My mother had to undergo three emergency brain surgeries. We usually have morbid experiences at medical centers and hospitals so I made sure she was sent into Boston. She was assigned to Dr. Vega s team and I couldn t be anymore thankful. We didn t know for awhile how the future looked. Her surgeon himself, Dr. Vega made sure WE KNEW that he was going to remain involved. He followed up with her personally on numerous occasions and really put me at ease through this entire process. He saved her life and I am forever grateful. Both himself and his team are all wonderful. We had really good experiences with the individuals who work on the neuro floors, both ICU intermediate and intensive, as well as floor 11. Thank you all so much for everything that you do. You are appreciated!!!! You deserve everything good out of this world!!

Those nurses in emergency room are terrible! If you have mental health emergency, don t go there, they don t care about your feelings! They need to learn how to treat people with respect and patience!

I happened to be recommended to BIDMC by a doctor who comes here (ACK) every so often for patient visits. Dr Horst, after I told him about my issues/experience with MGH, that I was looking to have my gallbladder removed elsewhere. Dr Doug Horst recommended BIDMC & Dr Critchlow. After going thru the whole process of pre appointments, esophageal stent changes, etc.. I was pleased by Dr Critchlow & the effort he put in to make sure that the gallbladder was out & the area was clean. In the future, if I need a shoulder fix, knee fix, etc I think I ll be taking myself to Beth Israel for my medical needs.

Horrible. A family member's disability relegated them to MasssHeath insurance. The Beth Israel Deaconess HealthCare - Dedham/Westwood Family Medicine does not accept any MassHealth plans so she had to switch PCPs to a different practice, miss her surgery, and go through weeks of tests and pre-surgery procedures all over again before she could schedule the surgery. Apparently they think they're too good to treat massHealth patients.

This place saved my life and did it in a caring, professional, and respectful way. I always felt truly cared for and felt that I could ask anything and have it answered by their entire staff. Everyone was amazing and I would recommend them to eveyone.

Donna Seger Kilroy "wrote they basically murdered my father and got away with it" .. they did the same to my mom. Completely incompetent Harvard trained Clinicians.. not a single Dr. could make a blatant diagnosis. My mom was also abused by a nurse , verbally and possibly physically, a complaint was filed a record which disappeared upon legal review. Within 24 hours of that abuse... mom was in a coma.

I come here to demonstrate my dissatisfaction with the hospital. To start with my first appointment with the doctor, I arrived at the hospital for the first time, and since I did not know the hospital, I went to the reception for help and felt offended by a lady, whom I asked a question she looked into my face and turned back to me without even answering me, but there was another young girl who laughed at the situation but gave me information. I had my appointment with the doctor she asked me to do the ultrasound and make a new appointment after. I went to do the ultrasound, in the middle of the ultrasound the woman who was doing the ultrasound asked me to leave and left the room, and another doctor came laughing and making a joke, and soon after gave me the news that the baby's heart had stopped, talked a little to me and simply told me that there was nothing to do and that it was for me to make an appointment with my obstetrician to decide what to do. I checked the appointment with the doctor and after much conversation we decided to do the curettage procedure that was done the same day in the office. So far so good. About 6 weeks after the procedure I started to bleed much more than normal, I contacted the hospital again to make an emergency appointment with the doctor, they said that I was not able to locate the doctor, and they simply informed me that it was normal and that it could be my menstruation and that it was normal for the first menstruation to come unregulated. It turned out that in the end I went to another hospital that gave me a giant assitence and detected remains of placenta and the fetus in my belly and detected infection in the uterus. In other words, I almost lost my life! Be careful Guys...

For health reasons, I've been coming here for about a little over a year. I've been in both the Arnold Pain Center (1st FL) and the Pain Management (4th FL). All the assistants, doctors, and receptionists have been so sweet and kind. Granted anything can happen on a daily basis, every encounter I've had have been very wonderful, very helpful, and very friendly. Like any normal person, treat them with respect and you'll get respect. I'll have to continue coming here regardless of my crazy long commute but I have found the doctors helpful.

I was there in '88. It was one of the finest run hospitals I've ever seen. As the son of a doctor, and traveled the world, seen and worked in many hospitals, my impression was top notch. Totally professional. Excellent.

I am a "ten year out" osteosarcoma survivor. The Doctors were able to save my leg and although the chemo wasn't pleasant, I was always treated with the utmost care and concern. Thanks, BIDMIC!

The service I received at the BIDMC was good, however I ran into problems with their billing department that I wanted to make prospective patients aware of.

