Automatic Slims Inc Review

I have never been so underwhelmed by a dining experience in my life, and I would recommend anyone looking for a good place to eat in Memphis just skip right over this one. We visited for brunch and expected to wait, knowing it would likely be a busy time. However, the hostesses were disorganized and unprofessional. They did not write our names down and seated multiple people before us because they had forgotten we were waiting. After we finally made it to our table, we quickly noticed our waitress was very clearly over sat. There were empty tables that sat uncleaned for the entire length of our visit despite the amount of people still waiting. We waited over 2 hours in total for our truly lackluster food, which was served cold. I don t mind waiting for food, but it should at least be warm when it gets to me- why should I be stuck waiting for food that was clearly ready 30 minutes ago? Other diners in our section seemed to have similar experiences, and the wait staff thought it appropriate to both yell back and forth to each other about it and argue with the customers about their complaints. All in all we spent 50 bucks and 2 hours waiting on food that I probably wouldn t even feed my dog. Would not recommend.

I asked for a bloody Mary 1st time didn't get and celery or banana peppers and i was noticing everyone else was getting those items so i got another one with those items and i seen her making it an she was using her bare hands after collecting our menus and the ppl next to us money i was kinda disgusted with this

This is one of my favorite brunch spots. I came after church with a friend. The Sunday crowd was not too bad for a party of two. We were seated upstairs with a nice venue of the downstairs. The music was good, however, the establishment must have been using a free Spotify account because we kept hearing the Spotify commercials. This did not bother me, but I did think it was funny.

We ordered some mimosas (lil over 2 bucks a piece) and I had the chicken and waffles with potatoes and ordered a side of eggs. My friend had the French toast.

Our food came out quick and our waitress was super nice. I mentioned to the waitress that there was a piece of paper from a butter wrapper was in my eggs. (I still ate the eggs nothing was wrong with them). Then the establishment comped my whole meal. YAY!! Awesome customer service. My food was great and will continue to patronize this place.

Wow!!! This is a must have stop for Memphis! Don't miss a chance to have some of the best chicken and waffles I have ever had, and feel free to add the $3 (full glass of champagne) mimosa! Would give more stars if possible!

Great brunch spot in Memphis. The wait can sometimes get long due to popularity, but it's walking distance from the Peabody and a great place to stop at if you're visiting. Bar seating is also available to skip some of the wait.

Made a reservation in person this afternoon after walking around and just happening upon the place. The waitress/hostess took our name and number and the time for our reservation. We showed up about 10 minutes before our reservation and checked in. The host then said he did not have our reservation. One gentleman attempted to find it, go talk to someone. He came back and said our only option at that point was to wait at the end of the walk-up list for 30-40 minutes. At this point it is 6:20, we have a concert to attend at 8. So the 2nd gentleman asked what we wanted to do. I discussed with my husband and responded that we could wait for 15 minutes before we needed to go elsewhere. He looked at me, rolled his eyes, and then walked away. I thought he was going to see what he could do, but he came back a moment later with silverware to seat another group, and he completely ignored us. I'm extremely dissatisfied with the lack of customer service. Don't make your problem (losing our reservation) our problem. Would not recommend unless you can get a confirmation number for your reservation...but I would imagine even that would be too complicated.

I haven't eaten a proper meal here, but I do enjoy their appetizers and cocktails. They have an extensive cocktail menu and they offer varying specials throughout the week. It's a great place for drinks after work.

This joint was PACKED! EXCELLENT brunch menu and the mimosas were lovely. There was a wait and the front waiting area was cramped. We ended up standing next to a table which I'm sure was awkward for them. We finally found a spot at the bar and the food tasted great, service at the bar was exceptional. Can't wait to return.

Bad experience, large party, one waitress, got my food after 99 per cent of our party had finished. Mandatory tip of 20% + 2.5% surcharge for using a card. Food was brought out and diners were asked who had each item, which allowed those in close proximity to the server to be first. The only plus for me was the redfish was good. No bread and repeated requests for lemons was forgotten. Needed help!

I was here for a company party. They served apps which were very good. Cheesecake was good too!
I hope they fixed the air-conditioning because it was uncomfortably warm.

