I took my 85 year old father to this hospital for an operation to remove a cancer lump from his lung. It was awful the staff ignored us and were not friendly. We were upset enough without there bad attitude. We had incident after incident with my father. They got him mixed up with another patient and told me someone we did not know was to take dad home that day. We live a one hour drive away so I was panicking because the ward aide would not listen to me. When we went to pick dad up he was far from ready. This was after a phone call asking me where I was. No district nurse was arranged to see dad who was sent home with a catheter in. I had to inform them myself. My dad has memory loss and when I asked what procedure he had gone through. I was told my dad has been told and I would have to speak to him or his doctor. I could go on and on but my advise would be. If you have to use this hospital be warned. The doctors that helped my dad were brilliant but I am sorry I can't say the same for ward 38 .

This review is for the urgent care centre at Victoria hospital on tonight's visit .
2 weeks ago I was dismissed as having a muscle spasms in the back and since then the pain became even worse and pain spread all across my stomach area etc to the point I went to urgent care tonight at 4.15pm for my appointment I was given .
After waiting nearly 2 hours the end result was to be told by the woman doctor I didn't look ill .

on the telephone earlier to urgent care a male doctor phoned me and he asked me what I thought was wrong with me and this was after explaining all my symptoms to him so he was in fact waiting for my own diagnosis .

The woman doctor who said I didn't look ill should be investigated for that comment to patients as its not an appropriate thing to say to anyone on an appointment and extremely rude and unprofessional from a doctor to even say that to any patient they see .

It is fortunate I don t use hospitals very often. ...

It is fortunate I don t use hospitals very often. Blackpool Vic is a disgrace. My mother has been treated in Ward 35 on 2 separate occasions.
The first 18months ago I found the staff rude, arrogant, and economical with the truth and dam right offhand After my mother who at that time was was a dementia sufferer but could still comb her hair and know when she needed the toilet and other little daily procedures, had fractured her hip. She was left in her bed, no effort made to get her up, no effort made to give her drinks or help her with her food which was left on the tray at the end of her bed - she couldn t have reached it and the dementia meant she didn t even know what it was. Good job me and my sister fed her and helped keep her hydrated when we were there.
I tried to get my mum discharged after 13 days to get her back to her care home where she would be cared for. The sister told me I was a cruel unfeeling woman trying to discharge my mum back to a care home when she was being so well looked after in her Ward.
Mums in Ward 35 again, thank God the staff are so different. Simon, one of the senior nurses knows his job, does it and talks to relatives. AND mum is being care for
Which is just as well as
Mum has been ready for discharge since 22nd March after another hip operation. Now we move to the poor lack of coordination between all the different groups of staff. The Occupational Therapist( OT ) decides on Thursday evening (22nd) mum cannot be discharg3d without a piece of equipment to help transfer her from bed to chair and vice versa. It still hadn t been ordered on Friday. The lovely Simon chased it up and it eventually was ordered on Friday. The care home have to inform the OT when the kit has arrived but they tell me throughout the time mum has been in hospital it has proved almost impossible to make contact with this person. Let s hope they manage to make contact on Monday because the OT has to visit the care home and provide training for the staff to use this piece of very simple equipment.
All this means Mum is probably going to be occupying a bed for at least 7 days more than she needed to. AND hospital complain about bed blocking. They are the biggest culprits

Dirty and smelly in back corridors. Some staff working but not all and no cooperation between them. Nobody knows what is going on. Just a circus. Total chaos. Whoever the managers are in this circus they need to start doing their job. Fire hazards as well with several blocked exits. There's couole of lovely ones but most of the receptionists set a new high for snotty

I had a CT Scan on the afternoon of Friday 19th June 2015 at 4.50pm - I was in a nervous state and was put at ease immediately by the two very caring CT unit staff - I wish I had made a note of their names as the young lady and young man could not do enough for me - their kindness and courtesy made such a huge difference to me and soon put me at ease. Thank you both so very much

I have no complaints at all and feel privileged to have been treated with dignity and respect at my local hospital.

