The building is nice with the exception of the noise levels from rooms above you. There seems to be very little insulation or noise barriers between rooms. The breakfast is very nice as are the servers.

Amazing place to stay! Historic and cozy. I was lucky enough to stay in the top floor suite of the West house and I absolutely cannot wait to come back. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable of the area, breakfast was lovely. A 10/10 experience!

I love this inn. My fiance and I always stay here when staying in Salem (about 4 times so far). It has a great location and is close to the center of town. It is DOG friendly (rare and awesome), and the staff is very kind and helpful. They are very accommodating and some rooms gave a Jacuzzi bath, which was wonderful.

Staff are very friendly, the rooms are very nice, in a really good location within walking distance of most things in Salem and the train to Boston. The only downside is the street infront of the inn is pretty high traffic so getting out of here in a car can be pretty rough depending on the time of day.

I booked a 3 night stay through their website about 3 weeks before arrival. The price was fair and among the cheapest. So all correspondence were done through email. We had a 10 hour drive(12 with traffic) and arrived at the Inn at 10pm. The front desk was closed when we arrived and the front door unlocked. There was a sign on the desk that said sorry you missed our business hours, please pick up the phone and dial the following number for our resident inn keeper. For 20 minutes we stood there and called. Never did get an answer. Another guest even stopped to help us. After 20 minutes I found an envelope with my name. Inside was a letter giving instructions on how to find our room key and room. It was quirky and funny after. But a phone call or email with a heads up saying hey your gonna miss check in heres how to proceed once you get in would have been nice.
Aside from the check in problem, the room was nice. We were located on the third floor of the West house. It was clean and quiet. The best part of this hotel was location. Honestly we dont need much when traveling, just a clean place to sleep and shower. If we travel to Salem again we might stay at this Inn, it just depends if we can find a better deal.

Its not a horrible hotel. Parking is a bit tricky and the suites lack proper furnishing. Most of my complaints are creature of habit issues. No TV in the master bedroom. Small nightstands and few plugs for cell charging. Great proximity to restaurants and downtown shopping/tourist hotspots.

I have been to Salem many times with friends and family from the South. This is the first and last time I will ever be staying at the Salem Inn. What a disappointment. The "Enchanted Forest" room looked like something out of a bad movie. The decor was awful. Black walls and a mish mash of furniture and weird nick nacks all over the room. I was so embarrassed as I thought since it was "historic" it would be a bit classier. The mattress was hard, and the pillows were pancakes. The staff indifferent, mildly abrasive, not a bit charming or friendly. I was really hoping the experience would be different as my friend from Fort Lauderdale could not wait to visit Salem. I would have been better off at a Best Western. I do not recommend....

Excellent location to all attractions. Beautiful old world charm. Our room had a view of the Ropes Mansion. It was everything I had expected and more. Breakfast was included and was a quick walk to the main building. The staff was very nice. If you want to have the best experience in the heart of Salem this is the place you want to stay. When we come back to Salem again we will definitely be staying here. Lovely place.

Absolutely loved staying at this B&B. It's so close to everything and is beautifully decorated. My boyfriend and I stayed in one of the classic rooms in the Curwen House and it was wonderful! I will definitely be staying here next time we visit Salem!

The price was very reasonable for where we were located. It s close to everything! When u step out the front door, the witch house is right across the street. The room was immaculate. Incredibly clean and cozy and the bed was very comfortable. We even had complimentary wine and local chocolate. The private bathroom was incredibly clean as well! Wonderful staff who was very friendly and helpful. I m picky about hotels and this inn was absolutely wonderful. I d recommend. To anyone staying in Salem and would absolutely stay here again. However. Parking is a nightmare but they do have a free parking lot a block away.

Pricey considering the decor; dated in a 80's way and noisy, including the flooring under the carpet. Convenient to activities. Breakfast buffet is plentiful and enough options for most dietary needs.
I'm sure I'll forget it soon.

The salem in was fairly nice inside, but our room was facing summer Street and it was rather loud all day and especially early in the morning when we were trying to sleep in. They were also under construction, so if the traffic didn't wake you, the construction workers did. We had an issue with the fire alarm accidentally going off in the middle of the night during our stay and nobody acknowledged it or apologized. Their breakfast was an Ok light fare. I'm not sure I would stay here again, I might opt for something further from the metro daily traffic.
On the other hand we did really enjoy salem in the off season. It's a cute Boston suburb with a fair amount of sights to see and activities. There are also plenty of great restaurants all over town. You can't go wrong visiting Salem.

This place is adorable. Our room was amazing! Great romantic colors. Great shower, jacuzzi... bed was comfortable. Even though we were the 1st room near the street. Once you walked in, if with the right person, you would have nothing to complain about.
The staff was very friendly. The rooms were clean. Smoke free. Their breakfast was very good, held in a remote area below. Cute little birds in the lobby. Close to everything! Great for bathroom trips, take a break trips.
I would definitely go again.

