Sorry, have to rate this place 1 star comparing to the Botany birthcare where I stayed after having my first child. Some staff were communicating in a manner that I would not expect to be applied towards new mothers who are sleep deprived and just gave birth.
Food & lady handling the menus was lovely.
My stay was awful- I shared a room with a women who had not turned off her phone day or night, even when I asked her to. I did not sleep for over 42 hours due to her being loud, snoring, her phone beeping DAY AND NIGHT, her playing videos and music out loud, and her multiple loud family members visits, including sneezing kids!!!! Rules of the birthcare state CLEARLY the amount of visitors, etc. Yet, after I complained at the reception and asked to help to find a solution to get some sleep after these 42 hours, I had no feedback, no help, no follow up- nothing. They just said "Oh, okay".
You have to follow up your own rules and make sure that everyone is comfortable, who else will do it?
I checked out earlier because I felt dizzy and over tired not being able to sleep at all.
Another problem- everyone who walked in left the door open, exposing me while breastfeeding etc. My room was in the corner and I did not feel comfortable being seen.
The bed light in my room was not working properly, it was flicking all night long and I honestly felt like I am in some sort of a torture chamber - overtired, not able to sleep, with a loud snoring "neighbour", and this flicking light on top of everything like a cherry.
There was not enough wipes and pads and nappies too, had to ask few times to get a top up. My medicine plan was not followed, I had to ask when they will give me my pills and I had to specify what they are.
Overall it was very bad experience, sadly.
I looked forward to getting some rest and support after giving birth.

My wife and I had a private room and found the experience very helpful in our transition to parenthood.

There was a mixed bag when it came to the staff in regards to their approach and advice. The handover between midwives made it hard to get consistent advice as each had their own opinions, sensitivities and personal approaches. We found some were short and abrupt and others to be very empathic and caring. Robin was one of the latter and she is highly recommended.

Also found there were times where the staff did seem stretched which may have impacted their ability to spend time addressing questions, concerns, and provided guidance.

We had an amazing 2 nights in Birthcare. All of the midwives are caring, professional and helpful. To make the most of your stay, don t be afraid to call them in for every latch, nappy change or anything else you need. It was such a nice way to ease into motherhood, having 24/7 advice and food. All you have to worry about it healing your body and learning about your baby. The food is great, and I also recommend going to the classes. Make the most of your time there as for us it made us so much more confident going home.

Did the basic job. Second time we've used this place so I knew what to expect. Points to note, they are relatively understaffed, the people that work there seem rushed. Yes I realise this isn't a 5 star hotel but staff could be slightly more obliging.. The entire place is starting to get a little dated, would have been nice 10-15 years ago I'm sure, but by today standards it is starting to look like an old peoples home and even smells like it. One good thing the food is above average.

Had the worst experience at Birthcare. Hope they will improve..
Very disorganised and understaffed, the people that work there seem very rushed. Different midwives day and night and they have different opinions and give different advice. so confusing. The quality of service you receive and meeting nice midwives during your stay is purely up to luck. Unfortunately I had poor milk supply and even had cracked, bleeding nipples. The lactation consultant Barbara was arrogant, disrespectful and had lack of professional attitude. I was exhausted, stressed and vulnerable but she had no empathy at all. My breasts felt empty and I was weeping. No comforting words..she just rolled her eyes and aggressively made my baby latch on to my sore breast, then said even triplets can be totally breastfed. As she walked out I was left in tears and it only added to the trauma. We all know that breastmilk is the best for babies but this is not the right way to encourage breastfeeding. No matter how busy they are, all moms should be treated with dignity, kindness, compassion, respect and understanding. Time has passed but Birthcare still haunts me. They cannot change the experience I had. To this day I am still upset and disappointed when I look back. Wish I never went..Definitely not recommended.

My sister had the worst experience here. My sister had a very difficult normal delivery. She has stitches, is in pain (obviously coz she has just delivered). Her partner was not allowed to stay overnight with her due to the restrictions. Which is fine if the night staff would have provided the much needed help and support to the first time mum. She was in her room from 8pm-8am in tears with the baby in her arm. With no decency from the night staff to at least check on her. She asked for the formula milk to be prepared for her Bub from one of the night staff. Who disappeared and came back after two hours with the milk. The poor Bub cried himself to sleep hungry by then. How cruel is that. The staff are not at all compassionate or considerate. Why are u guys in this profession if u r not at all passionate about babies or providing much needed support to the first time mums. Shame on you! Will also be complaining to higher health authorities about this as well and the media! Just putting it here to any first time mums who are actually thinking of going into this suite. Please be very prepared of not getting any help from these people!

recent experience was not good at all, no mid wife came to see us for 12 hours on the second night and 13 hours on the 3rd night, not a very good start at motherhood for my partner, lucky we had some idea of what to do. We paid over $700 per night and received 50% of the service. staff were really good during the day.

