Well worth the time and money to see! Rated a Gem by AAA, for good reasons. Attractive buildings and furnishings from the colonial and early American period, plenty of parking, great old trees changing into fall colors, well trained, helpful docents and guides at different homes and stations. We enjoyed a hearth cooking demonstration at the tavern and exploring the world of children from early America at another station. The silver display museum was dazzling. Overall, a gem, and a memorable place!
Went on a hot weekday. Almost impossible to see all the homes because of them closing around noon, or opening late. What we did see was nice.
If you're a history buff or teaching your children, this is a must visit place. The area is rich with the history of early settlers and their encounters with the Native Americans. An interesting read before your visit is "The Boy Captive of Old Deerfield" by Mary P. Smith which will make your visit even more meaningful.
Spent half a day visiting historic homes. Some homes had a tour guide; others were self-guided. Guides were very knowledgeable. Do need more time to visit - at least one whole day.
Absolute pristine colonial buildings. Beautiful little town.
We loved the attention to detail in preservation and the guides were very knowledgeable. It's a great slice of early American history. My favorite is the amazing collection of French and Indian War Powderhorns.
14 Street with old houses have been preserved. You can visit them. Very worth.
We had a great time. The tour guides were knowledgeable and interesting, the place was well maintained, and all staff were very helpful.
Beautiful and Historic collection of early American architecture.
It's a place that you spend time at and can learn a lot about the past.
We love Historic Deerfield! Make sure to hit the Inn for a meal or a night and visit the gift store, really a must do.
Very interesting place to visit ... nice book store...
Beautiful and mind blowing historical gem. The docents who give tours are very knowledgeable and generous with their time when the village is not busy. Even just an hour or two are enough to get new insights on history.
More walking than I expected, but the tours and exhibits were interesting.
Deerfield is one of my favourite places to visit. I love all of the old historic buildings and the highschool is amazing. everything is so beautiful to just walk around and look at. but if you want more of an experience then i highly recommend doing the house tours. they are so fun and interesting to do. I think it is a bit slow paced as it took us around an hour just for one house, but i dont mind that at all. I'm sure if you ask for a quick tour they will give you one :) be sure to visit the gift shop and the museum! both are so wonderful and so much to see!
This is a amazing place. Come earlier in the day so you can have plenty of time at each place. All the people are knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend it.
Great visit on a spectacular late summer day. Perfect!
Such a fun and relaxing experience. I didn't know how entertaining it would be for my 3 and 7 years old but absolutely loved it! Exploring the houses and meeting the tour guides kept their focus.
I wouldn t go out of my way to visit this cute historic village but it definitely was a good place to get out, stretch our legs, and disappear into the middle of nowhere. We came off season so there were very few people around. There s a large school upon entering the town that my family and I enjoyed walking around, oohing and ahhing at how beautiful the grounds and buildings are. There s a good short footpath that s just a little ways out of the center of the village. You get to walk past a real working farm and read about some history along the way.
Fabulous fabulous area to walk the street in the Autumn time. The docents in the houses are quite knowledgeable and willing to answer questions
Love the guided tour. Kids enjoy the history workshop that offers age appropriate activities (dress up/pretend play) and crafts.
Very authentic and peaceful in rhe evening without tourists
Fun, educational walking history area. Some self guided houses, some guided tours. Children's activities available. Multiple centuries represented. Primarily focuses on colonial history, with some mentions of indigenous peoples.
This is a wonderful place to see the history of Deerfield. A very quaint and beautiful town.
Was raining when I stopped but the 2 buildings I went into were friendly and welcoming.
Beautiful and interactive. Perfect for families looking to dig a little into American history while still entertaining the kids.
It was a beautiful day so walking to the different locations was very pleasant. We wish had the time to do more of the guided tours. There was some very interesting things to see.
beautiful historic houses. village and guided tours in the houses gives a good impression of the development that went through after the colonization.
I was here today this place is very cool nice to look at the history of deerfield
We love walking around in Old Deerfield. The houses are magnificent and they do a great job of keeping it authentic there.
Just passing through, looking forward to spending a day here. Beautiful!
Great place to travel back in time for a day. Free passes if your a Brooks Library member in Brattleboro
Wonderful and friendly people who are knowledgeable and passionate about history.
Informational and interesting; plan for a couple hours but worth the tume
First went on the tour here back in Holy Trinity School about 50 years ago! It was awesome then and the History was indelible! You owe it to yourself to check Old Deerfield out!