My family loved this place and will certainly return sometime. It is in a conveniently central location, has friendly and helpful staff and our room was large and comfortable. The whole place had a charming New England feel and the complementary breakfast was tasty and plentiful. Our 11yo son had dreaded being away from home, but quickly changed his mind once here and was sad to leave.

The staff was nice, rooms were very clean. Breakfast was very enjoyable and they even had a complimentary wine and cheese hour every night. I loved how we were in the center of shops, museums, and restaurants. The whole time we were there didn't even use our car, everything was walking distance. The only complaint I would have most stores and museums closed at 5pm on the dot. So I recommend do museums one day and shops another to make most of your time there. Would definitely go back there again. :)

We stayed here from 8/19/16 to 8/21/16. We got the Whirlpool Room. We were in the Curwen House on the 1st floor in room 13. What a great place and a great location. From here you can walk anywhere in Salem. The Inn itself was wonderful and had the old New England charm. The room was VERY spacious and had everything we could need. There was a common room that was also very nice, but we didn't use it, but there were others who did take advantage of the room and the sherry they offered. Curwen House has off-street parking, which is a HUGE plus in Salem since parking is tough. The staff was fantastic, friendly and helpful. We had breakfast in the Main house on Summer St which is a short walk from Curwen House. Breakfast offered standard fare as well as made-to-order omelets. I also found the coffee to be outstanding! The staff there was also friendly, helpful and wonderful. Other reviews I've read really bash this place, and it's unfounded since we witnessed nothing that came close to what others have said. But if you are going to Salem in September or October, your millage may vary since this is a CRAZY time in Salem. Also, this is a New England Bed and Breakfast, not a 5-Star hotel with white-glove service. Having grown up in MA, this place was like home and would stay here again!

10/10 and I wish I could rate it even higher. I was supposed to go to Salem this October 2020. Just two days before my trip, New Jersey was added to MA's travel advisory so I was unable to travel to the state. The Salem Inn gave me a full refund and was so kind and understanding. I cannot wait to actually visit next year!

I very much enjoyed my time as a solo traveler, staying at this historical inn. Bed was comfortable, the room and facilities were clean. The back garden was quite pretty to relax in. The breakfast was hearty and coffee was delicious.

I would say though, this being a historical inn, might not be great for those with mobility issues. There were a lot of stairs (I might say a bit steep), and did not see elevators. So, I would not recommend staying here if mobility might become an issue.

Other than that, the Inn is in a great location and easy to get to. Comfortable.

The hotel is clean and well-appointed with modern facilities. Unfortunately, there are a few key points that made our stay less than enjoyable.
The website does say it s a pet friendly establishment and it s my own fault for not taking that seriously. We listened to numerous dogs bark, howl, and whine at all hours. I called the front desk twice and each time all they could do was remind me that they re pet friendly. Passively listening to animals scream in fear and loneliness is simply miserable and anxiety-inducing. The dogs are also allowed in the dining area where breakfast is served.
The parking lot is a block away and there s no valet.
The staircases are steep and narrow. There are no bellhops.

The only things that I disliked were: the tub wasn't clean, and I had to wipe it down; there was nothing advertised about their pet policy accept a sticker on the entrance to the building. I made other, less appeal accommodations for our dogs when they could have spent both the holiday and our anniversary with us.
Otherwise, the place was clean, stocked, quiet and close to downtown :) Will absolutely stay again!

Our room was amazing! We were in room 40 and it was like a little apartment. The kids slept on trundles and we had the bedroom. The staff was nice. Breakfast perfect and was in a beautiful room. The quiche was delicious. I would stay again. Thank you Salem Inn for a great stay.

Clean, quiet, and comfortable rooms. However, parking was confusing and distant from the hotel itself. The breakfast was not as imagined, as it was a more of a bagel and baked goods type of buffet, rather than an authentic breakfast.

Beautiful old hotel. Large room, very comfortable. Nice bathroom/shower. Absolutely amazing location right on Essex street, everything within waking distance. Unfortunately, strange noises in the night (mundane, not supernatural ;]) kept myself and my companions awake. Only stayed one night so we did not complain.

