Our server was really bad. He dropped water in the food while pouring and didn't care, then he dropped red wine and didn't care. The food came out cold and pine nuts in the soup was very old.

Went in on a Saturday for an early dinner with a last minute reservation. Prices are moderately expensive. Service was excellent, we really liked out server. Drinks were good, I had a sangria that was pretty strong. Appetizers were escargot and pate. Escargot very good, pate above average, pickled bits were delicious. Entrees were what disappointed me. The bouilliabase broth was very salty and felt grainy and thick. One of my mussels hadn't opened either. Short ribs were much better with the seasoning on first bite and fried shallots but after a few more bites I wished there were a bit more complexity in the flavor.

I'd say this was a good or decent meal, but cost a lot for it. Again, top stars for service, just the food was a letdown.

Fantastic food quality and by French restaurant standard, it was quite reasonable. Relatively small restaurant with a separate bar. Good wine. Appetizers are excellent. Main course had lots of choices.

Great stiff mimosa, amazing chilaquiles and good coffee, but i felt the omelette basquaise was bland and dry. Service was ok. Had to wait a long time for our server due to some confusion. I enjoyed the decor.

My best friends and I decided to come here and we had a terrible experience. We were seated and waited close to 20 mins before a server came to our table - we also watched other people being served that came after us. The staff seem to be more accommodating to frequent customers and residents of the area. It was not a busy night so we questioned the quality of our service - we had to ask our server for things multiple times which made us feel like we weren t welcome and affected our experience there. Given that we were the only minority in the room who had to deal with poor service, we wonder if that s the atmosphere at Aquitaine!

Doesn t get 5 stars because recently having issues with kitchen. Chefs are venturing into cuisines other than straight forward French. They need to stick to what they re known for: traditional bistrot French food. Very nice atmosphere but if you are looking for intimacy the place is cramped and your table s conversation will be overheard. Their staff are wonderful and accommodating. Brunch on weekends is good and packed, although not necessarily French. This is always a good place to go for drinks at the bar (if you can nab a seat).

Great brunch

Great brunch
Duck Hache is awesome
Benedicts as well.
Service is the best

My wife and I hadn't had a dinner out since our honeymoon, and one of our friends recommended Aquitaine. Fantastic! We had a marvelous dinner (I'd recommend the lobster bisque and the Berkshire pork) in a perfect atmosphere. Classy music, a beautiful interior, attentive but not invasive servers. Cozette was perfect, and Barry made us a custom drink (the 'Boulevardiere') at the bar afterwards. We had a great time and are eager to go back!

Servers were friendly and attentive. It was a quaint spot to eat and great atmosphere; great spot for a date. The tables are small and close together however, so if it gets busy I'm sure things will get tight, so plan accordingly!

The food was great; the portions on the appetizers are on the small side which is standard at more upscale restaurants. The entrees are pretty decent size and both things together will probably be enough to fill you up.

Also parking is terrible but it's Boston, so parking anywhere and everywhere is terrible. Good luck this will probably be the hardest part!

We came for Dine Out Boston for lunch. It was very reasonably priced for Dine Out Boston. The truffle egg was delicious and the asparagus was nicely prepared. The short rib was so tender you didn't need a knife to cut it apart. The paired vegetables were kinda mushy, but tasted fine. Overall a positive food experience with great service.

I have only been for brunch on the weekends but the food is good. They have a great weekend brunch deal pre-fix meal bottomless coffee, fresh OJ, entree, and a cinnamon roll for approx. 11 dollars. Great deal, especially in the south end! Had a delicious bloody mary as well. Friendly staff!

My first time here was on a Thursday night in October and it was great. My friend and I sat at the small bar to have some drinks. We received some great tips from the girl behind the bar who was very friendly and polite.

My second attempt at coming here was nowhere near as pleasant, perhaps because it was on a Saturday night when the host showed no regard for whether he retains any customers or not. Again, a friend and I came in and asked to have some drinks. The host told us a couple of seats were about to be freed up so we waited right in front of him. The seats freed up and since he did not clarify whether we would have to wait for him to seat us we kept waiting. At this point two gentlemen came in, and after a brief encounter he told them it was ok to take those two seats we were waiting for. When I asked him about it, he said it was open seating, first-come first-serve, and we could have two seats in the corner, where we (being petite girls) could have barely fit in comfortably.

The host in no way made it clear that seats were first-come first-serve when we first walked in, did not seem to feel bad in any way for giving away seats he implied we could take and just had a rude unprofessional attitude I would not want to deal with again. This place just came off my list of places to go out to in the neighbourhood. If you want a stress-free night I would suggest going somewhere more relaxed.

