The exhibits are generally amazing. Curated to a very high standard.
Lots of Western Australian art which provides a window into history.
Probably one of my favourite places in the city to spend a quiet midweek afternoon.
Nice art gallery. No restaurant no wine bar and lacking a venue vibe.
Very good exhibition with spacious but comfortable size
Located next to Perth Train Station, just over the footbridge as you head to Northbridge
Great permanent collection and nice temporary one when we were there.
Fairly small for a state gallery but it looks like they aim for some eclectic exhibitions. The courtroom area downstairs was interesting just from a legal history point of view.
Great collection that was well set out. Staff welcoming and very knowledgeable. Perfect way to spend a rainy day.
Great place to go for a day out, especially when there is a special exhibision on.
You visit it once and be like "ah sweet", and then you wait about a year and visit again and its like "ah nothings changed, except for a very few paintings". Id say go down to margaret river if you'd like to look at some art, cause my god i swear there are more art galleries then there are galleries. In fact most of the cafe are galleries!
Interesting if you have the time a lot not to my liking but some very unusual
A place to relax, find peace and enjoy artistic paintings. It is very clean and quiet. The place has a great collection of artworks ranging from paintings to sculptures. Place is also very clean and not too crowded with people.
Pornagrahic exibits to me and many others in society isn't and never will be classified as an art form.
Went to see Corsini collection. It was really great experience. Entrance to contemporary art and WA art was free good amount of paintings and sculpture, lots of souvenirs for sale.
Very good selection of artwork in a mixture of modern and vintage buildings. The old courthouse is worth looking at as much the art.
Art Gallery is always a memorable visit with the majority free & only special travelling exhibits attract a charge. This time round was privaleged to see the new art purchased for free permenant display - Spectacular Aboriginal Art Exibit Going currently featuring moving works on the native peoples, their experience in this country since white settlement & fascinatingly deep messages. 125th Anniversary approaches in 2020 & promises to be amazing.
PLEASE NOTE I HAVE CONTRIBUTED NO PHOTO AS I REFUSE TO PHOTOGRAPH WORKS OF ART HELD IN GALLERIES - CONSIDER IT DISRESPECTFUL TO TAKE PHOTOS WITHIN AGWA.
Great service as the guards and attendants help understand the art when you have children.
2 days to read everything.
Book 3D breath taking Awavena in advance on website or reception.
Great local, national and international art collection in a beautiful building right in tbe heart of Perth. Friendly staff, beautiful gift shop and cafe.
The curated exhibitions are always a pleasure with quiet spaces to sit and reflect. Great gift shop also!
Beautiful exhibits but a bit mix and match probably because of lack of space (?)
Art is a subjective form of expression, and in turn, so is its appreciation, and no two people can have exactly the same tastes, so keeping this in mind, I have given the gallery a four star rating. The amenities are good and they're free. The artwork is nice and interesting. Based on my personal taste, I find a lot of modern art very difficult to appreciate, however, I feel like I can appreciate them more based on their story rather than the art. I generally look at it and feel like it's quite simple, however the story is what makes it for me. I preferred looking at painting, and there are some very nice paintings here. There was also an Aboriginal art section which is definitively worth a look, should it it still be there.
I recommend having a look to anyone who is visiting Perth/Northbridge.
What can I say, it's a beautiful gallery! I'm glad to have finally seen part of it
Free entry. Permanent displays are limited compared to other capital cities, but worth seeing. I especially like the indigenous art and this section would be good for overseas visitors. Fees charged for special exhibitions. Child friendly, often activities available.
Great opening day lots of entertainment as well the Italian art
Been to corsini exebition nice Italian art must be back again
Fantastic collection of old master Australian modern contemporary and Aboriginal art. Also some fine porcelain and glass collections as well as International art. Banjo Patterson bush poet - one of my all time favourites "Down on his Luck" by Frederick McCubbin and of course Robert Juniper. South African William Kentridge monumental sculptures on display amongst others. Sadly time was limited will have to go back again..
The place was very clean and beautiful, the artwork it's really good.
Great place to check out art from many artists in even more different styles.
Spent the best part of a day with a break for lunch, really lovely interested & knowlegable staff who gave lots of advise, they had two exhibitions on display as well as their regular galleries, well recommended, will be back.
Great place to look at great works of art. Very helpful staff.
There are a lot of very cool art pieces and different designs. I found that I got threw the whole place in about an hour. However I didn't stop and read the information at every piece of art.
