Huge, exceptional wave pool surrounded by great water slides. Some of the tubes have LED's in then for a psychedelic effect (something like the end of "2001: A Space Odyssey") as one is zooming by them in darkness). Others are open and one can see the park, city and sunshine. This is one of the best and most exhilarating experiences of my summers.

It was a lot of fub! It has been a while since I've gone to big surf. The slides are always great and the lines are minimal. However the waves in the wave pool have become weaker. It doesn't seem like there is enough wave action in the wave pool. This is why I'm giving big surf only 4 stars.
It is very good to spend a family day, has parking for the disabled where to eat and drink and enough bathrooms to change men and women and lockers to store clothes, and extension chairs, rafts for children and offer safety vests for water for children
We had a blast at Big Surf today. It's not overly crowded, the people are nice, it's easy to maneuver and keep track of your kids there, which as a parent I really appreciate. Plus the price is great. My boys were obsessed with the wave pool. My youngest really liked the slides Cyclone and Black Hole. The park is old school, but we like that. We got some Dippin' Dots on the way out of the park. Super fun time!
It may be kind of a small water park but it is so much fun, I went from 10am- 2:30pm and honestly the waits in line weren't as long as I thought they were going to be. Got on slides multiple times but my favorite was the wave pool!
This was lots of fun. The food was decent, and priced about normal for this type of park. The rides were fun. The lines weren't too bad, but we went during the work week. Could use a little maintenance, but enjoyable. The wave pool and big slides were awesome.
1st staff needs to be educated on policy we called ask if we can bring coolers diffrent days and times. They told each of us no because we can only bring in one water bottle. Come to find out everybody had coolers entering the park . 2nd cananas are not worth the money. There are no perks besides the piece of mind nobodys going to steal your stuff. Its all the way on the back side of the park so you have to walk all the way to the front of park to use bathrooms or to go buy water and food. Me being pregnant and not knowing the location of cabanas we asked for refund . 3 people argued that pictures of cabanas location are on website and that its a far distance walk. Which was not. I asked to speak to manager they refused so i asked them to pull up on website where it states its a far distance walk the employee couldnt find it. Then another manager told them to give us refund. 3rd food is horrible and overpriced. Also all the employees didnt look like they wanted to be there they were rude. 4th they need to clean bathrooms the womans bathroom smelled like piss by noon and toilet papers all over the ground so gross also they need to add more bathrooms hopefully at the end of the park. The only good thing about our visit were the slides and pools.
Big surf is really a fun place to enjoy the day! The waves are AWESOME and the slides are pretty good, but the one thing Big Surf needs is some repairs being done. Some of the slides are closed because they are dangerous. This should be fixed. Other than that the park is super fun and I would recommend to all ages. Although the water could use some replacing.
It's ok. Water could be cooler. Water was very warm. Was looking to cool off and didnt really because the water was so warm. Wish they had a pool to just relax and swim in. Yes there's the wave pool, but they have sessions and it's not always available to people without a board. Slides are ok.
The park is fun and a nice place to relax in the water. Although the park is quite dated it still brings lots of laughs and screams. The lines aren't long at all and they move fairly quick. There are 3 Kid and toddler areas for the little ones which provide their own variety of slides! Overall, this is a great place to have an amazing time in the water.
Big Surf is an amazing place for a family outing.Children of all ages will have a great time and also adults.I would recommend Big Surf if you are looking to have fun in the sun and keeping cool in the pools.
This place is great for a simply day with some water. Watch your kids do not expect the life guards to do it please WATCH YOUR KIDS !!! but DONT lose raft on busy days they don't replace them and people will TAKE THEM! other then that a fun time
We go every year for end of year field trip. It's only open to schools so not very busy. Our students have a good time and request to go back every year.
