A classic of Nova Scotia. But the celler reserve series is the star of the show cant recommended people too try them enough.
Ok tour but what you're really paying for is a few beers so only go if you're in the mood for 3 beer in an hour.
Exceptional tour, hilarious and very informative tour guides. The tour wasn't too long and the staff were impeccably on time with their transitions and handing off to next section, quite impressed. Also impressed with the amount of beer we were served! Great job AK your staff!
Great experience. Try the fish and chip with a blond Keith. Awesome. Price is decent
The brewery tour is a must if you visit Halifax. It s a beautiful place with very friendly staff. The store has some exclusive brews, thanks to their master brewer.
Amazing tour ! Funny & kind staff + great beer... All of that mixed with a bit of history. Highly recommend the tour !
We loved this fun filled short tour of Alexander Kieths brewery. Worth it, just for the beer tasting! And brought beer home to USA.
The tour includes beer tasting and a few are only available at the brewery. The fundy low tide white ipa was awesome. The best part was the girls singing at the end. Their voices were incredible. Like a great kitchen party.
Great tour, really informative! Plus they give you free beer! What's not to like!
Great tour - bit on the pricier side (For the tour) but worth doing at least once. Great atmosphere!
During our vacation to Nova Scotia, this is a place we visited because of all the recommendations we saw online and in travel books. As a beer enthusiast I was obliged to check it out. While we loved the buildings around it, the interior was a bit disheveled. It didn't have the corner bar feel or the big city feel; it kind of lacked identity. We decided to just have one beer or move on. It did feel a little touristy and didn't have the same authentic Halifax atmosphere that other places had.
On the bright side, the staff was very nice and we had a great conversation with the bartender about the beer. We didn't have anything to eat, so I'm not sure about the quality there. All in all, I was glad we stopped in for a beer but I probably find other interesting places to visit next time.
We stopped in for a pint in the mid afternoon and were pleasantly surprised by the craft beers on offer. On top of the standard Keith's offerings they also had a really smooth and delicious nitro stout and the Nor'easter was a dark and delicious IPA that packed a 105 IBU wallop. The sweet potato fries with curry mayo were also good.
The staff was highly energetic and provide interesting insights of the brewery, its beers and the history behind it. They also give us plenty of samples, which made me a little tipsy after the tour ended and that's a good thing haha, there's also iced tea and lemonade for those who do not drink or under the legal drinking age. Definitely a must place to visit while in Halifax.
Love the place, love the beer, love the history, love the people, love the price. Plain and simple.
Excellent food and drink though the server did not recognize one of our company was sight challenged and did not read what she should have off of the menu. She might have been new, but c'mon Alexander Keith's get you new staff off to a good start...
Great tour, awesome people. We bring our friends whenever someone comes to Nova Scotia for a visit. Just finished our fourth tour!
Theatrical tour, opportunity to try some of their new beers, at this time I suggest trying the Fundy and the pills
I'm not sure about the pub. It's too loud for me, wings were 6/10, nachos were good though.
Friends advised us to go to Alexander Ketih's Brewery and join the tour, as this is one of the famous hotspots of Halifax and a must do. They were so right.
We enjoyed the well planned and performed tour through the brewery as well as the tasting of different master brews from the menu.
We loved the new coffee and cocoa brew, that A. Keith's created.
The tour is well worth a visit and should most certainly be a stop on every city tour.
The Xmas party with the brewery tour and entertainment was exceptional I highly recommend it.
Great tour, however I would allow for more time at the end to drink the last 2 glasses.
Nice entertaining tour of the brewery with changing guides. Pleasant group size. Song of the guides in the cellar vault: very successful. We enjoyed it.
Great tour that my wife and I took. I've been to others and this tour is more about the history of Alexander Keith's and not the process of how they make the beer. For me, this was a great tour and well performed by all staff! Thanks!
For beer enthusiasts only. The first part is interesting, but not worth the $ 30 of the ticket. The second part ... blah (especially in a group of 2 strangers and a family of 2 children).
Stood at the bar for more than 10 minutes while bar staff were talking. When I finally placed my order, the beer was warm. Zero star rating I hope their service improves before tourist season.
Great fun. The actors are funny, knowledgeable and like beer!
I had a really good time even though I don't drink beer, and there was lots of beer ! The staff is amazing, knows it's stuff, sings and plays music ! Wow ! Good for kids too as they gave iced tea and lemonade to us and there were games :)
The patio after the tour where the served was a great experience
This was my second time doing this tour and it was just as good as the first time. The staff really but effort in to making it a fun experience. Lots of sampling and the music is wonderful! Would highly recommenced a tour!
