Really good day out. Beautiful setting. Lots of history.
Very idyllic attraction in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales National Park with picturesque views of Wensleydale and the surrounding area. The castle itself itself is in pretty good condition bearing in mind the age of it and there are informative interesting displays detailing the life of the people that lived and the purpose of each room. The gardens themselves are small but beautiful and the whole place is nicely topped with wild boar and falconry displays which themselves are excellent to watch and the persons running them are knowledgeable. Admissions and shop priced are very reasonable and the staff are warm and friendly. Overall a great place to visit for a day out and worth recommending.
Absolutely transformed since I first visited 30 years ago, it was basically a featureless ruin then but it has now been brought back to life. Falconry display fantastic.
Lovely on dry day. Not a lot to see around castle but they try to put on displays to fill the day. Good cafe a little pricey but some special offers. Entrance a little expensive but some concessions. Glad I went.
Amaizing view, there is parking with amaizing view!!
The castle is in great condition and is set in a beautiful part of the world. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. My little boy loved it there
Only went to fly my drone over the castle but will be back to look inside
Amazing place, very nice staff. Lovely tea room - soup of the day and cakes serves all day. Parking is free when you buy tickets to visit the castle. Archery, maze, bee house and birds of prey available - just check timetable.
Really good visit chapel on roof .authentic as it gets
An almost complete castle with something of interest for all ages.
Excellent day out. The castle itself is superb, the tea room restaurant very good. We also enjoyed buying some plants with some good advice available and chatting with kestrel handler, Holly. Absolutely splendid location.
Parking (charge). Be mindful the place was built before wheelchairs were invented. Great cafe. Nice to wander in the gardens and also catch a demo of the birds of prey.
Excellent castle attraction. Lots to see. An experience.
In a lovely setting. Unfortunately only visited the tea room on this occasion
Castle was closed for winter but location offers excellent views and rural walks. Public toilets were reasonably well maintained and open despite the castle being closed.
Magnificent . We did the long 3 hour walk too, lovely scenery, a few coffee shops and the abbey is just great to be amongst. For the family and couples alike. Walk-in score of 2 , 5 the hardest .
The most beautiful thing today was to watch the little schoolchildren how much they enjoyed the interactive lessons at the castle. There was a lot to see and on the sunny day a superb view from the tower!
We went as a family and explored the grounds. Had a great time. We went to 2 of the many demonstrations and people were helpful and friendly. Hot chocolate was. Nice but very hot. Loved the Easter hunt available currently.
Amazing medieval castle, very well preserved and in the beautiful valley of Wensleydale. After admission you have access to the whole castle, including the upper walled areas with great views of the surrounding landscape. The castle also includes a bird of prey centre with daily displays included in the price. Definitely one of my favourite places
This castle is a gem of a place, fell on it by accident, what a great find... Home of Mary Queen of Scots as a prisoner. ,every turn reveals a suprise, really worth a visit... lovely tasty meals served too,an added bonus...
Lovely cafe with COVID-19 awareness e.g. sanitiser, masks though narrow entrance & exit. Clean toilets too.
Lovely place to sit. Snack or drink. Views over the sea. Clean. Pleasant staff
Nice castle and the history is well explained, but it's lacking in the "other" advertised areas, such as the cafe and gardens (and one of the main gardens was locked off).
Walked from Aysgarth to castle bolton whilst on holiday. The village is beautiful with great views of wensleydale. There is also a cafe in the castle, dogs not allowed in tho, disappointing really.
