Fabulous zoo. Really just a hike up the side of the mountain with really cool animals along the way. Amazing cats.

This was one of the most amazing zoo's that I have ever visited.

The zoo is very nice and the guides are very good people.

It was a fun experience for the whole family. I recommend wearing shoes adequate for hiking. The zoo is a labyrinth of trails that zigzag through the forest on a mountainside that overlooks the city of Cuenca.
You have the opportunity to come into close contact with monkeys and many other exotic animals. The trail is mostly covered by trees so you re not exposed to the sun.
The path can be a little difficult. I would not recommend it for people with limited mobility or the elderly. It takes about three hours to walk through and there s not an easy way to exit midway through.

To this zoo you must go with comfortable shoes since the whole tour can last a 3 and a half hours. If you go with young children as 2-3 years old, it is preferable that you do not carry a car or cane as it is impossible to travel with it. The cost of parking is $ 2 and adult admission is $ 6. Beautiful place to contemplate the view towards central, north and south Cuenca. To contemplate the animals well, you should go preferably in the morning since there are many species, if there is a bar where there are snacks and drinks. Taxis if they leave you at the entrance and exit, super clear phone signal. Go with comfortable shoes as there are several uneven sections, wear a hat and sunscreen.

A natural setting complete with dirt trails and some steep slopes (don't go after a heavy rain). I've been told it is a sanctuary for injured animals. Incredible views of Cuenca!

I loved the visit, I did not like the awareness part because it is very graphic and it must be taken into account that many children pass there and it is very strong for them, also the path can be improved a little more in some parts.
For the rest is perfect

The animals are well cared for. It is a protected and safe area.

There is a wide variety of animals and amphibians ... it is not for people with wheelchairs or who cannot walk long stretches

A great zoo with large enclosures and lots of interesting animals. Structured in a completely different way than is known from European zoos.
The Amaru Zoo is located on a mountain, which makes the entire area very hilly. Definitely not wheelchair accessible. It is a great trip with children, but do not forego your headgear with a parasol. Sturdy shoes or at least a good profile is recommended. You are not allowed to bring food, but there is a snack bar with hot dogs, burgers and fries in about a third of the zoo, but dishes such as Seco de Pollo are also available there.
There is only one circular route that runs through the entire zoo. And at a leisurely stroll with a break in between meals, it takes about four and a half to five hours.
From the top you can enjoy a wonderful view of the whole of Cuenca.

This is a fantastic zoo. The setting is on the side of a mountain in the middle of a forest. Not the greatest number of animals we have seen at a zoo. However they have the best enclosures. The view of Cuenca alone is worth the visit. Be prepared to spend at least two hours here. You should know that there is a good bit of hiking and elevation changes. If it has rained recently you will be hiking through mud as the majority of the trail is dirt. NE aware that there is no chance of making the trail with a stroller, wheelchair, crutches, etc. I highly recommend visiting just be prepared for a strenuous hike. Which is a good thing as if you are like me you have been eating too many large, heavy meals.

It was a fantastic experience. If you like to live with nature and see many species of animals of all kinds, I recommend it!

What a hike. This zoo is in the hills that surrounds Cuenca. Not the typical leisure walk through a zoo. It was a hike that lasted us 5 hours. Some in our group were elderly and with mobility issues but we all made it through. We got to see them feed the lions. That was an experience. Only thing between you and 9 hungry lions is a chain linked fenced. So if you want a hike through jungle like conditions with periodically stopping to see animals, this is the zoo for you.

We loved it, it's a long journey, but it was worth it, they must be very comfortable, shoes, a hat, water cameras and the desire to go up and down many hills ... Do not carry backpacks do not let them in

The zoo should put more information since it is not the typical zoo, you have to have at least a little physical condition to walk the whole trail of the mountain which is approx 3 - 4 hours. There are parts a little neglected where the served water comes out. Rubber or hiking shoes and umbrellas are a must. For people who do not want to do the whole trail there are no emergency exits, or you do the whole journey or you do not go out. So it is not recommended for older adults who are not physically fit or to go with cars with children. Young children get tired and will have to carry them. Animals that are cute and well cared for.

A lot of walking uphill and the only thing that was interesting was the lions everything else was boring, you wasted my money to see animals that I see every day leaving my house, I prefer Puyo zoo there they had very rare animals.

It is a wildlife rescue park with loads of animals safely taken care of. It is definitely worth a visit. It is not just about seeing the animal but you can learn a lot about animals and the environment.

It costs less than 5 USD by taxi from the historical centre but costs about USD 6-7 to get back.

It takes about 6 hours to go around the whole park.

Bring plenty of water as you will be walking all day.

A fabulous zoo. I will try to get some photos off my camera that are better than this from my phone. Go on a dry day as the walkways are mountainous dirt trails that could get slippery. Natural setting. Pure at heart as the animals are rescued from circuses and illegal possessions. The rookery is wonderful for getting close to the smaller birds. I think I saw five Condors in flight. Remarkable views of the city. The office will call you a taxi for your ride out if needed.

I did not like the environment in which the Eagles and birds of prey are very narrow and can not fly
