Easily one of the best and most consistently good bakeries in Portland. Fantastic service at every visit no matter how busy they are. Croissants: buttery and flakey. Pies: perfect. Cookies: not to be missed

Worth the mile and a half walk from my house! I'm new to town and needed my coffee fix, and after a little exploring, I ended up here. I had a simple iced coffee and a morning bun with black currants, and both were excellent. Comfortable and friendly environment. I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu!

While these guys have a great many things to choose from, I have to say their croissants are hands down the best in town! I crave them on the daily. Great staff and amazing seasonal treats. Some days are busier than others, but it's worth the wait!

The pastries here are always perfection, the coffee is always delicious and the staff is prompt and friendly. Baker & Spice champion excellence while humbly and earnestly serving our neighborhood. I m grateful they re part of my community.

Family birthdays, weddings, celebrations...this is my go to bakery for delicious, decadent cake. If I m placing an order for something specific, I drive over to place the order in person, since they usually have a sample out...it s that yummy.

Baker and Spice is hands down our favorite bakery in Portland. Everything we have had from their bakery is fantastic. Birthday cakes from their cake shop the Cakery have become our birthday tradition. Don t miss the carrot cake.

The best bakery I've ever found! Their croissants are perfect, their salami grab-and-gos are delicious, and their pecan scrappies are worth driving an hour each way for! (I would know, I live in newberg and still frequent this place!!) Everything I've ever had here has been amazing, and the atmosphere is wonderful as well.

It's a bit over priced and some of the cakes are mediocre. I have purchased a few whole cakes and several slices. The chocolate raspberry is delicious. I was disappointed by the pistachio as it had no flavor. Would be helpful if they offered samples or exchanges like New Seasons does (although to be honest I have never taken anything back to New Seasons) but for the price I feel like they should offer that service. The staff are neither super helpful nor friendly. However, it is nearby my home so I will probably keep going there.

These are the best bakers on the west side, and really good people. You MUST try the ham and cheese croissants, just fantastic. The pear handpie, dense and rich bread pudding, and scrappy (pecan roll type of a thing) are also essential. Covid specific: Placed an order online and picked it up 20 minutes later, super-fast and efficient. Called and let them know I was there, they brought the order to the door and I was off. So glad they re still baking through all of this!

I live in California, but when I get the chance to go to Portland, my first stop is Baker and Spice. Seriously. It is my favorite bakery that I have ever been to, and trust me I ve been to a lot of bakeries. Oink. I love almost everything they have there, but I especially love their sandwiches, coconut tartlets and lemon tartlets. And I love their cakes at the Cakery. Please go to Baker and Spice and change your life!

I'm a food person. I'm very particular about what I serve. The cakery has been an incredible find. Their cakes are as good tasting as my own, but their presentation is a whole lot BETTER. The cakes are beautiful and the frosting are delicious in the old world method of true buttercream. I can't say enough good about them.

Constantly out of stock. Tous Les jours isnt as good, but they always have what you came for and that's why they're always a hive of activity. Sad that this owner has that ever so Portland "meh, serve them dustbunies from under the oven, they'll still come" mentality.

I've been coming to this bakery since I was a kid. Their frosting is sweet and thick, and their cake moist but dense. I know not everyone likes their cake this way, but they make it exactly the way I like it. They've gotten a lot more creative in the past few years with cookies (the ranger cookie is a must) and cupcake flavors (the Cookie Monster is the perfect combo of cake and cookie). I would highly recommend!

This is by far the best bakery I have been to. My exercise group goes to Baker and Spice once a month to enjoy their fabulous products and coffee. What a great place to meetup with friends.

I live in SE now, but I went to high school at Wilson. Baker & Spice was such a crucial spot for me! At the time, 10 years ago, it was essentially the only shop in the neighborhood that really took teenagers seriously, and also the only place selling anything handmade and special. Running into even the most frustrating teachers there somehow humanized them, haha. Like it broke down this institutional social code for a brief moment, and we were just neighbors eating pastries and stuff. I don t spend as much time in the area now, but Baker & Spice remains a nostalgic favorite.

Hands down best bakery ever. I love trying something new every time I come here and I usually get at least 3 different things. There's so much flavor in every bite. This place is highly addicting.

Love (!!) this place. Such a lovely neighborhood bakery with friendly staff. A lot of the same faces year after year, they all seem to love working there. Can t go wrong with any pastry or dessert, and a yummy latte. Garden bread is my fave, but I do miss their cheese danish that they discontinued. The Cakery - their cake shop - is a few doors down and makes delicious cakes and other treats. We bought our wedding cakes from them and get our colleague birthday cakes there too. Stop by when you re in the neighborhood.

We ordered the Super Duper cake, chocolate cake with chocolate frosting.
It was incredibly sweet and very frosting forward. No one in my family was able to eat even a small slice (we left the outside frosting layer on our plates).
I m still giving four stars, as I could tell this bakery used high quality ingredients and the cake itself was attractive.
The cake was extremely dense (not fluffy) and the frosting was similar to a rich truffle.
I would suggest that if you don t like super duper rich desserts, pick a different item; or plan on just a tiny 1/2 slice per person.
Once again, the cake was of good quality. It just wasn t my personal taste.

Went for one pastry or cookie and came out with 3 different sweets and a loaf of bread! Everything looked too delicious to decide on just one item and they did not disappoint! The zucchini/carrot bread was one of my favorites! And it s hard to top their chocolate chip cookie.

Skip the regular coffee -- it is much too acidic and bitter -- and get an espresso drink or one of the fine teas, and enjoy Portland's finest French-style pastries. Try the best butter croissant outside of Paris or the coffee cake or a twist. If you are looking for a vegan treat, try the garden bread or a morning roll. The salads, soups, and daily specials showcase the culinary range of this kitchen.

The food here is amazing. I recommend it to everyone. I've lived two blocks away from them since they opened and have tried most of the items on the menu. The only item I really don't care for is the tea cake. Everything else is usually the best version of it that I've ever had- coconut cream pie and chocolate cream pie especially. They get busy pretty early, so you might need to plan on taking your stuff to go if you go there at 10:00 am on a weekend.

The whole wheat croissant is my favorite. But a close second is the chocolate cream tartlets or the lemon buttermilk cake. The pies and breads are all delicious. I would come here more often, except my clothes wouldn t fit any longer.

My daughter brought Stollen and Cranberry Buckle from this bakery for our Christmas festivities. Both were wonderful. We have Stollen every year, and this one is at the top of my list of great Stollen! The Cranberry Buckle, also great, reminds me of my Polish aunt's pastries :).... which I have very fond memories of! If you like dense flavorful cakes, this is the place to find them! Thank you!!!!

Nice friendly staff and a nice big selection of baked goods. Their savory puddings are one of my favorites, but their crumb cake is also extremely nice. Seemed to be popular with the coffee crowd as well, despite there being a well known coffee chain place nearby.

BEST BAKERY IN PORTLAND! I am serious about this. I love this place. My go-to orders are the rose petal black iced tea, Megan's Maple Twist, and any of their savory galettes. My husband and I also frequently order pies, bundts, etc. for parties and gatherings and guests are always impressed. One thing to note- they close on Mondays!

Beautiful baked goods that are of an amazingly high quality. Absolutely everything they make is made in-house and it is all fresh (day of bake). Try their scone and crumb cake! They can not be beat!