Beautiful historical site. Don't be fooled when you pull up in front..Breakfast selection is nice and the dining area is very unexpected
The servers and cook are great and strike up conversation with you and will give u tidbits of information on the history of Salem.
Innkeeper socializes with guests before retiring to her quarters.
The bed was so comfortable my Boston Terrier and I didn't leave the room to sightsee for 2 days of our 4 day stay.
There is an unhidden gem - go around the side and enter the back- beautiful terrace and hidden cobblestone area with flowers and trees and patio seating - it takes you back to potentially the early 1762, and makes the hustle of everything around you disappear- I definitely want to go back and enjoy that in spring.
Shower was huge. Also had a whirlpool in the room+ plus lavender scented salts to put in the whirlpool...homemade glycerin soaps adorned the room.. flat screen TV. Towels. Windows that opened
So you ask why a 4 star rating and not a 5?
The girls at the front desk... trying to utilize covid 19 and no contact entry to hide behind the fact they would rather talk and jib jab then attempt to help a tourist figure things out.. If u don't know the roads, dont drive- walk or take a cab or a lyft..
My phone broke on a cobblestone st... and during this pandemic it is suggested to purchase your tours for the museums and trolleys and such online- without your phone u have no ticket or directions to the evemt... I use my phone for GPS as well.. being my phone is straight talk I can only get it at a store I hate- walmart!!
A tourist needs to know where such things are as well as have a way to contact a cab or Lyft driver etc..
It took me having to enter and direct my vocal tone in a superior manner, which the one attempted to turn it around to me.... when someone just dropped over a grand for a couple nights, DO NOT EVER TELL THAT PERSON YOUR JOB REQUIRES TO MAKE SOMEONES STAY ADEQUATE!!!
I am sorry but adequate is not acceptable with me EVER...
As a bachelor degree holder in Business Management and Customer Service with a minor in Human Resource- your job, little lady, is to strive for superior service to ensure your customer will not only come back for more but to social tweet and advertise (even word of mouth) about how fantastic the stay was and how great as well as accommodating the front desk is!!!!
Provide your tourists with help on things to do and means to go about it You would think they could let u know the best way to do things..No ice in the ice machine. Did not know if allowed to look at other floors to admire the history.
I did take pictures but have to pull them off facebook

Stayed at the Corwen House- charming with much history and quiet street. Inconvenient to commute to the main building for information as there was no one available inside the Cowen house.
Room was clean and quiet. For the very expensive price there should be better quality sheets- felt like sandpaper! Safety request_ the shower/bath was VERY slippery. ALL showers should have a safety bar!!

Very clean, pretty, staff is friendly. Good breakfast included with the price. In a great area, right near downtown/Essex St. My only complaint was where our room was situated (right off of the common area, very loud) but you're staying in a piece of history so you can't be too picky.

We have visited Salem many times before but have never tried out the Salem Inn, so we decidd to check it out, especially because it's supposed haunted history. We stayed in the west house. What a wonderful place. The staff were all super friendly, and accommodated us every way possible despite "covid times". There was even still a made-to-order breakfast we were served, included in the price. While we stayed in room 17, "the Haunted Room", our evening was uneventful (for good or for bad we weren't totally sure.) Parking is a bit of a pain, but it is in a busy old section of town; not many places have parking. They at least have ample parking a short block away, so not bad! Thank you to everyone working there during our stay for showing us a great first time at the Salem Inn! We'll be back!

Might be better in the main hotel but we were stuck in the Curwen House, which we had to hike several blocks to get to with our luggage in sub-freezing weather @ 9 PM on Thanksgiving night. Room was large, clean and adequate. The lady preparing the food in the breakfast room (another hike back to main hotel) was a delightful Whoopi Goldberg who brightens the whole place.

We had a wonderful stay here! One of my girlfriend's booked the hotel for our girls weekend away. We were all so impressed with everything about this inn. The staff was extremely nice, friendly and so helpful with all of our questions. We stayed in the Peabody House room 6 which was phenomenal! Room was spacious and sparkling clean! Private parking out back.... Perfect location where we could walk to everything. We had free breakfast in the inns restaurant and it was perfect. Made to order omelettes... Fresh fruit, Danish, breads, juices coffee teas practically everything and the place was adorable and clean! All of the staff was friendly including the gentleman painting the porch trim to the ladies cleaning up the leaves in the parking lot. We would all highly recommend this place and we will all definitely be returning! They deserve 10 stars!!!

This was an amazing quiet little hotel in the heart of salem. We stayed for 5 days Wednesday-Sunday. My favorite part of my stay was talking with Ms. D in the breakfast room and wine and cheese hour throughout the week. She was extremely helpful and informative on where to go and what to see. The weekend got a bit un personal breakfast closed before 10am and the staff weren't as lively or welcoming. My omelet made on saturday was under cooked because I was told it was late 9:45 and they were cleaning up. Overall we enjoyed our stay. Just wish we could have had Ms. D brighten our mornings on the weekend as well she was phenomenal!! Our room was very pretty and comfy. I will definatly be staying here again if we come back to Salem.

I hesitated to keep my reservation, which I've had for 2 months, due to the pandemic. I ultimately decided to take the trip to Salem from Syracuse, NY. From the moment I stepped foot inside, I knew I had made the right decision. I can't explain the comfort I felt when walking in. Mind you, they set up this contactless check in system, it's basically all the info you could possibly need about your stay, and a real person is on the other end for questions. Our first night, we requested a fan, and one was delivered to our room 10 minutes later. Exploring the hotel was so much fun, it's like a labyrinth of staircases and nooks, absolutely lovely, clean, and quiet. I'm in room w17, the haunted room. Not much to report yet, save for a few strange noises in the night. The staff has been so kind and wonderful, super helpful and happy to chat and share their knowledge. The only downside is that I didn't book a couple extra nights. I know the pandemic has changed a lot of our day to day lives, but if you want to go somewhere for a few days, and put your real life on hold and just escape, I would highly recommend the Salem Inn.
