Worst hospital in the valley hands down. Go to hell dirtbags.
This Hospital sounds like a nightmare. Seizing children from parents of a certain demographic. This is just one of the complaints I've heard. Forewarned is fair warned.
Make sure you really monitor everything when you go to this hospital. I was a patient there a few years ago with atrial fibrillation. From the ER, I was admitted to the cardiac care wing, and a cardiologist ordered IV Amiodarone. The IV was placed in the ER, in the vein at the elbow that is commonly used for IV (median cubital vein). Within a day or two, my arm swelled up. The nurse suddenly came in and removed the IV and I was then given the Amiodarone via pills from then on. I asked why now the pills instead, and nobody would give me an answer. I believe what happened, is the IV was placed wrong originally and the vein was through- punched such that it was not lying inside the vein, but all the way through it into the surrounding tissue. So the medicine just pooled there outside the vein, and it's corrosiveness damaged the vein and caused the swelling of the arm. From then on, that vein is completely collapsed and it never came back. It used to be plump and perfect , and now you can't even detect it and it is not available for any future blood draw or IV. It's now a tiny little collapsed thread. Months later, I had my own primary care family practice physician examine it, and after hearing the story, he felt the vein would come back. Now years later, it still has not at all. They never mentioned it at all in the chart (I know, beacuse I obtained a copy later). You would think this hospital would have the ability to place an IV and administer medicine without permanently collapsing the vein. I should have insisted on them answering when I questioned it, and should have insisted they put it in the chart when they changed to pills and why. Then when I was released after a weekend stay, the nurse gave me another patient's medication prescription, and mine to them. I called back and alerted them to that mistake out of concern for the other patient. Be aware that when mistakes are made by medical people, and you are damaged, they often engage in a coverup like this and hide it if they can. They were successful in covering up their mistakes with me, and I have a needlessly collapsed vein that is forever damaged. You have to advocate for yourself and don't just trust them. Insist on everything being charted.
Another aspect of what happened with the infiltration of the medicine pooling into the area of my arm around the vein, was depriving the heart of the amount and rate the doctor intended it to receive, in order to get my heart out of the arrthymia and back into a normal sinus rthym. The delay placed me at prolonged risk of the dangerous complication with atrial fibrillation of a blood clot forming in the heart, which could then travel to the brain for a stroke, or a lung for a pulmonary embolism. I spoke to a friend who had a long medical career, who told me the normal good practice in a hospital is to, every shift, do a "IV Patency Test" to make sure the IV has not become blocked, or dislodged, and is indeed in the vein and can flow properly. This was not done at all when shifts changed. If I had "coded" with that compromised IV, and needed advanced cardiac life support measures with lifesaving drugs applied, a response team expecting needed drug to be quickly entering, and not knowing the IV site had no patent (open) path, could have had a very bad outcome for me.
Edit 9-29-18: They sent me a form type letter about how they investgated after I "asked them to review my concerns".....I never asked them to review anything. They requested to talk to me after they saw my review. They said their investigation found the IV had become dislodged and infiltrated the surrounding tissue. No comment on the fact that no checking of the IV was done every shift which could have caught it before damage was caused, no comment about the diversion of needed medicine from the heart prolonging my time in A-fib, no comment about medication mixup on hospital discharge, no commet about falsifying the chart by ommission (coverup). Avoid this troubled hospital! I'm sure this review will soon vanish.
This place is so slow and they are so rude. You try to ask a question and they cut you off. They dont care for the patients. Spent almost 24hrs for a room and during that time o2 levels was at 80% and they wouldn't provide oxygen for several hours. Found out 3 fractures of the pelvis
If I could give 0 stars I would.
I went in for a hysterectomy.
Let's just say I was admitted overnight to the psych ward. Due to "no" beds avail.
The bathroom was locked, could not get toiletries or a phone for hours .
No one even knew what surgery I had. And when I asked for pain meds the nurse was rude and argumentative.
They never followed abdominal surgery protocol.
And when I said something they brushed it off and said "oh well"
DO NOT GO THERE
Edit
I went thru patient relations already. It's a joke. Because I didn't get a blood clot or something no one cares. It's fine. Never again will I give a dime to this hospital and will be filing with the board.
Took an hour to put us in a room disrespectful nurse they say their busy but chatting it up fiance having bad pains in her stomach from IUD never going back
They completely ignored a women who was screaming help me. One of the nurse's gave me Attitude and was being rude.
I had both my sons at this hospital one in 2013 and the second one in 2016 and the nurses were amazing with me and my sons. One of my sons was in the NICU for two weeks and the nurses were amazing with my son. They took very good care of him and I really appreciate it.
Zero stars if possible.
My elderly mother is in the so-called Observation Unit right now after having surgery today to help with blood clots and remove a filter. She did not ask to go to this hospital. She was told to go there by here cardiologist. He never even came to see her. Her heart is in a weakened state and no one seems to care. Her phone in the room has no cord, so no means of calling me. Had to leave a cell phone which worries me it might get stolen. The AC is not working proper and the room feels stuffy. The room has glass windows from floor to ceiling so all the heat is being drawn into the room, making. it hotter. Closing the blinds didn't hemp. Needless to say that it got hot in that room today. Staff told about it early on in the day. No one came to check on it. Nothing is being done when the staff is told something is wrong. Before the surgery when my mom was in the ER, they left her in the hallway. No heart monitor eventhough she's in her 70s with an admitting resting pulse of 160. She was in AFIB and still is as I write this review. The ER doctor left here in hallway for 8 hours in this condition. My mother mentioned heart and chest pains. No medicine given for pain or to help lower her pulse. No repeated EKG. I'm no medical doctor but this doesn't not sound how to run a hospital, especially an ER. Shameful.
