Authentic German food and beers in a historical home. The service was extremely slow. Took over 15 minutes to be greeted and get our drink order. Food took over 45 minutes to come out. Prices were high for the portions you get.

If your not blue blood and in your Sundays best don't come here!
Walked in and after several minutes of being ignored a hostess walked up and promptly informed us that they were closed even though the door was open with several different parties eating
Will not come back and will not recommend because they obviously make enough money to turn away paying customers

Good German food, albeit limited to schnitzel- and sausage-type meals. Try the sausage platter for some really good Wurst. The decor is somewhat dated, but still feels authentic. The staff are pleasant and helpful and willing to give their opinions on the menu. Definitely a must-visit if staying in New Braunfels for the weekend.

Absolute delight. Nice ambience. The atmosphere was warm and comforting. The host was polite and took great care of us. Great food and excellent beer and wine. The Sarg highly recommends this place. Top notch especially with a little green. Stoned, knowing Omas in the back takin care of me in the kitchen is an excellent feeling. Will go back!

It was overpriced. I ordered the sausage platter and only got 2 sausages on it with meager potatoes and small saucer of red cabbage. The soup tasted like something out of a Campbell's soup can. My mother's pork wienerschnitzel plate had much larger portions for the same price. The total bill was $47.00 and they made the "mistake" of charging us each $48.00. My mother wasn't signing it. The waiter came out and said that he had charged us for the wrong bill. The wait time for the meal was extensive. They did, however, give us extra bread and sparkling water. Thank heavens! We were starved.

This was our first visit and we loved it! The food was excellent, the house and decor were charming and the waitress was very friendly and helpful.
I had asparagus soup, potato pancakes, sauerkraut and schnitzel with a combo of the mushroom and sour cream gravy (at the suggestion of our waitress and the mix was amazing!) Everything tasted great and the servings were large. The sauerkraut was very close to what I had when I visited Germany and have been searching for 10 years to find it again. My husband had the Sauerbratten and red cabbage and was very pleased as well. We liked the German bread so much that we bought a loaf to take home.
We live in Houston but will definitely make the trip back to New Braunfels regularly just to eat here!

This was an incredible dining experience. The service was amazing- quick, attentive, and helpful on the menu choices. They had an opinion and passion for the food.
The interior and ambiance was very cute and charming. Very clean. It had a nice warm atmosphere.
The food was delicious. Loved the schnitzel. The sausage platter was also a treat. I have also heard that the Bree is a treat that must be tried. Loved the soup (Normandy soup?). The said dishes added to the full experience with red sauerkraut, sauerkraut, spatzel, and other selections.
The deserts were also special. Loved the strudel. The Black Forest cake looked very good as well. Overall a place and experience that one must try.
Thank you.

The whole dining experience was great. Our waiter was very attentive and the atmosphere is exactly the kind of place my boyfriend and I like. The food was exceptional, especially the spatzle.

My family was never welcomed or even acknowledged. Even when we mentioned we weren't helped the lady told us she thinks our server is coming. We left and went to Krause's instead where you don't feel discriminated against because of your race.

Came in for my birthday dinner. They dont wear masks and when I saw someone wear one, they were asked to take off the mask because it "wasnt allowed". There is no social distancing. My party of 6 was CRAMMED in to a corner within a foot of others.
Food was great, dont get me wrong. But when I asked about the masks not being worn, our waitress who had a christian cross on her hand and wouldnt tell us her name, said to us "we dont want to wear them so we don't".
And when we got done eating, we were asked by the waitress to leave promptly because she has money to make.

We were in New Braunfels tonight and tried to have dinner here. They were not seating people who didn t have reservations unless we wanted to wait fir 2 hours. I wish they would have put it on Facebook, we wouldn t have wasted our time! Disappointed!!!