The staff was horrible! The food I got was completely raw and they didn't come over for over 15 minutes to deal with it. I wouldn't come here - there are so many better places in the south end

Lovely food, polite/prompt waitress, and quaint atmosphere. This location is situated on a sleepy street near the South End. Although the restaurant and tables seemed slightly small, the food tasted enormous, as expected of fine French cuisine. And there's an extensive wine list by the glass or bottle.

Mediocre food. The tomato and burrata needed salt.. The duck was dry and tasteless, lacking seasoning. Steak and fries was just ok, not better than what you can fire up in your own grill. Skip it for something with more character.

I know covid is difficult and I should not expect things to be perfect, but two waiters for 18 table and no bus boys is insane. How can they be expected to give good service?? Please help your employees and staff up.

Went by myself to get a glass of wine last night and was told by the hostess that I had to order food if I wanted a glass of wine (she told me it was state law that I had to have food with my drink). I personally believe I was refused service because I was a single person and they knew they d make more money off of bigger groups, but that s neither here nor there. Regardless, it s sad that they made something up. Went to another wine place down the way and had a great time.

UPDATE: I asked to be seated outside and was told about the state law. I then asked to be seated inside and the hostess said no, we can t do that either. Sorry, hun.

This place is super cute, the food is amazing, the waiters are great. My only bad review is for the Hostess who from the moment we walked in and asked for a table, she treated us like we shouldn t be allowed in the place. She looked at us from head to toe as if to say we didn t look like we belonged there, even though we were dressed properly.
I stopped by a second time the next day to pick up something and she did not even speak to me and treated me even worse than the first time.

To you, Mrs. Hostess, you shouldn t treat anyone as if they are less than . Be kind.

From the moment you come to that place they give you a pleasant feeling. Very friendly waiters, it is a lovely place to pass time with friends and colleagues or with your date. enjoyable cooking, experienced chef, honest pay and generous service. Warmly recommended.

Good food, nice service, pretty good atmosphere. We sat right across the kitchen which wasn't the best, and while we were inside, most other restaurants around had a terrace, so it would be nice if Aquitaine would have one as well :)

Aquitaine is a fabulous restaurant portions are perfect, prices are right atmosphere is great. The food is fantastic. I visited many times in the South End, Chestnut Hill and in Dedham Very consistent, happy staff. it's one of my go-to places!

Aquitaine is of uneven quality. Six of us met there yesterday. Four ordered the paillard chicken. This is supposed to be a pounded chicken breast, seasoned and pan-fried. All four were terrible. They neither looked nor tasted like chicken. The texture was that of a ground patty. The meat (?) looked dark. It tasted like compressed spicy bread crumbs.

Also, our server had an attitude. I didn't want to order a drink before the meal, so she took my wineglass and never asked again. When my wife tried to explain some confusion, the waitress became defensive and tried to explain how she (the waitress) had understood her rather than merely addressing the problem.

I doubt if I will be returning.

Make sure you get a reservation because the restaurant is very crowed when we went there for Friday night. The tables are small but the staff is very friendly. We ordered the two specials on the menu, the duck dish and the seabass dish, both were delicious. I would definitely come back again.

Usually reliable but quality and service seem to have declined since December 2017. Steak frites was ordinary with disappointing French fries served warm not hot. Sole meuniere heavily garnished with greens, overly fried, and served with a bland potato puree. Creme brulee tangerine garnish detracted from this classic French staple. Service was rushed with server interrupting conversation to offer dessert. Will return as this might have been an off night or perhaps a change in chefs. Historically this restaurant has been consistently excellent.

Walked past on a sunny Saturday morning and stopped in brunch. Sat in a warm side room that had a view of the street as people walking by. I ordered the skillet which had eggs, liguisa sausage, whole wheat toast and potatoes. Everything was delicious including the coffee. Service was quick and friendly. Would definitely stop by again

Very nice French ambiance. Very welcoming new new manager, Alexis, who was very available. Waiter was charming.
The escargots were nuclear , Parmesan fused to pan, so hot they list all flavor. The waiting time may be a tip-off. The fish was nicely presented but overcooked-not sure why fish was encrusted when the nature method is just fine. The mousse au chocolat was very nice.

This restaurant was designed in the Bistro Moderne movement. The 1990s saw traditional bistros reinvented by chefs who had been formally trained in France s more formal kitchens.

Excellent local restaurant with dining rooms in South End and Chestnut Hill. I've been to both, one for brunch and one for dinner. Completely satisfied. Food was amazing. Classic French options. Daily specials. Filet was perfect. Dutch Baby for brunch was decadent. Service is outstanding. Great decor. Good location. Arrive early without a reservation. Highly recommend!

Classic french bistro with good food and wine , its decor and service is wonderful but the price is more than you would pay in a more casual bistro. If you want to try some traditional French offering this is a good start.
