I use to work here. I thought it would be a great place to get a start in the mental health field. Full of incompetent and uncaring workers. Endless fraternization, lack of proper leadership and direction. Couldn't leave that mess fast enough.

I was there in 1999 ran away 2003 biggest mistake of my life Allendale has it's good & bad like everything else in life but I love this place I was just bad is hell didn't no nothing bout the real world & how it works staff like Deborah Williams percy jay christine owain Williams paul I got love for all of them they tryed they best to help me the things I learned @ this place I still use to day this place can help any kid if they play the game right Allendale can open up a lot of doors I f up now I'm a convicted felon this place help me more then my hole famley ever did
My son attended Allendale and we had non stop issues. He s home and will never return. Multiple times he had bruises/injuries that weren t reported. Dcfs did get involved but my son won t speak to strangers so it did no good. The staff is horrible and management isn t much better. Your child is nothing but a pay check to them. You can address your concerns during the weekly CC but they just over look everything. Horrible place beware!!!!
If I could give this place a zero star rating I would. Horrible phone service. Every time I have tried to call my son there have always been issues with communication. The staff do not know how to work the phone what so ever. The staff have picked up the phone and would immediately hang up. I would call back as the staff told me to do so, and there would be no answer for the next hour or two. Completely ridiculous. The staff seriously need to be trained better. Do not recommend sending your children here especially if you want to talk to them everyday.
Alright, for a proper Review now. I used to be a Student here, near 2nd Grade to Half of 7th Grade. All I can say is this: Try not to anger the raging children here. It will end badly for both parties. I had a friend who, after the death of Tyshawn Andrews, left the School, because his district didn't want him at Allendale anymore. This, of course, was when I changed for the first time. I changed from a raging bigot to a lawful neutral. I have moved to Cyd Lash, and so has my former Teacher, 2nd Grade to 4th Grade. All I have to say is, don't go here if your son has ADHD, Depression, and/or Social Anxiety Disorder.
Allendale helped me become the young woman I am today. At first I didnt want to accept help and I was always following others. I learned to trust others and accept change. If your considering sending your child here, I think it would be the right choice. Definitely a last resort place. For the most part. I loved this place
This place is not where your kids belong. The staff are mistreating and over powering the youth. Your child or even yourself WILL be set up for failure.
i was actually there for 6 months and it was one of the best experiences i like how we didn't stay in the little cottages of whatever they were called me actually got to get out. They were several physical altercations but the staff handled them pretty well. I love how the staff didn't only think about themselves but thought about others. I think this is one of the best residential ive actually been to :) I will say there were a few staff there that needed o learn what they were doing and they did need to get things a little bit under control with dating and stuff but other than that i feel that it has helped me suceed in life i met a lot of people there that i wish i had their info anf they helped me out too. Thank you allendale.
Can one give a lower rating, please? This place is horrible. Most of the staff is incompetent and unconcerned about their patients. Management has ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE on how to do their jobs. I wonder how the company's insurance would feel if they knew about the employees having to use their own vehicles to transport children, when the company vehicles are unsafe to drive. How about the training compliance each employee "must" have... but do not. A thorough investigation on the practices and compliance should be done. Until then, DO NOT use/refer/think about this place.
Let's also not forget the drug usage by the staff. They need to be tested, randomly. At least 1/4 of the staff should be tested each month. I would bet there would be a lot of positive test results.
I was there from 1981 to 1983..it has had a definite effect on my life for sure. Good and Bad, but bottom line i believe this place saved my life. From Shelter cottage to Gordon, from Wayne Prepura to Ann Adams and Tom Caruso and other staff, i have made friendships that have lasted my lifetime.
