone and we were shushed and told to be quiet by someone taking a class . They also blocked an entire section of the store/ It really dampened our shopping desire. Hopefully next time the group will not be meeting.

So cute! Very good covid protocols. They have a great, diverse selection of "recommended" books. The used section has great selections. The children's are has so many kinds of books with excellent representation! Friendly and helpful staff too!

Fantastic, fun store with a great selection and a comfortable atmosphere. Definitely a blast to navigate through all the rooms and genres, and they offer more than just books. Plus staff is awesome!

Their Covid restrictions are quite strict.
-Limited occupancy
-Temperature checks
-An overabundance of hand sanitizer
-Basically a bouncer when you walk in

I like that in a store like this, one which can feel cramped in spaces. The selection is massive, and they have a great kid's section. I actually found the name of my second son in a baby name book at the Boulder Book Store.

I was saddened to see the Christianity section filled with not Christian books, specifically Rob Bell and Deepak Chopra. Would not recommend when looking for a wide area of books, as it is specifically targeted for the very left-leaning book enthusiast.

A three-story book store, what else do you need in life? I spent hours browsing through numerous collections. The bookstore is very organized. Very friendly staffs. I will definitely coming back.

The Boulder Book Shop is a small, yet cozy and warm store on a cold Boulder day. With a large inventory of books on multiple levels of the library, there's every genre here with plenty of books to sift through.

Chairs and couches cam be found all around the floor, allowing customers to read through potential purchases. The shop is silent except for the soothing, relaxing music playing quietly around the store. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable of the inventory.

All in all, the Boulder Book Shop is my favorite book Shop and a home away from home.

The only complete, independent bookstore in Boulder. Three floors of books, with insightful "Staff picks". Good children's section as well as a selection of writing journals, used books, magazines, etc. Worth a visit if you prefer a local independent book seller with a unique atmosphere.

Wonderful bookstore. Their selection is to die for!! They have both new and used books on every topic imaginable! The only problem I sometimes have is that it can be a little hard to find an employee if you're looking for something in particular, but everything is organized and it is so fun to browse. A must visit for anyone in the Boulder area!

If you're a lover of books, or just a lover a locally owned, cherished, brick and mortar businesses, visit the Boulder Bookstore.
To me, one of the main factors that makes a town appealing is lots of locally owned businesses. When I drive thru a town and all I see is Best Buy, Target, Costco, Walmart, etc., it just feels like there's no character. If you feel the same way, the only way to keep places cool is to spend a little more to shop at local businesses like this one.
And since they have a decent number of used books, sometimes you find great deals.
Boulder Bookstore isn't just locally owned, it's also a beautiful building - especially the top floor where they host events - and they have a great selection of books.
I will never forget the first book reading I went to there because I had no idea the upstairs was so spectacular.

Great selection of books. Whole bookstore has a historic resonance from its time housing Naropa Institue. Love the upstairs spirituality and psychology room. Best place for Buddhism and Yoga books

Such a great variety of books. It's easy to get lost in here (literally and figuratively)! Great section for kids, too, with lots of beautiful books and activities for your littles. Join their rewards program for a discount on purchases.

Surprisingly I ve gotten better service, better prices and better selection at the Barnes and Nobles on the other end of Pearl St. Several of the used books I ve priced here were much higher priced than at other used books stores when I later found them.

You could spend a whole day here! It gets pretty busy on the weekends, but still fun. I love the various levels and the overall vibe of the store. It is packed with everything. I can't imagine they wouldn't have what you are looking for. It is a must stop when we are shopping the Pearl Street mall.