This review has nothing to do with the food because unfortunately I have not had a chance to taste it. My party of visited a couple of months ago for brunch and the manager told us they had run out of everything that day for brunch and that the trucks were not running due to covid. Of course I totally understood but we came in from Texas and was referred by someone to this restaurant. The manager or whoever I thought was a manager told me that their name was Kris with a k and gave me a number that was supposedly his personal cell so that whenever I returned to town he could "take care" of my friends and my's food. I called the restaurant today and was surprisingly told that the only Kris that works there is a lady, not a man and then when I tried to call the cell phone number provided there was no answer and no voicemail! I have no idea if the staff thought it was funny to play jokes that day and send me someone random that could pass as a manager but it is very disappointing....

Decent spot for brunch. I had a bloody Mary, which wasn t the best, but I was very satisfied with my omelette.

Really called Automatic Slim's, it has a great atmosphere, great service (our waiter was Reg, and he was great) and fair prices. All in all, well worth coming!

The brunch was on point! Lots of options, and they all looked delicious. I was with a party of 6, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our entrees. I will recommend and return!

This is a super cool little place! Unique decor. Cool upstairs loft seating for a few lucky people. It's tight quarters, and it was packed--testament to how good the food and drinks are. We went for Sunday brunch. Chicken and waffles was divine--enormous serving size. My friend got Slim's Scramble--a decent amount of food that he ate faster than anyone ought to--he said he just couldn't stop doing the fork to mouth thing because it was So Good.

I called and asked were they doing dine in and the female worker (I don t know her name) hung the phone up in my face and refused to answer once I called back that s not how you treat people especially me being a combat veteran of Afghanistan poor customer service

Couldnt even get a employee to acknowledge our existence at "host" stand. Was not the only potential customers to be ignored and finally just leave. Try Huey's next door, they want your business and have great service.

Decent food, a tad pricey and could use some deep cleaning. Don't think I would return.

Love this place. We have been several times and each time the food is delicious. The last time we went in April 2019 for lunch they even made my 19 month old food! The shrimp and grits are delicious!

Went for brunch and had the chicken n waffles. My food was good but cold, wife had the baked salmon and eggs benedict she said it wasn't bad. I went with 3 stars because we both thought it was ok

Not too many people there on Thursday night. Food was cold by the time it was served. The waffles and duck would have been much tastier if it were hot.

Very pleased to have Vietnamese sandwiches make their way to the Memphis. I got the vegetarian sandwich. Not sure if it was on the menu, but they definitely have one. They make it with tofu and veggies. It was good, though had different seasoning than the sandwiches I'm used to in Oakland Memphis,. Fun to taste a different version of a familiar dish. Yum.

Awful service waitress brought me two dirty glasses and one had a lipstick ring around the rim. Waitress was very rude. Very disappointed

Food was great! Needed an extra pair of hands on service.

Customers be aware. Me and my friends met up for brunch. Sat at the table by the kitchen and literally watch them touch people food with their bare hands. No gloves on and walk the plates out and serve food. The waiter and waitresses waited other tables, went back to the kitchen to pick up orders, touch food bare hands as if checking to see if hot, and serve them. Hands not being washed or gloves being worn. They waited other others tables, cleared tables off, go back to the kitchen, check food by touching with bare hands, and serve the food. Even the bar tender checked people food with bare hand that ordered at the bar before taking them their food. This went on for awhile and we decided to leave. We will not be eating there.

I had very tasty blueberry pancakes. I didn't even need syrup! Plus the huge mimosa!

I ordered two of the chicken and waffles to go. I finally got home an hour later and open the containers. Horrible. All the waffles had this burnt coating of black flakes. I can not believe the kitchen would send this out to an consumer. I will never visit those place again.

The service could've been better, but I'm pretty sure our server was new. The food was outstanding and shined above any negatives. Nice atmosphere as well.

The food was overpriced and mediocre and then my husband got sick the next day. I read other posts that people have been sick after eating there. Don't risk it.
I have seen positive reviews on Yelp regarding the brunch, but I didn't have that it's possible that it is better. I think the Google reviews are more accurate. I don't know if this is true, but I have heard restaurant owners complain that establishments can pay Yelp to remove negative reviews. I was very disappointed because the last time I was here I loved it and was excited to share it with my family. It's sad. The location and building are great. I really wish the food and service lived up to it.

Great brunch place. I haven't been there yet for just lunch bc of my work schedule. But we try to go for brunch most weekends. It gets busy quick but so worth the wait.

Went during downtown dining week. Great food, great deal. If you like Martinis they have a whole page to choose from.

