Stayed at the Peabody house, was a very nice stay, and was able to get a suite which was nice, as traveling with a small child, having a room for them.to sleep while adults are awake is very helpful.

Local to just about everything, and very nice staff. Very clean, spacious, and home like as can be expected.

Attentive, friendly service, comfortable, relaxing rooms (we had the family suite), superb amenities including breakfast and wine and cheese in late afternoon, these are just some of the reasons we're planning a return.

Loved spending my honeymoon here. Its right by all the Salem attractions. Quiet at night. They were able to make changes to my accommodation when i screwed up. Far superior to the other hotel we stayed in while in Boston.

Great place to stay. Near everything. Walking in Salem is so nice and this isn't far from the commuter ferry to take to boston. Breakfast was great and the staff and room was very nice! Would definitely stay here again!

Great location for historic downtown. Price was high for what was included in the too. Which includes a double bed, and a t.v. No options for room service or vending machines at the corwin house, there is also a walk to the complementary breakfast.

Actually this is 3 houses. Stayed in Curwen House. Great location, central but quiet. Off street parking. Large room, well equipped and decorated. Really enjoyed the atmosphere.
Problem was the bed: So soft and bouncy I preferred sleeping on the floor.

Lovely hotel, full of character. The beds were very comfortable, and the bathrooms were very clean and well-appointed. Very convenient location in walking distance of all of Salem's attractions we were interested in. And breakfast in the basement/garden room was excellent. Highly recommended.

Beautiful inn with lots of history. This is the second time we stayed. Our first visit, I got to experience a ghost! This time was slightly less 'interesting' but still lovely. The beds are very comfortable too!

Totally disrespected immediately as I walked in to cancel my room due to my business trip ending early. They will not allow any cancellations and for $240.00 a night this place is creepy. Guess it's OK if you want to stay in what looks like a haunted house. I assume that is the cancellation policy due to the number of cancellations they probably receive, if they didn't have that policy they probably would not make any money. Parking is ridiculous and the lot is a block away at their "other property ". So please stay away I warn you!!!!

Awesome place to stay if you're visiting Salem. The location is right near everything historical you might want to see and the staff was amazing. They have free breakfast and free wine and cheese in the afternoons! I will definitely stay there again next time I visit.

Booked a two night stay. Thought we were gonna be in the hotel but we were put in another property called the curwenhouse. They apparently own other renovated properties nearby that function as hotels. A little like a B&B. First off, your isolated from the main hotel. We had no microwave or mini refrigerator in our room, nor an ironing board and iron. We had to climb up and down three flights of very steep and narrow stairs. Their was no elevator so you have to lug your stuff up these steep steps. Housekeeping service was very slow. We requested only fresh towels and wash cloths but never got them. We had to walk back to the main hotel about a block away to get our free breakfast in the morning. The internet signal was very weak on the third floor. Parking is VERY limited, albeit you have a private lot only for hotel guest. If you do not book your stay and insist that you stay in the main hotel you could end up blocks away from the Salem Inn. We felt very isolated. On the plus side. It was very quite. The staff was polite and helpful. Just lacking some of the amenities of a bigger chain name hotel.

Where to start? Ok I'll give the ONE compliment I have from the entire experience, the young lady at check in was fabulous, polite and well knowledged on the surrounding area. As for the rest, it was an utter disaster. We arrived at 9pm, promptly checked in and went to our room. We unlocked the door (room 15) and the door was stuck. It took several strong attempts to finally break through. The room was aesthetically pleasing but non functional from start to finish.

The loudest hot tub on the planet in a facility that makes it feel disruptive to the rest of the guests (which made me not want to put on the jets). When I drained it, again, the loudest sound made me cringe. A sign on the nightstand said not to use the AC, which the fan option didnt work anyway.

Hot, humid and stuffy. This lead to us opening a window to alleviate the situation, which lead to a startling wake up by a parade of harleys echoing through Summer Street. The dresser drawers are impossible to open and close easily. The toilet had been hard to flush since the night before but in the morning we cared more as it wouldn't flush at all.

