Very good. Only draw back is the entry price is hidden until you have paid for parking and entered. Why not display prices in the car park?

A beautiful place to visit and the guy who did the archery demo ( I didn't catch his name unfortunately but he is the resident falconry expert) did a brilliant chat very confident, funny and interesting. I would definitely visit again when in the area
Very interesting castle with lots of history. Gardens are lovely too
Great staff - extremely friendly, engaging and will informed
Great looking castle. Unfortunately couldn't go in properly as we had the dogs with us
Interesting place to visit. Enjoyed the birds of prey. The falconer was very knowledgable and fun. He also did the archery presentation which was good to try. Also had fun in the maze. Also has a nice little cafe where the food smelled lovely but we only had a drink.
Beautiful partly ruin partly intact, nice coffee and cake in cafeteria castle is free to visit.
The food was excellent.
The lamb was gorgeous
Fantastic place and wonderful food in the tearoom, castle was great fun to explore and we loved the maize
This place is great lots to see and the bird display is fantastic. Not very good if you have a problem with steps , as it is a very old castle and has lots of stairs. But it is a great day out for a family. Cafe good also prices not to bad.
I the history in those wals ,if theycould only talk. Staff friendly. Cafe nice, only had a drink so unable to comment on foos
Very informative people there when we went. They were getting ready for a re-enactment of life in the kitchens using the fires and recipes if that time. A chap told us lots about the weapons and armour if the time. He let my 12 grandson hold the weapons and said how yhey were used in battles. I climbed to the roof of the castle with a 4yr old, via the well worn stone spiral steps, this is not for the faint hearted. All very interesting.
Its well worth a visit.
Good value for money , it's a great place to visit , family fun and very informative
Great place. The chap who does the bird of prey display was amazing.
Fantastic! The re-enactment team were brilliant, so passionate and enthusiastic.
Beautiful castle, beautifully preserved and a piece of Northern English history.
Included is the birds of prey show.
Spent several hours enjoying both the castle and the falconry demonstrations. Much of the castle is in ruin but it is fun to imagine what it was once like. Lots of good signage explaining the castles history.
Great castle to look around with some really good displays
Well worth the walk from Redmire Village, also accessible by car!
Great visit for National Trust members as well as families to picnic.
The gardens are delightful, the castle and it's history are intriguing and the daily birdshow is amazing.
Make the effort.
Lovely day spent here, the bird of prey show was great and the food in the restaurant was really good
Great place for day out. check what's going on in the day as it can vary due to weather and sometimes is closed for a wedding venue. part ruin, fascinating history attached to the castle. Mary Queen of Scots held prisoner here. great views. Beware very steep winding staircases. Also falconary display is a must to see. Callum being the perfect falconer. good size tea rooms serving lunches. seats could do with cushions. Small gift shop. garden area with maze and rose garden. Small selection of plants for sale. Large car park save yr ticket as you get a discount on entry.
Lovely castle in beautiful countryside. Saw a display with 2 owls. Decent cafe and castle gift shop
Fantastic historic castle in a beautiful location with lovely staff.
Interesting castle. Very well preserved. Falconry display. Nice gardens. Very narrow roads so be careful in a motor home. Recommended
Had a fantastic day with me wife and the falconry lady was great this place is a must with your family a place not to be missed
Very helpful staff and gentleman took me around the castle main rooms even though I was late.
It's okay. Nothing going on at as coving 19 keeps us in lockdown. Stunning views and photo opportunities, okay for a stop off if your sightseeing in the area
Fun family day out, the activities included were fun, the kids enjoyed having a go at archery. The food in the tea room was nice.
Great place, mainly left as it was. Fantastic garden.
Brilliant castle and has a lot of interesting history/stories and rooms
Excellent place! Great for children, beautiful surroundings.
Lovely castle but check tea rooms opening times - we were disappointed today because it was closed
Incredible castle lovely large areas to exore including Mary Queen of Scots room. Gardens pretty small maze ideal for little ones. Falconry birds kept for displays and also archery displays.
Really enjoyed the day exploring. Cafe food reasonable staff lovely prices average. Entry 30 pounds for family ticket. Pay to park also
Nice place to visit although a donation might help with the upkeep and also provide more visitor boards. I would be happy to pay
Sorry it's not free, i went through the wrong door. Need to use the money raised for upkeep as it's shabby and the displays are crap
Bolton Castle is very impressive place to visit and there is a lot to see.
Fantastic value for money, lots to see and do. Good bacon roll in the tea room.