Very nice old style brick building with a new look inside but with a brick interior. Hard wood floors small rooms but still large enough to serve a good amount of people as well as out door dining available. The food is very good with a good touch of German cooking. The food is presented simple but still looks appetizing. The wait staff is friendly, courteous and knowledgeable of all the cuisine. If your looking for German style food then this is the place to try.

I really, really wanted this to be a good restaurant. Based on the reviews that we read, we expected it to be. However if you are looking for true German Cuisine with a deep layering of flavor, this pales in comparison. The food was okay, it is just not at the level we expected....especially for the price. It was bland, and tasted like things were prepared A LOT in advance, not made to order.

Again...the food was just okay. The atmosphere and staff were nice. If you are looking for truly good German food,, however, I would keep looking.

Best German food ever!! Much better than anything even in Fredericksburg!! Very tasty and delicious!! Great atmosphere and reminds me so much of the quaint little cafes in Germany!! Have been here many times and will continue to come back many more times!! Makes me so proud of my German heritage!!

Excellent food and atmosphere. We didn t have a reservation, but they seated us right away. Set in an early German immigrant house complete with accordion player serenading everyone. Oh, and the bread was especially good!! Highly recommend!!

Took my dad for his birthday dinner and we were both sorely disappointed. When they brought out the food, we asked about the potatoes. The waiter told us that the bratkartoffel were made on the flat top. They looked like they were the frozen diced potatoes that went into a deep fryer and then kept warm and got dried out. The potatoes were stuck together and when pulled apart were full of grease and not good. The red cabbage tasted like it was straight out of a can and was very disappointing. The service was even worse the waiter/host took his sweet time for anything and when I asked about substituting another side for the soup/salad he said he would look into it and he never did. He also never refilled my drink. He did not check on us at all during our meal and when he came by after we were done and asked how the food was, we told him about the potatoes again and the red cabbage. He didnt seem to care and promptly asked if we wanted dessert. my dad laughed and said not after this sorry food. He again ignored the concerns that we had, I asked about a manager, he said the manager was not there. He then went to go get the check and brought out the check and then when he picked it up, he didnt even say anything to us. I got up, put my mask on and asked another server by the kitchen if there was a manager available, he said, yes let me get him. Then our waiter comes out hands me the check book for me to sign and said, I already told you there's no manager available. I also noticed that the kitchen staff were not wearing their masks and when our waiter was in the kitchen area he pulled the mask down under his chin. Absolutely a terrible customer service experience and not authentic german food. I spent a good part of my childhood with my german grandparents and my dad is from Germany. Considering the plates are over $20/plate this experience was horrible and service was worse.

My Mom and came today for the lunch specials. They bring out the rye swirl bread first, that is so good. Be careful it will fill you up. I had the schnitzel sandwich and she had the chicken salad. See my pictures of food in earlier post. Mine came with salad and she got the warm German potatoe salad. We had enough left for lunch tomorrow. The schnitzel here is my fav. I usually use an entire lemon on it as a meal. The sandwich has sauerkraut on it and is served with a side of golden brown mustard. Staff all had masks and Sanitizer is at the door when you walk in and for when you leave. I asked the manager about masks because I see on the windows and doors they are required. She said yes they have been, however one of her managers has a long issue and cannot wear a mask. Otherwise everyone had masks on and the food was fabulous. If you like good German food the owners are actually from Germany, try it out.

My family took me for my 75th birthday today. I've enjoyed German food when my husband was stationed in Germany. So when we came back to the States we always tried to look for restaurants that specialized in German food. I heard about your restaurant on the program "Texas Eats" and he had the best rating. So although my husband is no longer with us, I definitely believe he would have given this a big thumbs up. I know all my family was pleased with all the great food. And we will definitely come back again.

Food was exceptional: rich, flavorful, and made with love. Even the bread with butter served as an appetite enhancer was very delicious and high quality. Atmosphere: cozy, warm, and full of bright and cheerful German folk music from their talented accordionist. Service: kind, prompt, and flawless.

Awesome spot, come for schnitzel and the nice nap afterwards.
