This restaurant is a hidden gem. It was worth leaving I-10 to stop for a meal in Bluegill. Fish, oysters and shrimp were super fresh. Service was fast and pleasant, despite the fact that the restaurant was full. Thank you for enjoyable experience.

Food was great. Service was great as far as the waitress was concerned. There seemed to be confusion about the timing of the food arriving at the same time. It wasn't a big party either - 5 adults and a child.

The flaming oysters were wickedly delicious! As if that wasn't enough, the broiled (I know, but I'm on a diet) seafood was seasoned to please any Southerners palate, not to mention the excellent service. The cheesecake with caramel drizzle (what diet!) was a great ending to a great meal.

Bluegill Restaurant is a must stop while traveling! It sits right on the bay and is a classic seafood house. The Flaming Oysters are a must! Our family stops here every year and eats and has never let us down. Those with younger kiddos that dont eat seafood they offer several other items. The servers are always friendly and fast.

Great food! Prepared perfectly. Had the Bluegill Platter... fried oysters, grilled shrimp and blackened fish with Mac 'n Cheese and cheese grits for sides. Absolutely wonderful. Excellent service. Then, to top it all off, there was live acoustic music to enjoy.

Went here for lunch with an extended family. Service was amazing and so was the food. Couldn't complain at all about the atmosphere, service and quality. Everyone was so attentive and helpful even during the lunch rush. Thank you so much!

Any time we go it s great! This is mostly a one star for online ordering. I ordered the fish and ship plate. That was $17!!! I received a small piece of fish and 3 shrimp for $17. I find that ridiculous. I simply won t order online again.

The Blue Gill has gone down in recent years, this makes the second time within this past year that me and my wife have left without ordering. They advertise Crawfish every Friday and Saturday which in the last 2 times we have went they were out of crawfish or decided they were not going to do it that night. The menu is extremely limited and lacking in seafood choices.

Me and a couple friends went for a late lunch. The view is always beautiful. I ordered the combination shrimp and oysters and fries. It had 3 shrimp and 3 oysters that tasted pretty good just not much food. My friends ordered the "trash fish of the day " which was blackened mahi and they said it was delicious. Service was just ok but overall a nice lunch.

Always good, however today our appetizer (fried green tomatoes with crawfish sauce) was extremely over salted. Restaurants have a tendency over salt things for our taste, and most times it is tolerable. This time it wasn't. Easy to add salt at the table if needed, but impossible to remove it after cooking.
Remainder of the meal (blackened red fish, Cesar salad, oyster loaf, coleslaw & vegetables) was really good as usual.
Servicer was personable and efficient, good service.

This was recommended by a local business that we stopped at during our exploration of Spanish Fort. It didn't disappoint. With both indoor and outdoor seating, live music and plenty of seafood options, it is definitely worth a stop. We tried The BLUEGILL platter and the french dip. The sandwich was a wonderful portion and price. The platter was good as well but the technique on "blackening" wasn't quite there. The blackening seasoning is good and I would request it again but if you are looking for a truly blackened food item the finishing sear wasn't enough to call it blackened. Having been my first visit however, I cannot say if it is typical so give it a try if you like it (I will). We also tried their made-in-house cheesecake which was quite good. The restaurant may not look like much from the outside or to others, perhaps it's a diamond in the rough but it is definitely a place I would try again. It is a plastic cups and paper towel roll sort of establishment. The parking lot was full at 4 p.m. on a Sunday. It seems as though they may be a local favorite.

Very nice place , fried pickles n carb claws are really good appetizers, my wife had fried green tomatoes blt sandwich it was really good , for me the grill flame oysters ( I think that's what they called ) I usually get them at every restaurant that offers them , to me here were a lil too salty , just my taste can't talk about anybody else but maybe too much cheese makes them tasty salty , we enjoyed the food anyways ..

Saturday evening our family went here for a celebr...