Been in for an operation and had excellent treatment from all staff. The fracture clinic were super, the process of booking in for my operation was professional and thorough, the anaesthetic team were friendly and upbeat, the after care was wonderful. A great team on Ward 34 on 12th and 13th February made sure I was taken care of and they worked so hard day and night for the care and comfort of all patients. Before being discharged I was thoroughly assessed by the physio to make sure I was fit to go home - given exercises seen by my excellent surgeon who explained everything he had done and what to expect. A five star treatment in a busy NHS hospital. The staff deserve more credit than they get - not enough words to express my gratitude.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all concerned in the care and wonderful patience of everyone including doctors, nurses, and surgeon Mr Vose who tried in vain to effect a recovery of Leslie Brennan.Sadly now departed my wife (leslies sister)and i his brother in law who loved him as my brother would testify that no greater care could have been given anywhere thank you so much.

Every time we go, and it is every other at the moment, we encounter people, visitors and patients, smoking outside the doors. This is in spite of all the huge signs all over the place saying smoking is not allowed anywhere within Hospital grounds, including car-parks, doorways and gardens. Why bother spending so much money on these huge signs if they dont mean anything?

Most front line staff are amazing in their professionalism and dedication but sadly let down by one or two of their colleagues and poor administration, appointment times are a work of fiction and tend to be what they would like to be and not what the end up as. Maybe down to >20 patients being given the same time slot? Too many abusive and violent drunks harassing and threatening staff and patients in A&E as well!
Parking isn't too bad, since opening the multi storey car park but is a little expensive.

From the multi story car park we walked from the easily parked car directly into the main entrance which was spacious and welcoming! Immediately we were approached by very helpful staff who gave us directions to the pain clinic. As I was in a wheel chair, the staff member (Colin) took us personally to the dept!

I would of given 5 stars if it was not for the unfortunate end wait for a doctor to attend my son. The paediatric doctor in question was rude unprofessional,And made me feel like I was being interrogated in police custody. Bearing in mind my son and me had been in A&E since 10.30 am and was now 16.30. All my son had had was a sandwich nothing offered to drink. And I myself had had nothing. All other staff amazing care and compassion. And I would like to thank the ambulance crew. Who are a credit to the hospital. But I left on a very unhappy note all due to the doctor who Had proceeded to speak to me in a disgusting manner.

Blackpool has its ups and downs and the Victoria Hospital is certainly something the town has to be proud of. Impressive large main entrance hall with shopping areas and I could not say anything negative about the hospital building at all. Appears to be plenty of parking spaces even a multi story and this hospital is on a grander scale than the vast majority in the North West.

The service after my heart attack by the staff is excellent. Having to pay extortionate price for tv is disgusting. If i was in prison it is free
The other problem is no mobile connection which increases stress levels which is not good for any patient particularly in cardiac. Imagine the scenario you are admitted with heart attack and you have all your family panicking wanting to find out how you are. They think you are too ill to answer their calls or texts yet you have no way of letting them know it is just that there is no mobile signals on site!

Saw my doctor on Monday, excess acid reflux and difficulty swallowing, called in for blood tests on Tuesday and received a phone call from the Victoria Hospital on Wednesday to go in the next day for a gastroscopy! Everyone I saw at the hospital were great, explaining everything and reassuring me and when I went in for the procedure the doctor was very good and the two nurses were excellent. I'd love to be able to thank them, especially the nurse who monitored my blood pressure and heart rate! I'm useless remembering names but could someone perhaps tell her "My green, zip skirt was from Matalan" !!

I was admitted to the stroke Ward 32 on the 29th December and can only say that I was treated absolutely perfectly by all members of the team, nothing was too much trouble. The food was quite acceptable and quite varied every day. The HCA s were marvellous as well as the Staff nurses and Sisters. If you ever have to go on this ward you will be assured of excellent care!

I attended Victoria hospital on Sunday 22nd Sept suffering from chronic pain in my left shoulder, moving into my chest and arm. I am so glad to have gone there on that particular day. The attention to detail and the care from all staff was incredible. I spent 4 hours there mostly in the AED ward and had numerous procedures and tests carried out, some more than once.
The place was buzzing with a team of lovely friendly staff, and the happy banter amongst them just helped to relieve the anguish a bit.
In that time I saw three different doctors and each one was professional and thorough and I wasn't allowed out until they were happy that they had addressed the issue.
I would like to just say thank you to you all for your care on the day, you are indeed the dream team.
Keep up the wonderful work.