The BIDMC forwarded my bill after 3 months of non-payment to a debt collector having only sent me a single bill in the mail. The debt collectors, Peter Roberts & Associates, only take payment through the mail, which isn't the safest practice. Furthermore, after your debt is forwarded to Peter Roberts & Associates, the BIDMC refuses to take payment unless you are extremely insistent like myself.

The takeaway here is heaven forbid your mail get lost you are put in a very difficult, and financially tricky situation thanks to the BIDMC. If you are put in this situation call the BIDMC and insist on paying them directly, and letting them deal with their debt collectors themselves.

Abysmal continuity of care results in frightening errors and omissions. Pleasant and experienced nursing and auxiliary staff, quite decent food. Useless pt. Advocates. Overall, poor medical organization and NONEXISTENT patient centered care planning. Bizarre hospital "attending" scheduling includes some vrry inexperienced physicians.

If I could give this place a ZERO I definitely would. I went there for a herniated disk, literally could not walk, left me for hours on a cot in front of a person who was clearly having psych issues, then eventually medicated me with the usual narcotics, and sent me home at 1am, without an exam and paperwork that did not tell the truth.

If I could give this place a negative 5 I would! The Drs here are vindictive. Don't report them, they will take it out on the patient for their mess ups. I will not allow my husband to come back here again!

I took my mother to do the colonoscopy today, and I told him I couldn't speak English. His face turned black all at once. I'd like to say that if you don't speak English, they don't welcome you to their hospital.

My husband had an appendicitis. It was diagnosed by his primary care physician and catscan and everything. His primary care practice office is associate with Beth Israel so we can to ER for surgery. It took 7 hours before they operate even though all necessary test were done in advance. His surgeon came to talk to me and then left at3 am. A doctor never came to check on him, nurse overdosed his pain medication and he was severely nauseated. Had to give him 2 medications to stop the throwing up. They were supposed to transfer us to a private room 1-2h after surgery but never bothered. Poor management - it was explained to us that they are understaffed!!!! After it was apparent he was not well enough and needs to remain under observation they transferred us to a private room only to find that it s a shared room. His roommate is older man with hearth failure and severe infection. It is awful, horrific experience - we will never come here again. Our health insurance is really good and covers a private room. We have small kids and I had 2c-sections so plenty of ER visits. Been to to mgh, children s hospital and Newton Wellesley and we never had such a bad experience nor had to share a room. Really really poor management. There has been no doctor that checked on my husband since his surgery - just the nurse.

My mom Cynthia Huggens begged me to join her here ...

My mom Cynthia Huggens begged me to join her here for Tracheal Resection. Bringing her to this place in the end was the wrong choice. 4 years after her surgery here, instead of receiving the restoration she thought she would be blessed with - She was given a Tracheostomy, lost her voice, taste and sense of smell and died on October 29, 2018 from an aortic fistula discovered by our own private autopsy... All hospitals LIED to us saying a fistula wasn t present when we suggested it. The fistula was present at the surgery site completed by Dr. G. The local hospitals hid this from us and did nothing. I wish we never discovered You so that she would retain her former decent health, too much was taken from the resection, and instead of a blessing, a time limit was placed on her life from that point on. My mom bled into her lungs in front of me in my brother's arms struggling to stay alive for 30 minutes, 5 minutes too late for the EMT. Not one person from every hospital has reached out Even now

Worst service. My wife is pregnant, she made 2 appointments for her OBGYN and doctor and both time she came, they said the doctor s names were not correct and there were no appointments which mean she could not see any doctors! They ask her to come back next week which is third attempt despite the fact that she is pregnant. No help from reprensentative.

This hospital I can actually say is the worst hospital I ever been to. The first incident was when i had my first child my wife wanted to have the baby regularly, we went to every appointment checking the size of the baby when her water broke we went in on a Friday it turned out to be a 48hr labor because the baby was bigger than they thought so we didn't get out the hospital till next Thursday because the smartest doctor there came in after 38 hours and said she suffered enough. Second incident is a situation I'm going through now my sister has diabetes she has had incidents here and there but nothing major numbers too high or too low the usual but this time we went it they over medicated her now she is having shaking episodes in her sleep where she takes a while to come out of this violent shaking and we took her off that drug now the shaking stopped but now she has a speech impediment and other issues it seems like they were trying other ways to see what the outcome would be I suggest you go somewhere else. There should be actions taking if a doctor destroys lives I understand we all take risk but I suggest put your faith in another hospital because this one is not dependable

Absolute fraud! I received a $350 bill for a 5 minute new patient visit, when I was told there that it wouldn't cost anything. The doctor (Dr. Sudipta Mohanty, AVOID AT ALL COSTS) told me on the way out that I didn't need to provide any insurance to the front desk, since it was a very brief visit. I asked him to clarify, and he said I wouldn't be charged. I took him at his word, and I left like he said.