After all this, finding a single person in the building to help was close to impossible. Downstairs, left a note, called twice from my cell, went back upstairs, called twice and on the third attempt I reached someone. A teenager was sent up, couldn't open the door without several attempts and my help from the other side (FIRE HAZARD).

A second lady came up with a small child and proceeded to ask us what the issues were. She said "Oh the door sticks, not making excuses" and "oh that note about the AC shouldn't be here, its house keepings fault, not making excuses"... Oh the toilet "someone must have flushed something down the toilet before you, not making excuses." The adult woman in the equation then had the teenage girl plunge the toilet. We both found this inappropriate, as we couldn't tell if she was even a paid hotel employee or just this older womans daughter.

To top it all off, they had a large bird cage by check in with 3 small finches, the cage, but especially the water was green and disgustingly stagnant with feces. We mentioned it twice and it was dismissed twice.

4 star accommodations... NOT!! $280 to have the worst night away from home. I could have gone to an EconoLodge for $80 and had a better night of rest and relaxation. We left feeling disgusted and ripped off.

Edit: changed to 2 stars from 1 because we got a full refund $$ The owner was horrified.

Recently stayed at the Curwen House... I wish the room resembled the picture posted. We had no housekeeping service, an empty tissue box on arrival and no hand pulls on the wall when coming out of the whirlpool. There were some dead bugs behind the bed ( lack of cleaning). Housekeeping is much to be desired. There were two glasses from guests taking advantage of the sherry available in the Parlor two days later those dirty glasses were still there and the sherry decanter sticky as anything so we definitely passed on that amenity : ( We placed an mint in one of the glasses so we know they weren't moved.... Each evening we came back to the house and upon arrival we had smokers sitting outside on the step with no courtesy to move to allow us to enter the building. We did have individual air control in the room and I will tell you the room was warm not cool at all. The canopy over the bed ripped. I have stayed in Salem many times, our future stays will not be at any of the buildings attached to the Salem Inn ... so sad the owners and management should visit their properties often to assure what they are offering is in fact what is offered. Very disappointed.

Had an amazing stay at this historical and beautiful, yet hauntingly oppressive Inn. Room was perfectly appointed, with a king size bed and attached sitting room also a wonderful large bathroom with jaccuzzi tub. Perfect for a romantic getaway! However, you may never feel quite alone in your room, and even moreso in the halls as this hotel definitely has some history!! But if you're going to Salem, it is just the kind of feel and history you need when also touring the Witch House, graveyards and more!!

This hotel totally fits in the Salem ambience, it's super quiet, the wooden floors squeak at night, the furniture is completely beautiful Victorian style, very oddly, but totally awesome, the bathroom is made for a very modern day king, it's almost as big as the room itself and everything is elegant and high tech, you never really see other hotel guests because it's designed more like a frat house than a hotel, it's still Massachusetts, so you'll never have the grandeur of Texas, but you can really appreciate this hotel for what it is, quaint but still elegant,

My family and I have stayed here every year for the past 6 years. We love it here! Its comfortable, clean, and close to most of the attractions that Salem offers. The staff is outstanding and makes you very comfortable. They are knowledgeable about their city and can direct you to whatever you may need. They are ALWAYS friendly. The complimentary breakfast is always great and just an added bonus to staying at the Salem Inn.

Really enjoyed our stay at The Salem Inn. Can't thank the staff enough for their friendliness, assistance on what to do around the town, and just making it an overall great experience.

The breakfast was an incredible addition at zero cost. It was so nice to just wake up and know there was fresh coffee, tea, bagels, an omelet station (thanks Diane - sorry if I didn't spell your name correctly). She was so welcoming in the mornings at breakfast and always asked if I'd like an omelet, and to just get situated and relaxed and she'd take care of the rest.

This best thing about this place is location. You are right next to the witch house, literally. The town full of shops and fun activities starts the second you walk out of the front door of the Salem Inn. Just follow the red lines which show you touristy areas, and you're in the heart of it all!

