VERY generous portions, especially if you order the bento boxes. The boxes could even be enough for two (not-too-hungry) people. Certainly more than enough for one person's appetite.
The staff is very very nice, and the service is quick. I wouldn't say the sushi is absolutely amazing, but it's solid, reliable, tasty, and not too expensive.
Would definitely recommend this place if you're in Greenpoint and looking for a nice meal.
Went to celebrate my little cousin's 8th Birthday yesterday (her choice). We absolutely loved it. The drinks, the food, the presentation all wonderful. Our chef was named Aneury was great. He was friendly, fed us great food (while totally respecting a food allergy at the table) and he was a cutie pie to boot ! Our waitress was also very sweet and efficient. When it was all said and done the bill was almost $500 ! It was totally worth every penny !

Always a great time! Fun eating experience where the chef cooks right in front of you. Great for families and special events! Make a reservation or be ready for a long wait. There is a bar in the waiting area as well so you can at least get a drink while you're waiting. Our chefs and servers were incredible!! But we did find the staff who called reservations to be cold and almost rude.
It's a nice place, the food is decent and the experience is worth it at least once. Unfortunately some of the cooks don't put a lot of effort in and treat it like a day at the office.
Chef was a bit tired and kept repeating the same "oh yeah" while making food infront of us. Food was nothing to write home about.
That's a shame cos we were celebrating a birthday, and we wanted a special restaurant.

I took my family and co-workers family totaling 7 ppl. To Benihana for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was previously closed for renovations but I didn't see any upgrades/improvements. The food was as good as I remembered the staff was "OK" there were only one other grill on beside ours because the restaurant was fairly quiet and empty which usually results in great service because there are less people to attend to. Not in my case, the waiter, tall skinny guy was always MIA especially when someone at out table needed something. He was missing for so long even the hibachi chief left to go and look for him on our behalf. That's my only bad experience.
I've had benihanas in other cities, and had a decent experience overall. I've lived in NYC and ate at the benihanas in NYC. Between the service, the looks of the exterior building, hosts front desk, and customer service, it was the worst I have ever experienced. Many people that night were completely complaining of the same issues and therefore many of the parties left that night without even getting seated. The service from the Beginning was awful. Food is OK, could be better like other benihanas. I never one to give out bad ratings, usually find great things in restaurants, but this really shocked me and the worst part is, it was a friend birthday, a party for 5 and we ended up going to a nice sushi restaurant nearby. Sorry benihanas NYC, but you have lots to be aware of and TAKE ACTION IN MAKING YOUR RESTAURANT BETTER FOR EVERYONE! don't let the blind lead the blind..lol.
We tend to have a great time when visiting, barely look at the menu because we know what we want and there's very little variety. The beer selection should be updated and unfortunately, it's hit or miss with the cooks. Hopefully, you're lucky and get a lively one. Last time we visited, had a great time, felt bad for the table next to us. No corny jokes, no enthusiasm. Like who comes to Benihana and doesn't want to see the volcano turning into a train or the "egg roll" lmao.
Delicious food, a bit pricey but great experience everytime
Prices way too high for the quality of food. I eat out at a lot of restaurants and it's becoming a recurring theme.. cheaper cuts of meats and usually noticeably freezer burnt / tough. Places seriously think that cutting food quality to recoup losses will help, but in reality they should try changing up the menu or pricing to drive up revenue.
The place is good for the showmanship and ambiance, but save your money there's hundreds of decent Chinese food places in NYC that outshine it nowadays.
Our chef Richard made the experience great. Request him as a chef. Drinks are very good and tasty. Portions are smaller than the usual hibachi, ordered the Hibachi Filet mignon and chicken. The steak melts and I love the garlic butter on everything. The guests with us were first time hibachi goers and they were impressed.
Great food, we're 45 minutes late to seat is but they gave a big discount on the check without asking.
Despite having a reservation, the wait time for a table was 55 minutes, and then 25 minutes more for the waiter to take our order. Service was bad, we were charged for fried rice despite not being told it had an additional cost, the place was crowded, loud, and sketchy.
The chef did his best to put on a nice show, and was humorous and lighthearted, but unfortunately it all just feels like a place that's seen better days.
Considering the number of good restaurants in NY with similar concepts, similar prices, and a much more enjoyable experience, I would not recommend going to this one.

Definitely pricey but the experience is what counts and would do it for the same PLEASE make reservations well in advance and then too please do not expect to be seated on time since the experience generally runs over time. However went here on 25th December and hence that could be the reason for the delay. The emperor feast is a good selection
The only Shrimp Fried Rice I'd travel for. I'm usually dining alone, but even if I'm not, the price is dope for what I order! I don't drink alcohol. Although the fried rice is small, I order THREE of them (if I'm starving), tell them to put it all on one plate, plus a soda, and the bill is <$20. Great quality rice at a good price!

I live about an hour away. I thought of this moment the whole ride home and let different scenarios run wild in my mind. Let me start by saying that I m a frequent restaurant guy. I dine at Michelin starred restaurants and I have eaten McDonald s hundreds of times. I m unbiased. Whether it s nobu or a diner... I have never had a restaurant put utensils and plates for the next group of people on my table while I was still eating. I have never been as rushed in my life. We arrived at 4:15. Waiting until 4:30. No food until 5. Chef left at 5:40. Were told we had to leave by 6. Garbage place. Garbage manager. I should have never taken my 6 year old niece here for her birthday. That s what I get for trying to steer outside of my usual. The bill at Buddakan would have been the same but the service would be impeccable. I can t speak any lower of this restaurant. The manager is the POS who forces you to be rushed. Food sucked too. (Still tipped 30%). First and last time at Benihana.