The real kicker is that I have good insurance, which would've been a low, if any, copay. Instead, they keep insisting that I owe them $350 ($250 for the 5 minutes and an additional $100 for a hospital surcharge) and they have the same useless, scripted reply about the $350 being my responsibility due to documents I signed, etc., etc. This happens over and over every time I contact them!

I would rather go without medical care than deal with these crooks! They should be in jail.

Horrible experience with getting lab work done. Should have taken 5 minutes but was there for over an hour because the phlebotomist and front desk and intake can t communicate. Waste of time for something so simple. If they can t figure out getting something as simple as blood work then I will not trust them with anything more complicated.

The phlebotomist, Lea Ingersol, was rude, dismissive and unprofessional. She should not be working in a patient facing capacity.

This hospital is fabulous. My mom had her aorta valve replaced and staff were extremely accommodating; asking if she needed a blanket, was she comfortable, etc. When she stayed two nights afterwards, the nurses and doctors on the floor were wonderful; answered all her questions. Doctors adjusted her medications and she feels so much better since surgery. I'd highly recommend this hospital especially if you have a heart condition. Thank you BI Boston.

They claim patient's are first , yes if you have great insurance, unfortunately you will not get the care that should be expected for mass health and medicare by far the most discriminatory hospital I've been in, Sit in the ER waiting are and watch the the mass health patients be pushed off for the better insured, I really dont understand how no one has picked up on this the staff makes it clear, mass health patients in the hallway to be seen, Please explain not to me but to the Governor how your care given isn't prejudice to insurance holders........

I was admitted to BI for Neurological disorder which was never diagnosed and upon discharge got a see ya in 6 months goodbye. The entire time I was there I felt like I was more a display tool for their students and never got any time or diagnosis from a doctor! I am now following up with a different hospital and doctors to get a proper diagnosis and not be put on display for a class of medical students

The worst hospital I've ever been seen at. When I was pregnant, the OB forgot to send my blood in for crucial lab tests (by the time I figured it out, it was too late to resend), impossible to schedule appointment with my PCP (13 + months wait list), allergist literally yelled at me when I couldn't remember something (I was holding my 3 week old baby and was suffering from a 104 fever and allergy to antibiotics to treat mastitis), and after transferring hospitals - have had to spend over six hours of phone calls and filling out forms to receive my records. My new doctor and I have sent request four times: still haven't received records.). There are plenty of amazing hospitals in the Boston area - don't go to this one.

Clean, very well maintained hospital. Lots of plants and places to sit. Located in heart of boston with a nice parking garage w wide parking spots. Good for trucks

Came to Beth Israel with husband who was in Severe shoulder pain. He was put in the hallway, and did not give him and pain meds until 2.5 hours after getting there. My husband was in tears, shaking, and was just in unbearable pain. They did nothing for him and sent him home just like that with his pain not even being controlled. We ended up going to another ER where they cared and controlled his pain and did an MRI. Waiting on those results because if something comes out negative on those results, Beth Israel will be hearing from my lawyer!

This hospital does not value its employees which directly effects patient care. Quick expansion compromised patient care and safety. Not only would I not recommend getting care here I certainly would not recommend working here. Favoritism, competition, poor training and lack of psychosocial support are just a few problems plaguing this once great medical center.

several years ago I was pleased with the quality of services, however, after two years ago I was diagnosed with polycythemia, my opinion changed. To date, this hospital is nothing more than a huge machine for collecting insurance money. they try to make you as many appointments as you can for months. they prescribe medication without considering side effects. they do not care about the side effects of prescribed medications and do not treat them. try to redirect you to another doctor if you have any side effects. with any complaint of pain or a bad mood, they try to get you to take antidepressants. you wait for help for months but don t get it. they teach students to write articles and do research but don t treat you. you are just the training body that they observe and show to students. for the year during which I experience pain and a quick frightening change in vision, I received no answer why this was happening or an attempt to correct my condition. unfortunately I have nowhere else to go with my diagnosis
07.18.20 I came to urgent help with pain in the right joint which I had previously complained to the therapist, but he ignored it. after the X-ray I was told that they would give a referral and that I would make an appointment with a rheumatologist. now attention. I was scheduled to visit on September 18th! after referrals from urgent help! in the presence of pain !. I am still in pain and I am still waiting. at the same time they told me that I should go to the therapist again and say that my joint hurts! how do you think this circle?
more. I am taking medication for a blood disease that raises cholesterol. I several times asked a gematologist to do a cholesterol test. moreover, I talked with the therapist three times and complained about feeling unwell and he also did not do a cholesterol test. I ended up with a cardiologist with a bad cardiogram and only finally found that cholesterol was very high. and after that I was again told to go to the therapist. for six months of my visits, no activity has been done to improve my well-being until today, except for endless redirects from one doctor to another

