This was my first hotel experience since COVID-19 ...

This was my first hotel experience since COVID-19 began and I believe it is important to write this review to help others decide where to stay during these hard times. I honestly did not know what to expect as far as how business was running for hotels. I booked through Booking.com and immediately started to receive text messages from The Salem Inn. Every text was detailed description on how "contactless" my experience would be, where to park, where my room would be, and the codes for my room access, and finally, the code to the main entrance for after hours. If I had any questions, these text messages answered them all. For those that really want to know, a mask is required when walking around the common areas of the hotel. Breakfast, I saw everyone wearing a mask until you are seated of course. While I am on the topic of breakfast, if it is a beautiful morning, sitting outside in the courtyard was so lovely! Very peaceful! The staff was amazing. I had to book contactless on a site called opentable. I was required to do this the night before, and the next day, they didn't receive my reservation. The staff was extremely polite, told me not to worry, asked me what I wanted and showed me to my seat. Superb service, and I believe without such service, I would be writing a 4 star review but the staff indeed earned these 5 stars from me. The room was beautiful and very clean. I stayed in a room that had a Jacuzzi which added to the relaxation I wanted. There are cute birds in the lobby, some awesome Salem, MA postcards, and if you feel like adventuring around the halls they have bookshelves for anything that might catch your eye if you like to read. Also, if you're as lucky as I was, you'll hear a cat roaming the halls. I can assure you, there is no cat in the building. I love Salem! I will be booking here again for my next weekend adventure in Salem.

Everyone was very friendly and helpful. My room was incredible and comfortable. The breakfast was much more than I could ever have expected. Loved the fact I was so close to everything since I was on foot.

Everything was awesome, the room was super spacious and my partner and I really enjoyed our stay! We loved the old fashion energy of the room and thought it was very cool and unique. The spa tub is also super cool and very relaxing. Only bad thing is that the WiFi doesn t work the best but that isn t a huge problem. Hotel parking was also super close to the hotel.

Manager was the grouchiest lady I have ever spoken to in the service industry. My wife and I showed up the day of and had an issue. The employee at the front desk was very sweet and took handled things in a prompt manner and informed us we would have a refund on our reservation. The manager is now denying this ever occurred and was rude on the phone. I would never advise to stay here with this mean manager calling the shots. I am always willing to write good reviews for good service, but this is not one of those times. The manager has no sense of dealing with customers.

In my opinion, this is how it went... First, we were assigned a room on the 3rd floor... 2 flights up with our dog. Staff never asked if we would like help bringing our belongings up to our room. We were never informed about breakfast in the basement and wine cheese in the early evening. There was NO ONSITE PARKING! And there is no area outside of their premises for dogs to relieve themselves, yet, they are pet friendly, seriously??? And being on the 3rd floor of a very old building with small, slanted stairs two flights up with a dog, in my opinion, is just not right!!! They do not tell you in advance what floor your room is on. I complained and then we were moved to a small little room with a high rise queen size bed, no fireplace and a loveseat that when sat on, the cushions sunk to the ground. The room was very cold. Again, I complained and then was offered a room in back of the office. NOISY TO THE MAX!! My husband talked to the manager on Monday and asked if we could shorten our stay by one night because we were not happy with having to move three times. SHE CLEARLY SAID NO ! In my opinion, paying $219/night for a cold and drafty place is a TOTAL RIPOFF! We were not refunded our payment for the last night. What a way to start the New Year!! In my opinion, please ... anyone who is thinking of staying at this Inn, read this REVIEW!!!!