Was taken to hospital via ambulance after calling 111 with chest pains. Whilst the care I received from the paramedics, nurses, health care assistants and doctors were second to none and I was dealt with and discharged in an efficient manner the accident and emergency waiting area is very poorly equipped to deal with anyone who has a mental illness.
At gone midnight there was a television in the waiting area blasting out rolling news from the BBC which I found extremely irritating and stress inducing (I don t like being in environments with loud noise). I did attempt to listen to a meditation track on my phone to calm myself down and also drown out the noise from the television but was unsuccessful due to the ridiculously loud volume (quite why the NHS insists on broadcasting the BBC on their premises when the BBC takes every opportunity possible to annihilate and complain about the NHS I don t know). After I could bare that no more I went into the corridor and waited near the window. A short while later I observed a male receptionist talking abruptly to a young man who said he had mental health problems. He was struggling to get a drink from one of the vending machines which appeared to be jammed. Rather than offering assistance the two receptionists just stood watching him with amusement. A short while later the young man walked out of the hospital altogether. Another patient went over to reception to inform them that he d walked out. The female receptionist cheered and said oh, he ll be back without a care. I am absolutely appalled by this attitude. I m beginning to wonder if the hospital don t actively go out of their way to employ admin staff who abuse people with mental health issues as this isn t the first time I have observed such behaviour whilst at the hospital. It just puts all the work of the medical professionals who are working flat out to shame. No wonder suicide is in the increase. I hope the young man eventually gets the help and compassion he needs.

Just want to say a massive thank you to Mr Grixti ...

Just want to say a massive thank you to Mr Grixti and his team in the Opthalmic Surgery Department who took good care of me during my cataract surgery on 29th October.

I had developed a cataract in my left eye which had detereorated very quickly during lockdown when I was unable to see a consultant to such an extent that I was unable to see at all out of that eye. Because it was so dense Mr Grixti warned me I only had a 1 in 10 chance of it being removed successfully in one operation and that I may face further surgery. Whilst sitting in the pre-OP ward waiting for my op my anxiety levels were through the roof but I was put at ease by Isobel who did my pre-OP checks, the theatre nurse who took me through to theatre whose name I have sadly forgotten, and all the theatre staff who then took over my care before, during and after my op. They were all so lovely and supportive. But my biggest thanks goes to Mr Grixti himself for managing to remove the cataract successfully in one operation whilst keeping me informed at each stage during the op what was happening. I cannot describe the relief I felt when he told me he had removed the cataract.

All NHS staff are doing an amazing job and my thoughts will be with you all during the next few difficult and challenging months ahead. Thank you.

I was referred to Mr Khan, Surgical Registrar, on Ward 19, from Whitegate Drive Walk-in Centre on the 7th December, as I had severe abdominal pain. Mr Khan checked me over, sent me for blood tests, and then saw me 90 minutes later with the results, which confirmed acute diverticulitis, so he prescribed two courses of antibiotics. Super service, super Consultant, and his Nurse, Lesley, was so kind and helpful too. Well done.

Amazing I have read these reviews in some dismay as our experience with my mum has been brilliant and nothing short of 5 stars the staff and everyone has really tried to help us . Junior doctors rude and ignorant I have a care folder supposed to be used by doctors regarding my many conditions he threw it on the table didn t look and went straight to google to look up my condition 3 hours in pain whilst he wandered round looking blank. I had a red allergy band on my wrist his conclusion was neck sprain and gave me paracetamol and ibruprofen which the red bad indicates I m am allergic to . I am on morphine , opiate patches, paracetamol and gabuplentin . What use are paracetamol do they read notes . My neck if he checked my file was locked in dystonia spasm all that time for nothing . It s true also I have done a survey on social media on ageism at the hospital 59 people backed me on that. There are to many people coming in the back door that is why the death rate is so high us over 60s are a nuisance to them . Mr Raj put back my appointment 9 times even the papers published that cataract surgery patients are back placed to make way for patients coming in the back door. Can you also explain why Asian consultants are paid nearly double English consultants are paid as the come in as bank doctors .
I live in Blackpool but my consultants are at Salford royal can t recommend it highly enough I had 50 min consultation with my consultant he turned to face me pulled his chair up to mine listened and kept eye contact that s a good doctor.

