This is a dangerous, high employee turnover facility, that does not adequately train its employees (residents and fellows moonlighting or nppa). Not equipped to handle the volume it serves. Day time staff with stake in facility support routine prescription of medications that often mandate repeat evaluation at the time of expiration or refill (opioids and benzodiazepines). Conversely, this facility serves some of the most self righteous, self abusive, uneducated persons that display zero patience. Avoid the conondrum that is AVMC.

I have been going to this clinic sense 2005 and have been seeing the same doctor sense then as well I love all of the staff members and nurses and doctors everyone is so friendly and nice and have a smiling face
I have been a patient at Apple Valley Medical since 1981. I have always received prompt and professional care. My husband and my children (after they didn't need a pediatrician) have also been patients. We have seen almost every doctor on the staff and visited urgent care, as well. The office is convenient, it's easy to get an appointment on short notice, lab tests are done on site, and there is also a pharmacy. They do not have a true emergency room for serious conditions, but the urgent care works well for most issues. There are also specialists in the same building. I highly recommend Apple Valley Medical Center.
I have been going here for around 15 years now and sometime in the last few years everything about the place completely changed for the worst. Patient care no longer seems to be important, doctors now only take a few minutes with each patient, not even checking the basics each time (ear nose throat, lungs). You wait an hour to be seen, only to be seen a few minutes. The list goes on and on. In my opinion, the place is run to get as much money possible, not thinking about the patients, or outcomes.
I've been here twice this week for the same problem with two completely different diagnoses, now what am I supposed to think? Which doctor do I believe?
At this point I am going to be looking for a new medical clinic to start taking my families medical needs to.
Wait times for appointments are routinely in excess of 45 minutes. The bathrooms are not clean. I have found staff on the nurse line to be rude and condescending. The online patient portal has been broken for over a month and staff can t provide an update on when it is expected to be working.
On a positive note, the physicians I have seen are very caring and take the time needed to discuss concerns and answer questions. Ultimately that is what matters, but the other issues detract from the patient experience. They just need to tighten up their front end management.
The greeters at this clinic are generally very cranky and it seems like it is an inconvenience to check you in. HOWEVER, the doctors at this clinic are outstanding. I have never had a bad run-in with a provider here.
My nurse was great. My doctor looked like she was 16 and was not professional. She didnt ask me questions about my symptoms or even allergies to meds!! This is the only place that accepts my insurance away from home; so I will happily drive 2 hours home for any appointments. I waited 45 minutes after my schedules appointment time to get into the room. Now I am two hours in and my simple appointment is not even complete. Tell me why a doctor's appointment needs to take up over 2 hours of your day?
These walls are paper thin and I can hear everyone else's health issues. Babies screaming. Employees talkin and laughing.
I hate giving bad reviews but I am sorry, this place is terrible.
Have been a long-term patient here for some time, but the practice and ER has gone significantly down hill. Today I was told 40 min wait at check in, but what they should've said is 40 min wait to get back into a room, then another 50 min wait to be seen. I have an extremely quick need, yet nobody is prioritizing and moving things along. This organization needs an overhaul in effective and respectable operations... Honestly.... do not come here unless you have absolutely no other options. Seriously. You'll leave frustrated and annoyed with subpar care at best.
Went in to urgent thinking my tattoo might have been infected. Paid my copay at the front desk, got called, got my arm checked out, wasn't infected. They then bill me another $15 for my copay, which I'm certain I already paid.. So as paid it anyway.. As of today, they send someone to come collect $295 for God knows what?? I've paid every single one of my bills at this specific clinic and now they're telling me I owe them nearly $300?? Before going in to see if I had an infection, and hadn't been there in nearly 3 years. You'd think they wouldn't treat me if I owed them from a previous visit. I don't know, this bill came out of left field and it's complete bullshit. Never going there again.
The care that you get seems to be hit or miss. Dr. Scott Benson is an incredible doctor and I always ask for him. The other doctors are pretty good, but Dr. Benson just has a great sense of humor that If you want an appointment, be prepared to wait on the phone for 15 minutes, though.
Our family has been patients at this clinic since 2000. We have never had any type of bad experience and have always been treated like valued customers. Urgent care has been great on the few occasions we needed them - we were treated with appropriate priority as compared to others in the waiting room. My experience at Clinical Skin was, and continues to be, top notch! Highly recommend!
We feel very fortunate to have such great doctors available to us at Apple Valley Med Center. Dr Steichen has always been such an incredible doctor for our family. I m so thankful that he takes the time to address all of our concerns and needs! Thank you AVMC!