Loved the gallery of Australian art to about 1920, including Heidelberg School.
An interesting art gallery! We enjoyed the Aboriginal art, the portraits and photographs by Bill Henson. We ran out of time to look at any of the other galleries. One companion thoroughly enjoyed the Heath Ledger exhibition.
Come on. It s got a black only painting, how can you go pass that
It has many interesting area, indigenous area, sound area, classic and some other areas,
Well layer out
Plenty to see around it
Good place to spend 4/5 hr and then go outside for a beer
One of the best art galleries I've been in for a good few years. It was great to see a well considered and diverse collection set in a pleasant environment. Many thanks to the Art Gallery of WA.
Easy to get to from the train.Nice amd bright .Guides have a good knowledge of the paintings.Exibitions put together nicely
Sort of ok. It s very regional and doesn t really offer much in art. The old gaol and courthouse is nice but very few excellent pieces of art.
A number of galleries we're closed when I visited recently. I remember there were a lot more art works the previous time I was there a few years ago.
There is amole paid parking nearby so it is easy to go to. There are places to sit down so it is disabled and elderly friendly.
It's a nice modern building but wish there were more artworks.
Loved this place.Impressed with all the year 12 students work , hard to choose the best so went with the one they made me gasp!
Go Ms Wu.
Whilst I enjoyed the art in all the rooms, my favourite was the artists impressions with the native animals.Fantastic day out and all for free.
Great visit free and a nice way to spend a couple of hours.
massive place, it has lots of exhibitions from a range of different era. a very calming place
Always something interesting to see in a compact and nicely laid out building.
Visiting from UK lovely gallery over 3 floors, we were there 2 Hours. Interesting mix of modern art.
I recently visited the Wa art gallery, we were very excited to see the Corsini exabition and we're not disappointed. It was fabulous. I just love our Gallery, however the interior needs a bit of updateing.carpets old and dirty, holes in walls, tired old bathrooms.
There are many over seas tourist and we must have something we can be proud of.
Nice and free entrance. Good collection of aborigines art!
A thoughtful and brilliantly designed space to showcase the states art treasures.
Heath Ledger display is amazing. It needs to be advertised more. ?? If some of gallery was empty.
Really interesting. I went as a parent helper with my daughter's school and I loved it!
Conveniently located near the Perth train station. Aircon comfort and a few floors to explore. The Kimberley collection which I visited today was extremely interesting with both traditional and moden art techniques. Well laid out gallery where each turn takes you on a different journey. Whilst I never took advantage of them, guided tours were available. Plenty of access for persons with dissabilities etc. Looking forward to my next visit. A cafe/restaurant is adjacent to front door if you choose and sales of books and related art info is available art the gallery. Being older, seats for viewing could do with being a few inches higher as I watched many patrons struggle to their feet also.
Excellent gallery with some really thought provoking pieces on display.
Great set up in the central art, museum district of Perth. Attended a workshop with the kids and they loved the interactive nature of the session. Well worth looking into if you need to keep the kids entertained.
An absolutely gorgeous place. The building itself is light and airy. The exhibits I managed to get to see were wonderful. Loved the place and will definitely be back. I had lunch in their restaurant. The food was delicious. The prices more than reasonable and the service was excellent. Totally recommend it as a great place to meet with friends.
A wonderful place full of art works for all tastes.
First class
It is was a pleasant way to spend about an hour and a half or so. It's quite a large gallery, spread on 3 levels. There is plenty of space between and around the artworks, it's not all crammed in like some galleries.
The gallery caters to all tastes, there's something for everyone. I like landscapes and paintings of historic scenes, so there was a good selection. Then there was also modern and abstract which were not my cup of tea, but there you go.
It's also free, and while you need to check your backpacks, you are free to take your camera and take photos.
A very relaxing experience. Good to see open. Cheers all. Greg
I adore this art gallery as it is one I have visited many times. There are always a massive range of exhibitions and the school group tour guides are both personable and knowledgable with most (of not all) being volunteers. The location is perfect being right next to the train station and a short walk away from Northbridge which is home to many hidden delights.
I went to WA Art Gallery yesterday. I attended the special exhibition "Botanical..." It had colourful exhibit. They had audio information via earphones & texts on each exhibition items. I like reading the info & spending time admiring the beautiful exhibits. If you have not been give it a try & enjoy the atmosphere.