If my mom is not released tomorrow, I'll be asking for her to be sent to another hospital that can care for it's patients. And like all the other negative replies on here, I expect to get the same generic response. One filled with fake empathy and asks me to reach out to the hospital via email to talk to the appropriate care team. Wonder how that will go given the level of customer service my family received thus far with Banner Thunderbird Hospital.
I leave this in summation as a warning to all thinking about going to this hospital. If you want to go to a hospital where the nurses are seen chatting with each other rather than tending to patients, doing each other's hair and not washing thier hands before touching medical equipment and doing homework instead of doing thier jobs... Banner Thunderbird Hospital is you're place. It felt like a high school more than a hospital. But hey... they offer nice hot patient rooms just like a sauna, no phone access so you're not bothered by family and get to worry more about the poor service so that you don't worry about what ails you. Those can be seen as positives, right? Best of luck if you are thinking of going here.... You're going to need a lot of lucky pennies if you go to Banner Thunderbird Hospital.
Been in the 80percent Empty ER 3 hours and have yet to even be acknowledged by an actual doctor!
Went into ER for highblood pressure/migraine/vomitting. Instead of treating me for my symptoms, I was forced into the crazy ward for 3-7 days. I was told that if I didnt self submit, he was going to call the police and they would take me in handcuffs to the crazy hospital down the street. 24 hours into my 4 star stay, the psych dr to ask me, why I was there in his dept, then released me 2 hours later. Worse experience in my life. Btw, I had private pay insurance, insurance was billed $12k...???
Absolutely freaking ridiculous. I've never seen a hospital so slow and wait times be six freaking hours. I'm trying to pass kidney stones and sitting in the emergency waiting room for 5 hours begging them for help. Ended up having to walk out and going somewhere else.I couldn't take it anymore. And I even have family members practicing there. And I find it amusing that because they get so many bad reviews all of their responses are copy/paste. Seriously, read some of the reviews. You'll pick up the pattern. There's 2 or 3 different ones. The ones that are the same are word for word.
Great Staff and Doctors! my husband was in ICU for a week and all the staff were exceptional!! Thank you
My Mom was admitted because of chest pains. The doctor wanted a stress test, but failed to order it. So my mom went 24 hours with no food waiting for a test that would never happen. My mother is a diabetic, the staff failed to monitor her blood sugar levels until I called and screamed at them to do so. Her levels were so low that they fed her dinner and scheduled the stress test in the morning. I'm sure they're going to try to charge us an extra night stay due to doctor incompetence. Do not go here! Imcompitence/neglect.
Horrible ER staff. My wife was bleeding to death, and the admitting staff treated us like hypochondriacs. When the ER Dr. saw her the Dr. immediately saw the situation for what it was and began emergency treatment. After being admitted a staff member dropped an oxygen tank on her head. We were later billed for the treatment she received from the injury they caused. We have been fighting with debt collectors over this ever since.
The staff was very professional and caring as well as helpful.
It saddens me to have to write something so bad about a hospital...My mother was in the hospital for recovery after a major surgery. The attention and assistant she revived was AWFUL. When I showed up to see her, she had no water, a dirty bed and no staff was to be found. She was in so much pain and no one was around to help. Her bed alarm went off for over 10 minutes, before a transporter, not a nurse. A transporter ran in to help. She said she was worried my mother had fallen. Yet no nurses came to help? She changed out my moms sheets, probably the only person there to actually help her. My mom was suppose to be getting a lot of fluids but no one had came back to check or bring her more. I had to hunt someone down to get help. I went over to the desk and all the nurses were just chatting. Two other rooms had alarms going off. They all ignored it. I ordered her lunch, it all came cold. Disgusting! When my mom expressed concern about an issue they said "Ok we will be right back in 5 minutes." 35 minutes passed. Again i had to hunt them down, because the handy dandy nurse call button doesn't seem to get anyone's attention. The complaints will go on.. To top it all off I heard the nurses talking bad about a patient. How unprofessional and cruel. They are clearly in the wrong profession. The people they are suppose to be caring for are sick and hurt. How can they be so careless?? This hospital was a joke. Worst place I have ever been.
Seems as they let go of up keep. This hospital has become filthy. My wife and I just had our 2nd, we're disappointed at house keeping. On the upside about 90% of staff are absolutely amazing!
The worse experience I ve had at a hospital, none of the staff are on the same page and no one seems to work with a sense of urgency. They immediately removed me from my wife and asked her if I was abusive. Wait times are absolutely ridiculous. Every time we would ask a question no one had an answer. The rooms are dirty and the drains don t work. I would recommend going to a different hospital to have your baby.
People are never on the same page.. careless and unprofessional.
