My wife and I met our son and his girlfriend to see "As You Like It"! We arrived early and had a picnic at the many tables provided. What a great experience. Seeing live theater, especially at this caliber, is always a treat, especially when you live in a small town. Take the time to see a play here, you won't be disappointed.

APT has been a favorite place to go in my family for many years. I've never left feeling disappointed in a play. My all time favorite production of theirs was their rendition of Pride and Prejudice. It's one of my favorite stories and they exceed my expectations. APT is all about the experience. Our favorite way to go to APT is to bring a picnic dinner and enjoy it on their beautiful picnic grounds. It's extra fun because they always have live music playing too. After the picnic, there's a short hike up the hill to the outdoor theater. The theater itself is beautiful. They've built it into nature in a way that makes the stage a natural beauty. Depending on when you go, it can be chilly and/or buggy. They have bug spray for you to use, but I recommend bringing layers! Overall, APT is one of my favorite places to go with extremely talented actors and staff.

We saw "Death of a Salesman" last week. The acting was great and the whole production very well done. I love the outdoor atmosphere and the changing lighting as the sun sets and dusk becomes evening. This theater is for people who like something different, and don't mind the breeze, occasional bug or the calling of a whippoorwill during the play.

Always thought provoking and superbly produced live theater. The Touchstone theater is wonderful to visit in the fall. Just saw A Doll's House Part 2, which was the final tribute to a season full of strong women.

Always a professional, amazing show. Wehave been coming for 4 years now and it seems to only improve. If you love classic theater, there is nothing like this outside of a large city and this company bests many of the big city companies.

We visit every year and go to at least 2 different plays each season. Both the indoor and outdoor theatres are amazing. The pre-show picnic area is huge and has many amenities including grills, shelters, bug repellent and great concessions. The actors and actresses are very talented. You quickly find favorites that you see each season in different roles while welcoming the new talent as well. In the fall on a night with a full moon there is no better place to be than outside and up the hill watching these amazing folk perform the work of Shakespeare.

I have attended numerous APT performances over the years and they are uniformly excellent. Picnicking at APT before the performance is a good way to get in the mood for the plays, but remember to bring bug spray if you do - the mosquitoes in the picnicking areas can be fierce!

Wonderful Shakespeare up on the hill under the stars. Mosquitos on the walk up but not really any bugs in the theater. Camp across the way at Tower Hill State Park or stay at the hotel across the way. Call ahead and reserve a boxed meal to picnic before hand.

Such a beautiful, peaceful place. We enjoyed a picnic basket dinner before the play, and had a wonderful night. We make a point to come to APT at least once a year, and look forward to it. Everything runs like clockwork here, and it's a magical experience. I highly recommend it.

A play in the woods is ineffable. Each year we trek out to Spring Green to see the magic in the open air (we haven't yet been in the new, indoor theatre). If you can afford the luxury, it is well worth it! Acting is stellar, accommodations are comfortable.

Happy 40th APT !!

Happy 40th APT !!
Twelfth Night was turning out to be an excellent play ...lots of energy ... wonderful cast and great acting.
And then Mother Nature intervened...just like the story we got caught in a storm and we all had to part ways. Maybe the Bard planned it this way? Anyway, awesome venue and effort by the APT team as always. Can't wait to see how this turns out ....

Returning travelers to APT for over 20 years. The core company is very strong and their lives bring a depth of connection to every production. A weekend at APT is always creative, inspiration and the environment is heaven. Great food to picnic before and between plays. We order tickets in Feb. and return every year.

There's no question that this is the best theater company in Wisconsin, perhaps the best in the Upper Midwest. I've heard it called the best in the country, but I can't attest to that. What I can say is that it combines magical atmosphere with superb acting talent to create some of the most memorable experiences I've ever had.

A truly unique and extraordinary experience. Everything about this venue is a pure delight, save for trying to leave the parking lot. Pro tip: have another picnic course ready so you can wait in/by your car in comfort while everyone leaves. The concessions are great, the bathrooms are acceptable, the seats are SUPER comfortable, the staff are incredibly nice and the actors are fantastic. I highly recommend checking out APT, especially for an evening show in the summer.

Romeo and Juliet: when the weather accommodates, ...

Romeo and Juliet: when the weather accommodates, and the acting is sublime, the experience of theatre is as deep as Juliet's sea. Whipporwills and Wood Thrushes added their otherworldly voices to the skilled and captivating actors on the outdoor stage to present a brilliant version of the tragedy that is so familiar and so painfully current in our world. While the dreaded slayings played out, and the ineffable love story wrapped itself around our hearts yet again, the audience was able to revel in the repartee between Mercutio and Romeo, the Nurse and Juliet and live the story for the thousandth time. APT is a priceless gem in our Wisconsin landscape. It is a privilege to attend. And Shakespeare owns the stage.

This is a lovely place to enjoy high quality theater. Bring a picnic or BBQ to ear before the play, then enjoy a post-picnic stroll up the hill or catch a shuttle bus to the play. A regional highlight.

Beautiful outdoor theaters with so many options of shows to choose from throughout the season! We saw As You Like It performed and could not be happier with the experience: the cast brought Shakespeare to life in such a unique and inspiring way! The seating is spacious, with plenty of legroom even in the 1000+ seat Hilltop theater. The staff is helpful, friendly, and accommodating. There is a concessions shop available for any pre-show picnicking, and the grounds have many tables and grills available for patron use. One thing to note is no glass beverages or containers are permitted in the theater itself, and you'll be given a paper cup to pour beverages into instead. Located in the beautiful hills of Spring Green near the Wisconsin River, the American Players Theater provides an experience to remember!

About American Players Theatre

American Players Theatre: A World-Class Classical Theater in Spring Green, Wisconsin

American Players Theatre (APT) is a renowned classical theater located in the picturesque town of Spring Green, Wisconsin. Founded in 1979 by a group of actors and theater enthusiasts, APT has become one of the most respected and beloved theaters in the country. With its commitment to producing high-quality productions of classic plays, APT has earned a reputation as a world-class destination for theater lovers.

APT's mission is to bring great works of literature to life on stage through innovative productions that engage and inspire audiences. Both theaters are nestled among towering trees on a beautiful hillside overlooking the Wisconsin River valley. The natural beauty of this setting adds an extra dimension to each performance and creates an unforgettable experience for audiences.

In addition to its regular season performances from June through October each year (with some special holiday shows), APT also offers educational programs for students at all levels. These programs include workshops with professional actors and directors as well as opportunities for students to attend performances at discounted rates.

APT's commitment to excellence extends beyond its productions themselves; it also includes its dedication to sustainability practices both on- and off-stage. The company has implemented numerous green initiatives over the years such as using energy-efficient lighting systems throughout their facilities; recycling materials used during productions; composting food waste generated by their café; reducing water usage through low-flow fixtures; using eco-friendly cleaning products; encouraging carpooling among staff members; promoting public transportation options for patrons attending shows at their venue(s); etc.

Overall American Players Theatre is truly one-of-a-kind cultural institution that offers something special not only for those who love theatre but also anyone who appreciates natural beauty or sustainable living practices!