Went in for urgent care with a teen. Situation presented as possibly critical so they rushed us into triage. Based on initial assessment with PA they were not certain if we would be sent to ER or not. So, they made sure we knew we had a choice and could avoid any charges from the clinic by going to the ER. We stayed. They did a great job of diagnostics and had an excellent bedside manner. They were happy to answer our questions, but I would have liked more detailed communication when were done regarding implementation of the diagnosis and appropriate follow up.
I ve always had positive experiences at AVMC-have been a patient for 20 years. But my most recent visit with Tammy Johnston, nurse practitioner, was the best yet. She was thorough and professional and friendly. I would highly recommend her to anyone, anytime.
I had xray and visit with Matt for post-op check, I was in and out and treated with great respect from entering to exiting. Thank you! All clinics should be like this!
terrible hospital, long wait time even if the waiting room seems empty . my so had bit through his lip due to a fall it clearly needed stitches but the lady at the front desk diagnosis him said he would be fine and sent us on our way. what a joke.
Everyone was very nice, friendly and helpful. The Dr. listened to me, gave me a suggestion for what to do and sent me home with a prescription. I would go back again!
I understand it's hard when you are in pain or don't feel well but please run from this place unless you know a really good doctor there. I tried a few doctors there and I ended up in the real ER after all blablabla ... "it's just a virus u will be fine"
Dr. Sreichen and his staff are thoroughly professional, kind and caring. He has been my doctor for almost twenty years and I wouldn't consider going anywhere else for medical Care.
Came in on a Sunday aftertoon after I crashed my bike into a tree and their was only one more waiting. I had breathing issues so I was looked at immediately. The doctor who came was very helpful and seemed like he genuinely cared, told me they will come by with a shot for pain soon. Waited nearly an hour until the doctor came back to find out no one came by to help me while I was rolling around in agony. The whole time I could hear the nurses joking with each other and small talking. Same as others saying, the doctors are great but the staff seem to be out to lunch.
I recently had an appointment with Dr. Steichen. Both Dr. Steichen and his nurse have always listen to my health concerns and recommend appropiate treatments.
This is a great UC (Urgent Care) medical center. The check staff are extremely polite and patient. They offer free coffee and have a nice cafe. The waiting room is very comfortable. Our wait times vary but for the most part we have not waited too long. The medical staff is great!!
Nurse was very rude to my husband and I tried to tell my husband what was wrong with him.. Before he seen the doctor we didn't even wait to be seen.. Horrible will never go back
First visit to urgent care had a great Dr and nurse who were very helpful and I was seen right away. Second time I had to wait an hour to be told by the nurse and the attending physician that both of them didn't know what to do and were not on the same page as the original Dr for follow ups. Not very pleased
Came here for work injury. Urgent care went just fine. Had to make a follow up appointment with the clinic side. Was given a doctor. It was one of the most horrible appointments I've ever had! The Doctor was rude, arrogant, talked down to me, and spent a total of 3 min max actually addressing my problem! Receptionist was also rude, and was annoyed I was taking time alway from her face book time! However I had to go back this week (due to work comp) I tried a new doctor(Dr. Pallas). Amazing Dr. Turned everything around for me as far as the clinic! Very professional, great bed side manner, examined and asked pertinent questions. Minus this Dr. And the nurses I had last visit. I would have rather gone to a vet then back to this clinic!
I have visited this clinic on three occasions and none of them have gone well.
Visit 1: I had tonsillitis and I knew it because I get this illness twice a year every year. The symptoms are pretty distinctive IMO. After waiting 45 minutes to see the doctor she took my vitals and told me I had Mono. I said "no way, that is impossible this is tonsillitis it is exactly as I have had it before." She said that she was certain it was Mono and wouldn't give me antibiotics for the tonsillitis until I had a test for Mono. After waiting another 45 minutes + for my tests OH GEE GUESS IT WAS TONSILLITIS. Too bad it cost me $200 for her to tell me that. She also prescribed it to me for 15 days.. every other time it has been for 7 days or less. I kept taking it over a week after the symptoms were gone. This lead to the worst burning itching yeast infection the world has ever seen.. the cause? Antibiotics taken for long periods of time. First time I have gotten it from antibiotics yet I use them twice a year for the past 5 years. Don't get me started on why they won't take my tonsils out. Its a long story.
Visit 2: I got into a car accident. Waited for an hour (literally this is not an exaggeration) to see the doctor. After a very short exam they prescribe me flexiril (which I can't complain about because it works). My main complaint here is the hour wait.
