Wow, first time on a kayak tour and loved it. My wife and daughter and I went on a 5 hour tour that departed from Anacortes and we traveled around two islands stopping at an old lighthouse that was being restored.. Our guide, Jake, was very knowledgeable about the marine life and was constantly giving us tidbits of information about the surrounding area but at the same time, making the trip seem effortless. He even went so far as to tell us a little about Anacortes and places of interest as we were coming back into the harbor at the end of our tour. For 3 people from Texas who had never been on a kayak tour before, Jake made this an exceptional maiden voyange and a high bar for future guides we may encounter. AKT and Jake made this a memorable event for our trip to "The Pacific Northwest". I would highly recommend Jake as a guide on any future kayak tours in and around the San Juan Islands / Anacortes.

My wife and I recently did a 3hr tour with AKT. It was an amazing time! We basically just showed up about 2hrs prior to a tour as we wanted to know how many other were on the tour before booking, because, you know, COVID. We were pleasantly surprised that only one other couple was signed up, so we signed up too. Purchasing the tickets and checking in was super easy and the guy helping us was super friendly, excited, and professional. He even offered some places to check out in town while we waited for the tour.

The gear they had us use all seemed very clean and in good working order, so no complaints. Our guide Ryan helped us ensure our gear was on correctly and then showed us the map of where we would go, then we headed to the boats. The boats were very nice and once we boarded Ryan helped to make sure we knew what we were doing and were comfortable. Then we set off!

On the paddle Ryan helped teach us about how to paddle through the currents and about some of the local ecology and wildlife. We saw a few eagles, a bunch of seals, and some porpoises! Ryan did a good job keeping us all together and being a small fast group we were able to explore a little farther than maybe a larger slower group would have.

Overall, the entire experience was excellent and we are so happy we decided to go on the tour. Hopefully we can go back sometime and do a full day or even multi-day tour! Highly recommend! The San Juans are super beautiful to paddle in!

We had a blast. Went out with Matt. The trip was supposed to be 1.5hrs but one of our group mates had injured herself prior to the event and was slowing us down. Greatest slow down ever! Just sitting out on the waves, enjoying the sun and breeze... Truly what vacationing should be about.
Our guide was very patient and informed, kept the group together and helped us every step of the way. Very excited to go again!

We were able to create our own experience with our amazing guide(Ryan!). The paddling was so much fun for our group, and the food was amazing. We camped at some beautiful spots on the islands, and had some time to relax and do some hiking. We saw lots of wildlife, and beautiful sunsets. The weather was perfect and we were very well taken care of. I think we will be making this an annual event. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would!

Welcoming, friendly greetings from the staff. Loved the 5 hour kayak with Caleb. The with was initially cloud cover and gloomy; ended the last 2 hours with blue skies and mid-70s. Don't let the initial weather forecast scare you.

This was one of the funnest activities my wife and I did while visiting the Northwest. Our guide Gary was the best! The kayaks are very steady so you can plan on staying dry. We explored across a couple channels and around some islands seeing beautiful wildlife including porpoises, bald eagles, starfish, and more. Two days later we went on a whale watching expedition and saw a pod of Orcas in the same area we had been kayaking. The kayaking trip was worth every penny!

My family of 4 did the 3-hour, 4:30 PM kayak tour of out Anacortes, and it was beautiful! Our guide Ryan was fantastic. Easy-going, knowledgeable, and very attuned to the water throughout the trip, so that he could ensure we didn't get into any spots that could cause issues.

As far as logistics....they provide a covering so that water doesn't splash onto your legs and feet (though of course you have to be prepared for some possible water), which is very nice, as we didn't have that on a different recent kayak rental elsewhere. From our prior experience, I'd learned to bring a small backpack with water and a snack, chapstick etc. but to bring a small plastic bag (I just used a trash bag) to avoid the backpack getting wet on the bottom of the kayak...though in this case, while nice for peace of mind, wasn't totally necessary due to the covering they provided. The life vest had a chest zippered pocket which I used to put my phone in (in a baggie) which was perfect for having handy for photos. (The camera will get wet/smudged so it was helpful to also have a couple tissues to wipe it clean with.)

All in all, it was a beautiful day out on the water and learning some things from Ryan along the way. I would have never dared go where we did on our own due to our limited open-water experience, so this was a great way to go. The owner answered the phone when I'd originally called to inquire about best reservation times/currents for a family with kids, and she was so helpful and friendly, as well as when we checked in for our kayak tour. We'd definitely do another tour with this company again, and recommend them!

