Big Bend National Park, is a great place to visit! It is out of the way and you will have to be willing to travel a few hours out of your way to get there, but it is well worth it! Scenery you like nowhere else and many activities including hiking, swimming, horseback riding and many more!

I was born in Texas and came back this past year for work, but I never imagined the state held this kind of beauty. Countless trails and vistas. If you live in the Lone Star State, this is a must-see.

An oasis of spectacular beauty in otherwise bleak west Texas. Best in April when wildflowers are in bloom. Visit Chisos Basin and hike the Window trail and the 12.5 mile loop trail to the South Rim.

I love Big Bend! It has so many amazing views, whether you are low in the canyons or high on the mountain's. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. I locked my keys in the rental vehicle I had and a park Ranger was able to come within 20 minutes all the way up to Chiso basin campground and unlock the car for free.
It really is a great place to camp and hike. The hikes are really adventurous and exciting. My 5 year old loved it, we are definitely coming back again.
Now there was a couple of things I thought were a little weird but it could be nothing. We stayed for the night our tent was a little farther from others. However, around 2am at night me and my son woke up to the sound of someone trying to get in our tent but our tent had 2 zippers so whatever it was only opened the first one after waiting awhile for it to leave and not hearing any footsteps of it leaving we decided to open it and nothing was there. The only thing was the open screen zipper that we feel they opened. We went back to sleep and once again we heard footsteps to our tent but it was only to our tent and paused right in front but never left.Could be a animal but the sound of human footsteps to animals? Big difference. The next night we came back late from the window trail and it was starting to get dark i was taking photos of sunset along the trail and my camera was just constantly glitching. Not sure what all that was but it was weird.

Big Bend National park is such amazing place to go hiking and exploring. The whole park can be divided into three main areas. Should at least spend two days in the Park. There are immigration booth on the way in. Don t forget to bring your passport if your tourist, green card if you re permanent citizen, and legal ID if you are citizen.

This park ranks right up there with Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, and a few others.
The best part is the annual attendance is 400,000, a lot less than the millions visiting the more easily accessible parks. I read dozens of reviews and blogs, trying to make the most of 5 days. Don't waste your time. Just go. Stop at any welcome center and ask questions. Then get out and do it. If you're lucky enough to get a room in the park's only lodge, you're close to everything. Otherwise, stay in Terlingua.
Note: There is no phone service or wifi in the park except at the Visitor's Centers. Plan ahead. Download maps and information before you go in. Have a great time.

Love this park!! So much beauty! The hiking trails are clear enough to go biking for a few miles (as far as we know) and the drive up to Heaven s Window is almost as breath taking as the destination. Thankfully there are spots along side the road specifically made for cars to pull over and safely take pictures. My only advise is to be prepared for anything and take your time while driving through, it s a very big park and it s abut an hour s drive to get from one end to the other. But it s so worth the drive. I m coming back here for my engagement photos!

Big Bend National Park, Texas

Big Bend National Park, Texas

Big Bend National Park in western Texas is a place for passionate selfies. Numerous spectacular views stretch along the border between Texas and Mexico. You can see the beautiful canyons of Santa Elena Canyon, the traces of long-standing neglect, and the starry night sky in North America.

This is such a wonderful place. It's mystic and charming. Tons of hiking trails. The brightest night sky. More stars than you'll ever see. It's dangerous and remote. If you want to get away this is your place. You might find a piece ground that no one has ever stepped foot on. One of the most diverse deaerts. The locals are a breed of there own. The geology is spectacular. If you go make sure to visit Boquillas across the border. It's safe and you'll be transported 100 years in the past.

I love this park! The the lost mine trail is awesome as well as the south rim. Rio grande village trail is great for sunrises and sunsets. The mountains are surprisingly green in the summer months and heavily vegetated in the higher altitudes. I love how you can see clear into Mexico. When the sun sets the mountains take on a vibrant pink and orange and looking at the millions of stars at night is a humbling experience. I usually start my trip in big bend then head to the davis mountains which are also very beautiful for a day of recoup before heading home.

