The entrance is a little unspectacular but leads to a wonderful art deco bar serving quality food and drink (good coffee). Three screens fitted with comfy seats showing something for everyone. Friendly staff and pleasant customers. Most enjoyable!

Good little cinema, though looking a bit frayed in places now. Cafe/bar upstairs is great for a coffee or a beer (selection of the latter is fine, but nothing special). I haven't tried the food here.
Also I should mention that I noticed other patrons bringing wine into the cinema with them, something I may have to try next time myself.
On the cinema screens themselves, there's no IMAX - just 3 small-ish ones. They do the job perfectly well, but they do show adverts (about 10 minutes) before the trailers start. Much more civilised than the big multiplexes.
I like this place a lot, but recently had a bad experience. I sat at the back seats at row J in front of screen 3. The sound was very poor there. My friend agreed with me. I'll never buy tickets for that row again.
We were a family of 4 - denied access to the theater!! Apparently, with absolutely no notice or advance warning, the matinee showing of Yesterday was only for Mothers and their babies. So, the staff denied access to the movie for my wife and my two kids. Apparently, it would be against company policy and the LAW for us to attend the showing! Really??! Very disappointing.
So lucky to have such a great cinema in Cambridge. Their film festival is amazing, one of the best in the country apparently, and their special screenings and spot on art house selection makes it a dream for cinephiles. It is pricey though, even with a membership.
No A/C in a movie theatre. Don't even want to think what is like there in the summer. Ticket prices are well over priced given that there is no AC or it does not work. Screen is also very small and sound quality is poor.
Good cinema providing good range of films for all tastes. Conveniently placed centrally in Cambridge for good transport links. Has own bar and snacks. Booking online straight forward and can choose one seats as well
My favourite cinema! Lovely atmosphere, has a nice bar (you can bring drinks into the screens too) which also does food. Focuses on more artistic films, so won't often have the big Hollywood blockbusters, but does show quirky films and classics.
Convenient location and not too pricey, but audio volume was slightly low for our screening of The Post and the projection was noticeably tilted(!), which is disappointing for an Arts Picturehouse...
The Arts Picturehouse became my family's oasis over this summer. We often hypothesize that most Indie movie theaters worth their salt have A. No Windows, B. A Maze-like Interior, and C. Fantastically Engaging and Eclectic Staff. This Cinematic gem has all three for sure: so much so that you are never quite sure what time it is inside of the building.
There are so many inclusive programs, it's mind-blowing. With special attention paid to neuro-diverse audiences, children friendly viewings, dementia friendly viewings, and more, you can rest assured that you never have to worry about whether or not you can bring your loved one to the theater. Everyone is accommodated in some way and it is a lovely feeling to belong as a member to this amazing organization.
Come and support the Picturehouse. With a cozy ambiance, incredible staff, and a wide variety of snack options: you won't be disappointed!
It is a fairly quiet place, for those who want to drink a beer, chat, go see a movie. As the atmosphere is intimate, I suppose it is better for adults who want to meet some friends.
Very nice, cosy cinema in the middle of Cambridge. It shows a great variety of excellent films, but also offers all recent releases. Feels closer to what cinema going should be!
Great boutique cinema in historic centre with 3 screens. Lovely staff, particularly the on the ticket desk. Friendly chat with Lizzie and Abi(?) about the the film we were seeing and very helpful explaining the benefits of membership. Excellent, knowledgeable, service with a smile - you dont get enough of that in cinemas these days. Recommend!
A proper cinema, with the added advantage of a real bar. Beware the sometimes fierce aircon in Screen 1, and become a member if you visit more than a dozen times a year - which you should.
Comfy'ish fleece lined chairs and decent mid sized screens but this cinema is a little dated now and the leg room is a little cramped if you're over 6 foot tall.
However it has character in spades and has a very welcoming atmosphere that you won't find in the larger more corporate multiplexes.
Photos are from our attendance of the recent screening and Q&A with the director and writers of 'Rocks', the opening movie of Cambridge Film Festival 2019.
This cinema is the perfect venue for such screenings providing a good platform for the movie and comfortable, intimate surroundings for the discussion.
Lovely cinema. The staff are friendly, the screenings are well delivered, and the cafe/bar is a great place to meet and grab a drink before the film. Some great events too! Always a wonderful experience.
I am very sad, because this used to be my cinema to go in Cambridge. The character and choice of movies were the main reason I used to love this place. Prices were always high, but thats okay. However, recently, the quality dropped immensely. There is no comfort, the place is dirty and the toilets are disgusting. The worst part, though are the screens. I must not have noticed before, but the seats are super tiny and close to each other. There is no space at all. You cannot sit down, relax and enjoy the movie. Instead, you smell the whine-fuelled burps of your neighbour. Also, the picture quality is not. I understand that it is not state of the art technology, but it seems quite aged. And finally, it is super stuffy. The air con either doesnt work or is not suitable for a fully booked screen. I was grasping for fresh air. Shame, I even have a member card, not sure if I will come back.
As all cinemas are in Cambridge it is expensive! However the cinema is clean and staff are friendly. Get there very early on Wednesdays, the queues will be huge
Small cinema, that doesn't show main stream pictures, ideal for couples who likes something different and after has selection of restaurants very close by.
I'm a very big fan of arthouse house Film and this cinema provides a very intimate setting within which to experience the films they have on offer. I'm very appreciative of it's aesthetic, it's a small space, even down to the thatres but it's not likely to be be seen as a problem by patrons since there's almost no chance the theatre would find itself flooded with foot traffic on any particular occasion. The possibility of Hollywood blockbusters being screened here is exceptionally low and that's very much to the locations credit. I've only seen the like elsewhere in New York City.
Great cinema, atmosphere and selection of movies. Currently the only alternative to the mainstream blockbuster sugar paste the other cinemas around serve. Keep it up!
The staff are great but we've had several problems recently with double booked seats. This has happened on at least 3 occasions. When I go In to book tickets the website seems reluctant to accept membership numbers. Why are you showing so few foreign language films now? I thought it was supposed to be an arts cinema and why does the cinema become intolerably hot halfway through every film?