I had some time between jobs so I booked a 4-day trip (by myself) with AKT. I was nervous about going alone, but my trip couldn't have been better!

First, AKT let me paddle a single kayak, which was a super huge bonus for me. Most other companies won't allow singles, which is no fun. Being in a single kayak is just so much better!

Second, it was just me and a couple from Michigan (who were awesome). I was so relieved to be in a small group, not some 10-person crowd!

Third, our guide, Matt Smith, was great - knowledgeable about the area, an expert kayaker, great to talk to, and an excellent chef! He made us feel at ease in the water (not that he needed to, the weather was so perfect), and had great stories to tell us about all of his adventures. The camp spots that Matt picked out for us were awesome, with great views and almost no other people.

My favorite part of the trip was an evening paddle to hike up to the top of Eagle Cliff, where we watched the most amazing sunset ever, with the greatest views of the San Juans and Mt. Baker. Then we did a moonlight paddle back to our campsite through bioluminescence!

The trip was such a wonderful, relaxing, beautiful experience - I'll definitely come back to the San Juans and book another trip with ATK!

So glad we ended our vacation with a perfect day trip around Burrows and Allan Island. James did a great job asking everyone what they wanted to get out of the trip and then did his best to accommodate these expectations. He was outgoing, flitting between kayaks to keep everyone engaged, informing them of local wildlife while being respectful of habitats and other water craft. Probably a good thing too, because I just kept getting lost in the whole wonderful experience. AKT is a good outfit to go with. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Their gear, well tended. I tend to gravitate toward the white water, and wasn't sure how I'd like this. I loved it and the only thing I would have changed is that I wished it was longer because I did not want to get out of the water, lol.

I came in here looking for some wetsuit gear and instead found some really awesome information and super helpful staff. I will be coming back here to do a kayak tour if I get another chance to be in Anacortes. Specifically Oliver was extremely helpful. I hope they take good care of that guy. I must say that if his attitude is representative of the kind of staff that they hire then you are in good hands if you come to this company.

On a whim we booked the bioluminsence kayak tour and are we glad we did. We started by paddling out and watching the sunset, while harbor porpoises were visible, saw some harbor seals and then paddled out to some coves where when it was dark enough we saw the magical bioluminsence.

To cap it off we could see so many brillinat stars incuding the Milky Way.

Our daughter heads off to college on Sunday and this trip was a summer highlight for sure.

At first grandma wasn't too sure about the sea kayaks and asked "how do I let you talk me into these things" but as we were ending our night she said "boy am I glad you talked me into this - what an amazing night. "

Don't forget your camera in a waterproof pouch. Kicking myself for omitting that so no photos - guess we will have to do it again sometime.!

I went on the 3 hour tour with a Ryan today and had a great time! I highly recommend this company. We saw seals and a bald eagle, and soak in the great views. I also learned about reading the water currents, kayaking maneuvers, and various geological features which really made the trip unique for me. Mostly I really enjoyed his company and felt like I was kayaking with an old friend, which made it that much more enjoyable.
One tip, to see the most on your trip you might want to plan to go during the low tide.

We had a great time on our trip with Anacortes Kayak Tours. The location is unbeatable. We saw Harbor Porpoise, seals, Bald Eagles, and a bunch of other interesting wildlife. Megan was a wonderful guide. I highly recommend having a high school science teacher as your guide. She was knowledgeable, fun and professional.

I had a blast!

I had a blast!

I went, in a single kayak, on the all day sea kayaking trip.

I had never kayaked before, let alone row 10 miles, in the sea (great workout!), in one day.

I was a bit sore after, but.....I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!!

The tour guide did a great job of watching out for each person, in each of the kayaks. He engaged in conversation with each of us. Trust me....that was a feat because all of us were going at different speeds (I was the slowest..so sad).

And the ultimate, best part of the trip.....the sea life!

I saw a sea cucumber, starfish, tinsy tiny fish that jumped out of the water pretty much the whole trip, a bald eagle that swooped within 60 feet above my head, 2 sea otters, a lot of sea lions (including a baby!!!). The sea lions (and baby) kept following, from a distance, for awhile until they gave up and went back home.

It was AWESOME!!!!

Then there's the views... WOW!

In the insanity of our government and craziness that has hit this world....I had forgotten about what was more important....calm, peace, and natural 'behavior'.

I won't say more about the sadness of the world, but I will say this......

If you want to remember what it's like to be human again, and you're traveling through Anacortes......take a sea kayaking tour with this company, because they're...... AWESOME!!!!!

