Walked to Bolton castle from Asgarth Falls well worth it. Excellent refreshments and toilets. Only down side as dogs arnt allowed in the castle or gardens now due to hawks in the garden. Other wise a very nice place to visit

Confusing layout needs a better map to find your way around. Would like more info in the rooms too. You could easily miss a room or in fact a whole section. Disappointed that no wild boar on sale in the shop, nor a sign to say where it could be bought nor what local restaurants are supplied. Missing a trick there. Interesting though. Huge castle much bigger than Midlam (?) That we were at a couple of days earlier in the same area.
Very impressive castle in a striking setting, the views from the top are worth the entrance fee. State of exhibits and an expensive stewed cup of coffee in the tearoom spoiled the visit for me.
Great location and plenty of history surrounding the Boltons. The views are magnificent. You have to pay for parking and space is somewhat limited if you come at peak time so be aware of that. Closes at 5pm with last admission at 4pm
Fantastic place to touch some history. Not only the castle but also the garden give you a sense of live of nobility in the past. Must see. Highly recommended :)
Loved this castle. An interesting combination of ruined and occupied with archery and a brilliant falconry display makes it a great family day out. Hillside location with great views and pleasant garden. Nice tea rooms and friendly staff. Quirky room displays including one with dress up and have a go writing quills. Particularly liked the possessed bed!
Bolton Castle couldn't wait to get there ,walked 3miles on a very warm day with my husband and dog. When we arrived there was nowhere for us to go , dogs aren't allowed in, but they aren't allowed in the gardens either, so unless you have someone with you to go in and get some refreshments you are completely stuck.I think it is right that in 2018 we expect a little better.
Website and Google misleading about opening times have to search for dates of weddings as castle compleatly closed on these dates unless you look in to the full website you will be in for a shock cannot stress this enough as I learned the hard way
Very interesting place superb views and although the birds of prey weren't flying due to windy weather Callum was very informative both about birds and wild boar well worth a visit
A stunning castle with beautiful views and so many things to explore. The history behind the castle is interesting and it is surprising how intact the structure us. The staff are great and there is so much to see and do. Especially enjoyed the falconer exhibit with the birds of prey.
Went to see this castle this week before going went a on website and look at leaflet to see if dogs Al!lowed. Both said did friendly apart from in inside castle.after paying for parking then going to entrance to pay it said dogs no longer allowed in due to falcons we hadn't travelled far but what if we had. . This is a disgrace the Web site needs changing and the leaflet s Will Not be recommend ing this place to anyone.. A total disgrace!!!!,
Great castle with informative interpretation displays. The falconry display was a particular highlight, very informative and fascinating. The tea room is really good, great coffee and exceptional cakes.
Walked here from Aysgarth, didn't have time to check out the inside of the castle but did spend some time in the gardens which were definitely worth a visit. Highlight was the falconry show which was run really well, birds are clearly happy and well looked after and definitely worth catching if you're there at the right time.
Castle in amazing condition with stunning views. Car parking ok if a little tight at busy times. Costs three pounds which is reasonable (two pounds of which will be knocked off the entry charge if you take in the re opt stub). Really good interiors, cafe looked good, garden and maze fun, also birds of prey. All in all plenty for half a day of fun and interest. Oh yes, and for the more leaky amongst us public toilets both in the castle and at the car park. Plus check out the wild boars near the car park they are wonderful.
Brilliant historic castle, well maintained, has a cafe/restaurant inside but didn t have a chance to sample it,car park close by or park on nearby roads.
Visiting Bolton Castle is like stepping back through History. Having seen the castle featured in Countryfile a group of us were inspired to go and visit and we were not disappointed.
Bolton must be one of the very best preserved and kept castles of its type. Within, the Mediaeval world is effortlessly brought to life with period tapestries, furnishings, suits of armour, and all the things one might hope to find in such a place!
Most interesting was the castle's particular history - it was once host to an imprisoned Mary Queen of Scots - which was neatly articulated during the tour. If you prefer to just roam around there's an easy to follow guide.
There's also falconry and archery and the view over Yorks is extraordinary.
Thoroughly enjoyed our trip here. Got be one of the best castles I've ever visited. Set in beautiful surroundings and countryside. Loads of activities going on watch and enjoy. I was a big fan of The Archery and Bird of Prey displays. Beautiful gardens outside and really are nice to look around. Nice how the castle combines a modern theme ( to facilitate wedding functions) and the medieval era. Lots of areas authentically set out to replicate how the castle would have looked in it's hey day To sum up I would recommend a trip here to anyone
Staff were very helpful and polite. The castle is on several floors and the grounds can be a little slippery in the rain (it had been raining all day!), The maze and rose gardens are fun. There is a falconry show, pig feeding and archery. Stunning scenery and good history, linked with Mary Queen of Scots.
Beautiful Castle, in beautiful Wensleydale. Well worth a visit, staff are friendly and helpful. Views are glorious, falconry display is fab. Highly recommended.
Second time to the castle. It's situated with a very impressive view over the Yorkshire dales. Good amount of information boards to review as you navigate the ruins of the castle. The climb to the top of the remaining tower is definitely worth it. On the outside Gardens are small but well kept and the falconry experience at the bottom of the gardens is well worth attending.
Excellent trip to Bolton Castle. Great birds of prey demonstration, excellent food in the cafe, fantastic historic castle and even my 3yr old son got to have a go at archery. Great day out as part of the historic houses. Highly recommend.
Even an old cynical Lancastrian like me has to admit that this whole area, for miles around, is "God's own country". Like so many parts of North Yorkshire this is a wonderful place to visit, especially if you are on a motorcycle.
Good family day out. Falconry, archery demo and wild boars all add something to the usual castle visit you'd expect. Cafe good too although probably too small for a much busier day than we had.
Very pretty castle ruin. Part inhabitable and used as a cafe and tearoom this Was booked for a wedding at the time of our visit and not open to the public until 10th of feb 2018. Nice old church opposite, village gree with benches overlooking the castle and dales. Worth a visit but check on line if planning as a day out. We took it in as part off a 7 mile circular walk.
