Always a great experience, grounds are clean, lots of free grills to use, picnic tables, clean bathrooms, nice trails to walk on through the trees to the indoor or outdoor theater, even free bug spray available to avoid battling the mosquitos. A beautiful setting for the outdoor theater with entertaining and quality performances

I have seen many shows over the years. My in-laws have been going here for something like 20 years. Every show I have seen is well done. They make the most out of a small stage with many permanent features. The hike from the parking lot up to the actual outdoor theater is pretty easy. Bring along a picnic basket and some wine for before the show as they have many tables scattered around the premise to enjoy the evening. The seats in the theater are spaced nicely, not crammed together. You won't feel like you're sitting on the lap of the person next to you.

Always a wonderful time, especially if you decide to have a picnic beforehand. The scenery is incredible, as it is all set into a lovely Wisconsin ridge, and they've used a very cabin or campground like way of setting up that fits perfectly with the surroundings.

They have beer, wine, soda, and plenty of snacks, as well as grills and picnic tables. They have large enough bathrooms, a few pavilions for larger groups, and while the theater is a hike up the hill, they have transportation up and down the hill for those who need it. They are accessible as well.

They have several gift shops, and accept donations if you wish to be a patron.

The main theater is outside, and they will cancel a show if it becomes dangerous outside, but if it's lightly raining, they may continue the show. Check the local weather, and plan accordingly.

The actors, crew, and staff all do a fantastic job. I cannot recommend this place enough, it is a magical bit of Wisconsin tradition.

12th Night was spectacular. They took full advantage of the wit and humor and made it easy to understand the language. The bugs were not a problem and it was great to experience such quality theater in a natural setting. Congratulations to a very professional organization, cast, and crew. I look forward to coming back.

What's not to love! They even have bug spray if you want it. There's something special about seeing the play outdoors. You have to respect an acting troupe ready to surmount obstacles like a sudden gust of wind scattering necessary props. Wonderful refreshment stands, pre-order dinner options, and great facilities to picnic and even grill your own food you might choose to bring (all outside food must be consumed in the picnic area and left at your car). With an eclectic selection of souvenirs and plays, there is something for every taste.

My daughter and I have been coming annually for many years, and it is a highlight of our year. We saw American Buffalo on Friday, Sept. 5. We were seated so close to the stage that we felt a part of the action rather than a viewer. All three principals were outstanding, and the stage design was so completely true to the nature of a resale shop. It is a thought-provoking play which promotes a lot of discussion after seeing it. Highly recommend it.

I am only going to post once, but consider this 5 star review to cover all the performances I have seen at APT over the years. I have never been disappointed, and yet I am continually surprised at the level of excellence. I am very grateful to have them in our area.

We attended the play, She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith. I'd have to say it's my all time favorite play!
My daughter and I have started our summer tradition of a yearly picnic and a play, they never disappoint!

An open-air theatre in WI in a wonderful setting. A big picnic area, 2 great gift shops, and some very talented performers. I go there every time I'm in WI. Their theme is "Come play in the woods" It's a beautiful place.

The natural setting is gorgeous and the troupe is amazing. We go every year, typically more than once. There's lots of parking, but getting out at the end of the show can take a while, so don't plan anything immediately after a show.

This place is an experience you need in your life. Incredible acting and shows, it'll transport you back to simpler times. Just pray your cell phone doesn't malfunction and start screaming at full volume while you rush out of the theater to try to silence it for 2 minutes while Macbeth glares at you while waiting for his cue.

We have enjoyed quality dramatic productions at APT for several decades. Comfortable seating in a woodland setting with gourmet concessions and very professional staff make this the perfect, slightly out of the way venue for your Shakespearean appetite. Being able to show up early and picnic or hike is a bonus only this theater can offer. We will return here often.

It was very fun. I saw a Shakespeare play. It was very energetic, very fun for all ages. However, i would be careful of weather. There is no roof, so bring a poncho if nessasary. Food is kinda pricey. But overall, 7/10. Would visit again.

Over many years, APT has figured out how to deliver a perfect outdoor theater experience. The grounds make logistics easy - parking, picnicking and the theater are all within easy walking distance. Food, refreshments and last-minute items are all on-hand for convenience, but the commercial stuff is all very tasteful and doesn't feel touristy or exploitive. Picnicking areas abound... mosquito repellent is free, sprinkled around the grounds... a PA system announces when playtime is near, or when impending weather is affecting play time. More important than any of this, however, is the quality of the productions themselves: gorgeous, professional, tasteful, impressive. The actors, the costumes, the sets are all amazing. Each time we go, I walk away astounded at the time and love invested in this place and process, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Bravo to everyone at APT!

One of the best theater experiences you will ever have regardless of which play you pick. The Open Air Theatre is an experience in itself and the actors bring the Productions to life in a way that is seldom experienced in any other venue.

Do yourself a favor and go to APT--you won't be disappointed. It is top quality theater in a beautiful setting. The acting, design, directing, front of house staff, organization, and price rival any theater I've been to in Milwaukee, Chicago, or Door County. The price of tickets is definitely worth it. And, for a theater that is on the top of a hill in the middle of a forest, they are incredibly accessible--patrons who can't walk up the hill or otherwise need assistance can be taken by shuttle or drive up an access road with also immediate access to setting. There is plenty of leg room in the seating area, and no bad seats in the house. The concessions are delicious and not what you would typical find at a theater (hot cocoa, coffee, trail mix) among other things. Everyone who I interacted with who worked there seemed as though they genuinely love their jobs and are working together to make the best experience possible for all patrons, not just those with the expensive seats or those who gave money. They are remodeling their main theatre, and I can't wait to see what they've done!

American Players Theatre: A World-Class Classical Theater in Spring Green, Wisconsin

American Players Theatre (APT) is a renowned classical theater located in the picturesque town of Spring Green, Wisconsin. Founded in 1979 by a group of actors and theater enthusiasts, APT has become one of the most respected and beloved theaters in the country. With its commitment to producing high-quality productions of classic plays, APT has earned a reputation as a world-class destination for theater lovers.

APT's mission is to bring great works of literature to life on stage through innovative productions that engage and inspire audiences. The company's repertoire includes plays by Shakespeare, Molière, Chekhov, Ibsen, Shaw, and many other great playwrights from around the world. Each season features a mix of classic plays and new works that explore timeless themes such as love, power, justice, and human nature.

One of the things that sets APT apart from other theaters is its unique outdoor setting. The company performs in two different venues: the 1,148-seat Hill Theatre and the 201-seat Touchstone Theatre. Both theaters are nestled among towering trees on a beautiful hillside overlooking the Wisconsin River valley. The natural beauty of this setting adds an extra dimension to each performance and creates an unforgettable experience for audiences.

In addition to its regular season performances from June through October each year (with some special holiday shows), APT also offers educational programs for students at all levels. These programs include workshops with professional actors and directors as well as opportunities for students to attend performances at discounted rates.

APT's commitment to excellence extends beyond its productions themselves; it also includes its dedication to sustainability practices both on- and off-stage. The company has implemented numerous green initiatives over the years such as using energy-efficient lighting systems throughout their facilities; recycling materials used during productions; composting food waste generated by their café; reducing water usage through low-flow fixtures; using eco-friendly cleaning products; encouraging carpooling among staff members; promoting public transportation options for patrons attending shows at their venue(s); etc.

Overall American Players Theatre is truly one-of-a-kind cultural institution that offers something special not only for those who love theatre but also anyone who appreciates natural beauty or sustainable living practices!