Visit 3: Follow up to the accident. I am still in pain when not on the medicine and some pain has gotten worse. This time I waited 1 hour and 14 minutes to see a doctor. I actually checked my phone for the exact time, completely unacceptable on a Monday evening. I tell them I still hurt in the same places and the doctor basically says "yea thats going to happen after a car accident, it should heal up on it's own."
On a side note while waiting for care I overheard a conversation between a man and a woman who worked there. The woman asked "So what do you think about <insert person's name>'s new boat?" the man answers "<Peron's name> can suck my d*ck". OH WELL HOW NICE OF YOU TO SAY OUTSIDE MY DOOR WHERE I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR 1 HOUR.
I don't want to say horrible things about them, just rather give you my experience in detail. My fiance has had a similar experience and I am working on getting him to share it.
Always an easy visit with my long-time primary care physician Dr. Frederixon. Courteous reception staff and always efficient service with minimum wait times in reception plus after initial vitals screening by doctor s assistant and waiting for doctor to enter the exam room. I do a routine visit and labs every six months and almost always in and out in under one hour. Dr. Frederixon never seems rushed and always polite and respectful during our time together. After over 20 years as patients my wife and are are always ready to recommend AVMC to new neighbors and friends looking for great medical care. Small gestures make big impressions. Example: After my exam and time with Dr. Frederixon, he will take the time to walk with me to the Lab. Reception area and makes sure I am checked in there. Nice touch for a busy doctor.
I've been going to AVMC for about five years and I am generally quite pleased with the service I receive there. I'm especially impressed with Dr. Todd Stolpman and Dr. Trygstad. They are both very good listeners and have given me very good treatment. Dr. Stolpman seems especially caring and is willing to work late to help his patients, if I'm an example. I've gotten calls from him as late as 9:30 p.m. explaining the results of various tests to put my mind at ease. I'd definitely recommend these two doctors, and I can't say I've had a bad experience with the others whom I've seen at Urgent Care. Maybe I've been lucky, but I suspect it's more than that.
Took our 3 year old son in with what we suspected to be an ear infection. Upon arrival they did a temp check he was at 103.. they came back in with Tylenol in a cup (which was the first red flag to me), I don't know how many three year old's will just drink Tylenol from a cup? Anyways he threw that up.. Then they came in to do a throat culture, which was extremely upsetting for my son, and used no methods to make it more of a pleasant experience for him. At this point my son was extremely upset. Here is the real kicker, they now wanted to do a blood draw? Never has my son needed a blood draw when bringing him in for temp.. they said they were concerned about such a high fever that they wanted to see where his WBC was at. I know from my education 103 isn't a crazy high temp for a three year old, plus you definitely need special peds training to take blood from such a small vein. I knew this would be a disaster so I refused. Finally, we asked them just to please look at his ears.. the doctor had me hold my child down, and she said there was too much wax to even see in. My son was sooo beyond upset at this point. So I made the choice to leave and go to children's ER. Needless to say Children's knew how to handle a child gave him ibuprofen through a syringe, confirmed with me that 103 isn't a life threatening temp for a child, looked at his ears without problem (stated there wasn't even that much wax), did a strep culture all while my son didn't shed a single tear because they knew how to work with children. Continued on to say there was no reason to do a blood draw, and sent us on our way. Moral of the story Apple Valley Medical Center is not the place to bring a young child.. I cannot speak for Adult patient care, but I do know I will be exploring new options for my child as far as urgent cares go.
The INR clinic is on our list of regular visits, unfortunately; fortunately, the nurses who work there and monitor issues are wonderful people who are thorough in follow-up and with advice. Staff at the front desks are able to call us by name as soon as we enter, check-in is easy, quick, efficient, always pleasant.
Tammy Johnston is the best doctor i have ever seen at this location in a long time and i have been coming here since i was a little kid. She truly goes above and beyond for her patients and thats rare now a days.
We've always been pleased with our regular doctors as well as the Urgent Care staff. The nurses and folks at the check-in are just as professional and friendly. Thanks for taking care of our family!
Took my son in for a late Sunday night strep test to Urgent care. Of course there's always a wait, but the front desk staff could not have been more professional ans caring. Trish brought my son a cold rag for his neck and a folded blanket for under his head, just to help keep him comfortable. I just got off the phone with billing, and they were a pleasure as well. I will definitely use them in the future! (Hopefully not often, or soon)
The doctors here are ridiculous. The only outcome for which they strive is to diagnose patients with something every visit. I've been inaccurately diagnosed 3 out of 4 times by 2 different doctors at Apple Valley Medical Center.