Side note: Before I went on this trip I was warned that I would be lucky to see one sea lion. So, before the trip, I prayed really hard, and kept my mind opened. I told myself that I would be happy just to get away from the insanity of the city...just for a few hours. I told my Lord that I would be happy with whatever I saw.

This trip was a blessing for someone that started her life over again 4 months prior to the virus, only to lose it when the government started mishandling everything.

I don't know where, or what my life will end up like.....but I know this..... I'm not going to forget that there's still beauty, or even kindness, in this world anymore.

Thanks for being in business!!!

Cheers

If you re around Anacortes with some time to kill I would highly recommend a kayak tour with them. We booked a 1.5 hour kayak tour and it was the best time we had on our short getaway to Whidbey Island. Our guide James was very helpful, knowledgeable and witty. The tour is well organized and you ll see some beautiful bits of nature and wildlife.

We took a short tour a few days ago. We left from Bowman bay. James, our guide, was absolutely amazing. He was really friendly and even though it was the early bird tour was wide awake and ready to go. We saw some sea life (a seal and a porpoise) and so much more. We did not get wet at all ( even getting into the kayak). Plus, even though it was a cooler morning with a little rain the gear added so much warmth that I got hot. We do have some experience kayaking in a lake but I think anyone that can get in and out of a kayak could do this. My husband and I enjoyed that so much that we are wanting to plan an overnight trip the next time we come to Washington. I have already recommended this to the locals we met and family that are planning a trip to Washington!

Brilliant day! Had James as our leader and was impressed with his knowledge of marine life and loved that he felt like an old friend we were catching up with. Kayaks and equipment were in great shape (the best we ve ever been on.) parking was easy and the woman in the office was fantastic. We feel quite fit and found the kayak to be tiring and energizing. Would def visit again if in the area.

We did the quickie and I would say it was super fun! But short- honestly expected to see more. But despite that we saw a porpoise and a star fish and were taught about bulb kelp. A Memorable Day at Bowman Bay

A Memorable Day at Bowman Bay
My 6-year-old grandson, Declan, and I did the 1 1/2-hour family tour at Bowman Bay (Deception Pass). It was an outstanding time and Katie, our guide, made the time very memorable. Katie shared her knowledge of the sea life, birds, and showed us how to eat kelp. Declan really liked eating the kelp and I did too. I wanted my grandson to have a positive, enjoyable first experience kayaking, and Katie made that happen. I think Declan probably did most of the talking but his talking was an indication of how much he (and I) enjoyed our time. Katie is an outstanding guide. This is my second trip with AKT and I highly and enthusiastically recommend these trips. I plan to return with Declan for a three-hour trip out of Skyline. Thank you for a great time!

Eight friends and I went on an overnight, self-catered trip. As the organizer, I liked that the owners reached out to me via email and phone to tell me about what to expect, and to verify I had all of my questions answered. The guides were friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The locations we're beautiful. My only feedback is that that two guides were probably not necessary for experienced outdoorspeople like us, which maybe would have made it a bit cheaper. ($300 seems a bit steep for an overnight.) Overall I would definitely recommend this company. It was a great experience.

Awesome tours, knowledgable guides, great adventures!

Me and my family made the 1,5 hour kayak tour from Bowman Bay for a few times with smaller kids - excellent begginer tour and everybody enjoyed the 1,5 hours.

Last year and this year as my kids grew to teenager we undertook the 3 hours tour around Buroows Island. Both years with Matt, this year Oliver joined both of them very knowledgable, considerate guides, ran an extra mile to fulfill our group's requests. For example we stopped to see the lighthouse in the West side of the Island, and they made sure I can see my beloved porpoises.

Other than them we saw seals, eagles, water birds, from the Bowman Bay trips cormorans, even cormoran nests as well.

We learnt some of the useful (edible) sea plans as well.

Until they operate so flexibly and family friendly, we stick with this company that's for sure!

We had such a fantastic time with AKT! This was our first time ever kayaking and it went as smooth as good be. The evening was perfect with the sun setting toward the end of our trip, the water was calm, and we saw a lot of wildlife out there. James, our tour guide, was friendly and very informative. We left Flounder Bay, circled around Burrows Island, came up against the edges of Young Island, headed out into Burrows Bay a bit, then back to the marina. We spent 3-4 hours out there. We had a fantastic experience with AKT.