Located on the boundary of South Scottsdale and Tempe, this water park is for all youth ages. Has a huge wave pool as well as smaller water pads and rides for younger kids. There is enough shade and lounge chairs if you get there at a reasonable time in the morning. Food selections are typical of this type of venue. They are sticklers for drinks from outside the park and will inspect your bag upon entry. You can bring a large cooler and leave it in your car and then exit and have a little lunch picnic for a much cheaper option. You may reenter the park with no problem. Highly recommend.
Fun summer outing with friends or family. Typically there is a Groupon or Living Social so that you can get cheaper admission prices. Only complaint is that even early in the day, soon after the park opens, many of the tubes are too deflated to use
Some stuff needs a new coat of paint but considering the age of the place they are doing pretty good. The kids love the wave pool, the bar is much appreciated. Season pass is by far the way to go to save $ if you plan on going more tgan once per year.
This is descent park to spend 2 to 3 hours though day option doesn't have enough rides to keep you busy. Rides are monotonous here. They can be more of water sprinklers/games for kids to keep them busy. This is just relative comparison between other water parks I have been to. However wave-pool is a big attraction and most of the crowd enjoyed to ride on waves. We end uo spending most of time just dipping in various pools.
Great place to take the kids for summer fun. They loved the wave pool and they the various tube slides. There are pools for younger kids. They do charge a rental fee for inflatable rafts and other accessories. Food was not that great: soft pretzel was dry and pizza was so so. No outside food is allowed so you have to purchase what they offer there. Did a Groupon for a family of 4 for $68, so it made it a decent purchase.
I have never written a review but am compelled to write this for several reasons. Yesterday Sunday May 31 I took my entire family to Big Surf for a birthday party. We purchased 16 tickets at the water park. Upon arrival on the front was a sign that the park had 5 slides down for maintenance. Wow we thought what did the park do all winter to have 5 of there 15 slides down. That was frustrating but then when we got into the wave pool there were hundreds of bee's in the water floating. When we asked the staff about this we were given no explanation. One of the girls in our party is deathly allergic to the bee's and could not get into the water. The condition of wave pool floor was also terrible one little boy not in our group had his back cut open by the surface of the pool floor. The overall condition of the facility was poor and very upsetting. You can rent a raft for $7.00 but if you only have an hour left to swim and rent a raft you pay the same amount. All of this was very upsetting but what came next was the worst part. I called Big Surf today to talk with a manager about my experience. I got Joe the facility manager after completing my concerns he began to laugh at me. I am in customer service and absolutely was floored that he was a manager. He told me the bee's were just a problem they deal with and that I should have gotten on line to see the post about the slides being down on there busiest weekend. That when we saw the sign posted right out front we could have opted to use our tickets another weekend. Really I was going to cancel the birthday party at the door. There was no customer service and he would not even allow our family to come back to the park another weekend for the horrible experience we had. I advise anyone wanted to go to a water park go to Sun Splash or Wet and Wild and stay away from Big Surf the facility is run down and the management is horrible.
Terrible water park. I've been to a lot of water parks and this one is by far the worst I've seen. The park looks like it hasn't been taken care of in years, With paint chipping off of slide and pools. There was trash in the lawns and I even found a rusty screw on the sidewalk to the wave pool. Very unclean. If there wasn't water you'd wonder how many years it had been abandoned for. I was ready to leave after about an hour having ridden all of the ride that looked fun. The wave pool is impressive in size but that's about it too long of a wait between waves. Spend your money elsewhere.
Fun place, fair prices for food and drinks compared to other places similar I have been to in the US. Half the slides or more seemed to need rafts or floats, and half or more of the rafts and floats were deflated. Place seemed dirty. I got there first thing in the morning and the tables were gross. I had to clean them off the tables for my family. Fun to go, but a little dirty and mismanaged place for me. One time only for me.
Big Surf is not safe, as it does not have any security protocol in place to deal with bullies or malcontents. After hearing about the way a nursing mother was verbally assaulted at the baby pool by an irate man, and her subsequent treatment by management, we will never be returning.
Dirty! Pretty upset that we spent money here. We stayed lest than 2 hours. Paint chips everywhere! Staff was great, the rest of it not so much. Place needs a good clean upside down!