Worst customer service in the world! We were told 30 min wait to check our baby who had a broken nose and trauma to her face but she wasnt a priority. 1.5 hrs later we still werent seen even by triage smdh its ridiculous. As I asked what the hold up was my wife and I were told repeatedly they had 3 people come in with chest pains.....thats bullshit i didnt see anyone come in and that sounds like a ER problem not an urgent care facility problem. Did I mention it has the worst worst worst service EVER! Minnesota is known for great health care, this place makes me embarrassed to know it reflects our healthcare system of our great state.
Over several late night visits to AVMC UrgentCare, thanks for their very extended hours from 7am to 11pm, I have always received great, fast and concerned care from AVMC UrgentCare. It's my go to UrgentCare in the Twin Cities due to their very late hours. Dr. Smith has given me great care at least a couple times, and they take your concerns seriously, and have performed any test, bloodwork, or xrays I have requested.
Dr. Rachel is the first doctor I have ever had that seemed to honestly care about how I was feeling. She was sweet and personally called to check on me after a few days. I will continue to go here becuase of her.
This place doesnt listen to or care about their patients, i went into their urgent care with stomach pains and the whole time i was describing my symptoms the lady was glarring at me with a "why are you wasting my time with this" look and sent me home saying it was "just cramps". The following morning i had to have my dad rush me to the ER with so severe abdomen pain that I couldnt walk and was puking until nothing but foamy stomach acid was left, my appendix was swollen to 3x its usual size and had to be removed. (It was later found that i had a tumor in my appendix) Honestly in all the times ive gone here i have never once gotten any legitimate care from their "urgent care" center and would rather suggest going to the oldest lady on your block for better treatment advice.
Always able to get appointments on short notice, check in is easy, and they are open longer hours so I don't have to take time off of work to see a doctor. Super convenient.
Avoid urgent care at all costs. I've been here once and my fiance another time and both times the wait was over an hour and we were one of 2 or 3 people waiting. Another time I went for a broken arm for urgent care, they wrapped it and said to come back Monday for the regular doctors/x-ray techs to examine. They came back with the same results as urgent care, and said to see a specialist. Came back a week later specialist sends me to get x-rays, come back and someone else is in my exam room..specialist reads the x-rays as the same result as before but he interprets them differently. Wants me to come back in a week to check progress (instead of giving me some actual data as to what progress is, versus what is it). I got better information for recovery from google. Will not ever go back unless I'm unconscious and have no say in the matter.
I've been coming here for about 5 months...several times. The front desk staff is always friendly, helpful and very patient. They in fact recommended my doctor the first time I called. She's fabulous and a perfect fit for me...I trust her completely and she always makes me feel like my good health is important to her. It's a wonderful clinic and I'm surprised to see any negative comments. But as in everything, if you go in there with an attitude you'll leave with an attitude. I highly recommend this clinic!
They are experiencing growing pains the last few years. Actually, before that they had new management and it went from a quaint medical facility that felt like the best of both worlds (small town service, big town facility) to all about the money. The last year they seem to have come back to earth and realized they cannot treat long term customers like another number. Dr. Steichen is awesome, I am glad I found him. He cares about his patients and has a great bedside manner. I would have given 5 stars except they no longer have 24 hour urgent care. Apple Valley Medical Center is an essential member of Apple Valley and hopefully they can return to their former glory. Right now, it's a good place if you can find the right doctor.
I had a very good experience last week when I went to the Apple Valley Medical Center. My doctor was on time and I got in right away at the lab and the radiology department. Dr. Diede was very thorough.
The nurses and physicians are fantastic, but the receptionists are straight up the worst. I've been trying to make an appointment for a week and all I've gotten is voicemail. If you call in, expect to be on hold for about 10 minutes.
I am so pleased with my experience at Apple Valley Medical Center. The nurses that have helped me are top notch, and Dr. Steichen is a great doctor. Practical, listens to my concerns, and it fantastic to work with. Thanks, Dr. Steichen and staff, great job!
I have been going to AVMC for few years and have great Doctors. I have lots of health issues but Dr. Troedson has been great every time I go there with major problems. I respect and trust all of the people who work with Dr. Troedson.
I had to take my son for multiple urgent care visits and always happy with the result. The staff was very friendly and the doctors were good with patience.