I've been here thrice and am amazed each time I return. It seems that this park is so vast and so remote that you can explore it in near solitude. The hiking in the Chisos Mountains is wonderful, but so is the hiking along the river. Sunsets are GRAND and the view of the nighttime stars is one of the best I've seen.
Come prepared for extreme heat and cooler temps at night. Stop and visit the Rangers station for advice on hikes and ranger led programs that you won't want to miss.
I only wish I could return more often and take family/friends along to see this gem of the national parks system.

Truly a site to see. Big Bend has a variety of things for the nature lover and the not so nature lover. You can hike up to the Emory Peak or float the Rio Grande river. If you are looking for a get away from the cities and beautiful starry night skies, Big Bend is a for sure stop.

Always a treasure. I do not prefer to go at spring break because the park is pretty well infested with tourists...many of whom have no manners or trail etiquette. But, it was still a fine visit. Cold nights and sunny days make this time of year great to visit.

BYOG.....It is now legal to carry a concealed weapon in National Parks. Twenty years ago a sniper shot a father out of a raft while his daughter watched near Santa Elena Canyon. Be careful.

On January 2nd, 2019...visited park but found the place I wanted to see the most Closed with no signs posting Santa Elena Canyon closed, drove over an hour back to a road closure only 3 miles from Canyon...waste of two hours driving, would have been smart to warn people at entrance to park of the closure

It's amazing. Vast, colorful, quiet remote, rugged, clean, and diverse. Hiked both canyons, the Window, and the South Rim. We camped at Rio Grande Village which was crowded but close to a lot of good stuff, including the hot springs. The best thing was the night sky. Be advised that it does take a while to drive across the park so be wise with your itinerary. Crossing into Mexico for lunch is a good way to spend a few hours. US prices though. Walk - don't bother with the donkeys.

My response to all the 1-star reviews:

Someone was confused about no-pets. Lol! It's well known that NPs don't allow pets on trails for various reasons. You really want your dog to be bit by a snake? Guarantee that's posted on their website and at every trailhead.

Border issues: Get real. Anyone crossing there illegally is likely not dangerous. Why would a drug-runner go through a high-traffic park? Perfectly safe. Turn off the CNN once in a while.

Can't get in due to the gov shutdown: Hilarious. If it's not staffed so just go the hell in. Quit being a victim.

Too hot: duh, west Texas desert. Go back in December. If you want to hike in August, fly to Washington.

Boycotting because of "the wall:" there will never, ever be a wall through the park. Are you aware of the river?

Life-changing. March is an incredible time to go; the climate is mild and the Chisos Bluebonnets are in bloom. There were spring breakers there but even when the park staff said it was "crowded" it was totally manageable.

Very exciting park with a ton of stuff to see. Our favorite were:
- Grapevine Hills
- Emory Peak
- Santa Elena Canyon
- Lost Mine
- South Rim
I would advise you to book campground in advance because your options will be limited if you do it in person. We didn t and were very satisfied with our campsite.
Ranger are helpful except at the Chisos visitor center where I heard a ranger making fun of a guy saying he was afraid of the rain. The ranger answered there is no rain in that season . The evening of that answer it rained a lot. Maybe they need to learn how to read a forecast, especially when a visitor ask about it (pretty reckless if you ask me).

Chisos basin is the place to camp. No hookups or showers, but the setting and views are awesome. Showers apt Rio Grand Village, $2 for 5 minutes. Store has good selection but typically high prices. Gasoline prices quite competitive.

This is an awesome place to visit and explore. Something for everyone, from the novice hiker to the extreme hiker. The views are phenomenal. There's so very much to do here never seems to be enough time tho.

Drove along the Rio Grande and there were still so many things to see and do. However once up in the mountains don't expect regular cell signals, they are spotty. If you go with friends I do suggest good walkie talkies (or similar)if you separate.

Highly recommend !!