The rooms are perfect for what you'd want. Wood floors, everything is clean, AC is great! We stayed in room 17, the haunted room. We did not experience anything but we felt comfortable in it, as if some presence was there watching over us.

The only scary thing in our room was the lack of internet connection - but that isn't nearly enough of a concern to give less stars. Plus the staff told me it never happens, so I believe it was just an issue with the week we had... or it was the room :)

You'll love your stay here at Salem Inn.

We stayed in the Corwen House, one of three properties that make up the Salem Inn. Our room was very clean and the service was great. As it stands now there a a few little things that stop me from giving more stars because of the price point and amenities you would expect at this level. A full size ironing board for one. We would have liked a small table in the bathroom rather than a TV tray and small fridge wouldn't go amiss either. They are renovating and I'm sure these will be addressed in the future. We will be coming to Salem next year and will most likely return to the Salem Inn, though we would rather stay in the brick home. If you want to walk to all attractions, then the Salem Inn is the place to stay.

It was a nice, comfortable stay. I went in the off-season, so I got a got a really good deal. The addition of a box of chocolate with my room was a lovely touch. As I'd suspected, they went with the Salem-based Harbor Sweets. I was in the Curwen House, a beautiful old building, conveniently situated close to downtown and the commuter rail. I saw other reviews with complaints about the wifi speeds that I didn't see, but I don't know if being there off-season meant fewer guests and devices competing for a signal. The room itself was cozy, but I mostly used it for sleeping, relaxing before bed, and quick breaks before going back out during the day. The wingback chairs were a comfortable place to sit and knit, or play on my laptop in the morning while enjoying a coffee before I headed out to breakfast. While it wasn't ideal to head out to another site for the breakfast, the room itself made up for it. A gorgeous little dining area and the food was delicious and plentiful. They also had a wine & cheese even one evening. It offered great value and the chance to stay somewhere that was a nice alternative to your standard hotel experience.

We stayed at the West House the first weekend in November 2016 in the Deluxe Family Suite. The bathroom was unbelievably small, you could barely turn around in it. You would think the bathroom would be a bit bigger in a family suite. Our toilet clogged while we were there so we spoke with the front desk. Their solution was to give us a plunger. I didn't pay $800 for the weekend to have to plunge and clean the toilet myself. The refrigerator in the kitchenette barely worked, it was slightly cooler then room temperature. Our room which was on the third floor was really warm. We turned on the fan they had on the wall, it turned on but no air was coming out so we opened all the windows. Before we left on Sunday we grabbed some small cinnamon rolls off the table of their so called buffet and they were completely stale. In addition the girl they had working at the front desk was not the friendliest of people. When we spoke to her about the toilet she seemed very inconvenienced by our request. The Inn itself was ok, room was clean but the awfully painted walls in the hallways (birds & flowers) was tacky. It is in walking distance to everything in Salem so that is good but I would never stay there again.

The Salem Inn was worth the price and stay! Very convenient and the history of Salem is right outside the hotel door (Literally.) The hotel is indeed haunted and we stayed in room W40 which is the West House. We had a few encounters. Don't let that scare you because the spirits are friendly. The room was clean and in excellent condition. For a very old historical building, they have updated a lot however it still has that oldness vibe to it and its lovely. Since Covid the Inn is doing contactless Check-in and Check-out which is really awesome and its working amazingly. However that didn't stop the staff from interacting, being friendly and considerate. The staff went above and beyond, so with that being said...Please be considerate of the staff if you do decide to stay here! They are really trying during this hard time, but they remain upbeat and give you an awesome experience. Even though my boyfriend and I wore our mask everywhere this Inn makes you forget about everything going on because it feels like home. Clearly they want to keep their guest happy! This Inn was the best place we have stayed at regardless of our ghost friends. Very clean and a VERY beautiful establishment. This is a place we will be back visiting for sure. Thank you Salem Inn for your amazing Staff, a wonderful experience and the history! Stay safe!