I have been going there for years. Convenience is important with everything under one roof. From the time I walk through the main door, to the reception desk, sit down open a magazine I am usually called. My Dr. Orandi is easy to talk to and caring I never feel rushed and I am in good hands. Staff are all friendly and the newly decorated waiting area is bright and cheerful.
If I were you, I would go out of my way to avoid this place. They are for-profit so they can turn you away. My brother-in-law brought his son in to be seen in their urgent care and they had a $50 bill they couldn't pay at the time of service, so they turned him away and told him unless he paid his bill, they couldn't see him. How awful is that?! Greedy, money hungry place. Wait times are often atrocious, and the urgent care has no scanning equipment which is crazy to me. Stay away from this place.
AVMC IS A MACHINE THAT PROCESSES WIDGETS. THE DESIGN RUNS POORLY WITHOUT FEELING, CARING, OR INTEREST IN HUMANS. WIDGET REPAIR ONLY.
I have been a patient since 1990, and have become less content. In a recent experience, I was referred for a procedure. 10 years before, I had been to that provider, and had a terrible experience. This time, the provider called me weekly to schedule, and my reservations grew, so I asked to speak to someone to find out if changes could be made so I might not repeat the nightmare experience. They said "it probably wouldn't happen again - they never heard of such a thing." So, I found another provider through a nurse at my insurance company, and got the referral, and they said the complications I had previously were not uncommon, and could easily be avoided. So, they changed some orders and requested I get a prescription for Zofran from my doctor at AVMC. That took some time, since the nurse thought it was OTC, but, I read the information from the Internet, and convinced her that was not the case. Finally, all necessary medications were sent to my pharmacy...and, for some unknown reason, the provider originally recommended called in prescriptions to a pharmacy I didn't use.
AVMC turned a deaf ear to my concerns about the first provider, and the first provider insisted they had never heard of the complications that the nurse at my insurance company, and the second provider indicate are common.
AVMC seems confused as to what medications require prescriptions.
AVMC is referring people to a provider who is calling in prescriptions for no apparent reason - I had no appointment.
I'm only writing this because its not the first problem...its after a series of many problems. AVMC has lost sight of individuals and put in place a system with cogs that processes widgets. That would be great, except people are not things. The health of people shouldn't be put in a system and through cogs, but the good news is that we can opt out of this dehumanized system!
Two years ago, when I had pneumonia, I was left in an exam room for three hours. I finally went to the front desk and found out the doctor had left. I was then put back in an exam room for another hour to wait for an assistant who handed me a prescription that had been written by the doctor prior to her departure; at what point should you give up? Resolved that wouldn't happen again, on another visit, I left after a one hour wait to get orders to get a lab test. After yet another hour, I got my grocery shopping done, and then a call asking why I left, and I explained I thought I had been forgotten as before, and I returned for lab work. I no longer believe someone is coming back.
The last time I was at AVMC THIS WEEK, there was not a single person in line. I accidentally entered the queue at the wrong end putting me in the same place I would have been in in any case. I was scolded. Why? Oh, that is right, I'm not a human, I'm part of the system, and didn't go through the cogs correctly.
Machines operate without feelings, people can be insulted. But, this is petty.
Medical mistakes, and a lack of care don't matter to widgets.
The theory is proven. I am not a widget that the AVMC machine is designed to handle. It is time to leave.
AVMC is a machine. It is not designed for patients. Keep the cogs turning, put some stuff in nice orderly queues. Great process! You didn't put patients in the design, and when they mistakenly wander in, they interrupt your system. So...lock the doors and run your machine without humans. Otherwise, people needing help will get hurt.
I have been going to the AVMC since 1976. Obviously I am very satisfied with the doctors and their friendly and professional staff. They are the best! I always feel comfortable and never rushed. Thank you.
Keep Driving, we have had multiple bad experiences with this facility. Staff is rude and uncaring, ran up expenses and still had to go to the ER to who told us that we had a pinched nerve and gave us a muscle relaxer and sent us home. Oh did I mention they called 911 to have us transported to the ER instead of a medical transport.
They also nearly killed my wife with the wrong prescription on a prior visit. These people have no clue other than how to run up you bill and get you nowhere.
Adding to this post, shame on me for going back but we just needed a quick scan with radiology so I took another chance. 1st they lost the doctors orders, never returned my phone call, could not tell me what the charge for a scan was and they were clueless when we arrived for our appointment, we then sat for over 30 then left without even getting the service we came for. There were 7 people total in the waiting room. I reiterate my initial statement...Keep driving if you need a good clinic.
