The wait staff is great, and the food is good, but management is not customer oriented. Asked many times to fix sporadic soap dispenser that many people have complained about, and the last time I complained he made me feel like I was an ediot that does not know how to use one.

Laid back place that is dog friendly. The food is delicious and it is right on the water. They also had live music we enjoyed. They have a cam and our friends signed on so we waived at them. Great place!

Divey local hangout with great live music on Frida...

Divey local hangout with great live music on Fridays. Seat yourself, choose between indoor (air conditioned) or out on the deck along the canal. There's also a pool table near the bar. Beer and wine selection is fine with good seafood options typical of the area. I enjoyed the peel and eat shrimp, home made chips, Cole slaw, and a fried grouper sandwich. Very casual with a nice view during sunset.

Bert's is awesome. Went for drinks on a Saturday afternoon. Sat outside with beautiful view on the water. Steel drum guy played nice music and added to the atmosphere. Great staff and reasonable prices. This was our first visit. We will be back.

Sat at a table for over 30 minutes with no server and when we finally got her attention she said the kitchen was closed... yet the restaurant closes at 12 am and it was before 10 pm we sat down.

beer & wine only, which is a let down. Bloddy marry would be nice. But the live music is great. Updated June 15th: I just left Burts Bar with my girlfriend, 21 yr. Old Daughter and her 22 yr old best friend. For years I've been visiting Berts, Matlacha and I own property in the area. I've been anxiously waiting to take my Daughter (once she turned 21) to Matlacha and to Berts for dinner, a cold beer and listen to some local live music. We had dinner, two beers each and the excellent key lime pie for dessert. After dinner we decided to finish our beer while watching the band before heading back home. While we were sitting at the table a waitress came up to us and said that the Owner told her that these two girls are no longer to be served. Really? We asked why? The waitress said the owner thinks they're drunk and he's not serving them any more. These two very respectful young girls have had two beers? We were dumbfounded? We were sitting at a table talking and enjoying the band, no more no less. The waitress was unprofessional and boarder line rude. I asked if I could talk to the owner to get his reasoning? What did we do that caused him concern? Again the waitress was loud and short and told me that the Owner has left the building. I'm really disappointed with the way this was handled. As a business owner myself I fully understand and appreciate the fact the owner of any establishment can refuse service. But this was shockingly unexpected and unjustified. And for the Owner to leave without having the professionalism to discuss his view and decision was something I wish was handled in a better, more mature way. We were about to leave anyway since we just spent over $300 on dinner, drinks and Berts merchandise for everyone. The worst part of this situation for me as a Dad was that as I mentioned for years I've been talking about my vacations, fishing trips to Matlacha and that this is where I'll be retiring in a few years. And on my Daughters 21st birthday trip to the area I love so much I bought property here, my family now has a really bad taste left for Berts Bar on there first trip here.

Bert's was awesome! What a great dining experience...

Bert's was awesome! What a great dining experience. Bert's is an old Florida classic. You walk in the door and hear the bar patrons singing along to the musician playing classic rock and a guy with a kazoo. So laid back, fun and real.
It's low ceilings and tight walls are full of fishing relics, photos, and license plates.
We sat ourselves in the back room with an amazing water view. We didn't want to sit outside because I love the air conditioning.
Our waitress appeared immediately with a great attitude.
She brought our drinks quickly and took our order. We had fried cod and fried oysters. The cod was accompanied by their famous chips, cole slaw, and hush puppies. The cod was amazing. Seasoned and cooked to perfection. Didn't need or want the tartar sauce because it might mask the greatness. Hush puppies were exactly as hush puppies should be, crispy with the taste of corn meal. No hoity toity seasonings or fillings. The oysters were great.
Our waitress was there when we needed her with great service and a great sense of humor.
If you're looking for linen tablecloths and real silverware, this is not for you, but if you want outstanding food with waterfront dining in a working mans historical location, come to Bert's and have a blast!

Bert's started out years ago with tons of ambiance as a dive bar in front and a seafood bar in back. In 2019 you can tell Burt is cashing in on the tourist trade. It's just okay now. You could get the food anywhere.

Of course oldest bar in Southern Florida absolutely love Friday night fish night and the music is always great atmosphere is wonderful, even though the kitchen is small and hectic at times , I think they can do a better job of emptying the trash cans in the kitchen, trash was kind of running over in the floor, You could see this when we were being seated.

An atypical restaurant bar or every Thursday night...

An atypical restaurant bar or every Thursday night there is a group of musicians. This Thursday there was a band that sang rock and blues, there was a fire atmosphere. All the locals were there. You can eat indoors and be closer to the atmosphere or eat outside quietly and return to listen to the concert. Some locals arrive by boat and get alarmed directly at the restaurant's pontoon. The service is fast and the staff is very friendly. Go there around 18:30 19:00 to spend a good evening and choose your table.
