I always look for an excuse to come here. The past...
I always look for an excuse to come here. The pastries and drinks are delicious, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy. Couldn't ask for more!

So, so yummy. And so, so happy they re a 10 min drive away, otherwise I d be there every day. Their Crumb Cake is to die for. But so is everything else. Good luck deciding!
Good bread and baked goods. Really good croissant. French man approved !
I love the danish, no matter what the seasonal fruit is, and chocolate crackle cookie. Wonderful bread. Great lunch options too. It's a good thing I do not live next door or I'd be fat and poor.
Such a great spot! So many amazing baked goods, you can not even list them all. Stop in and try!
This bakery is consistently good! They have seasonal baked goods as well as standard favorites. Some of my favorites are the Katie buns and savory bread puddings (warmed up).
Every pastry was so good! The almond spiral was probably my favorite, but it was hard to choose. I loved how soft and chewy the cookies were and the tea cake was delicious! Will definitely have to come back to try more treats. I ordered online the night before which made pickup the next day so easy.
So tasty! The seasonal savory galette is AMAZING!!! Love this spot. Worth the price
How can I sum up my love for this Portland Bakery. The employees appear to LOVE their jobs. Every day I go in there, I'm greeted with kindness. They care about me. They care about my daughter. This place is more than the wonderful pastries that they serve. This place creates community. For that, I am so thankful!
The best Portland Bakery in town!
Best bakery in town! Incredible desserts, cakes and savory treats - Baker & Spice is a wonderful spot to socialize and enjoy a little nosh. I recently moved away from Hillsdale and still love to go back for a treat when I can.
This is my favorite bakery in Portland! Everything I've gotten here is delicious. Highly recommend the scone and the seasonal tea cakes.
Was craving a good dessert and found them online. Coffee and dessert were great.
Their coffee is SO good. The croissant sandwiches are amazing. Everyone is really kind. 5 glorious stars out of five! <3
The pastries are decorative. Small seating area but worth the treats. Also no vegan options.
Home town, creative bakery... fresh organic ingredients and attention to detail
A bit pricey, but worth it for the occasional morning splurge!
Best chocolate croissant I've ever had -- perfectly flakey, buttery.
Never tire of their Harvest bread. Unparalleled scones.
Nice place to have morning coffee and a small bite.
The coffee and the cake both felt great. :D Service at 7am felt wonderful too. :)
This bakery feels like home to me, I love it! The people are beyond kind and get to recognize and then know you after a few visits. The coffee and tea beverages are expertly crafted, and the bakery items are delicious! My favorite is the whole wheat croissant. It rivals the best European croissants! I also recommend ordering your cakes and pies from here, or The Cakery a few stores up, which is the same company.
Friendly staff, good food choices, flatbread really delicious
Awesome bakery, highly recommend if you're in the area
Very popular bakery. Lots of selections. Price is also reasonable
Love this place! I've tried a multitude of different things here and all are delicious. Breakfast pastries, savory pastries, sandwiches, lunches, cappuccino are only a few of my favorites. Whenever I go to Portland (I'm in Salem) I plan time to stop by here.
One of my favorite Portland bakeries. Their Chocolate Cream Tartlet is one of the most delicious pastries in Portland, IMHO. Their cakes are first-rate and they usually have stock on hand at their cakery, if you forgot to order ahead and need a birthday cake. I also love their hand pies, their whole wheat croissant, the lemon tart. I could go on and on, but just go for yourself and try it.
Get there early and grab a morning bun fresh out of the oven! Warm cinnamon raisin goodness! Staff is so incredibly friendly!
A delightful local bakery and coffee shop. I had an iced chamomile lavender tea, which was delightful and refreshing, and a grilled cheese on sourdough which was tasty. The staff was friendly and helpful and service was fast. The place was busy, so keep your wits about you if you and a friend want a table!
They have all kinds of beautiful big pastries. They have a big bathroom and they have a family environment. Only had a soup with bacon in it so there's no vegetarian option since they do only once per day.