I was told by them I was covered for physical therapy. They did not tell me that meant it would apply to deductible, which isn't my definition of covered. It took about 5 sessions before I started seeing any bills, and was stuck paying about $200 each for these half hour sessions, for which I doubt they paid more than $50. They've lost my respect and my business.

So different than our first time, when medical care was topnotch, everyone you dealt with felt like part of the team trying to help you through a difficult time and make it as painless as possible. Everyone doing their jobs. Grateful to them always for what they did 17 years ago for my husband.

Excellent experience, I spent 10 days here after being med flighted from Cape cod Dr.s saved my life and care from nurse's & staff was excellent. Nurse's went out of their way to make me comfortable,(Thank you Nurse Megan & all the others) most food was good especially breakfast & well above other hospitals in the Boston area.
Everyone who has complaints here may have had 1 bad experience. Give them a break & another shot

My dad was in the hospital for 2 1/2 week I live in North Carolina and I usually come home when he goes in the hospital. This time I didnt come because of my husband medical situation. My brother and sister were at the hospital everyday
And had to keep getting on the nurses about washing my dad and getting him out the bed. It was a real struggle. The nurses even told them they will do it when they get ready. I know they are right because when he was there before, i was at the hospital every morning and i had to keep getting on them. Now he was transported to rehabilitation center and they call me to tell me dad has bed sores. It is so very sad that they didnt do their job. That family have to stay at the hospital to make sure they do their job. Something needs to be done about the treatment the patient are getting at this hospital.
I will fly in next time he is there. This very stressful on the family something got to be done.

I went there for getting varicella vaccine after booking an appointment on call.
When I reached there, I was told that I will have to undergo a regular screening before they could give me the vaccine. I asked if this would be billed to me and the receptionist said that it is a mandatory requirement for vaccine and hence I will not be billed. For this, they took me to a specialist which was weird because I was only here for a vaccine. And after 5 minutes of consultation, I was given a go ahead for the vaccine. When I went to the nurse for the vaccine, I was told that they do not have the vaccine and I need to come some other day. I was furious as I was in school and had made a prior appointment before going. Anyway, I did not have a choice and came after a week to get my vaccine.
Now, after few months I get a bill at my dorm for the initial screen which I was told would not be charged. They billed it as my annual preventive check-up. I was shocked, first of all I was never told it was an annual check up, secondly since when did 5 min question and answer count as annual checkup, thirdly I had already completed my annual check-up (a legit one). There was no way I would pay this illegitimate fee of USD 350. I wrote to them multiple times to dispute the claim but it was never resolved. I got one call from the Doctor's office and the caller was super rude and said that I have to pay this fee. I told her to connect me to her manager and she bluntly said that the manager would have the same answer and disconnected the call. After this incident, I reached out to them multiple times on mail but no response. Now, they have sent my bill to collections and I am being harassed to pay for a service I never knew I was provided. All this looks like a fraud. They made me come twice so that they could bill me for a screening one day since my vaccine was covered by my insurance they could not have extracted the money any other way.

Too bad it's not possible to give less than one star...

I've repeatedly had absolutely horrible service at Beth Israel. It took over a month, during which six or more phone calls were made without one return call, while all I was requesting was the name and number of a wrist specialist. One name and number seems to be too much for this practice to handle. If you're looking for a primary care provider, I suggest looking elsewhere.

I have been a patient of Healthcare Associates for 3 years and am pleased with my Primary Care physician. I will emphasize, my physician is excellent when I see her. The problem is I can never see my primary care when I have a medical need. It seems I can only see my PC for well visits. Today I called with a medical issue at 8:35 AM and as of 12:34 PM today, I have yet to receive a call back. My request was for a order for a lab test to confirm an infection. I finally called back to ask if I could please get a response and was told the nurses are in a mandatory meeting and cannot be disturbed. I find it troubling that patients in need of assistance are not the primary concern. I was told that my doctor was not in the office today, but just learned that she is. I have now been told that she will call me after she sees two more patients and reviews my record, at least another hour while my infection festers. I a wonder why we need a PC if they are available only for well visits. Healthcare Associates needs to address this problem. The administration is the problem.

