A little confusing to find the place, easiest way I found was to go through James St and continue up the stairs. Would be extremely helpful if there were signs outside showing how to get to entrance. Another gripe I had was even though the building has 3 levels, the top level is pretty much for admin there s not much exhibits and the rooftop is inaccessible. Therefore pointless to mention it in the elevator.

That said, excellent display of Western Australian art and I happened to catch the Awavena exhibit during the Perth festival. Awesome example of combining knowledge and technology together through the VR experience. The staff here are fantastic.

My partner and I visited the Art Gallery to see the Corsini Collection. Well presented, informative and the entry fee included a rather nice, soft-cover book covering all the paintings and other artifacts on display.

Staff were their usual friendly and polite selves and the bookshop was well stocked.

However, the building itself is getting a little long in the tooth and I think it is high time that the WA government invests some funds in a renovation/refresh.

I have come here to see the Corsini Collection and the art is fantastic, however I must say that the staff with a few exceptions are in general extremely rude. All but a few pieces in the collection do not have rails guarding them, when discussing this with other visitors we came to the conclusion that this was so that we could examine the brush strokes and the intricacy of the work. However I have witnessed many visitors being told on multiple occasions to get back from the work and don t gesture at the printings. It would seem like common sense then to put up barricades. I am disappointed with the impatience of almost all the staff and how bluntly they tell you off as if you were a small child.

Gorgeous Australian, Indigenous and overseas artworks displayed impeccably in several Collections within the Art Gallery itself. The Cultural Precinct Carpark is underneath the Gallery making access so easy. My 90 year old father was enthralled. Thank you!

When we first walked in a guard asked me to leave my back at desk or where it on my front. He said it will stop us knocking something or hitting the pictures, but I was in a good mood and said take the bag please. I was quite surprised of the work, they had a number of Heidleberg painters and a brilliant Hans Hysen painting. While I was walking out of the history section these 2 youths were getting photos of each other in front of some large painting. I thought the guard was pulling my leg just being extra careful, but he was right on, from my distance it looked like one was awthfully close to the painting. Great selection.if you were surprised about collection, let's help this place and give what I wrote a Thumbs up. Thank you.

The art gallery is quite a beautiful place to visit to see art of all types. There are many exciting pieces worth seeing. This is definitely a place to visit to learn the history and culture of Australia. At the time I went, they had a cool Indigenous Aboriginal event going on, with traditional music and art. It was quite exciting. The whole place is modern and well built. There are many art pieces dating back to 1700s and 1800s, as well as some modern art pieces and abstract works. The artwork has a variety of art mediums. Though the museum is not very big, it is definitely worth a visit, especially if you love or are interested in learning art. It's not a great place to bring young children, or people who don't love art.

In the Perth Cultural Centre, a one-minute-walk from the nearest train station, the Art Gallery of Western Australia houses a collection of both international and Australian art from 1829 to the present day. Special emphasis lies on works from Australia and the Indian Ocean Rim. As well as an extensive collection of traditional and contemporary indigenous art, the gallery displays works by eminent artists such as Hans Heysen and Frederick McCubbin.

Six Seasons, the Indigenous art collection, is a highlight. Vernon Ah Kee's works are particularly moving. His large family portraits in 'born in this skin' are beautifully powerful. My photos of 2 of the panels don't do them justice.

We went to see the Corsini Collection and ended up looking at the other exhibitions. Perth is extremely lucky to have an Art Gallery that is freely available to all people. A great selection of art and visual histories.

A must see if you are in Perth, even more significantly if you live in the city. The temporary exhibits, organized at great cost, bring international art to a city that is touted to be the most isolated in the world. The permanent exhibits give visitors a glimpse of local art. The only minor disappointment is the building that is in need of an upgrade and a rethink, but that aspect can be easily ignored.

I really enjoyed our visit. Some very interesting contemporary art and I was very pleased to see some of the Colonial Australian works. And I had a great discussion with one of the staff members who pointed out some things I hadn't noticed in some of the paintings.

The entrance to the museum is free, only possible special exhibitions cost extra, but are in separate premises. The museum has a visit of 3 hours. Who wants to give a small donation afterwards in a box and that is worth the museum in any case.

Shadowed by various security guards after dressing down one of them of admonishing my daughter (12y.o.) for looking at the paintings. Apparently she was too close ( about a metre ). Their 'preventative strike' policy which is unaccompanied by floor markings or other signage, occurred prior two visits as well. Be aware, and prep your kids as it can be embarrassing for them to get treated like a Vandal in a gallery for art appreciation.

The exhibits you find around are great! I usually prefer the temporary displays that always have new interesting pieces to check out. Usually you won't spend too long at the Art Gallery so don't go a great distance unless you truly have an interest. I usually put it as a part of my day to check it out if I'm at the city but otherwise I don't go out my way. Still, good fun!
