Great place for your theater fix, if you going for an evening production I would advise arriving early so you are able to get parking near the theater, else prepare yourself for a nice walk. Facilities are clean and staff are friendly and knowledgeable about productions on show.
Always a favourite venue for unwinding, whether it's to a musical, theatrical, stand up or a well crafted comedic production.
Ample parking and offers a coffee/wine bar as well as a restaurant, for patrons who want to take advantage of a FULL night out at the theater !
An award winning building from the 60s.
A good selection of shows. Restaurant is so so vegan curry place. Plenty parking.
EBENEZER 98 is our church's Ministry to Seniors by Seniors !
The Baxter Theatre is UCT's drama facility. It is one of the historical cultural establishments of Cape Town. The Baxter is well known for local and international productions etc and offers a variety of cultural productions ranging from children to adults etc.
Enjoyed the concert. Pity that the introductory speaker was spoilt by the usual poor sound. Otherwise a lovely venue.
Enjoyed a double date evening with my friend and the hubbies at the Cape ztown comedy jive festival
Its brimming with interesting people and amazing productions. Auntie Merle was the funniest show I've seen in ages. Slick, witty brilliant choreography and dancing. An absolute theatrical gem. Not to be missed.
It was the opening night for Woza Albert! With the legendary Mbongeni Ngema. The play was beautiful. Well attended by a lot of people in the industry. The bar and snacks afterwards were delicious.
Amazing except that the bar staff did not know the rules about taking alcohol in to the theater.
The theatre complex is part of the University of Cape Town. During terms (semesters) the music college students are required to perform, normally on a weekly basis, presenting excellent performances of a varied repertoire.
There are also regular theatre productions in the complex presented both by students and professional companies.
All in all an excellent entertainment venue.
Not only does Baxter Theatre look good on the inside and out, but the atmosphere around it is amazing. The place is just a beautiful work of art. I've only been to one of it's theatres but I know it has a few of them, a mini "bar", and a restaurant. It also host plays pretty frequently. I'm quite sure there's a lot I don't know about it and I'll do more reviews as I find out.
As much as I love theatre and any kind of entertainment I find that the Baxter needs an overhaul in its looks. It's very old-fashioned. However, it's clean, has friendly staff and an amazing vegetarian menu that changes regularly. I still can't help but feel that the look impacted my stay quite a bit. The show we visited was also not fantastic but that has something to do with the show itself.
The Baxter Theatre provides a marvelous venue for all sorts of concerts and performances.
Most visitors experience is going to be largely defined by the quality of the show that they watch, but there s no doubt that this is a beautiful and impressive venue.
As a performer, I have always been impressed by the professionalism of the staff, as well as their knowledge and experience.
Beautiful theatre that fulfils it's acoustical purpose. It surely enhances the praise and worship of the church on Sundays.
Classy and professional with a wide variety of shows!
It is home to many comedians. Upcoming and successful ones. I love their bar. It caters for non alcoholic beverages.
The Five Funny Festival was amazing. The acts were really funny and it was really refreshing because the was a wonderful variety of different acts
A nice place for relaxation and watch real life stories. Enjoyed it a lot.
I've watched dozens of shows here over the years. The facilities are always great, and the ushers helpful.
It would help if there where posters on the wall saying what show is playing in what theater. The reception was very helpful. For new comers the parking and entrances can be confusing. I like that the rooms are small so you feel like a VIP up close to the show. Theres very limited snacks or food on sale and things that are being sold you can't tell if it's Halaal.
Although built in the seventies, the Baxter is still a wonderful warm sympathetic space that feels special and welcoming.
Arrive early to ensure parking. Beverages expensive. Experience depends largely on the quality of the performance. Could do with a few more restrooms.
As always the productions hosted does not disappoint. The staff are very and helpful. The facility itself is well maintained
It was great show fantastic performance will definitely recomend it xxxxx
The show Aunty Merle its a girl was fabulous, cleverly done, hilarious, multi culturally inclusive. A great evening! Laughter the best medicine while not detracting from some serious underlying messages, themes.
Popular venue for appreciating top artistic talent.
Nice live
entertainment.
It's a nice way over unwinding when attending a show
A lovely lovely theatre. Not great food and drinks options.
Wonderful afternoon watching Aunty Merle. Theatre complex easy to navigate and friendly staff. Could mark the location of toilets more clearly... Usual interval crush!
Always a good night when you're enjoying local talent.
We had an organisation there. It was well planned. And it end as planned..
Staff was helpful..
Aunty Merle it's a girl was brilliant. Marc lottering you rock
We really enjoy going to The Baxter and have for decades enjoyed the fact that it had always hosted amazing plays, theater,, and other events. And that it has always been multi racial. Our last event there was the leader of the Vidanta movement, Swami Pathasarathy, who was an inspiration,, and we subsequently attended the three talks that his daughter gave in Cape Town.
I've been entertained here for decades. They always put on really good shows.
Always a pleasure being a patron at the Baxter to watch world class productions and to support our local artists on stage.
Staff are always friendly and helpful and facility is always kept neat and clean. Well worth visiting with its diverse productions.
The shows there are always great. Parking is a nightmare though. I always enjoy myself there
Just watched aunty Merle and was utterly amazed at how much I enjoyed it, i could not stop laughing, Mark you and your cast are so amazing can't wait for the next show
Absolutely loved the show Aunty Merle. But the complex should really think of adding some toilets for the ladies.
Good place for interactive shows. Very nice setup and good food.
Lots of history and known to host the very best of Cape Town talent
Really nice place. The entertainment is well organised. Great place to go experience some cape town culture.
It's safe and it's clean. It's maintained quite well. The managers and staff are friendly. It's a good place to make a concert bcoz it has very big theatres which are in an A class level.