While my now wife and I were dating we would spend the summer visiting her family in Quebec. We loved Alexander Keith's beer so much that we decided to take our honeymoon to Halifax just so we could visit. We took the tour and it was up to the same quality as their beer. The surprise at the end was great and one day I hope to walk through those doors again and drink in that tasting room!
So Christmas Eve I open up my specially marked 24 and.......
there is No Free East Coast Lifestyle Toque inside.
Very Grinchy
Was going to try and collect all 4 now I don t even have one.
There must be a way for you to restore my Christmas spirit !?
UPDATE:
After contacting Keith s they MAILED me the missing Toque ! Thank you for the toque and great customer service.
Didn't do the tour but had a great meal on and upper outdoor patio space. I'll have to visit again and do the tour.
Great tour, a few samples are given during the tour that last approx 1h. Entertaining guides
A must visit in Halifax, perfectly represents what the east coast is all about!
The place is usually busy as many tourists hit the door, but during the hours of operation they welcome you anyhow. The Beer is fresh and fantastic.
Fun time, learned a lot and the staff was knowledgeable, friendly and entertaining!
Food was good but the Drafts were awful and skunky. Please clean your equipment!
Although there's some bits of interesting information, you are so rushed to drink your included beer and to get out that I can't recommend it. I visited a couple of breweries and microbreweries and they never rush you.
A must visit, you will not be disappointed. Many chances to taste the beer and the pub is excellent
Catch these guys while an event is going on and you might luck into a free beer. Its a pretty historic venue definitely worth going to, to get a vibe of traditional Halifax
Totally worth the $20 to get in. You get a couple beers our to it and learn a lot about Halifax's and Alexander Keith's history.
Amazing to see the Brewery that I enjoy at most restaurants. Proud to see the original building and still making beer
If they could just tweak the hops a bit in the IPA, they would be one of the best in Canada. But I don't drink much, so what do I know!
When planning our honeymoon out here we knew we had to stop in and do this tour!
The brewery tour absolutely did not disappoint! Friendly, informative staff, and an exceedingly fun experience! I highly recommend going here and having a blast, I won't give too much information so you discover the fun for yourself, but if your reading this you're considering it, so do yourself a favour and go!
I did the brewery tour while in Halifax. It was very impressive. The guides were very passionate and motivated. The explanations were clear and interesting. We also had some beers to try. The tour was friendly. Definitely recommend it.
Always wanted to go. Wasn't disappointed. Food and service was good at the Red Stag and the tour was interesting. Was cool being in Alexander Keith's restored family home. The singing and acting was a little weird to me, but I guess some people would like it.
Was a little disappointed with the lack of product available at the gift shop.
Met expectations. Nothing spectacular, ok for the money.
Hey! It's a famous Brewery!....the suds and tour were awesome!
Very funny tour with good amount of beer to taste. Artist were funny! One Star less because it was too expansive. All in all definitely recommendable!
A very entertaining tour with some excellent beer awaiting you at the end. Well worth the money.
A highlight on our trip to Halifax. The tour is definately worth every penny! The staff were energetic, friendly, and very entertaining! The information on Alexander Keith's history and brewery are very informative. And to the gentleman and girls singing in the red stag, very talented!
Absolutely amazing place to get a tour. All the tour guides went above and beyond and made it an absolute blast!
There were only two of us on the tour and it did not matter at all, they had a ton of fun and so did we.
And there's a good amount of included beer! Honestly, way worth the money and time, a definite must-go, highly recommend!!!
Great event held there .... fun music and loved the costumes...
Unlike some comments I read, I'd say the tour is totally worth the price. The guides are nice and entertaining, you can tell they love their job and they love the brewery as well. You'll get some infos about Alexander Keith's himself, about the history behind the brewery and a bit on how the beer is made. You'll also get the chance to taste some of Alexander Keith's beers that aren't available elsewhere. I'd suggest you eat before (you'll get 30oz of beer to drink in a somewhat short time).
It's definitely an activity I recommend if you are in Halifax.
I wish I could tell you about the tour, but I can't because we were "sticker shocked" at the cost. It would have been over $125 for the five of us to go on the tour. My group was excited about the tour so we called the night before in order to hear any pertinent last minute details - there was no mention of a fee. I researched online and in the Doers and Dreamers 2017 Travel Guide where it stated there was a charge for the hour long tour but NO WHERE could I find the cost listed..... probably because noone would go if they knew ahead of time.