We had a son with a straightforward (no complications) delivery born in the maternity birthing unit of Auckland Hospital, and mother and child were then moved to the Birthcare center for the first 24 hours, and then went home.
Not only were the midwife and the maternity/delivery facility at Auckland Hospital excellent, but also the Birthcare center was excellent and with a high standard of care.
Highly recommended.

High quality facility and first grade care. There are some birthing suites available but your birthing options are more limited than across the park at Auckland hospital. If complications arise while at birthcare you may find yourself whisked off to the hospital.

If it were possible I d give them 0 stars. Absolutely horrible experience at birthcare parnell after the birth of my first baby. The midwives are condescending, unsupportive and have no empathy. They are understaffed for sure.. The night staff never shows up when you ring them. I was up with my baby all night and rang the midwife thrice but she never showed up! After checking in i wasn t even given dinner so I had to ring and ask for it only to get some of the most disgusting food I have ever eaten, the lunch next day was however way better. The midwives had 0 concern for my health even though it was very clear that I had been crying most of the night and was extremely tired and sleep deprived. They didnt give me my pain killers on time so I had to ask tor them. I left after the first night and pretty certain won t be returning to birthcare after future deliveries. And to top it off they forgot to give me my prescription for pain meds upon check out that my midwife had faxed them. Also they told us that we could leave at 4 pm after meeting with a lactation consultant but then at 12 said we should leave now so they could have the room cleaned... the midwives would barge into the room and leave the door open behind them when they left without any regard for my privacy! Seriously save yourself the trauma!

If you can afford to get a room on your own, it's fantastic. it's a shame though that a mother does have to pay almost a thousand dollars for two nights where she feels cared for, guided and supported on what can be some of the most terrifying nights of her life. Its a great experience though. Good food, great 24/7 care.

One of the worst experiences ever. Save yourself psychological trauma and give this place a miss.

1. I was day 2 post c-section. Hospital didn t give me a script for pain meds because they said I would be going to birth care and the midwives there would take care of it - my first night I waited 2 hours for some basic panadol and an NSAID because the midwives were handing over . I asked a midwife walking down the hallway to help as I was in excruciating pain, she advised I return to my room and buzz via the phone.

2. I asked for my baby to be weighed. They said they d don t routinely do that. I asked again the next day. Another midwife agreed. My baby had lost weight. Third midwife the day later came back saying that the baby was crying because he is hungry and my milk hasn t come through. Given the weight loss this is concerning was what she advised. So she suggested expressing colostrum. I suggested back at her ... you wouldn t have even known my child was losing weight cause you lot don t routinely weigh babies apparently...

3. I asked to top up my baby with formula as expressing was painful. They made me sign a consent form and read over a ton of risks associated with formula use. Formula is NOT a medical intervention it s food! What a disgusting policy for this place to have given they should really be supporting first time mothers

4. I asked 3 days in a row for someone to help/teach me to bath baby. I left without a single one of the midwives having come back to do so after each day saying they would.

5. The midwives did not teach me a single thing about breastfeeding. They checked the latch on each shift and then would walk out. It wasn t till I got home and my own midwife came by did I actually get any useful advice.

As a health professional myself, I find the incompetence, judgemental attitudes and conflicting advice given by the midwives here to be totally unacceptable and borderline dangerous.

On a positive note - yummy food. The kitchen staff are the most competent people in this place it seems.

We paid for a room. Definitely do not do this, such a waste.

It s a run down motel at best with dodgy staff with dodgy advice for significantly fragile first time mothers.

2 Stars of 5, first two days were amazing, midwife Jennifer Ch. Is amazing, if you do considerer staying at birthcare, try to have her as your midwife, the night lady of the first two nights I think it was Juddy was great too, although the last day was just awful with the new team, we went from being treated by first names on the first 2 nights to wait over 2 hours for a midwife to come to the room after we called her 3 times. By the way, I am typing this review at 10:52pm, trying to sleep at room 105 and all I can hear are the night crew talking about their holidays very loudly outside, no respect at all. Paying almost 500 dollars per night and our last night feels like we are in a cheap side of the road motel.

Nice facilities for pre and post natal care. Very highly experienced midwives. The best thing is the personalised attention which one gets in the stay here. The rooms are nice and cosy. A variety of meals are available and are freshly prepared always. The doctors and the consultants are very highly capable and considerate too. Very highly recommended and completely worth the stay there. The location is very convenient and ample parking is available.

I would recommend any new parent to be to go to Birthcare to receive some support with understanding your baby s needs. At Birthcare we felt supported by a highly skilled team that is available to help you at any time of the day. Push the button, even in the middle of the night and one of the lovely midwifes will come to assist you with a smile. If you're lucky you end up in a free shared room by yourself. If not, you can always upgrade to a private suite.
I would also recommend the physiotherapy session that they run for free. We got provided with important pelvic floor and abdominal exercises and the facilitator was able to do a quick body check accompanied with advise for recovery.