I was abused on a regular basis behind closed doors by my former physician here, John Doweiko. What was done to me was absolutely unacceptable, and I was a woman alone at the time in my life. I believe this was the reason for what I was put through.
I was a completely innocent patient.
I brought the situation to the attention of the hospital President Peter Healy by letter, and was blown off.
I asked many people here for help in person, by phone and in writing, and found no one to care about anything but their vacations.
It is very disappointing to say the least, that this hospital which was once known for excellent patient care has become run by someone so unsafe and arrogant.
All of the people involved or who ignored what was done to me should be fired immediately.
Make sure you bring someone with you if you go to this hospital because there is no accountability anywhere.

Emergency staff at night (nurses) are extremely rude, insensitive and racist. Please try to avoid going there if you want to be treated like a human. Unbelievable how such well established healthcare facilities treat you with disrespect and no compassion at all.

I recently found out that a friend of mine was being treated at Beth Israel and was staying there. I went to visit her but did not have her room number. Since she was staying in the psychiatric dept, I was informed by the receptionist that unless I had her room or floor number I could not see her. She said I should try to call someone to get that info. I was unable to reach anyone who had that info. I called the hospital's patient services dept and tried to get in touch with my friend thru that means. When I reached the physciatric dept and asked to speak with her (I gave them her name and my name) they put me on hold. After being put on hold, the nurse got back on the phone and said I can neither confirm nor deny that I have a patient with that name here. They wouldn't even let me leave my phone num because apparently that would confirm that a patient with my friend's name was there. I was unable to reach my friend and had to leave after nearly an hour of trying to contact her. I had to travel nearly an hour to get there and another hour back and it was a disappointing waste of time. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone.

I had a laminectomy September 8 was in post op from 1030 a until 630p waiting for a room. I was scheduled months before for procedure. Postop only had crackers hadn't eaten since the day before. When I got to room kitchen was closed. That is unacceptable. I had nurses that I had to ring buzzer 4 times so I could get up to go to the bathroom. One nurse was so pissy w me. I had an iv and it hurt she took it out and never put a new one in. I had only a few good nurses. I now have a call into my Drs office since 115p and it is 351p and no nurse to call back. Unacceptable!

Tonight after being in the hospital after 10 hours...

Tonight after being in the hospital after 10 hours waiting for my mom to come out of surgery I experienced the worst treatment from RN Susan Fontes Nurse on the 3rd floor of the feldberg building GI recovery unit.. Susan was absolutely rude condescending belittling discriminated against myself and my siblings she talked to us as though we were dogs I think she would ve treated her dogs better than the way she treated us. She yelled at us in front of her colleagues patients and their family. She humiliated us made us feel so small like we were nothing. I would never recommend anyone to be treated by her especially a person of color.. maybe if we were white we would have received better treatment. She made my mother cry after a long surgery what kind nurse treats people like that. Mind she didn t offer my pregnant sister a chair while other family members were sitting comfortably in their chairs oh because my duster didn t disclose her condition. So to get a chair at Beth Isreal hospital according to Susan you have disclose your medical condition.

Billing nightmare! My wife's OBGYN is affiliated with the hospital. So she sent us there for ultrasounds etc. during her latest pregnancy. Someone put an incorrect address on file for us so we never received bills from them that ended in collections.

Collection agencies were able to track us down and I was baffled by BIDMC's lack of due diligence to begin with (even though other departments, our OBGYN had the correct address - we filled out a ton of paperwork every single time we went there). It boils down to every department using a different billing service.

Never had this happen before - so make sure the information they have on file for you is correct

Always professional, clinicians make you feel welcome and like they are caring for one of their family members. They truly put their patients first. Had both of my children there, have my primary care and several other specialty MDs there as well.

Do Not go to the Braintree Location of this hospital. No one cares about the patient and when a Dr. leaves you are left high and dry, with no medication and no way to fill the script. They cancel your appointments when the Dr. Leaves, they tell you to call for a new appt. but in the mean time you have no way to get your scripts. I know one person who has ended up in the hospital because of this policy in the Braintree location. DO NOT GO THERE!!!! I do not give this place even 1 star!!!!