The tour is really interesting, however the time allowed to drink all the beer samples is too short!
I went for the tour this summer and chose the last tour of the day which for an extra cost gives you unlimited samples. We had a great time hanging out at the end and singing Tragically Hip songs. I had been a few years before but this time was the best.
A little rehearsed but, by far, the best brewery tour I've attended. I would hope to return in a few years without any changes. A lot of fun. Cheers.
Traveled all the way from Alberta with my mate to visit the brewery that makes my favorite beer (only thing I drank for the past 8 years). Prior to being outside of Halifax I called to confirm that they're open. I was quite excited at the thought of downing all of the delicious and thirst quenching Keith's beverages. Upon arrival I was told that it was closed for a private function and I was not allowed to enter. Needless to say I am absolutely angry, upset and most importantly I feel betrayed.
Great place to visit while in Halifax. Great history, awesome tour with a beer tasting and entertainment at the end of the tour. A must do!
The tour started off great going through the history then devolved into how to make beer. They should not show how to make beer as every brewery tour does this. They give a few opportunities to have some beer which is about 1.5 pints if you can drink fast. At one point you Everett a room which 3 ladies song some songs. It is very awkward and does not match the ambiance of the start of the tour. They should be playing songs with energetic music to bring the crowd together.
If you just really want beer, skip this tour. If you want some history and awkwardness then this is the tour for you.
Very passionate staff and lots of good beer samples!
Great staff. I was there for a pre wedding get togther. Staff very accomodating and pretty good pub grub
Fantastic tour, well worth the money, very entertaining
Very fun, not just about the beer! My girlfriend loved hearing about Nova Scotia and the man himself as well!
For the price...not worth the visit! Brief description of the history of how Alexander Keith rose to success and some testing.
The tour is worthwhile! My only complaint is that not much of the tour is spent on how the beer is actually made. Regardless, we recommend the stop.
The tour is childishly campy and made me cringe, I found that they didn t really even tell you much about the beer making process, and the beer tasting part of the tour was too short. Together it made for what felt like a very manufactured, inauthentic experience, and is essentially a reenactment put on by actors, not brewers.
Alexander Keith s claims to be an IPA, but is is so lightly hopped it tastes more like a blond... and not a great one at that.
If you want to try local beer in Halifax, check out one of the great craft breweries like Propeller, Garrison, Two Crows, Tidehouse, or Good Robot, which are actual locally owned small businesses. Keith s is owned by anheuser-busch.
Bit too expensive for what you get but very fun with singing, drinks and fun costumes.
Fun visit with lots of what you'd expect at an old brewery. Saturday market has some nice wares.
Definitely worth the somewhat expensive cost of entry. It was really neat to see the history of Alexander Keith's and you end in Keith's personal beer aging chamber which has been converted into a pub.You get 2x10ish oz samples of the different beers they have available, which probably rotate along with a few samples during the tour. There were two Keith's beers (IPA and Amber ale) along with 3 Nova Scotian beers. The lunenburg coffee stout was particularly good.
The red stag pub beside the brewery (which I think is part of the brewery) has some damn good food, a good variety of Keith's and local beers along with a rooftop patio.
So disappointed at the cost of the tour....offered 2 4 oz on tour and two 8 oz in backroom bar.....$30.....I can purchase 20 oz drafts of Keith's for $5 at most pubs...Stayners Wharf, My Fathers Moustache..... :( The presentation was good but did not justify the cost!!!
Entertaining and informative tour; the Fundy ale was excellent!
Got served a flat beer with an uncooked sausage accompanied with little cups of mustard and relish. Since there was no ustensil of any kind given to me, I had to use my fingers to spread the relish and mustard on the sausage. I also waited 30 minutes without seeing the waitress after I kindly informed her of my taste for cooked sausages.
I was, however, given the chance to scratch an unlucky coupon.
This trip is all about the expectation, not the actual service or product delivered. Although the decoration is really beautiful, that s where it stops.
I seldom have enough bad service so that I write a review like that. I should have used any other bar or restaurant in Halifax instead of this place that serves uncooked food and flat beer.
Alexander Keith's is not only a great brewery, but offers a lot of local history as well. You have to take the tour while you are visiting Halifax. You get to enjoy their beers on the tour, which lasts you a good hour or so. I went by myself and had a ton of fun. There's also a store and a bar to you can just visit if you don't want to take the tour.
Tour guides where very affectionate about there job. Very informative tour.
