New ownership, and now the menu is largely seafood. Not really my thing, and it is pretty darn expensive. My brother's entree was $28 and mine was $22, and they were both "specials!" That aside, it is a great atmosphere and a great location. Be aware, it is valet parking only unless you park nearby and walk there.
Warm feeling place with great food and great service. Went for a baptism and they were very accommodating. Only are I would improve is the bathroom which is on the second floor and was difficult for some older relatives of mine.
Great food, good atmosphere, our go to place in Morristown when hunger bites the tummy!
Steak cooked 1 level too high on all 4 orders, bread harder than a hockey puck and potato wedges = reheated McDonalds French fries
Good food, savory wine, and nice room in the back for small parties/ meetings.
Our waitress Geraldine went above and beyond in absolutely every way! The Crab Cakes were also the best that I have had. Would definetly reccomend coming here for amazing food and service!
Excellent pub attmosphere for light lunch or full dinner.
The chicken pot pie was really dee-lish. Server was very nice and attentive. Enjoyed lunch here a great deal.
At the moment you step in that restaurant they give you an agreeable feeling. Very comfortable crew, it is a friendly restaurant to to go out with buddies or with your date. delightful cooking, creative chief cook and stuff, decent pay and attentive service. Warmly recommended.
Perhaps you should stick to burgers and steaks..fish and chips were not crispy, fries not hot..
Good food, nice atmosphere. The restaurant is from the 18th century, so the walls are not straight anymore, that has charm.
The service is great. The garlicky clams are okay. The clam shaped dish they are served in are the best feature of this appetizer. Not a lot of garlic and the clams are not fresh. The prime rib panini is tasty but the fries it is served with are very oily. The mac and cheese has a premade not homemade taste. The blueberry blackberry pie was awesome. It was very fresh and loaded with great tasting fruit.
The Pub is a great place for a burger and beer. The staff is friendly and the Sunday brunch is great. A bit expensive, but so is everything in Mendham
Been here (the pub) many times and enjoy it very much. This visit was for 6 of us on a Saturday night and was busy. They don't take reservations at the pub but I was told over the phone earlier that day that we could call ahead when we were on our way and they could put us on the list to shorten our wait. When we were leaving I called ahead and told the gentleman that answered that we had been told to call ahead and was told "Yeah, no we can't put you on the list. Sorry boss".
That said, the wait was not too long, service was a little slow due to how busy it was. Food was good.
This place is great, friendly staff and yummy food!
Wonderful atmosphere, fabulous menu, great flavor, appropriate prices, our waiter seemed overwhelmed. Will revisit.
Lively upscale pub across from a more formal restaurant with the same name. Excellent hamburgers.
Great food and service! Went for a communion party and had a great time!
I love this place!!! Living in New Mexico has its perks but all the while i dream of the Black Horse Inn!!! The food is absolutely amazing the cocktails are okay but the staff/service and the enchanting atmosphere is dripping with history not ta mention it was once a carriage house. Tonight really topped it... i asked for some matches and unfortunately they no longer carry them :( but the big bossman came thru like a night in shining armor and gave me 2 wine glasses with the logo!!! I cant tell you enough how I adore this place! To top it all off the Valet not only had my jeep waiting for me right in front... now this is where it gets good folks.... i only had one match and unfortunately it didnt light :( the Valet ran off and then i look up and low n behold........ MATCHES.... with the Black Horse Logo!!!! Joe was his name... extremely handsome with such a smooth n gracious personality with a smile that weakens knees!
Little pricey, but the food and the menu makes it worth it. Can't beat the atmosphere.
St. Patty's day. It was packed. My good friend played bagpipes I side. Shepard's pie was awesome. A little $$$$$$
Black Horse Pub probably best as a local Mendham pub and grub joint. Been coming here on and off for nearly two decades. There's always someone you know. Prefer the bar as the bartenders are consistently quite good.Food is OK - sometimes a bit ambitious and pricey. Stick with simple things although the $6 a pop colossal shrimp are always fun. Service is hit or miss. Our server this week was either very new and barely trained or plain inept. Don't recall the name and only ID on the receipt is VRG. He barely knew the menu - food or drinks. Service was very slow. Yet other times the staff was top notch. On average this is a 3.5 to 4 star place, but no more.
Had an amazing prime rib panini at the Black Horse!
Food is going downhill while prices are going up! New chef has some work to do!
WILDLY, OBSCENELY, AND OFFENSIVELY OVERPRICED. This is an average tavern experience that charges more while delivering nothing special.
Every time a restaurant swings for the fences with their prices, They're definitely taking a huge gamble. If the food can justify the price, then it's a home run. If not, then it's an utter failure. Black Horse Tavern is the latter.
Charging $37 on Easter for a duck entree that's mediocre is utterly unacceptable. Charging $47 for a filet mignon and then having the server leave the dirty knife on the table because they were poorly trained is completely unacceptable. How can they justify using olives from a can on their salads? I ordered a cocktail and I could have mixed it better, so why did I pay them $15 to make a terrible cocktail?
