I have been here a few times in the past 4 years. Celebrated my birthday, brought family to eat and share a good experience! Hugo's has the best Authentic Elevated Mexican cuisine. The tortillas are just like how my grandmother made with nixtamal. The mole is delicious! If you are looking to eat good and nice ambiance this is the place to try.

Good atmosphere. Very comfortable and above all the treatment. Since the valet arrives and everyone who attends you an excellent service. I recommend the Shrimp with Mojo de Ajo. Delicious !!! And for dessert the Churros with cajeta.

I've had some mediocre Mexican food in Houston. This place is the one exception so far. The ingredients seem fresh, well combined, nearly "home made," and flavorful. Their menu incorporates many different "zones" of the country. You can eat yucatan's pibil, veracruz's huachinango, or monterrey's Cabrito. So much to explore. I will be coming back here. Excellent service at the bar.

I live at least an hour away from this place but every year for my birthday, my brother always treats me to Hugo's. I never leave disappointed and the food is always amazing. I look forward to next year. I don't like getting older but I do like Hugo's.

Yum! What a delight! I went with some friends to indulge during restaurant week. We had a great time! There is a great ambiance, AND THE FOOD...Hugo's had been on my list of places to go since moving to Houston, and I am so glad that I finally made it there! The duck was delicious, but the chipotle chocolate dessert was brilliant! We will definitely be returning!

Hugo's is awesome. Loved every part of our meal. Had the mezcal tequila blend margarita loved it. Had the grilled octopus app which was definitely a highlight! Also the queso flameado which was bigger than expected and very tasty. I had the lamb shank the colors and fresh veggies made the dish. The lamb was seemingly slow cooked and tender falling apart(perfect). A wonderful blend of green beans, garbanzo, and spinach in a salsa like sauce, never had anything like it but seems like a wonderful mix of mexican tastes, and not too spicy. My wife had the cabrita(goat)wrapped in a leaf I ate her leftover goat and enjoyed it although I mixed it with my leftover lamb salsa because I enjoyed that so much. Lastely desert we had the flourless cake and it was solid although nothing to write home about. the churros and hot chocolate our neighboring table looked better.

We love the churros rellenos con chocolate, ceviche, tostadas, pulpo, chapulines, and the waiters are great. We got an order of churros that weren t up to par so they brought out 2 new servings done right AND more hot chocolate (real hot chocolate). Servings are small but delicious. Wish we lived next door!

Upscale, Mexican cuisine where dishes are given a new taste. I personally expected much more from a restaurant of this caliber. Famous Mexican dishes like Mole were given a twist and when brought looked very delicious. Upon tasting the food I was disappointed as the food looked better than it tasted. I felt like the salsa/sauce on each dish wasn't savory. Overall an upscale and pricey place to take family and friends to try Mexican cuisine with a fresh twist, but I personally would leave it at that.

It used to be tremendous as continually and the body of workers used to be fantastic in making certain visitors had been safe. We sat on the patio and had a lovely lunch. Will be lower back soon!

Don't eat at this restaurant, upscale is absolutely not how I would describe this restaurant it took an hour for our table to get drinks then another hour for the food and then at the end of the night the very rude server refused to split the bill so he could get his gratuity on a 500$ bill instead of on the individual bills so he squeezed a 16$ tip out of me where if I was billed individually he would have made half that or less especially for how little he did and how rude he was. I will never eat at this place again and I will make sure no one I know will eat at a place with such dishonest practices. The manager when spoken to said "sorry it's out of my hands" Can you believe that bs all restaurants use the same billing software on those touch screens they can do whatever they want but the server chose not to do his job and so did the manager. Worst experience ever and very expensive definitely an over rated place to eat.

The food and service here is phenomenal. This was my first visit and I was thoroughly impressed. This is not your average Mexican food restaurant. Hugo's raises the bar. I will defined my become a regular here.

Absolutely incredible meal in a comfortable space with friendly service. We had margaritas (the slightly spicy lunch one and the Gran reposado... Preferred the lunch margarita), lechon, Pollo enchiladas, carne brava, and the bread pudding dessert (with the cinnamon coffee). All were delicious and thoughtfully prepared.

Went for Sunday brunch and am now wishing I had tried the regular experience. Don't get me wrong the food and service were good overall (some hits and some misses) but my issue is for the price. I don't think the food & drinks were worth what we paid. If they want to charge $35 per buffet, I think they should make it up with some awesome drink prices but they don't.

Beautiful atmosphere, great service, delicious and inventive cocktails. Definitely somewhere to take someone who you want to impress. Loved the shellfish and rice entree. Reminded me of a spicier version of bouillabaisse!

Another tremendous meal with authentic Mexican cuisine, 2017 James Beard Award winner. Only complaint was background noise this evening. Hugo house margueritas are fine. Wife had carne brava, rare, which is exceptionally tasty. I had bsby pig (cochinita pibil), which was savory and moist, really enjoyable. Son had barbecoa (lamb), which he enjoyed very much. We eat here with each visit to Houston.

Plan to try his other two restaurants next.

My son and I went to Hugo s for the first time yesterday and we absolutely loved it. The food was some of the best we ve ever had. We went around 12:30 during brunch. I had the appetizer potato taco and my son had the carnitas. The service was amazing and we really loved our server, Gildardo. We will definitely be back next time we are in town and hope we have Gildardo as our waiter!

The food was good, but like most high end places, it was super expensive and you don't get much. We went for lunch because we had a baby with us and it was fine. The servers were attentive, but not super friendly.

I had a reservation at 11 am on a Sunday. We showed up a few minutes earlier and we were seated right away, hostess was efficient, professional and very personable.