The best thing about this hotel is the location. It is located in walking distance of all the attractions. The room in the Peabody House was nice and I enjoyed the fireplace. I could hear my neighbors conversations which means they could hear mine so I felt like I needed to whisper sometimes. If you don't plan on being in the room much I would consider this place.

Probably the best stay I've ever had anywhere. Won't stay anywhere else in Salem. The rooms were great, front desk service was great, the woman that runs the complimentary breakfast and wine & cheese hour was hospitable and made the experience even more memorable. Only a walk away from most of Salems attractions. May not have had such a great vacation if we stayed at any other basic, conventional hotel. :)

Go somewhere else. It looks like a welfare apartment in the ghetto of NYC. Yeah it's old. But not worth the cost breakfast is odd too. Lots of Dutch working there so it feels odd. Policy is horrible for canceling if you want too. Also rooms are very loud due to traffic. Very dissapointed. Parking is out of control too. Food they give you will land you on the toilet all day. This place should get a negative 5 stars.

Stayed at the suite at the top of Powell house. Two bedrooms and a shared common room with a kitchen and two baths. I though the space was very clean and we'll decorated without being over the top. Being on the top floor also gave us plenty of sunlight, which was a nice addition for the spring. All and all pretty reasonable for four adults to share on the off season. The complimentary sherry decanter was a great touch as well. I plan on staying again soon.

Boy did we get what we sought out! Stayed in room 16 in the West residence.
Halloween 2020 weekend. Plastic bag in narrow closet mysteriously was pulled down and literally like vibrating. A hearty ghost cat kept pouncing at my feet the 1st night. Would not stop. I swore the internet said it was the other property. Also my guy friend kept getting slapped while he slept. Ghosts are REAL!

Quite a nice little gem. The inn is a couple(i think) adjoining houses made into an inn. It is more like a B&B. We had a lovely sized room that had a closet, queen bed, love seat, very nice bathroom, and small entry area...AND a fire place that comes with a duraflame log and matches. Just light and enjoy. One of the things that was very impressive was how well the building was brought up to code and modernized without appearing so. The modern amenities blended well with the colonial appearance of the home.

If there is no parking on the street, they have a lot a few houses down the street. There is check in parking where you can unload the car. The breakfast is found at the outside entrance to the basement. Once inside you are blown away by how nicely it has been converted. There is also an outdoor garden area with tables for warmer weather (we were there in December) lovely breakfast of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cranberry juice, orange juice, bagels, breads, pastries, and omelettes to order. The woman who runs the breakfast is friendly, efficient, and professional.

This was supposed to be a special night for my wife s birthday at the end of our US holiday. We booked a deluxe room with a queen bed in West House. I made the reservation in April to be sure of getting this room. However the hotel ignored our confirmed booking and instead we were given a classic room with a standard bed in Curwen House about 500 yards away! I asked to be given the room we had booked and paid for. The rude receptionist said the new room was similar to what we booked and she couldn t understand our problem. There was, apparently, one available room in West House but it was a different category so they would not give it to us it is ok to downgrade but not to upgrade?. The next morning I requested a rebate for the downgraded accommodation and changed location. I was told there would be no rebate. I asked to speak to the duty manager and was told no one was available that day!

We stayed at the Salem Inn probably about 3 years ago. Loved every minute of it! It was in a terrific location to Salem attractions. Loved the house and the feeling of nostalgia you get staying there. The complimentary breakfast isn't a week old danish and coffee that looks like tar. It's what you would eat at home for breakfast eggs, bacon, sausage, milk, coffee, juice. I can't say enough about the warmth you feel here. We are looking at coming back soon!

The place is a beautifully repurposed building from Salem's earlier years. The room we had was beautiful and overlooked a central courtyard garden. A word of caution to those with bad knees the stairs are old which makes them steep. Frequent trips up and down the stairs will give your legs quite a workout.

Cozy little historic place right in the middle of the historic district in town. It was great to be able to walk anywhere you want downtown from this location. There is off street parking about a block away, so keep this in mind if you have issues with walking. The room was clean and functional. Do not expect a cookie cutter chain hotel room, you are staying here for the historical feel. I liked it and would stay again.