Great brunch. Perfect mimosas to get the Sunday going. Amazing waffles! Automatic slims has a very different vibe compared to other brunch places in Memphis, more like something you'll find in a bigger city. Definitely worth it!
Update: I tried the omelette and its pretty basic.

Awesome place! We stopped in during Downtown Dining Week for an awesome meal. The service was great and the food was fantastic. We definitely plan to return.

It sports a very hip decor with a modern atmosphere. I had the Blackened Salmon Eggs Benedict and was very impressed at how balanced the favors are. It's a very good dish. I also had one of their $3 Bloody Marys which was also quite good and had a nice spicy kick. I wish it has been a bit more dressed up, though. For $3 I don't expect a whole garden, but some olives would have been nice.

If you have a large party, reconsider this venue. It will not be a pleasant experience booking.

Waited over an hour to get seated because the food is worth the wait. Finally got seated and come to find out others had been waiting for their food for over an hour too. For a popular brunch spot, they don't have it together at all. Service was awful and they run around like they have never been busy before. Got up and left our table after waiting 10 min to even see our waiter.

The seating was subpar, the chairs were in terrible need of repair. The food was pricey but it is downtown. Overall the food was good, I will not be back any time soon. We also had the mamosa bong which was mostly orange juice but for an extra 5.00 they added another bottle of champagne. The Waitress was a bit scattered and we were a party of 10. Food did come out fast, some items were wrong and drinks were hard to get from her.

I had very horrible customer service here this past Monday night. The manager named Chris was very rude and unprofessional. When he came to my table about a drink order that was watery he smelled very loudly of cigarettes. He said that all of the drinks were made the same but clearly that was not the case because the one that had been previously brought out to me was nothing like the first drink I had. He then proceeded to tell me he was going to charge me for another drink. The was the worst service I have had in years. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I went here for birthday drinks with me friends and instead of leaving happy I left really disappointed.

Had brunch today and it was amazing ! I had the automatic omlete with a cinnamon waffle and it was beyond amazing with the constant flow of mimosas! Service and scenery is A+ so you can't go wrong ! I recommend to make reservations ahead of time.

Chill atmosphere and live music. Monday's they have $4 martinis and they are great!!! The buffalo chicken eggrolls are good. I recommend you trying.

Our waitress was fantastic. She was great and attended to our group of 9's needs with haste and charm. Food was excellent all around for our Brunch. Blackened Salmon Eggs Benedict was a favorite amongst our group.

Really yummy and hip place. Reasonable prices for such a trendy place.

Food was good! Service was slow. The three stars is due to the credit card fee. I shouldn t have to pay a fee to use a credit card at a restaurant. Seems like either they cannot afford the transaction fees from the companies or they don t want a record of gross income for taxes. Either way, I shouldn t have to pay the fee.

Wow. I haven't had a meal at Automatic Slim's since 1995. I didn't know they were still open.

Im in love with this spot, the brunch is delicious along with their service. Our waitress Brooke was amazing, she was so prompt and polite. This was my second time visiting and I have included this in my monthly budget. The Food was delicious. I got the steak and eggs, which was cooked to perfection and not to mention the mimosa's OMG!!!! Im in love with this place especially the automosphere, its a great place for a Brunch DATE or a Morning with the Girls.

Great brunch menu. $3 mimosas and bloody Marys and they offer drink bongs if you have a lot of you drinking too!
It's often pretty busy at brunch times though so you may have to wait or book a table during the week as you can't make reservations on the day.
Got good service and great food - even whilst they were jam packed however.

Overall it's ok. We had Saturday branch. They massed up my wife omelet order, they didnt gave me the side of fresh veggies.
This was our second time in the place, first time was amazing this time the service was bad, unprofessional lazy and very slow.
It was packed like the last time, so maybe the manpower they had today was just bad..
I dont know if will come back the third time.

Got the Salmon Benedict over creamed spinach and it was AMAZING! Service was also amazing. Love this place for breakfast/brunch.

Chicken and waffles were amazing, never had anything quite like it.

Maybe we hit this at just the right time for brunch, but we had no wait and fantastic service - helpful and speedy. Cranberry mimosa was fantastic, hashbrowns were cooked just crispy enough without being burnt, and my oreo waffle was great - Oreos actually in the batter, not just crushed on as a topping. Also loved the music and whole vibe to it.

Definitely busy on a Saturday morning, but the brunch (and the $2.50 mimosas) are worth it! Delicious food and friendly staff.
