Nice, but cafe bar needs soft furnishings - it's very loud and cattery even with just a few customers.

Overpriced, too; presumably so that you buy a membership - its discount brings things down to a manageable level.

So much more could be done with the space, to make it a destination in itself, but they seem to see it as a waiting room for old ladies going to a film, rather than treating it as the city centre metro cafe that can be (and used to be).

I love this place. Great film programming for both discerning grown ups and children. A real community in many respects. Comfortable seats. No screaming kids. No musak. Clean and well looked after. Nice cafe (though the black coffee is pretty horrible when I last went there - it's probably fine with milk though...) Snacks are really good quality. Overall, a proper cinema experience like it ought to be!

Charming little art cinema which hosts a number of worthwhile events. You can buy a beer and drink it inside. The prices are high, of course, but not compared to the other cambridge cinimas such as Vue who try to extort you whenever they can.

My first experience here was unpleasant. The chairs were uncomfortable for a longer movie, screen was smaller than I expected, there is little to no parking, and the employees were a bit rude. My second experience was even worse. My wife and I had an emergency the day of the movie and we're forced to cancel our movie. They refused to refund our tickets or even let us swap for a movie in the future. We can only get a refund or swap two days before the movie. If you plan on seeing a movie here be sure there are no emergencies or last minute issues or you will waste 25 pounds

Great

A cinema for all seasons!

A cinema for all seasons!
I've enjoyed the cinema's comfy chairs for everything ranging from the usual film to an old classic, from a foreign gem (in original language) to cults (loved The Big Lebowski screened with matching White Russian served at the bar!), from the Big Scream (bring your babies!) to full-day film courses and Q&A with directors.
What else to say, there's no better way to invest money in Cambridge if you are a film fan, or just curious.

Best cinema ever, great choice of films including those that you won't find in the big multiplexes, great cafe and bar with snacks and lunch if you have some time to kill before your showing! I will never forget watching the whole of Nymphomaniac in one sitting here, great times!

Pleasant cinema, from time to time showing fantastic sci-fi or cult 70mm films. None showing lately though, which is a disappointment. Previously Aliens, The Thing, Dune, etc. have been shown, all of which it would be a pleasure to see again.
Plus, what has happened to the food? I remember a few years ago going out for dinner there before a film and being able to choose from a decent selection of meal options. But the other day I discovered that the menu now contains a few "light bites" and then just hot dogs. Hot dogs?? Do they even qualify as food?? What a disappointment. :'(

Decent range of films including opera live from the Met in New York. Discounted tickets and everything in the cafe for members. All in all a nice experience in three intimate screens. And helpful staff - what more could you want?

Premier Barclays banking introduced us to free membership at the picture house - great I thought so I drove into Cambridge popped in to join and book my first film - only to be told by a young lady on the till who was training a much lovelier young man that he could not book my film using my two complimentary tickets because they ask customers to book on the day and the day before is not acceptable !!!!!! Seriously ? Ok I said how are bookings looking, is it full ? I said and the brash young lady said no it's half full but you should be ok tomorrow...... we managed to get tickets the next day, just and after the film went to the bar to see if we could get food but the guy behind the till said doubt it we are full the next the next showing so I said oh ok when's that he said not untill 8.30pm .... but it's 8.15pm now I said so can we have a drink and wait for a table? - low and behind one came free ! We ordered our food at the bar and when it came the guy said here is your food but you need to get your cutlery from the bar !!!!! So we got up and collected our cutlery while our food sat on the table getting cold ! Strange experience we had on our first visit but hey ho you can take your glass of wine into the film - so there some upsides.......

Always a pleasure. But it is a bit strange being comfortable with people drinking in the cinema but having no where to put your drinks. I'm not expecting the lazy boy recliners they have in The but somewhere to put your drink would be appreciated.

Cozy bar and coffee area with a friendly atmosphere and staff to hang out before you see a movie (or just to chill after work. Does good lite bites like chips too and for a good price. Seats in theatre are comfortable and reasonably spaced. Sound quality and maintenance of the screens are always good. Selection of movies usually more varied than the other cinemas in Cambridge but still shows some mainstream Hollywood movies. Has a great film festival in autumn but usually has mini collections on at all times.

I love the Arts Picturehouse. The screens are small which makes for a great viewing experience. Taking a lovely coffee in with you just finishes off the film watching beautifully. The food and drink in the restaurant are good quality and fairly priced. It can get busy for food and the bar before and after blockbuster screenings.