We had a fantastic experience with AKT.
My 73 year old father was in town from Pennsylvania and when presented with the option of Kayaking in Puget Sound or Zip Lining in Leavenworth he asked, "Why do I have to pick one".
So, I called up ATK to clarify how we could manage a group of 3 and ended up making my reservation with the very kind woman on the phone instead of online as I had intended. They gave us all the information that we needed and it was listed on the website as well as the email that they sent as confirmation.
I made the reservation on Friday for Sunday so I was already within their 48 hour cancellation window at that time. So, I was of course very worried when I cut the tip of my thumb of on Saturday night. A few stitches later and a rubber glove to keep my bandage dry we were off to Anacortes
We arrived to find everything exactly as they had informed us with excellent directions to the facility. The PFDs, spray skirts, dry bags (for your camera and other items to be kept dry) and Kayaks were all in great condition. Our guide was Stevie and we knew right away that we were in the presence of someone who knows what they are doing and loves what they do. She had an expression of 'can you believe this is my job?' during the entire 3 hour tour. She was knowledgeable about the area, the wildlife and even some of the geological features of the islands. We had a fantastic time out on the water. We saw porpoise, seals, and a few other animals as well.
It was a great tour and value for our money. We are already talking about going back next summer for a 2 or 3 day excursion with AKT.

Wouldn't recommend the Anacortes Kayak Tours or bioluminescent trip. Watching the sunset part was cool but confused why we just stayed in one place for what must have been over an hour. We left right before the sun set and didn't go far out. We had just left the beach 30 minutes prior.

Maybe the day trips are better or maybe the guides were tired being the last trip of the day??? I don't know.

Great experience with AKT! Went on an impromptu 3 hour tour with a friend of mine from out of town. Matt was our guide and he took us to Burrows island where we were able to walk around and check out the old light house and incredible views!

I would definitely recommend taking a tour whether you're visiting or a local resident. The staff is friendly and the equipment is great!

Super professional guides, friendly staff, and incredible scenery. We took the Half Day trip, it was easy and a ton of fun. Kinda wish we had opted for the Full Day outing, just because it was much easier than we expected and that would have given us more time out there.
It was great to be able to experience kayaking in the San Juan Islands without needing to bother with a ferry. (Yes, Anacortes is located on an island, a beautiful island actually.)

We are definitely going on an overnight trip later this year with Anacortes Kayak Tours. Their guide told me that the food is amazing, and that Cypress Island is the place to go.

My boyfriend and I went on a 3 day trip along Cypress island leaving on May 19. It was the most comfortable and enjoyable kayaking and camping trip we had in our life so far. Our Guide - Sean was super knowledgeable and informative. We learnt lots on this trip - like reading the waters, survival tips and most importantly, the local wildlife. This was our first kayaking trip, and it was not stressed at all. Everything is planned and flexible at the same time. Sean listened to our preferences and recommended trips that we can do.

If you are reading this and deciding, get the all inclusive package with food. One of the highlights of our trip is definitely the food. We were served with dishes cooked on site, making this trip a nice camping vacation.
Lots of kudo to Sean!

We took an early-bird 3 tour with 3 teenage girls and 2 adults last week. We had perfect conditions. The water was glassy, the weather was great, and our guide, Caleb, was very nice and knowledgeable about the area and sea life that we saw. He paddled all of us novices at a leisurely pace. The whole experience was great. I would highly recommend this tour/company.

This is the third time I have been on a kayak tour with KT. They are OUTSTANDING. I took my 6 year old grandson, Declan, and his Mom. Sam was our guide and we were on a 3 hour tour. Sam was outstanding. He explained the fundamentals of kayaking, how to wear the life vest t and spray skirt, and the currents and safety procedures very clearly. He talked about the animals we saw to include porpoises, seals, birds, and other fish. We visited an island, and had a wonderful tour of the bay. Sam was an outstanding guide. I highly recommend AKT for their professionalism, safety orientation, and having a wonderful time in a nature type environment!

Did the 6:30 to 9:30 pm Sunset & Bioluminescence ...

Did the 6:30 to 9:30 pm Sunset & Bioluminescence Special kayak tour from Bowman Bay on Sep 20 2020. We had to meet at 4399 Bowman Bay Rd at 6pm. My GPS took me to the parking area near the campground! Took a u-turn & followed the road back to the first stop sign and took a right turn. This took us ~100 yards into the main parking lot. You can see the Kayak Shack and kayaks lined up. You will need a Discover pass to park. Washrooms available on site. The tour was very well organized and our guides Mike, Jake and Katy did a great job! Kudos to the team! Clear instructions were given & the right expectations were set before we head out as a large pod of kayakers. They shared some fun facts about the wildlife we came across. We saw a whole bunch of porpoises, a mother lode of bull kelp and a seal. The bioluminescent phytoplankton were magical! Overall a great experience! Just have your nav/map downloaded before you head there- a lot of places do not have network coverage & most parking spots in the area including deception pass do require a discover pass. I highly recommend joining this group for your next kayaking adventure.

