Put in an app, talked with someone named Jason over text. I was asked several questions about what I was looking for, etc. The kicker is Jason tells me that he will send all my answers and info over so they can be prepped and ready to go at 5pm.
Get there, no one greets, I walk up to the counter and the lady quickly gets a salesman, Ruben. Ruben is super friendly and I recognize his name from all the reviews as being talked about positive, so I quickly dismiss that I just wasted time this morning answering questions for Jason.
Ruben is super positive, describes the program, and answers some basic questions. He gathers all my documents I brought, and then moves to the rest and introduces a new guy, a manager in training.
Ruben is very distracted through the process, and the new guy can't go more then three clicks without needing to consult Ruben. The new manager in training can't type, he literally hunts and pecks every character, painstakingly slow... which wouldn't be bad if he didn't mess up not once, not twice, but three times! I literally repeated the same info multiple times per round, and then had to endure three rounds of typing in the same information. Come to find out... it is the new guy's third day on the job... and he is being thrown to the wolves with no one watching and training, just 'available' if he has questions.
Finally after the third time of losing data, Ruben shows the new guy where to put in the information correctly and tells me let's go look at cars. Whew. Finally!
It's 547pm at this point... I have now wasted an hour and twenty minutes trying to get an app taken! Less than 30 seconds after we were outside, Ruben starts in with 'so yeah man, you should totally come back tomorrow to look at cars. I just don't want you to feel rushed is all.' I appreciate the sentiment, and say show me the cars that fit that payment. We move along and the first vehicle I'm shown is a truck. I had explicitly stated multiple times that I don't want a truck.
I ask him to show me some SUVs that might fit the payments. He again goes into how I should really just come back tomorrow. Awkward as hell situation, I thank him and ask if we can use the remaining time to at least look at the lot. He sighs and we walk around with him not saying a word, until I again ask what cars are available for the payment? He is visually annoyed and starts spitting out car after car's name. By this point, I get it - he just wants to go home and doesn't want to be here any longer. I started to head towards a Trailblazer and he stops and says 'ya you know if you can just get tomorrow off work then you can come take my car and you can go drive to the other lots and find something or whatever.
At this point, I've had enough. An hour and a half of practicing patience with a guy who can't type, doesn't know the system, doesn't have anyone who wants to teach him the system, and now I'm dealing with a salesman who literally is doing everything buy saying 'Just leave so I can go home'. I tried to explain to Ruben that the experience had been terrible, and now it is obvious he doesn't want to be here any longer. The second I called him out, he turns around and says ' no no we can just stay all night then and find a car '.
I didn't say two words as I walked inside, grabbed my bag, and left. There was another person helping the new guy finally, and he looked at me like I was an idiot as I was leaving. As I left, I looked back and saw Ruben smiling from ear to ear, obviously happy he was about to be off work.
Congrats. You got me to leave. I would hope that somehow I could talk to a manager, and explain my experience so that maybe no other potential customer would ever go through such a horrible experience. In reality, somehow I think this is the culture of this store, and not an isolated incident. I'm sharing this story in hopes that even just one person reads how terrible this experience is, and steer clear of AutoStart at all costs!