The wave pool is alone is enough of a reason to go. Stayed for about 4 hours and had a blast. The electronic locker system gave me peace of mind for my belongings. Lots of food options there. Overall i would return when back in the area.
Fun and clean water park with lots of lifeguards to keep everyone safe. Slides were exciting and fun, but didn't throw you around so much that it made you sore. The wave pool is like no other, one single wave every few minutes that is huge. Safety note, don't stand near the red line, between the row of rafts and the shore. You will get run over when the wave breaks. Other than that nugget of wisdom, a good time was had by all.
Great place to spend 6 hours full of fun with the niece. Parking is free(woot woot!), Food prices weren't terrible and neither was the prices for the rafts. The lockers were a bit pricey but worth it for the peace of mind. The staff is generally friendly- every place has their grumpy heads but for the most part everyone was friendly and helpful. Do yourself a huge favor and buy a waterproof phone carrier before you go as they do not sell them there but it has become a necessity for me so I can keep my cash card and phone on me at all time.
Fun waterpark and we didn't have to wait too long in line but there was not enough variety. There were only a few water slides and a wave pool besides the kitty pools. We used a Groupon but, if it wasn't for Groupon, it would have been way too expensive.
Awesome place. Had a birthday party for my daughter there who is now 11 and everyone had a blast. I was worried about the kids who didn't swim to well , but they had all kinds of life vests available from adult down to infant. Food is great. Bbq outside, ice cream, icee's , pizza, French fries , chicken strips. And all at reasonable prices. Will definitely go back. The wave pool is the best !!!!
We love that the water never has that strong chemical smell! But we wish they were open longer, especially into Labor Day Holiday and more days during the month of August.
Yes, it's old and worn, but all of the slides are still fun, and the wave pool is great for body-surfing, boogie-boarding (2x a day), and surfing. Besides, it's cheap compared to the north valley alternative (Hurricane Harbor)
An affordable option for summer fun. However, Big surf needs new attractions and better upkeep on its current ones. When I went, two slides were shut down and The whole place felt in disrepair.I didn't have a bad time, but I had to wonder if all the paint chips in the water had lead in them.
My first Big Surf experience was in 1975, riding the massive waves from the Wall generator. We used air mattresses and the rush was definitely worth the wait. The super slide was awesome, too, however nothing iike rifding a naked wave.
It's a great place to take the kids to have fun. the best way is to bring a lunch so when they close the wave pool for surfers then you can go and get some good lunch in the parking lot and come back in to enjoy the rest of your day. Bring some sunscreen and some water bottles or your own water. That's all you are allowed to bring in.
Big Surf Waterpark is good for a fun trip. It's a little dated but everything is really fun. The wave pool is amazing. Gets a little crowed on Fridays but it's Friday you know. Not very long wait. Some times there are no waits. You can find coupons online. Food is decent all around. They stay open till 9pm on Fridays. Good over all.
New experience for ocean and lake surfers! We wanted to try everything once. We were just visiting but the regulars are so sweet here. Caitlin was super nice to us and took care of us. If we lived here we would regularly come to keep our skills sharp. With 3 groups we had about 3 waves in half an hour. I think there were more ppl than usual bc there was a corporate surfing event. Great idea and use of the wave pool for a friendly group of land locked surfers. Safe and predictable to teach kids and adults.
Take advantage of the season pass you'll save allot of money, I'm reading people complaining about the bees, wasps but what they don't realize is they're attracted to the scent of the pollen. And also reading comments about the maintenance of the flooring in the wave pool, it's not that bad the place is old but people still have a great time. If you see damage then avoid it, the water is crystal clear and you can obviously see where damage is but it doesn't ruin the integrity of the wave pool! The female lifeguards are hot, some of the guys tend to get carried away with their jobs (you're lifeguards not cops). The tube rentals are pricey though, my daughter's love it there! All in all its an ok place to go and have fun in the water for a few hours with the family!