Saturday evening our family went here for a celebration. We were a group of about 20 people. I have three complaints. 1: I'm allergic to seafood so I ordered the grilled chicken breast sandwich. It was bland with no seasoning or sauce. There wasn't anything special to it, but the fries were good. Dollar menu quality. 2: The waitress took my sister's plate while it was half eaten and she didn't ask if she was finished. I believe her name was Ali Cate. 3: All of our tickets were messed up. They ended up having to contact one customer to add more to their ticket because they left it off. I would say if the restaurant missed it, they should take the loss. We would've ended up paying too much on our ticket had my sister not caught the mistake on ours. I noticed that they put everything on one ticket to begin with and separated the tickets after. The confusing ticket situation could've been solved had they originally placed everyone on the correct separate tickets to begin with. I had even mentioned when ordering that we were on our own ticket and they said they would separate it after, so it wasn't for lack of knowing. Overall, we had fun celebrating each other so the experience wasn't tainted by the lack of quality the restaurant had. I have to give them a 1 star because the food was bland and there were too many avoidable mistakes.

Me and my mother went to Blue Gill last Saturday d...

Me and my mother went to Blue Gill last Saturday during the dinner hours. We had been to Blue Gill before and had enjoyed the food so we decided to return. But this visit was not a good one. We arrived at 7:15 when the hostess told my mother that it would be a 20 minute wait for a table inside the restaurant. We said that would be fine and ask for them to put us on the waiting list. We received a text message supposedly verifying that we were on the list. So we sat in the waiting area for us to be called. After 35 minutes of waiting we began to see people whom had asked to be on the list after us going in and being seated. When we asked the hostess she replied that we needed to wait our turn and there were several more people in-front of us. So we waited 15 more minutes and still people whom had asked to be added to the list after us were being seated. We asked the hostess and she said it may be another 30 minutes. When we were finally seated they placed a ticket on our table saying we didn't get put on the list til 7:45. And this was not true. When we got our food it was over cooked and tough. I do not think we will be returning to Blue Gill after this. It's just the principle of not lying about your wait times to look good on google reviews. Attached is the picture of the message Blue Gill send my mom saying we were on the list and the ticket they put on our table.

The hostess was very friendly and informative

The hostess was very friendly and informative
when we called to ask about gluten free options for my mom who has celiac disease. She even took our names down for call ahead seating as we mentioned we were headed their way. The food was very delicious, we had fried alligator appetizer which my dad enjoyed so much he then got the meal, my mom got the blackened shrimp with turnip greens and coleslaw and it did not upset her stomach so kudos to the kitchen for keeping it gluten free! My husband got the hot oysters and he really enjoyed them. Our meal would have been 5 stars had it not been for our waitress, Nina. She must have come to our table 14 times repeating the same line My name s Nina and I ll take real good care of you. I asked her for a gluten free menu three times and each time she would say okay I ll get that right out to you and then she would go away for a few minutes, return empty handed and take our drink orders. It took her two attempts to get our drink order correct (we ALL ordered water.) My dad ordered a beer to be brought out with his meal but she brought that out right away then kept trying to get him to order another one. After 20 minutes, my husband s oysters came out but our food was nowhere in site. She kept stopping by saying your foods gonna come out soon! but my husband was completely finished with his meal and we STILL had not gotten our orders! The people behind my parents had left, the table sat empty for a few minutes then another couple was seated...they received their order before we even did! Finally I asked Nina what the hold up was as the people at the table came in 45 minutes after we did and were already eating. It shouldn t take an hour to prepare 12 shrimp, a butterflied chicken breast and some fried alligator. I honestly think she forgot to put our order in. She said I m so sorry, I ll make it right I ll go get your order right now. 5 minutes later our order came. We waited over an HOUR for our food. I saw her talk to the manager and he looked at us but he never came over. She brought us the bill, never took anything off or offer us a free dessert NOTHING. At least you could have TRIED to make it right! We will be back because the food was good but if I hear My name s Nina and I ll take real good care of you I m hopping to another section!

I was torn about giving 5 star review cause Service was slow, But my meal was well worth the wait. Started with Gumbo & Voodoo shrimp. Had the fried pork chops which were tasty. Finished off with Coffee n cheesecake. Considering the pandemic and the Curfew we had from the hurricane. I thought it would be unfair to hold that against them.