There is nothing I'd like to do less than to e-mail your guest services people. You have these same reviews for months and answer the same thing like a ROBOT. One piece of advice, bad service is worse than bad food. Fire your whole management team. Bring in someone who knows how to run staff. Your revenue will suffer from the lack of service over time. The place is a DISASTER.

Nice live demo and it was very good: zucchini, shrimp and chicken breast with a spring and a small bowl of hot rice.
Just recently came here to celebrate my brothers 18th birthday. It was absolutely amazing. The food is great. Very fairly priced. The chef was very engaging. And our server Gideon was such a sweet heart. Very attentive. Will be back every time we visit New York
Went to benihans with a couple of friends to celebrate our birthday. It was my first time there but the food was excellent I enjoyed watching the chef prepare the food in front of us. I will go back again
Terrible experience to travel across town with young (hungry) children and then not have a table available for 30 mins even with a reservation. Simply can t eat at a place like this if you have kids. Don t recommended.
We went on Feb 17th to celebrate my son's birthday and Chef Ramon was absolutely wonderful! He was very funny and made the experience for all of our parties one to remember. The only thing I'm upset about is that our waiter didn't take the birthday picture for my son to have as memory. I've been going to benihana since 2004 and this was the first time a waiter didnt take a birthday picture of us. But overall we had a great time. The best habachi restaurant to dine at.
Service was not great, and fairly slow. Our chef seemed quite unskilled with his utensils, and my dr. Pepper refill turned into a diet Pepsi (not the same). The food was just OK, and price is to be expected for the city.
Being a loong time Benihana client , this visit was kind of disappointing..... firstly , the mustard sauce was changed for "yummy sauce" not a good switch. Wife ordered scallops what used to be nice sized ocean scallops were switched to some small scallops that after being cooked were rubbery to chew...

First time at hibachi, so that was fun. The chefs do some interesting stuff. Otherwise okay. It's a bit expensive. Also, 4 of us were crowded in a corner, so not much space to move our plates and bowls around.

Awful place never would I go to this place ever or would I recommend it to anyone, I had reservations for 9:15pm and I Hurd so much good things about this place .... so I got there at 9:10pm and I had a party of 7 we did not get seated til 11:30pm -11:45pm ..... the next party came up and the chefs was there before ours my chest didn t come until 1:15am he rushed everything was a great experience all the manger said our drinks was on him but that wasn t good enough because we waited literally 4 hours just to have chef rush and the food was disgusting never again !!!!!

Overrated overpriced and a long wait with reservations
Reservations are necessary. This place books up through the closing hour. It's a fun experience but make sure you go on an empty stomach. The portions are very generous. It's okay to bring leftovers home as well. It's definitely a place to go on a special occasion.
Always a good time at Benihana s. Sometimes I wish we didn t have to share tables with strangers, but it s always tasty and fun.

This was my favorite Benihana experience. Had a great chef and they really made this place spacious, fun, and great for a nice dining experience. Just down the street from Trump Tower, and very close to the subway (of course). It's a great spot in Manhattan, Times Square is just around the corner basically. Highly recommend if looking for just a good meal in a not-so-private dining setting.
The food is always excellent. Every time I eat here I feel like I am back in Japan. I especially like the Hibachi foods. They always do a good show.
I like this venue a lot. there is a different air. The cuisine is great. the service is dynamic and the stuff is trained. The price is reasonable. profoundly recommend.
Waited over 45 min for a take out order (1 meal should have been 15 min). No rice in bag. Had to go back and wait 20 min for rice (missing rice should have been ready when I got there). Place was empty too so no reason for waits like that.

I ordered a family sushi special for pickup and it was pretty amazing!!! The ease of ordering was easy, the instructions on entering were confusing. Do yourself a favor and just go to the main entrance.

Kevin was our waiter and recommended his very own VEGETARIAN DISH which included White noddles, vegetables, corn, fried rice, onions all covered in teriyaki sauce......IT WAS AMAZING! please put his dish on the menu for the Vegetarians and Vegans! will be there next week and will be ordering Kevins dish called "Vegetable Medley" again. :)
I've been to Benihana for the last four years for my birthday dinner and have never gotten bored of the show they provide. The food is amazing and the staff are very sweet. Looking forward to going next year.
The a/c failed yesterday, taking a bunch of tables out of commission. But did Benihana call their customers to let them know? Nope. Waited just about an hour for our table amongst a crowd of impatient customers and a not so nice guy behind the front desk. Bad experience.

I came to pick up a delivery an they had a trainee ring me up an my card kept declining an I added 100$ on my card an it still declined cause he couldn't ring me up with his trainee card so I lost my delivery wasted my time an now my Customer is unsatisfied.....very stupid mistake
I am giving this Benihana 5/5 for the food. If it was possible I would give it 0/5 because of customer service. I went there 4/18/2019 for my birthday party of 2. I had a reservation for 7:45. I got there 40 mins early. When I arrived there was basically no one there now would you believe me if I told you that around 3 different groups came in after me and got through before me. When I went to speak to the host/hostess they couldn t find my reservation anymore. Then the Hispanic girl that had check me was trying to brush me off. I don t know if it s a color thing but that whole experience just messed it up for me.
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday. The staff was very nice and professional. Also very attentive. The cook had a great personality and made it fun. I recommend this place to everyone for any occasion.
Just about everybody was celebrating a birthday when we went. It was lots of fun; an entertaining place with plenty of amazing food.