I Visited the Gastro unit today for a procedure which was carried out by Dr. Issac and his team whom I can't praise enought. From the moment I entered the unit, the staff nurse who dealt with me was excellent, she put me at ease and made the initial contact pleasant and reassuring. In the actual treatment room Dr. Issac was pleasant, professional and efficient. His nurses were great, helping me every step of the way. The discharge nurses were also excellent. All in all a pleasant experience in what was a difficult time. Thank you all.

I had an unexpected stay earlier this week, and I can not praise the the hard working staff highly enough, from my first contact with the paramedics taking me in to the department and waiting with me, all the time keeping me informed and reassuring me, all the way through my treatment every member of staff that was involved in my care were friendly and caring and although not the busiest time it was clear they're resources were over stretched, yet nothing seemed to much trouble when it came to my or other patients care, it was clear many were working harder than I ever imagined, I just hope people realise how hard all the staff in this hospital are working and everyone of them playing an important part in the running of the department they belong from cleaning & catering staff, all the nurses, up to the Dr's and consultants' some of them carrying out jobs that are not they're responsibility's but by doing so, helping they're colleges to spend that extra minute with a patient in need.

How the situation of the health service is,& here it's very clear, This Hospital is a credit to the NHS

The only reason I gave one star is because I couldn t get on here without giving something if I could take it back I would. My mother is in this hospital getting ANY information is impossible. Don t get me wrong I haven t been a nurse for 40 years without appreciating what busy is. BUT at this time of no visiting you think some thought would be given to some sort of access to information about patients to next of kin. I am truly astounded that mum moved wards today I eventually the new ward answered the phone I was relieved - very short lived the person who answered said she wasn t aware of mum she went away and came back and said she was asleep SUPER so could you tell me if she is eating and drinking eh I ll go and find out she comes back no sorry I don t know I haven t met her. She is sleeping. Could I ring back? Yes when is best REMEMBER this is 20.30 tonight Saturday- tomorrow about 14.00. I am absolutely astounded. Sorry no punctuation I needed to do this.
I have no idea if she is doing ok or if she is poorly and won t make the night. I honestly can t believe this.

have multiple cysts on my ovaries, blood in my urine, and off platelet count, high blood pressure, a bit of a temperature, I've experienced so much pain and it's been increasing for months and now I can't really walk to much without crouching from the pain, no pain killers are touching it. So I visited whitegate to be referred and so they referred me to this hospital's gyno department I arrive they take bloods , take me to a bed 3 hours after arrival I'm in the bed for another 6 hours not being talked to cared for when a doctor who couldn't care less comes over to me ( after the promise of having an abdo scan and pelvic scan) says as your bloods don't show any alarming signs we can't waste our resources on someone who's condition doesn't seem serious....he further states most young female don't have high pain tolerance so the pain probably isn't as bad as you think , I suddenly burst into tears cause I've put up with this pain for a numerous amount of time now waiting around on appointments e.c.t he thinks I'm faking my crying and he then says how is your mental health I responded not great because the pain I'm in at the moment and further suggests maybe going to the doctors to get some councilling or anti depressants! I'm held over in agony and he then goes, we could try stronger pain medication (co-codamol) and see if that helps. Obviously it isn't touching the pain still and so I go after waiting another 3 hours for the medication to arrive ! And then I'm trying to walk and I just can't that well cause the pain and feel unsatisfied because although they took in all the information they ignored me, didn't take me seriously and pretty much told me too leave!( Before I left when waiting for the medication someone who shared the same symptoms who was in ther early 30's had the doctor say her bloods seem fine but we need to find the cause of your pain and that theyed arrange a scan!)
They are agest , sexist and careless.... While I'm here unable to do daily things , bed ridden and suffering from pain they couldn't give two shits. :(

I know you are a busy hospital, but for you to decide to keep a patient in as you are concerned about them due to breathing problems, then leave them sitting in a chair all night as there were no beds on the wards. Even though you were aware that sitting aggravated the condition. This is disgusting.

There were 4 empty cubicles that were not being used. When asked if she could rest in one, knowing if a new patient needed it she would have to move back to a chair, it was refused. These cubicles were not used for 5 hours.

My daughter was not even offered a trolley to rest on, even though sitting worsened her symptoms.

One of my other daughters is a nurse and I usually defend the NHS to the hilt. Not your fault about bed shortages, but uncaring attitudes, shame on you.