So, because the prices are off the scale, you should absolutely avoid this awful place.
Great tavern ambiance. Family friendly. Attentive service.
A really good meal with a very comfortable atmosphere
Wonderful place for dinner, reasonably priced and an excellent selection.
A wonderful place to eat and have a drink. The staff was fantastic! Really reasonable prices and a great selection on a menu that is not so crazy that you cannot make a decision. Great appetizers and salads!! Packed on a Tuesday night!!
Great food and event management (Jennifer was awesome).
My family and I have made it to go here every year for not only Easter but mothers day also. The staff are very helpful and the food is amazing. I absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for somewhere to eat!
Was a nice place to grab a couple of drinks and appetizers while visiting with family.
Always a great meal!
The management and wait staff, especially Jen and Kathleen, always make you feel welcome.
This used to be one of our favorite places before the Covid pandemic. We were happy to be able to take a scenic fall drive and have lunch on a beautiful day.
Hubby and I both ordered the pub burger. I always order mine without the bun and I did so this time. I ordered mixed fruit as my side.
When our food arrived, there was a small bowl of fruit and a lonely burger on my plate, along with a little container of ketchup. Where was the lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles? Where was the presentation I look forward to each time I pay $13 or more for a basic burger? Disappointing to say the least. The fruit was not fresh and had a tangy taste to it. Super disappointing. I asked for bbq sauce to put on the dry burger and I had eaten half of it before our server brought it out.
Hubby ordered a burger with cheese and fries and only ate half of the burger. The fries were the best part if both meals
We will probably try again, but for a classy place like this, it was a tragic experience.
This place is worth trying. They serve large portions for convenient rates. Regularly clean and with excellent ambience. I highly recommend this place.
Top place as you would expect in Mendham! Dante the bartender is awesome!
Always a good time at the pub. Fireplace, not expensive, good food. The Tavern side is more expensive but very old and historic. Not recommended for children as much as the pub side. A bit less casual than pub. Both sides are recommended.
Fabulous. Visiting from UK. Very friendly waitress great food. Thank you
Great meal in a wonderful setting. The filet was outstanding.
Very crowded, and since they don't take reservations, even for large parties, I would discourage a party of more than 4 on a weekend
Great place, great food. Prices are a little high, but the drinks are strong and delicious. Live music on weekends!
I used to go here all the time about 20 years ago, and I thought it was great back then... fast forward to present-day, the service is horrendous, the food is just okay, and the prices are ridiculously high. I really wouldn't bother
I had searched up dog friendly places near me and this place popped up. Once we arrived they said we couldn t bring are dog in so one of my family members walked around with the dog until we finished eating. The service was slow but the food was decent.
Clams were awsome. Best rare burger I've had in a while.
Very friendly, cozy comfortable bar area and family friendly
Very good service. Food was also good. We ate at the Pub.
Very disappointed. Entrees came out before appetizers, well 3 out of the 4 did. Everyone finished before I even got mine. Food was overpriced. Crispy cauliflower appetizer for $13 was just 5 florets on a plate, it was neither crispy nor even cooked well. Food was very average. They couldn't even get the mashed potatoes right. Absolutely no flavor. $30 lamb shank was dry, and the sauce was odd. Maybe it's an off night, but we won't be returning to find out.
PUB Special menu is fantastic, specially the Butter & the Sausage....try outdoor dining...& the guy..Scott.... makes it complete...just awesome
Really enjoyed the food. Actually better than expected. Service Was very good also. Would definitely recommend this pub.
The outdoor dining was delightful and our waitress Kristen was very friendly
I don't mind paying high prices for great food but the food here is average at best. Not to mention $3.50 for a small soda and no free refills. My 4 kids had 2 sodas each so it $32 for which amounted to a 2 liter bottle of soda. I'm not a cheapskate by any means but this place is too much.
We generally like both the Pub and Tavern. It is a convenient neighborhood restaurant(s). When it's good everything comes together well; food, service, drinks, etc. Tonight, fortunately, it was very good. My only problem with these two places is that sometimes it can go very wrong - soggy and/or tasteless food and inattentive service. The consistency issue is the reason I give it four instead of five stars.
Always great! Excellent local meeting place for so many years!
Kieran provided our group with outstanding service. We had a fantastic time. He made it a pleasant experience.
Chicken pot pie was great. We sat in a booth along the wall near the restroom. This was in February. There was a very cold draft along the wall coming into the building. I would recommend sitting At a table ..
Kaitlyn, our server, was very enthusiastic & had excellent meal recommendations. The timing for each item, such as drinks, appy, entree & drink refills was paced perfectly, in that we had room for brownie sundae topped with s'mores ice cream. But most of all during our dinner we had time to talk & listen to each other's day.