Love this place. Our favorite bakery in Portland. You can t go wrong with any of the offerings. Everything is delicious. Favorites are: Ham and cheese croissant, pecan scrappy, and coconut tartlets.
Our favorite bakery in Portland! We have an Airbnb and we always recommend this place to our visitors. Also try their cake store a couple stores down.
Today I met my friend here, and I ordered one shot of decaf espresso with croissants. I had good time this morning.
What's the hype?
Looking for breakfast and all I see is dessert. Maybe a great afternoon place to meet up.
Top-notch bakery. Great breakfast pastries that are savory and sweet, cakes and pies, bread, and even sandwiches.
What a great little bakery.... I usually stick with pastries and coffee and they have been great every time... Sometimes I will even get a piece of cake from the Cakery for an extra treat...
Being born in eastern europe, it's not easy to find "our style" bread in the Pacific Northwest, but this is the best I've found. So, why not five stars? Customer service is the issue here. No, the staff is not rude or anything like that. They just know that they are good and they do things their way. Specifically, you call to make sure a specific item is in stock and ask them if they could hold it for you until you arrive (half hour in my case). No! We don't do that! Is their answer. You try to order online only to find out that most items are "out of stock" even before they open. They may still be available, but not for online purchase. Basically, drive over and see what is available when you arrive. That's why I prefer shopping at my local Grand Central bakery. Their bread is not that great, but they try to treat their regular customers much better.
I discovered the wonders of this place bit by bit. First crunchy, gooey bread pudding, delicious tuna sandwiches, their pink cake, the ultimate birthday perfection. Then, we started getting pies for Thanksgiving pecan and maple
Cream, oh my! And it has become the only bakery I drive across town for.
I always check in when going SW.
Boutique Sugar Shop. Cakes with proper love. Staff is fantastic.
Great pastries, happy, helpful staff. Always a major hit at work.
Love both the cakery and bakery!! By far the best challah bread in the area!
Very good bread and cake selections. It is more of a sit down lunch spot, however
I so badly wish I could write Baker and Spice a nice review. I ve been going there for three years. Love the food but I ve had a few really bad experiences now and I ve just kind of had enough. Last year I found a slug in my sandwich. Totally grossed me out but whatever, it happens. It s fresh greens and that could totally happen anywhere. But when I told the staff they brushed it off. I thought that was weird. Then I had three bad experiences with the staff being kind of rude. Just weird, kind of impatient, surliness from 2 of the young women. After the third time I was like why am I going here? I don t feel welcome in this place at all. So I started going next door to Starbucks. Food is blah but the coffee is decent and the people there are always friendly. I love to support the little guy but I just can t support Baker and Spice anymore.
Too much to say about this place. Been going here for bakery sandwiches since it was the Hillsdale bakery. Since then it has definitely only gotten better. Their recipe for doe is out of this world good. From their sandwich bread to their pastries everything the make here taste good. If you re a fan of sweats and are there when the have pecan scrapie do your self a favor and get one. You ll only need one, unless you re trying to be diabetic.
Great local vibe, feels like a hub in the community. Not a lot of power if you are bringing a laptop to work.
Great bran muffins, not the dry 'I'll never eat a bran muffin' kind (you could even get a kiddo to love'em), flaky warm morning pastry with season fruit, lemongrass tea, superb cakes and pies (and the recipe book if you want to make at home). I've been eating here for years and still every one of my bites is accompanied by a, "mmmmm"
Bread was terrific, I bought three loads of sour dough and some sweet treats before flying back to Houston.
Delicious brewed Stumptown espresso, cookies, cakes, biscuits, savory food stuffs oh my!
This is my go to "wtf do we eat for breakfast?!?" place when we're lacking in cooked goods or in excess of lazy. The savory croissant is to die for paired with a piping hot mocha, the cookies are great for an afternoon treat and everything else is just too tempting!
You are doing an admirable job accommodating customers during this time!
Baker and spice is so warm and friendly. The best neighborhood hangout.