I'm so glad I chose Anacortes kayak tour for my first time kayaking experience. My instructor was Alex and he was literally the best! My friend and I enjoyed our kayak experience a lot, thanks to Alex. He was super fun to hang with and had a lot of patience since we kept making mistakes. If you ever go to Seattle or Anacortes, you MUST book a tour with Anacortes Kayak Tour Company and if possible, ask for ALEX to be your instructor. You won't regret one bit! I promise!!

The whole experience for our trip was wonderful. We did a 3 hour afternoon tour. Signing up was easy, we had enough information on what the experience would be like, and felt prepared when we got there. It was our first time sea kayaking and ended up just being the 3 people in our party on the tour (myself, husband and 13 y.o. brother). Pax (oh gracious hope I spelled that right/remembered correctly) was fantastic. He gave great instructions and we felt safe. It was a great day out on the water and he gave us tons of history on the islands, creatures, and people. No big whales, but porpoises, seals, and an osprey gave us plenty to look at. Will definitely be back for one of the longer tours next year !

We had a wonderful time on our 3 hour guided tour. Alex was extremely knowledgeable and a great teacher. It was very windy the morning of our trip, and Megan was great ensuring that the wind died down so our trip would be enjoyable and to make sure we had a good experience. If you re in Anacortes this would definitely be a great way to spend your time!

We did a 3 hour tour there with Thor as our guide. Everything about it from start to finish was absolutely amazing. We ended up basically having a private guided tour with him. We called a few hours before on our way there to make reservations and the staff in the office was very nice and accommodating. Check in was fast and easy with the help of the staff. We met our guide and since it was just 2 of us after assessing our ability, he gave us the quick crash course on safety and paddling. He gave us the general overview of the tour, but said he would tailor it to what we want to do since it was a small group. He was extremely helpful with tips and tricks to paddle more efficiently and showed us a few different techniques. I a. Not sure exactly what time we hot in, but I think our time went over a bit and he was very nice and even offered to let us paddle around the marina more if we wanted. I would reccomend this to anyone looking for a guided or even if your more advanced, it was less like a guided tour than just paddling with a very knowledgeable friend. Thank you guys for everything! We will be back soon!!!

Did the three hour tour, but with no Gilligan-like problems. Our guide was Matt, who was super professional and wrangled feuding, insolent kids and parents Incapable of paddling in a straight line with aplomb. The equipment was good quality, as well. I will be back to try the five hour tour.

My group of 8 got to Anacortes for the Saturday 8 a.m. 3 hour tour and we had a spectacular day paddling. We bonded over the drive up there, snacking on kelp while paddling through pretty views and a sunny day, beers at a great lunch spot afterwards and then drive back to Seattle. Nate and Meg are really great people and knowledgeable guides. They made us all jealous that they get paid for working is such a wonderful spot. Pretty much the service from this outfit is outstanding from point A - Z. I couldn't give them a higher recommendation.

Really helpful guide (Conrad) and the most stable ...

Really helpful guide (Conrad) and the most stable tandem kayaks ever! We've been in a few and these were definitely far wider and stable than any before. The stability is great for beginners as they wobble around less making the paddling more enjoyable. The custom kayak dock at Anacortes is fantastic. Usually getting in and out of a kayak is not a very graceful task but the dock made it so easy. My husband is 6'4 and he was quite cramped in the front by the end so if you're tall try and be at the back of the boat. Paddles, PFD's, kayaks, dry bag (if required) and a guide were all provided. Bring your own snacks, water and some shoes you don't mind getting a little damp (from any water already in the kayak) especially if you're in the back as the foot pegs can give you blisters otherwise. I'd definitely recommend sunglasses too on a bright day as well as a hat as the sun reflects upwards from the water.

We went for the 3 hour tour and unlike some other tours where we'd stop and float for a bit this was a lot of paddling and our friend who's not used to paddling was pretty tired by the end. But the guide kept checking with everyone as to how they were feeling and made sure that everyone knew where we'd be paddling next at all times so we could have shortened the mileage if we'd wanted. Unfortunately there wasn't much wildlife around but it was good to see some of the islands from the water and get a paddle in. Very well organised outfit and we felt safe at all times, would use them again.