Miriam was our server s name I believe. Everything was perfect from beginning to end. Restaurant week menu for brunch was just the right amount and it was absolutely delicious.

Managers and staff are doing a fantastic job at that restaurant and we could not have been more pleased with our experience there. We will definitely be back.

Hugo's is always wonderful. Excellent food and great service. These are first-class Mexican meals in a friendly, informal environment. Noisy, energetic ambiance. Music some nights. Probably not for children.

Astoundingly good food! Great appetizers. Try the Pulpo al carbon. The ceviche is bright and flavorful. The lechon was great. In the entrees the duck and mole was rich and satisfying. The cabrito was excellent. My only complaint was that I wanted more. There is also a very nice vegetarian menu. One of our party had a lentil croquette that was delicious. After dinner, indulge in the cafe de olla and do not miss the churros, which comes with a cup of Mexican chocolate. Hugo's has always been a favorite of mine. While it can be a little pricey, it is worth it. Definitely come to Hugo's.

To sum it up it one sentence, Hugo's is a pricey meal, but you will go home very happy. That's what happened when we went for dinner on a Friday night. When we arrived, they had valet parking available. The restaurant was busy, but we had made a reservation. I'd highly recommend doing this beforehand if coming on a weekend.

When we were seated, we were given complimentary spiced peanuts. We were told the most popular margaritas were the Gran Reposado (made with Reposado Tequila, Grand Marnier, lime, and simple syrup) for $12 or the Hugo Rita (tequila, Triple Sec, agave, and lime) for $10.50. I went with the Gran Reposado with salt. This was a fun experience as they shake the margaritas tableside. The margarita was great, and I would order it again.

Overlooking the menu, we went with:

-Pulpo Al Carbon (grilled octopus, onions and peppers, chipotle tomatillo salsa, and tortillas) for $15
-Callo De Hacha (pan-seared scallops over sweet corn bread with rajas con crema) for $25
-Churros Rellenos (churros stuffed with dulce de leche, Mexican hot chocolate, and housemade chocolate ice cream) for $10

Everything we ordered was absolutely incredible. Try it for yourself. I can't even pick a favorite between the Pulpo Al Carbon or the Callo De Hacha! They are both amazing in their own ways. We ended the night with the Churros Rellenos. This was also another fun experience as they prepare the hot chocolate tableside. I'm very particular about my desserts, and I would say that I daydream a lot about those churros. The mixture of cold chocolate ice cream with the warm churros stuffed with dulce de leche is a winning combination. I would highly recommend coming to Hugo's and experiencing everything that we ordered. It'll be a pricey night, but you will remember it as one of your finest meals in Houston.

Visited Hugo's for lunch, and it was phenomenal. Currently they have a special menu for Houston restaurant week, and I ordered the enchiladas de res with tamal and the tres leches. Each of these courses was a knockout punch on its own. The tamal was the perfect balance of flavors. Just when I thought that the tamal would be a tough act to follow up, the enchiladas de res proved me wrong. The savory and tender brisket paired so well with the acidity of the sauce above the enchiladas. I often find brisket hard to eat due to my aversion to fat that is not rendered, but this brisket certainly knocked it out of the park. To finish off an already amazing meal, dessert came. The tres leches was moist and juicy with the perfect balance of sweetness, with berries and an acidic drizzle on the side to cut the sweetness with an acidic splash of flavor.

It would be a sin to not acknowledge the excellent service we received, our glasses never saw themselves empty of water, the bar provided an excellent drink that our server mixed tableside. Our server who's name I sadly didn't catch(or didn't hear) was phenomenal. His reccomendations and help were spot on for I am not knowledagble in authentic Mexican cuisine.

TLDR:excellent food, excellent service, and an excellent pricing on the meal during lunch time.

I hope to continue to come here and visit the chefs other restaurant (xochi) to give it a try as well!

On 8/10/19 I arrived at Hugo's with my party of 10 just in time for our reservation, which by the way was made a month in advance. The hostess informed us it would be just a few minutes while they readied our table. A few minutes turned into 30 before we were seated. Ugh. Now, sitting, we order drinks and a few apps and perouse the menus. Drinks took at least 15 minutes to come which during that time some including myself had emptied our waters. We ask for refills and they say sure...15 more minutes at least for water refill. We order finish our apps and order our entrees. Round 2. Waiter asks if I would like another cocktail and I say sure along with the water I had requested God knows how long ago. He almost lols and says oh yeah it's still coming...lol. Finally, entrees arrive but oops, the waitstaff took away most of our silverware with our dirty appetizer plates. We ask for silverware and 5 minutes later - nothing. Finally, one of us goes to the bar to pick up silverware for us all. Another 10 minutes passes and we are eating already, finally someone comes with the silverware we were missing for our now sitting entrees that we had requested at least 10 minutes prior...lol - too late. We eat, and don't get me wrong, the food is phenomenal, but now it's time for the check. Ugh. Waiter brings one check and says if we want it split in couples we should have asked before we started...we did do that!!! Now, many more minutes pass, checks come split, and per usual they treat themselves to a nice 20% gratuity for all their great service. LOL. After a discussion with the manager, he decides to take it off and let us tip as we please. Many more minutes pass. Finally, our checks arrive, split without a mandatory 20% gratuity. We sign and leave a full 3 hours after we sat down!!! Ridiculous! This was after waiting 30 minutes for our "reserved" table. The food is good but not slow, bad, generous self-tipping service good. I may come back for the brunch buffet (self-serve) one of these days but definitely never again for dinner. Dios mio!! If you want 5 stars act like a 5 star restaurante!

For an upscale Tex Mex, I expect more. 5 for the desserts, 3 for the food, so 4 stars. Place is hidden, you can't tell from the street that there is a restaurant there. I sign would help.