I live for their coffee cake. It s a huge slice of seasonal fruit awesome, that I end up finishing before I even get home. Their chai lattes are also amazing. I try to stop in every time I m in the neighborhood in the spirit of treat yo self. Friendly staff and also a cozy place to meet a client or friend for lunch and/or treats! They sell delicious whole pies and coffee cakes too.
This is a great little bakery / coffee shop. They've always had terrific espresso. Consider them if you want a cake. They're a bit pricey, but they make maybe the best cake in Portland.
Baker & Spice may very well be one of the cutest like bakeries around. They're always sampling some delicious item, the employees are really sweet, and the garden bread is to die for! Interesting cross between carrot and zucchini bread.
We ve been coming here for 5 years since we lived in hillsdale. We d walk through the rain or snow or sun to come and catch the gooodness when we first woke up. We still drive back now that we ve moved. I absolutely love their salami grab n go sandwich and my son is obsessed with the croissants. If we re lucky we can grab a coffee cake before they are all gone. By far the most delicious coffee cake I ve ever had! The staff is lovely, the ambiance is lovely. We are customers for life!
Favorite neighborhood bakery. Always clean, always busy, friendly staff and quick service. Don t let the lines scare you they are very efficient !
I love the food but the rules suck. We arrived at 10:55. I ordered a bread pudding cupcake to go. My wife attempted to order a tuna sandwich. We were told that we would have to wait in line again because lunch orders will not be taken until 11:00 AM. I noted that it is now 10:57. The clerk said, "Sorry, if we took your order than they would have to do this for everyone." I then asked for one of the salami sandwiches that are pre-made with out cheese. Response:" This is not possible at anytime as those sandwiches are made with cheese and cannot be made to order without cheese!" We had planned on getting a couple of sandwiches and a chocolate torte to go. We ended up with a cupcake and a bad taste from the rules that prevented us from buying lunch because we were 2 or 3 minutes too early.
The pastries and bread are amazing here. It can be pretty cramped on the weekends. Try everything!
Amazing bakery! Staff and baked goods are excellent! Thank you for all the years!
Terrific coffee ... Unforgettable tea cakes ... Especially the rhubarb ones in early summer. VERY impressive.
It was good. I had a hand pie and it was very good. Their bread pudding and pecan roll were good too. I'd say it would be more of a two $$ place but it was quite good. Very good though.
Cozy and popular place during the weekend. I got a drip coffee which was good and a pastry that I've never had before. There are lots of options for lunch or breakfast I would recommend this place
OMG! Go here! Try ANYTHING it's all unbelievably delicious!!!
I was really surprised to see cellar door coffee here! Really good cookies and cake with some of the flakiest croissant pastries you'll find. I had the maple twist and the special Flatbread and it was all so good I had to sneak back for a cookie.
Great place for some pastries. Excellent savory scones.
Fresh pastries, sandwiches, and desserts made in site. Tasty espresso-based coffees. Friendly staff. Prices are a little high, but quality is worth it.
Great neighborhood bakery. Staff is SO friendly. Great place to go for breakfast or lunch. Love their tea cakes, garden bread, coffee cake, sandwiches. They make THE BEST bran muffins. Seriously! Savory treats are amazing as well. Pies! Breads! Everything is wonderful there.
Our family loves this fabulous bakery! Their bread is chewy and crusty and fresh. I always stop by for their buns when we make hamburgers or cupcakes on a special occasion. Their service is friendly too!
Yummy bakery. Great place to bring family, though space is TIGHT.
As Oprah commonly says, "I LOVE BREAD". If you love bread, or if you don't love bread but want to love bread, check this place out, cause they have bread. And pastries. Great bread, great pastries.
One of the best bakeries in Portland. The Katy Buns, a sweet honey infused pastry are to die for. Also has great fresh bread and delish sandwiches!
Very, very overpriced and uncomfortable! Terribly unfriendly, distracted service, ZERO VEGAN FOOD OPTIONS. In Portland. Really?! Normally I'd support local businesses but this time you're better off at Starbucks next door!