Most of the castle is in ruins. There's two large empty rooms that could have some sort of display in, but are unused. They have archery and falconry demonstrations. There are much better castles around the country to visit
This is a terrific castle!
Even if you weren't big on the history, it's worth it for the views alone.
It has everything - portcullis, spiral staircases, Mary Queen of Scots' chamber and more, but it's the sheer amount that's there and that's been made available to view that's tremendous. A lot of effort has been made to bring it to life, and there's the right amount of information - enough to tell you all you need to know without deluging you. Kids loved it - plenty for them.
Well worth getting up to the top of the tower!
Clearly access is what it is in a building of its age and nature but the extent of the building that's open is wonderful.
Everyone will have their own thing - for me it's the wear.on the stone steps and the groove in a flat cobble on the route through the portcullis which must have seen a lot of wheels!
Visited 2 years ago, on my way to Glasgow. Nice small castle (compared to other huge massive castlea I had been to). Friendly staff. Was very windy when I(and wife) were there, but still enjoyed to top (roof) castle visit.
Nice trip but not much in the way of activities. I went the day it opened so maybe things not set up yet
We couldn't go in due to Covid but it looks great and I want to see it another day. Being a soft southerner I also learned something about The Pilgrimage of Grace something not taught in Surrey lol
Nice castle, very informative staff and a wonderful medieval garden. Well worth a visit
Great place, plenty to do, staff at the castle transport you back to long ago and explain how life was like back in the day.
A lovely morning spent , admiring the wonderful history big Bolton castle . Would recommend a visit to anyone new t the area . X
Superb. Castle is really interesting and shown off warts and all. Bird of prey display is likewise entertaining, engaging and informative. Ditto the gardens. Stop by the cafe for super fresh, locally sourced, creative good value food. Can you tell that we enjoyed our visit?
Well preserved medieval castle with great demonstrations of archery and falconry.
Nicely preserved castle in a lovely setting. Small pay car park nearby. Nothing much in the village but still a very nice place to visit.
Great views from the towers and battlements and some fascinating history on show.
Loved how some of the rooms were set out, and being able to go up onto the roof
Well worth a visit if you're in or around Wensleydale. Fascinating old place. The views from the roof are stunning. Walks and rides in every direction from here.
Lovely historic castle great for all ages , has a cafe in castle reasonable prices also has picnic area and gardens with maze , wild bores ,owls and falcons , beautiful scenery ,and lots of the castle to explore , recommend this place More
Friendly knowledgeable staff good archery demonstration shame we couldn't see the falconry display because of the weather
I was lucky enough to get married at the castle a number of years ago, a truly evocative, atmospheric place which I can't recommend highly enough, a fantastic day out in a beautiful part of North Yorkshire
A beautiful place to visit, great views, gardens and a bird of prey display.
An excellent day out. We used our Historic Houses cards, but looking at the prices it seemed reasonable anyway. The Bird of Prey session was awesome and the people dressed up were brill.
Interesting historical building with lots to see and set in beautiful grounds.
Issssssss huuuuuuuge
Its awesome it huge I love it
Well presented - especially the garden with its birds of prey show is worth seeing, and the castle has some creative things to do for kids.
Very nice cottage, lovely location. Arrived to find a welcome pack, which was a nice touch. Would recommend it.
Live demos and rare chance to get a feel for how an intact Norman English castle would have been like.
Great "alive" Castle. Lucky enough to find it when Medieval Music Fest on too! Really nice day, enjoying Castle rooms, views, atmosphere as well as music and stalls. Very good Falconry display and lovely young chap doing this and Archery was so interested in his job, sharing lots of info and time with us.
Would love to return for Falconry Experience if we can.
Nice cafe in the great hall, great features and birds of prey exhibit.
Great castle and gardens. Fantastic location. Activities for kids in the summer. I had visited about ten years ago, and it was better than I remembered.
Nice to see the boars running about. Boar burgers in the restaurant are tasty too! Nice selection of cakes aswell.
Well worth the walk. Food a little pricy but well worth it.
Arrived at 4:52pm, 8 minutes shy of closing time so only got to see the outside. It was impressive enough. Next time.
Superb visit inside and out. Luke's demonstrations were engaging and informative.
This is a Medieval Castle which is still in its original form. Some lovely shows and an excellent maze with a very good bird of prey show! No access for prams as the winding stairs are very narrow. Parking is available on site which is refunded after you've paid and displayed. Overall an excellent day out which is part of our heritage!
Used to enjoy walking around the grounds with the dogs, but dogs no longer allowed in the grounds of the Castle because of the birds of prey. Didn't see the notice until we had paid for parking!