This was very disappointing. Your paying to get 35 minute guided tours. They go every hour, except at lunch time. Was interesting, but really not worth the money. The 4 houses with guided tours are at either end of the street from the visitors center. Not noted that 2 houses to the north are 10 minute walk away, the two to the south will now be 20 minute walk back the other way. 2 self guided homes. Gift shop was nice. Was going to ask for my money back, but my husband would not let me. Please just drive to the gift shop n see the self guided tour. Don t know if they would notice if you had the band on for the guided tour. We were not asked to show the band. So what are you paying for?
I loved it here. Lovely architecture. Wonderful history.
Price to access all buildings. Arrived late and nice walking village.
Website/Facebook shows innaccurate info right now. They are not open. It is still beautiful and a nice walk but you cant go in any buildings. The gift shop is open to relieve you of your money lol..there is a restaraunt on site and that was open and seemed busy. We will def take a trip when we are done w the covid craziness..
Great people doing a great job. Wonderful day ( or two) full of history and relaxation.
Our 4th visit from the UK to this historic street and still love it. Visited the Museum for the first time today and it is recommended that you don't just pass this attraction by. Its a wonderful collection of American history. Free to enter but donations welcome.
Great make sure you leave plenty of time to see it all.
Great place to wander aimless and visit some old homes. Very peaceful.
Lovely, very family friendly, the people verry nice!!
Wonderful historical displays, plan to spend lots of time!
The house tour guides were exceptional. We spent a rainy day here and had a good time.
Beautiful part of New England with history, an award winning inn and variety of activities. Unique!
A not-to-be-missed historic place. Please allow at least 1 day, if not 2 days, to see/experience everything that is here.
A wonderful and authentic field trip experience that is tailored to for all ages.
Great historic village. Great for kids and families or history lovers. Make sure to check out the old burial grounds before you leave
Tghis is a gorgeous place for a lot of fun items and very. Upscale items as well and the couple that was there was very friendly especially. Mark the cashier please go
It is almost unbelievable that so many of the oldest buildings here were frontier homes and were raided by native Americans.
So beautiful. Wish we had time to see every house. The museum and interactive workshop were excellent.
Great collection of Colonial houses and an interactive museum
Beautiful depiction of historical New England. Amazing that the community fits into this beautiful village. The guided tours through some of these homes add so much interesting information to these beautiful homes. Plan to spend the day to see everything.
Very interesting. Good interpreters at each building.
A very beautiful country the falls are the same as in 1750/1800. The fantastic green with the squirrels that pass by you.
If you like history a must place to visit. The guides that lead tours in some of the homes give family history. As well as history of many items in the home. Time well spent and very enjoyable.
nice street to stroll in the fall and do some photography. this was a quick visit so we didn't tour the homes. next time.
Really wonderful place. Beautiful houses in a charming old New England town. Best visited in the fall. House guides are really knowledgeable. Also take time to explore the area it's a beautiful part of Massachusetts.
Excellent place to take the family. The staff are knowledgeable and will answer questions. The family center, with it's games and projects, was a huge hit with our boys. Be prepared to walk and climb stairs. Also consider that not all houses are handicapped or stroller accessible.
Beautiful scenery nd views along with some really unique history.
My husband and I did the tour of the old houses recently. We both loved it. So much history here. The guides were all very nice and full of knowledge. Yes, there is walking involved but I tried to feel what it was like years ago. It is so worth it.
The most wonderful historic town especially on a perfect fall day
This place was charming! The tours were kept short and make me want to return. It still has its original charm because these houses are beautifully maintained.
Historic Old Deerfield, in/near/at Deerfield, MA is a MUST SEE for any early American history buff or early American colonial architecture enthusiast. One of New England's many gems.
Interesting little town like center... don't think it costs anything
It's a great place to visit and to take a tour and see the old houses and school.u get to learn a lot from the tour.
Stunningly beautiful place especially in the fall as many houses had Halloween decorations outside when we visited.
This is a really neat place. A mix of public and private homes as well as two private schools and an Inn preserve this slice of old New England. There is a working farm as well as guided tours of the beautiful old homes. If you want to see what an old New England town looked like back in the day, this is the place.
If you enjoy historic houses, you will love this place. Some houses have guided tours, and the guides are quite knowledgeable. Others are self-guided with a docent near the entrance. There is a nice gift shop opposite the Visitors Center. I only had a few hours to spend and therefore didn't get to see the entire street. I will go back. If you are into old graveyards, do visit this one. It's at the end of a side street, ask for directions.
