Great atmosphere & great architecture. The great window & ceilings are amazing. Small donation to enter, though I didn't pay there recommended price. It's a public building after all. Very interesting & quiet place to think.

I always enjoy visiting old churches on my holidays. The architecture of these old structures always make a great photo op. The Bath Abbey is a truly amazing building. The arches within the Abbey are incredible. The stain glass windows are also a sight to behold.

Bath Abbey is a beautiful way to spend an hour in the city. Entry is free, and queueing is kept to a minimum outside (bring an umbrella if visiting in winter!). Once inside, you will be greeted by huge stain glass windows and hundreds of historical headstones, each with their own story to tell. Unfortunately during our visit, half of the Abbey was closed to the public while upgrading works were going on, but this is only a minor blemish on a must see attraction in the city.

Church with wonderful stained glass.
Perhaps the best in a nearby city?

It was charged, but I was able to go sightseeing because the entrance time was vacant until the evening.

I was expecting to climb up the tower so we could see Bath from above but this tour is closed with Covid so we just visited the Bath Abbey. It is an amazing historic place that should be in your plans if you are going to visit Bath.

Bath Abbey is a parish church of the Church of England and former Benedictine monastery in Bath, Somerset. Founded in the 7th century, it was reorganised in the 10th century and rebuilt in the 12th and 16th centuries; major restoration work was carried out by Sir George Gilbert Scott in the 1860s. It is one of the largest examples of Perpendicular Gothic architecture in the West Country. The medieval abbey church served as a sometime cathedral of a bishop. After long contention between churchmen in Bath and Wells the seat of the Diocese of Bath and Wells was later consolidated at Wells Cathedral. The Benedictine community was dissolved in 1539 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries. (From Wikipedia)

Renovation work going on so no access to the whole of the Abbey. Suggested donations on entering, however nothing stopping you from going through the shop first then into the Abbey for free, no controls therefore unfair on those who paid.

Before going into this review, it should be noted...

Before going into this review, it should be noted, as a historical note, that this religious building was originally built by the Normans as a cathedral and then; over the centuries, became a Benedettine monastery in the city of Bath. The religion that represent this church, once again , becoming definitively the Anglican parish church of the city and it is still today. As ancient history teaches us,it was founded in the seventeenth century and later reorganised in the tenth century. Between the 15th and 16th centuries,it was rebuilt becoming one of the greatest examples of late Anglo-Saxon Gothic style . Entering the church, the tourist can see a fan vault, typical of late Gothic art. In closing this review, I invite the tourist to visit it and,I'm sure, he will be thrilled.

Marvellous abbey church with an amazing ceiling and the walls and floor covered in unusual and interesting memorials. New carved features are currently being added, good to see the church being added to rather than just being held in stasis.
Very knowledgeable and friendly volunteer guides will tell you about the abbey if you ask.

Currently under some renovation and So some areas may be closed but the great thing is that they have uncovered some original Tiles that date back to pre-Roman site and majestic building with great Royal history and connection to the coronation of Edgar in the 10th century

A great tourist attraction and a worthwhile place to visit due to the spectacular grandeur and elegance of the Abbey. At the time of visiting it was undergoing construction but the friendly guide at the abbey told us the amazing history behind the abbey and the historic city of Bath. The close proximity to the centre of Bath made it easy to travel to nearby restaurants and bars, also Bath Abbey is extremely close to the Roman Baths in which the city is famous for. The gift shop is very quaint and run by friendly people, the atmosphere is very calm and peaceful. All round an amazing place to visit.

The Abbey is beautiful inside and out, the architecture of the building, especially the ceiling inside and the stain glass windows is breathtaking. I would recommend anyone that visits Bath to go and walk around and take in the history of the building.
