This children's museum is a jewel of Lynchburg. It is better than the Children's Museum of Virginia in Portsmouth, and is a strong rival to those in Greensboro, NC, and Bangor, ME. The exhibits are truly interactive, and teach everything from history to botony, engineering to nutrition, physics to music. Add to that what is essentially a playground of tubes that travels four stories up the center of the building to an observation tower at the top with free binoculars, and you've got a place you can spend the whole day and feel like your kids learned something valuable in the process.

We went there to celebrate my niece's birthday. My son had a great time. He loved exploring everything. His favorites: The Paint Box, pirate ship with huge light bright, The James River with boats and crawling through the tubes. I wish we had one of these in Delaware. It's fun for the whole family!

Fantastic place to take your kids with all kinds of activities and games, and interactive displays. As one bad review mentioned, not really a place to take someone with a wheelchair or who has issues with mobility, as there are a ton of stairs and levels to navigate. If you just have an active child, this is a bonus though, with a jungle gym in the center that goes up and down through the levels and at the top has a view of the whole river area. It's semi-expensive, but worth it. The staff is a bit aloof and non-present, I'd like to see a little more staff that can not only help kids, but also chill them out a bit, usually there are birthday parties going on and many kids roam free throughout the building running and yelling, etc. Not a huge deal, but it can get a little grating with so many kids being unsupervised and hitting and slamming various objects from the interactive stations, which is distracting for kids actually using the items. Overall though, a must see for kids, and very unique for this area.

Does not allow strollers. Great for kids of all ages, very clean, and well maintained. However, having to carry a seven month old around all day wore me down. Wish they would have listed this on the website.

I had been before and was not looking forward to going back this time. I attended a birthday party. I can say, I had a good time as well as my son. He was not ready to leave. Staff was very nice. I now look forward to coming back.

The piano on display out front - on the street - not only has a see-through cover over the strings and brightly-painted hammers, but a bench for people to sit and play! Amazement not only for kids who have never seen inside of a piano - or a piano up-close at all - but for passersby when a real pianist walks by, sits down and starts to play! We didn't have time to go in, but it must be fantastical in there.

We went with our 18 month old daughter and she had a great time. It was very fun for all of us to spend a chilly day inside playing, especially when the nearby park is closed.

I m not entirely sure why I had to wait 10 minutes after my card was swiped to pay while the front desk person spoke on the phone with someone about a birthday party and then to someone else about his plans for the next day. Especially because all I needed to do was sign the receipt. It was a little strange and my daughter was getting squirmy while we waited.

Overall we had a great time and would go again.

We have been taking our little one here since she was 1 year old. Our father-in-law always buys us passes so we never have to pay to get in. There is so much for kids of all ages to do here. Our little one really enjoys the pirate ship area which is for toddlers/babies. There is a big light bright underneath the ship that she will play with for a long time. The area with the golf balls that go down different tracks is also a lot of fun. There are slides and play areas, a water area, painting, dress up, music, and so much more. It is really nice to have it right here in Lynchburg.
